Hubris Comic Issue 1-Game On
Narrator: War…War never changes. Since time began, mankind has constantly found new ways to kill each other. From stone and sticks to gun powder and nuclear ordinance. Back in the prime days of humanity, people fought over the limited number of resources throughout the world. Eventually the world reached a tipping point after the great war.
Nukes rose in the sky and rained nuclear hellfire onto the land, permanently altering the earth and changing it into a nightmarish wasteland of monsters. It wasn't hopeless, however. The organization known as Vault-Tech managed to create hundreds of fallout shelters to save people from the atomic apocalypse.
Our story takes place in Vault 101. Where the earth has chosen another champion of the apocalypse in the Capital Wasteland. Many heroes have risen in the post-apocalyptic Wasteland along with its many villains. Only time will tell what story will unfold and what legacy this vault dweller will leave behind.

Currently waking up in his room in Vault 101 is a young man named Gabriel Star. Gabriel is nineteen years old with dark brown skin and an average build, he has silver hair cut low to his head along with green eyes and is dressed in a simple tank top and boxers. However, his morning was soon turned upside down by a mysterious and strange message that appeared in front of his face.
[You have recovered 100% of your HP and AP!]
Gabriel let out a yelp in surprise as he rolled off the bed before sitting up and not only rubbing his head after it hit the ground, but he also saw the dark green screen of words floating in front of his eyes and seemed to move along with his eyesight.
"What the hell? Am I dreaming?" Gabriel asked as he reached up and touched the screen and felt that it was malleable yet durable since he couldn't even put a finger through the thing.
[You have awoken to a power that is gifted to few individuals. This is a power gifted to you from the primordial titan known as Gaia. This power transforms your life into something akin to a videogame RPG.
You have access to your stats, levels, titles, skills and perks. Unfortunately, this system lacks any tutorial option, so you'll just have to figure things out on your own.
I wish you the best of luck.

"I really must have gone crazy." Gabriel said before he noticed a small 'X' symbol on the upper right side of the dark green screen and when he pressed it, he saw that the screen vanished.
Gabriel was confused to say the least, but he knew he didn't have much time to dwell on things. He is nineteen years old and has responsibilities to the Vault. So, he got up and cleaned himself up a bit in the nearby private bathroom before getting dressed in his yellow and blue vault suit, black boots and lastly, he put his Pip-Boy over his right forearm near his wrist before he headed out to do his job.
During the G.O.A.T exam, Gabriel got an unlikely job and that job had him acting as the Vault chaplain. Which meant that he talked to people in a private and safe setting among other people with this same job. Or at least it would be like that if people in the vault didn't hate his guts for some reason.
Now Gabriel took the vault elevator and made his way down to the lower floors where he entered the Religious Sector. Basically, a big room with lots of bookshelves and books about various god's, myths, theories and so on. The room has various chairs, colorful curtains and paintings all over the place.
"Gabriel you're here." The leading chaplain said as he walked up to Gabriel when he entered the room. He was an old man named Carl but what shocked Gabriel was what he saw floating above the man's head.
Carl, Level: 11
Leading Vault Chaplain/Vault Dweller
"I am sir and I'm here to work like always." Gabriel said back and Carl smiled. Carl was one of the people who was nice to Gabriel and his father. In any case, Gabriel found and put on his black robes over his vault suit before he got to work.
Basically, all he did all day was keep the place clean, do paperwork, organize the books and listen to people when they came in and give the best answers, he could without saying something like 'Only one God exist and if you don't follow him, you'll die from a plague' or something like that.
The job wasn't bad, but it could be a bit dull after a while and after seeing people come in and out with names, titles and levels. Gabriel's curiosity got the better of him and he decided to pick up and read a book or two during his downtime.
The books he grabbed where about Greek mythology or more specifically the primordial goddess Gaia. Now, he ended up reading quite a bit and saw a new screen appear.
[You have developed the [Speed Reading] skill!]
[Speed Reading, Active Level: 13
Why would you just read when you can speed read? You can now read at a faster paste than normal and still retain the information.]
Gabriel once again thought that he was going crazy until he realized that he started reading the book faster than before as his speed-reading skill increased in level.
At this point Gabriel wondered if he might not be going crazy and that he somehow got a weird superpower from out of a comic book or something. The thought in his mind was based on what he knew about what an RPG is. The only real reference material he had from those are his small collection of game holotapes.
"Gabriel, do you have a minute?" A familiar voice asked as Gabriel stopped reading and looked up from his seat to see his best friend Amata.
