So since the Blob incident everything has so far been pretty calm, doesn't mean things will stay that way. Blob now hangs out with Lance, Toad, and Rogue, which only adds to my theory that Mystique recruited him to work with her and brought him to our school. Lance still continues to stare at me and I continue to ignore him. Rogue seems really conflicted when it comes to us, X-men, and I don't blame her.
Storm knows I have been going stir crazy staying in the institute lately so she offered to take me with her to her nephew Evans basketball game. I jumped at the chance to leave the institute for a while. We are currently sat with Storm's sister and brother-in-law cheering on Evan, Storm's nephew.
I'm not big on sports, but this game has been intense and actually pretty interesting. Plus the player with the white hair is actually kind of cute. Evan is too, but he's younger than me and Storm's nephew. I would never risk my relationship with her like that. She is a great mentor and like family to me.
There are 34 seconds left in the game when Evan passes the ball to the cute guy. The boy shots, but misses the shot and the other team steals the ball. Mr. Daniels yells, "Set up your zone. Don't let him shoot!" I don't speak basketball, but I think they should listen to him. He seems to know what he's talking about.
Storm says, "Is it always this exciting?"
I say, "Yeah, this is, like, really intense."
Mr. Daniels says, "No, this one's a real nail-biter." At 8 seconds left the cute guy gets the ball and passes it to Evan.
Storm says, "You can do it Evan! Shoot! Shoot!" It's so nice to see her with her family and they have all been so nice so far. At 3 seconds left Evan shoots the ball and then is knocked over accidentally, I think, by someone from the other team. When he hits the gym floor spikes appear on his arm. They cut through the gym floor as he slides across it.
No one notices this, however, because he made the basket and won the game so everyone is too busy cheering to notice what just happened. But as I look at Storm I can tell she saw what I just saw too. I decide not to say anything and let her decide how this should be dealt with. She is the adult after all.
While everyone is cheering I notice that the cute boy I have been watching this whole time looks really mad. I guess he is mad that Evan made that shot and not him. Everyone wants the attention and praise that comes from making a shot like that I guess.
After the game is over Evan's parents decide to wait for Evan at the car as Storm and I head towards the boys locker room. Once we get there Storm says, "Wait out here Kitty. I want to talk to him one-on-one first."
I nod and say, "Take your time. I'll be out here when you are ready or if you need me." She nods and heads into the boy's locker room as a bunch of guys come out. I lean against the wall outside the locker room just waiting for them to finish.
I am just looking around, not really paying attention to my surroundings when I hear, "Well hello there beautiful. I haven't seen you around here before. Are you new?"
I look up and see it's the cute guy from the game. I say, "No, I'm not new here. I came with Evan Daniels, Aunt Ororo." He seems a little annoyed hearing Evan's name so I say, "Great game out there. I know nothing about sports, but you seem to be a really good player."
He smirks at me and says, "Thank you. My name is Pietro Maximoff. What's your name, gorgeous?" Well he may be a bit of a flirt, but at least he's cute.
I say, "My name is Kitty Pryde."
He says, "Well pretty Kitty can I get your number? Maybe we can talk again sometime." Normally, the answer to that question would be no, but I feel a connection to this guy which makes no sense. He is clearly arrogant, full of himself, and maybe even a little self-centered, but despite all that I feel like there is more to him.
I say, "You know what? Sure my number is xxx-xxxx." I may regret this later, but I think I would regret it if I didn't.
He quickly, almost too quickly, puts my number in his phone. It wasn't normal how fast he managed to do that, but I decide not to say anything because if he is a mutant he deserves to tell me when he wants to and not to be forced.
Pietro says, "It was nice talking to you Kitty. I'll be texting you real soon. Maybe we can hang out sometime."
I say, "I don't know about that, while I would love to hang out I'm supposed to be heading back to Bayville soon and I don't know when I'll be back this way."
He says, "I actually go down to Bayville a lot so it should be no problem for us to hangout there." I feel like his power is speed so it probably is no problem for him to get there quickly, but I keep that to myself.
I say, "Well then we'll definitely have to hang out sometime."
He takes my hand and plants a kiss on it. Still holding my hand he says, "Great! I'll see you soon Kitty." He releases my hand and starts to walk away.
I say, "See you soon Pietro." I blink and he's gone. He's definitely super fast.
Not long after Pietro left, Storm and her nephew exit the locker room. Storm says, "Evan this is Kitty. She is a student at the institute. She came with me to cheer you on tonight."
