Disclaimer: I don't own Full House

By the time Michelle was five she was frustrated. Everyone kept telling her she was "too little". She was too little to go in the big girl pool. She had to play in the wading pool. She was too little to have a sleepover. She was too little to go outside the backyard. She was too little to hold Nicky and Alex. She was too little for everything. One day, when Michelle was in the middle of drawing a picture, Jesse came in.

"WOW Short Stuff," he said proudly, "You have some talent right there."

"HEY! I MAY BE LITTLE BUT I'M NOT SHORT," Michelle yelled angrily.

"Well, you're acting short," Jesse said with a hint of a smile.

Michelle tilted her head to the side and thought for a second.

"How do I act tall," she asked.

Jesse chuckled.

"No, Michelle. Acting short just means you're acting angry."

"It's not acting," Michelle said, "I am angry!"

Jesse sat down next to Michelle.

"Do you want to tell me why you're angry?"

"Because," Michelle said, "I'm too darn little. I have to play in the wading pool instead of going into the big girl pool like Stephanie and DJ. I can't eat off the big person's menu. I can't leave the backyard. I'm too little even to hold Nicky and Alex. It makes me really mad."

Jesse nodded.

"Yeah. I guess we do tend to worry about you," Jesse said, "Do you know why?"

"OF COURSE, I KNOW WHY. IT'S BECAUSE I'M TOO LITTLE."

"It's because we love you," Jesse said, "All of the things you can't do is for your own good."

"Yeah right," Michelle sneered, "How is not being able to hold my cousins my own good?"

"Aunt Becky is a little neurotic," Jesse admitted laughing, "I am too."

"What's neurotic," Michelle asked.

"It means we worry a lot," Jesse explained laughing.

"Well, it hurts my feelings that I can't hold my cousins. I'm not stupid."

"Of course, you're not stupid," Jesse said, "But you are five."

"That's a whole hand," Michelle replied.

Jesse ruffled Michelle's hair.

Before they could continue the conversation Alex started crying.

"Can I get him?"

"Sorry kiddo," Jesse said, "That's the diaper cry."

"EW GROSS," Michelle said wrinkling her nose.

"Come're," Jesse said.

"Where are we going," Michelle asked.

"Aunt Becky is out with Stephanie and DJ," Jesse replied.

"That's nice but I didn't ask where Aunt Becky was. I asked where we were going."

"I have to change Alex," Jesse said, "And I want to continue our conversation."

"Could I hold Nicky," Michelle asked, "He's not messy."

"As long as you keep it a secret from Aunt Becky," Jesse said, "She'd really be mad at me if she knew I let you do that."

"Right. Because I'm too little?"

"Something like that," Jesse said with a smile.

He paused before taking both babies to the nursery.

"Here," he said, "Sit on the floor."

Michelle sat on the floor and Jesse placed Nicky in her arms.

"Why do I have to sit on the floor," Michelle asked.

"That way, if you accidentally drop him, he won't get hurt," Jesse explained.

"Why would I drop him?" Michelle asked, "I love him."

"I know you do," Jesse said, "But you are five after all. You're still too l-"

"Do not say I'm too little," Michelle told him sternly.

"You're still too young to do everything the same way big people do."

"Okay," Michelle said smiling.

Just then the door to the nursery opened. It was Becky.

"Busted," Jesse whispered.

"Jess," Becky said, "What in the world is going on?"

"I'm changing Alex's diaper," Jesse answered.

"Okay but why is Michelle sitting on the floor holding Nicky," Becky asked.

"Uncle Jesse let me but it's a secret," Michelle said.

"Really," Becky chuckled, "I guess she's too young to understand what a secret is."

"Aw Beck," Jesse said, "Michelle's been feeling left out."

"You have Michelle?" Becky asked.

"Yeah," Michelle admitted, "And could you do me a favor and take him? He's getting heavy."

"That's because," Becky explained taking Nicky, "His diaper is wet."

She quickly changed Nicky.

"Michelle," Becky said, "Why didn't you tell your family you were feeling left out?"

"You guys have more important things to worry about," Michelle said.

"Michelle," Jesse said, "You're very important. We love you."

"But you went through a tough time," Michelle said, "And it was all my fault."

Becky knelt at Michelle's level.

"Nothing was your fault," she said.

"Michelle, Becky's right," Jesse said gently, "People make mistakes. Sometimes it causes bad results but a mistake is just that. It's a mistake."

"I love you guys," Michelle said.

"Hey… we love you too," Jesse replied.

"You know what you're not too little for?"

"What," Michelle asked Becky.

"A double fudge sundae with rainbow sprinkles," Becky replied

She scooped Michelle up and carried her downstairs for the sundae.
