Chapter-3

I love her

As the peaceful night came, Kai couldn't fall asleep. His mind was filled with thoughts of Hilary. He was trying to understand the strong feelings he had for her.

These emotions were new to him, leaving him puzzled. Whenever Hilary was near, Kai felt a comforting warmth and his heart would flutter. When she was gone, he felt a deep loneliness. Even when surrounded by others, Hilary was the one he focused on. He wondered if these feelings were love or just a strong friendship. Could he, Kai, be in love? These questions filled his mind until, finally, he fell asleep.

On the last day of their holiday, excitement filled the air. As the end of summer drew near, everyone wanted to make the most of their time before heading back to their home countries for their studies.

Truly, summer was coming to a close, and everyone was getting ready for what was next.

The group decided to spend their day at the lake. Everything was perfect until the weather suddenly changed.

It became cold, the sky turned grey, and it started to rain. Everyone rushed towards the shelter. In the confusion, Hilary hurt her ankle and found herself too far out in the rough lake to swim back. The strong waves seemed to pull her under. Despite her best efforts, she was losing the battle. Fear filled her as she struggled to breathe, her lungs filling with water instead of air. As she sank deeper into the icy water, she thought of one person - Kai. She tried to call out his name, but the water silenced her.

"HEY! Where's Hilary!?" Max's voice rang out. They had all thought she was with them, but she wasn't.

Without hesitating, Kai and Tyson ran towards the lake, with Ray following after telling the others to stay where they were.

Despite the heavy rain, Kai's determination didn't waver. When he reached the lake, he saw Hilary. He quickly took off his shirt and dove into the stormy water, swimming towards her.

Tyson watched, stunned, as Kai bravely swam into the rough waters to save Hilary.

Hilary, her vision blurry, saw a hand reaching for her and a familiar face appearing through the water. She knew it was Kai, her rescuer. As he held her, she felt relief and something else, something she had been ignoring – love.

"You'll be fine now don't worry" he spoke in a soft voice.

"Thank you, Kai," she whispered, her voice almost drowned by the storm. And as her eyes slowly closed, she knew in her heart that this was more than friendship. She was in love, and Kai was her hero. Panic seized Kai. For the first time, he felt a jolt of fear. Quickly, he cradled her in his arms, swimming to take her back to the resort. While Tyson and Ray followed Kai.

Back on dry land, Kai carried her to the resort lobby. He laid her gently onto a couch, thumping her chest lightly. Water trickled from her mouth, and her eyes flickered open.

"Kai?"

Relief washed over him. He sighed, resting his head on the edge of the couch. "You scared me," he murmured.

Their friends felt the tension lift, gathering around and calling her name softly.

"Guys, let her rest. Hils, can you walk to your room?" Ray asked.

"I don't think so. I think I've injured my foot," Hilary replied.

Without a moment's hesitation, Kai scooped her up in his arms. "Where's your room?"

The group was taken aback, Tyson, in particular, suspecting that Kai had feelings for Hilary.

Hilary was the most surprised of all. Her cheeks flushed and she found herself unable to look away from him. But in his arms, she felt safe.

"That way," she whispered, pointing to her room. Kai carried her there gently, laying her on the bed with care.

Ray soon followed with a first aid kit. Kai quietly slipped away.

Kai's Perspective:

Fear gripped me. I couldn't lose her. I'd never felt such desperation before. I wanted to keep her safe, to be there for her. It was then that I realized my feelings.

I was in love with her. Yes, the feeling was unmistakable. I love Hilary and couldn't bear the thought of losing her.

My realization was interrupted by Tyson's voice.

"Kai, we need to talk," Tyson said, his voice serious.

Kai and Tyson stood in their garden, and Tyson took the plunge to break the silence.

"Did you like her?" he asked, his eyes eager for a response.

Kai's silence hung in the air, piquing Tyson's curiosity, prompting him to continue.

"To be honest, Kai, she's been with me for as long as I can remember. Even when you and others left the team, she stuck around. I can't help but feel like she might like me too. I just don't want us to be rivals in this. You're a great friend, but I'm not sure if you can truly make her happy."

Tyson went on, "I think it's essential for people to..."

Kai, determined, cut off Tyson and said firmly, "Yes, I love Hilary, and I'm serious about it. We may not know who she likes yet, but I'm not backing down from this."

Reluctantly, Tyson sighed, "Alright, as you wish, Kai," and walked away, leaving their garden with an uneasy atmosphere.