I say, "It's nice to meet you! I don't know much about sports, but that seemed like a great game!"
He says, "Nice to meet you too. Thank you." He isn't very enthusiastic about it, but with his powers showing I imagine seeing me isn't going to help much. He doesn't seem to want to come to the institute; he's not ready yet. I understand I didn't want to go at first either.
Storm says, "Let's head over back to your house Evan your dad is barbecuing."
We head out to the parking lot and get into Evan's parents car and head back to their home. When we get there Evan's parents begin cooking while Storm takes Evan and I to the side to talk about his powers I guess.
Mr. Daniels says, "Still can't get over that last shot son. What a beauty! You're gonna remember this game for a long time!"
Mrs. Daniels says, "Yes, wasn't it exciting?"
Storm says, "What amazes me is that you've kept it concealed this long."
Evan says, "I'm telling you,I've got it covered. A few points, a few spikes, I mean, so what? This is New York."
I say, "I think even in New York they will notice sharp spikes coming out of your skin." He just gives me a quick glare. I say, "I'm just, like, saying."
Storm says, "Evan, you need to take this seriously. The Xavier Institute can offer you training."
Evan says, "I don't need training, man. I can take care of myself. Anyone messes with me, bam!" He creates spikes on his arms and uses them to slash the tree.
Storm says, "No, Evan. You mustn't use your powers like that. You have to learn control."
Evan says, "Hey, I've got control, see. Everything's cool." It is so not that easy. It would be nice if it was.
Storm says, "Like in the locker room?"
Evan says, "Alright, so it's not perfected yet."
Storm says, "I think we should continue this conversation with your parents."
Evan says, "Like I didn't know that was coming. Look can't this wait till after school tomorrow? I mean this is a big night for them."
Mr. Daniels says, "Get 'em while they're hot."
Stroms says, "All right." Evan kisses her cheek and runs over to his dad.
I look at Storm and say, "You know he is only putting this talk off to buy time to figure out how to get out of going to the institute right?"
Storm looks at me and says, "Why do you think that?"
I say, "Because I can relate to him a little and it's exactly what I would have done if people were going to try to make me go to the institute before I decided I was ready to be there."
Storm says, "I fear you are right Kitty. We might need to call for backup. You have done a good job so far, but maybe seeing other kids his own age will help."
I say, "I'm new at helping people understand the institute. I understand the need to call in Scott and Jean to help, they have a little more experience with all of this and know more about the institute than I do."
Storm nods and says, "Having a little back up will help us, but you have done well. I am proud of the progress you are making with us at the institute."
I say, "Thank you Storm. I am so glad I came to the institute, I have learned so much here."
Strom says, "I need to contact the professor to let him know what is going on. Give me a moment." It amazes me how far the professor can reach with his powers. He has to be the most powerful mutant or at least close.
After a few minutes Storm says, "Scott and Jean will be here tomorrow. Did you notice anyone else who might have displayed powers, Kitty? The Professor got a read on another mutant, but couldn't get a clear read on them."
I say, "I saw signs, but I don't know for sure if they have powers."
She says, "Was it in the player with white hair? Pietro?"
I nod and say, "It is him, I think he may have powers, but I'm, like, not for sure."
She nods and says, "I believe he does as well, but like you I don't know for sure. He and Evan have been in competition with each other their whole lives." That explains a lot it was bad enough not making the winning shot, but having to watch your rival make it? Must be rough to deal with.
We end the conversation there and head over to the others for dinner. We sit down to eat and just talk about random things. Evan doesn't talk much to me, but I don't take it personally. I get it, potentially being forced to leave home before you make the choice to is not fun. I may not be the one making him leave, but I represent where he may be forced to go.
Storm and I crash at the Daniels' house that night. They have two guest rooms and Storm and I always carry clothes with us in case of emergency situations. We carry our X-men gear and back up clothes. Always good to be prepared.
I was just laying in bed reading a book when my phone buzzes. I check to see I have a text from an unknown number. It says: How was the rest of your night pretty Kitty- Pietro.
I respond: It was ok. Just spent it with the Daniels' family. How was the rest of your night Pietro?
He says: It was pretty good. Did something to cheer myself up and now I'm talking to a gorgeous girl.
I say: I'm glad you cheered yourself up and as much fun as I am having I need to get some sleep. Good night Pietro.