"Hey Amata. Sure, I've got a minute to talk. What's up?" Gabriel asked before Amata took a seat in front of him and the duo talked. At first it was about if the supernatural was actually real or not, which is basically how they always start a conversation when Gabriel was on the job but after a while they simply talked about all sorts of things.
"Those stupid Tunnel Snakes won't stop hassling everyone. They think they are so tough and bad, but when the security guards come, they run away with their tails between their legs. The worst part is that despite their warnings and even getting thrown into cells for a few days. They just don't stop." Amata said with a heavy break and Gabriel could understand how she felt.
The Tunnel Snakes were made up from the bullies of the Vault and even when security puts them away, they must be released sooner or later since they are considered a low priority compared to someone having a domestic dispute or stealing. In which case they need to speed actual hard time in the vault.
"I understand Amata but there isn't much we can do. Your father doesn't consider them as real criminals and doesn't want to waste resources on them." Gabriel said back making Amata huff before putting her elbows on the table between them as she put her chin in her open palms.
"I know but its still frustrating." Amata said back. "Maybe if they came here or talked to a therapist, they wouldn't be such jerks."
"That's probably true but you can't force people to get help. They've got to get they're on their own and frankly I don't think any of those jerks are ever going to want to get help for their problems."
"You're probably right. Thanks for letting me vent for a bit." Amata said with a relieved smile on her face.
"No problem."
"I know you're a chaplain and everything but there is the annual Vault Olympics coming up. Are you going to sign up?" Amata asked and mildly shocked Gabriel for a moment.
"I don't think I'd do anything other than embarrass myself if I did that. I'm not exactly an athlete or anything."
"Don't be so hard on yourself. You just got to exercise a bit and you'll do fine." Amata replied with a supportive tone in her voice making him smile.
"I've got some time so I guess I could at least give it a try. Who knows. Maybe I won't make a complete fool out of myself in front of everyone that hates me." Gabriel said before a new screen appeared in front of his face.
[Quest Alert!
Name: Olympian
Objective: Train your physical stats in order to compete for the Olympic event!
Objective 2: Win the event!
Rewards: 5,000 EXP, Increased REP with James, Jonas, and Amata!
Failure: Humiliation and a beat down from the Tunnel Snakes!
Do you accept this quest? Y/N?]
As soon as Amata stood up and left, Gabriel stared at the game screen in shock at what he saw and confusion as nobody else seemed to notice the game screen in front of his face. So, he slowly raised his finger and hit the yes button and officially accepted his first quest.
Now the question is how he can possibly enhance his stats enough to win the sporting event. He could go the vault gymnasium, but he ran the risks of running into the Tunnel Snakes and he didn't want to deal with them, but he didn't want to disappoint his best friend, his father or his father's best friend. So, Gabriel decided to do what must be done and as soon as his shift ended, he would make his way to the gym.
Luckily enough when he made his way to the gym, Gabriel didn't spot a single Tunnel Snake and soon enough went to work with some of the equipment while wearing his vault suit as a few other vault dwellers gave him cold looks but he didn't care. The only thing he cared about was not making a fool out of himself at the upcoming event. Also, he cared about the sudden alerts he got.
Your VIT, CON and DEX has increased by 1!
Gabriel was already running short on breath as he was using an exercise bike but seeing the alert perked him up a bit as he kept exercising in the gym until he saw one alert and felt as if he was about to collapse.
You have been inflicted with the [Exhaustion] Debuff!
"Alright I'm done." Gabriel said to himself as he saw on a metal bench while being drenched in sweat and trying to catch his breath. Exercising was hard and he was positive that he wasn't breathing in the right way since his throat felt sore and scratchy but at the end of the day, he managed to enhance his stats a bit, which was his end goal for today.
So, after that Gabriel made his way back to the section of the vault, he called home and saw his father in their living quarters, listening to an episode of Captain Cosmo on the vault radio while holding a glass of water in his hand and drinking from it.
"Hey son. Why are you covered in sweat and look like you went ten rounds with a punching bag?" James asked bluntly as he looked at his son.
"I'm training to try and join the Vault Olympics coming up. Today was my first day working out and I'm exhausted." Gabriel responded before he went into his room and collapsed until his Debuff went away. Later on, his dad spoke to him about the event and how Gabriel should be careful because sport injuries are no joke, and that Gabriel would be extremely sore tomorrow, but Gabriel just felt a strange sense of joy from working out the way he did as well as having a goal like this to work towards.
Also, when James left his room, Gabriel decided to go into his game holotape collection and played some of the RPGs on his Pip-Boy in order to learn more about RPG mechanics and what not.
END!