He texts back: Good night Pretty Kitty.
I feel like on some levels I shouldn't like this guy, but I do and I just can't help it. I go to sleep thinking about Pietro and what the next day will hold. I hope both of those things go well for me and all those involved.
The next day while Evan was at School we were getting Scott and Jean settled in. We spent the day talking to his parents and explaining things. I also spend the day texting Pietro. I think I really like this guy. He is really charming and just fun.
When Evan finally came home and saw all of us he went on the defensive. He says, "Man, you don't give up, do you, auntie O?"
Jean says, "That's because she loves you. She's concerned. We all are."
Evans' mom says, "This certainly explains why you're always coming home with holes in your clothes.
Storm says, "We always knew this was a possibility, Vi. While you did not receive the mutant gene as I did, we knew it could show up in future generations."
Scott says, "It's really not so bad, Mrs. Daniels. Having special powers can be pretty cool sometimes."
I say, "It's true I wasn't super excited about my powers at first, but now I wouldn't trade them for anything."
Evan says, "Oh, yeah? I'll tell you what, Shades, Valley girl. Let me see what you've got that's so cool."
Mrs. Daniels says, "Evan!"
Evan says, "Sorry, Mom."
Jean says, "No, really. It's ok. It's just Scott's powers aren't really what you'd call indoor-friendly. But Kitty can show you hers if she would like."
I nod and say, "Sure." I simply phase my hand through the table in front of me to keep it simple.
Evan looks at me in shock for a second before his mad face comes back. He says, "Ok, whatever. Look, man, I like it right here, and I'm not going to some home for freaks. Now, if you excuse me, I got school stuff to take care of." He rushes upstairs away from us.
I don't take the freak comment personally. I said something similar when I was scared and didn't know what to do. This is a lot for someone to take in and then to be uprooted from your home right after it happens isn't any easier.
Mrs. Daniels rushes after Evan and says, "Evan!" He ignores and continues up the stairs.
Jean says, "Well, that went well."
Scott says, "Yeah, and I thought we were really making a connection there."
I say, "We did what we could. He needs more time."
Mr. Daniels says, "I apologize for my son, Mr. Summers. He's obviously dealing with a lot right now. I'll talk with him."
Jean says, "Hey, he's going out the window." This is what happens when you rush someone who isn't ready. They fight and they run. You'd think we would have learned our lesson after Rouge.
We all rush to the door to try to stop him. By the time we get the door open he is already down the street. Scott says, "We really need to work on our sales pitch."
I say, "He just isn't ready yet. If you guys would have made me go before I had processed and accepted what was going on I would have fought too. He'll come around when he's ready. He needs time."
Storm says, "You are right Kitty, but with how his powers are developing I don't know if we can give him enough time. We need to find him now. We will work this out after we do."
I nod and we all start walking in the direction Evan went. We didn't get very far before Evan's parents got a call telling them Evan was at the police station. As we are making our way over to get him, Storm calls the Professor to get his help with the situation.
When we get there Evan is sitting in a cell by himself. Mrs. Daniels' says, "Evan what happened?"
Scott says, "Welcome to the downside, pal. Misuse your powers, go to jail." Scott means well, but he really needs to know a whole situation before he jumps to conclusions. I don't think Evan's powers could break into peoples lockers without spikes being left behind and Jean checked the officers minds no spikes.
Evan says, "It wasn't me, man."
Jean says, "Hey, I believe you, Evan. In fact, I know you didn't do it."
I say, "Like, I believe you too, Evan."
Storm says, "Evan, please listen to me. Let us help you."
Scott says, "So we'll make you a deal. The Professor will use his influence to get you out of here, and you give the institute a shot. What do you say?" I don't think we should be pushing so hard, but Storm thinks this is the only way Evan will at least give the institute a chance.
Evan says, "Like I've got a choice?"
Scott says, "Hey, hey. You've always got a choice. We just want to help you make it the right one."
Evan says, "Ok. Deal." He then shakes Scott's hand. We get Evan out then we head back to his house to help him pack. Once all of his stuff was together we head back to the institute. It is late when we get back to the institute so we show Evan his room and head to bed.
I have a hard time falling asleep because Pietro and I made plans to meet up tomorrow before I had to be at school for breakfast and I am excited and also nervous. He's really cute, sweet and so interesting.
The next morning I get up early and get ready to go. Once I'm ready I grab what I need and leave a note for those in the institute that I am meeting up with a friend before school and I will see them there.
I walk to the little cafe I am meeting Pietro at. When I get there I see he is already there waiting for me. I walk over and say, "Good morning Pietro."
He gets up and kisses the back of my hand and says, "Good morning, pretty Kitty."
We walk to the counter and order some coffee and pastries. Before I can even reach for my wallet Pietro has already paid. He definitely has super speed. We head back to the table Pietro was at earlier and we sit down.
Pietro says, "So how do you like it here in Bayville?"
I smile and say, "I actually really love it here and I really like it at the institute. How long have you been playing basketball?"
He says, "Most of my life. I like it, but it's just not the thrill it used to be."
I say, "So you live for the thrill huh?"
He says, "You have no idea." We both laugh and just spend the rest of breakfast getting to know each other. It was such a fun morning I was really sad when we had to separate so I could go to school. He said we'll meet up again soon and I honestly can't wait.
My day at school and the few days that followed were typical and boring. Lance stared, I pretended he wasn't there. Classes were boring as per usual. The only thing different about my day was texting Pietro, which was not boring in any way, and helping Evan find his classes and stuff.
Evan is not a fan of us right now and I understand why. He won't talk about what happened the night he got arrested. We think someone else could have done it and Evan just got caught for it, but none of us know what happened for sure.
After school we go to the danger room to train. Evan pushes himself hard and none of us are sure why he is going so hard or why he is so angry. He has been like that everyday though.
Scott says, "This is your fifth run Spyke. You wanna take a break?"
Spyke says, "No time for breaks, man. You got me here to train, so let's train." See he is really determined to train. So opposite me when I first got here. Training freaked me out.
Wolverine says, "Heh. You heard the man. Let's roll." Evan then proceeds to skate the course again. Jean throws metal spheres at him and Scott shoots his lasers at him. Evan does well at first, but eventually gets knocked off his skateboard.
Wolverine says, "Not too shabby, porcupine." He offers his hand to Spyke to help him up. I have been observing all this from the top box area.
The phone rings next to me and I answer. It is the basketball coach from Bayville. Apparently there is a game tonight against Spyke's old school. I tell him I'll let Evan know and hang up the phone.
I press the loudspeaker button and says, "Spyke, the coach just called. Says you gotta come to the gym. You got a game tonight."
Evan says, "There wasn't one on the schedule."
I say, "Well there is now. Coach says principal Darkholme, like, put it together last minute. Says he wants you suited up in, like, one hour 'cause you're starting against P.S. 104." His old school and Pietro's school. This will be interesting.
Kurt poofs next to Evan and says, "Dude! Allright! You get to play against your alma mater!" Why would he want to play against his friends? Really Kurt?
Evan says, "Yeah.." Jean and Scott look at each other than up to me. I nod thinking exactly what they are. Whoever Evan is angry at whoever broke into those lockers may be coming here too and Evan has been preparing for it.
I really don't want it to be true, but I think Pietro might have something to do with all this. I really hope I am wrong, but he really doesn't like Evan and I am almost positive he has powers. Evan heads out to get ready.
I meet up with Jean and Scott. Jean says, "I think we need to go to the game not only to support Evan, but to make sure whoever he is angry at doesn't cause him more problems."
I nod and say, "I, like, totally agree."
Scott nods and says, "Let's go."
We get to the school as Pietro whips behind Evan and knocks him down. Scott puts his hand on Pietro's shoulder and says, "What's going on here?"
Evan says, "Nothing I can't handle."
Jean asks, "Is this the guy who was stealing from the lockers?"
Pietro looks at me with a blank face and I just shake my head. I don't know how I feel about him right now. What I do know is Evan needs help and I will help him now and worry about Pietro later.
Spyke says, "Stay out of this."
Scott says, "That true?"
Pietro has been looking at me with a blank face, but when he turns to Scott he looks smug. He says, "Actually, yeah." He uses his speed just a little to get Scott off of him. Pietro goes on, "I trashed those lockers. Why? You gonna do something about it?"
Scott grabs his arm again, which quite honestly was such a bad idea. Scott says, "Look I think you better come with us."
Pietro says, "I don't think so." Pietro uses his speed to throw Scott. I don't know if he was aiming for me or not, but Scott gets thrown towards me and I phase so he goes right through me. Pietro looks stunned for a split second then he's smug again.
Spyke says, "That's it Pietro! You're going down this time!" Can we not have a fight at school where literally anyone could see us. Can we just play basketball? Well can they? I don't do sports.
Spyke tries to tackle Pietro, but he obviously uses his speed to move. Pietro says, "Oh, sounds like a challenge. Come on Daniels. Let's see what you got." He then uses his powers to literally run over Spyke and then he's gone.
Spyke says, "Trust me, man, you're gonna find out." He pulls out his skateboard and x-suit and is off after Pietro.
Scott says, "Man, that guys fast."
Jean says, "We can't let Evan do this alone."
I say, "Definitely not. Storm said those too have been rivals their whole life. Either one of them could take this way too far now that they both have powers we need to catch them quick."
Scott says, "When you're with the X-men you're never alone. Let's go."
We quickly change into our x-suits and head off in the direction both guys went. When we get there Pietro is destroying everything. Well I am really glad I never told anyone about the guy I am kind of seeing. This is going to be hard to understand let alone explain.
Jean says, "We have to stop him."
Spyke says, "I've tried, he's just too fast! I thought you said all that training stuff would help." It does, but training is also about teamwork and it's literally been like a week.
Scott says, "Training's just one part of it, Spyke. Teamwork's another."
Pietro runs by us and grabs me as he screams, "Yahoo! See ya!" He runs us a bit away.
He stops for a second and says, "So now I guess you hate me and love Evan. Right Pretty Kitty?"
I say, "I don't know how I feel right now Pietro. I'm disappointed, but I feel like I don't know the whole story. I feel connected to you and right now I'm confused. I don't hate you, I just hope one day you want better for yourself than this."
Pietro says, "Where do we stand now?"
I say, "I don't know I'll let you know when I do. Please bring me back to my team." He nods and runs me back to my friends.
Jean says, "Are you ok Kitty?"
I nod and say, "Just a little dizzy. We have to stop this." Do I know what happens next with Pietro? Not at all, but I do know I have to stop him now. He'll destroy the whole town if we don't stop him.
Scott says, "Jean, he can't run if his feet aren't on the ground." Things are flying all over the place so I am holding onto everyone and phasing if something solid comes our way.
Jea says, "On it!" Jean lifts Pietro off the ground.
Pietro starts to struggle and says, "Hey! What's going on?" He starts spinning in the air and more things go flying.
Jean says, "I can't hold him."
Pietro say, "Hold onto this baby! It's twister time!" EVerything goes flying we are holding onto a light pole to not be thrown around too.
Scott says, "Look out! Spyke lock and load!" He shoots his lasers into the twister and hits Pietro than Spyke uses his spikes to spike him to the wall.
Pietro says, "I can't get loose! I can't get loose!"
I say, "That's kind of the point."
Spyke says, "Not so fast now are you, Quicksilver?"
Pietro says, "Yeah, what good does it do you Daniels? You still can't prove I had anything to do with getting you in trouble. Can you?"
Spyke says, "Oh, sounds like a challenge. I got it all right here. Check this out." Then plays a recording of Pietro admitting he did break into those lockers.
Scott says, "Good job, dude. Looks like some of that training did pay off." We hear sirens in the distance.
The other three ran off ahead of me. I say, "Don't worry Pietro. If the pattern continues I'll see you at Bayville High very soon." I kiss his cheek and run to catch my friends.
We get back to the institute and after checking with each other to make sure we were ok, we head to our separate rooms. I get ready for bed then begin reading my book. Around midnight I get a text from Pietro.
It says: Not sure what you meant about the pattern, but I will be starting Bayville soon. Hope you figure out things. See you soon.
I text back: See you soon, Quicksilver. I'm Shadowcat by the way.
Only fair he knows my name too. I decide to go to bed and stress about this another time. I am not going to have my answer in one night.
The next day we are having a pool day and just being kids. It was a nice way to welcome Evan to the institute and show we do more than just train here. I am currently laying on a float just relaxing. Suddenly Kurt yells, "Cannonball!" and lands with a huge Splash causing me to get knocked off my float I just glare at him.
He shrugs and starts being the annoying little brother again. So I decide to be the annoying sister. I say, "Ew! Professor! Kurt's, like, totally getting fur in the pool!" He's not, but I can be a brat too.
Kurt says, "I am not!"
Evan then jumps in and accidentally pops my float with his spikes. Great another annoying little brother. I just glare at him too. But eventually I give in and join in laughing with everyone else. What a week this has been!
