She opened the door with a smile as she made eye contact with him. Setting her bag down beside her seat, she made her way to his desk and sat on top of it. "Good morning to you too, Sasuke." She picked the book out from his hands and flipped the pages to see what he was reading.
"It's so early in the morning and you're already bothering me." He grumbled and snatched the book back.
"What are friends for?" She giggled.
"I miss when you were scared of me." He whispered under his breath, successfully earning himself a soft shove from her flustered form.
"I was never scared of you; you were just a big meanie." She rolled her eyes and pulled a chair out to sit down. "Are you still coming over for dinner?"
"I can't, my mother is celebrating some sort of achievement tonight." Sasuke lied and hid a smirk seeing her pout.
"Awe, we were going to make some food with extra tomatoes."
"Perhaps I can sneak out before my parents realize."
Hinata nodded and crossed her arms, "I know you were lying. You always do that to get out of these invites from my father."
"Can you blame me? Sometimes he's a little—"
"Overwhelming, I know. It doesn't make it any less funny seeing you sit there in awkward silence as he tries to talk to you." She laughed.
"You're lucky that my parents don't behave the same." He rolled his eyes. "You'd be suffering constantly."
"Well that's because my father had always wanted a son and your mother exhausted herself in spoiling me as a child. I still can't believe she was friends with my mother." She leaned against his desk. "So, are you coming over or not?"
"Will there be tomatoes?"
"I can pick some up before I go home if you really want them."
"Call me when you do and I'll be at your door in an instant."
"That is to be expected from the resident tomato lover." She poked his cheek.
Swatting her hand away from his face, he glared at her as she laughed. Hinata knew he hated to be poked since his older brother would constantly do so, that never stopped her from doing the same.
Sasuke shot an irritated glare at his mother, who persisted in capturing photos of him and Hinata.
"Seriously? You guys are so cute together! You'd make an adorable couple!" She exclaimed, clicking away from various angles.
"Disgusting." Sasuke muttered.
Hinata playfully nudged him and teased, "Aw, come on, Sasu-poo! I'm not that terrible."
"Don't say that again," he replied, striding away from the girls.
Hinata laughed, catching up to him. As they headed towards his car, she quipped, "What's got you all riled up?"
Sasuke sighed, confessing, "I didn't want to go to prom."
Hinata stopped in her tracks, pouting. "But it's our last event together before graduation."
Sasuke glanced back at her and stated, "I'm only doing this for you. Let's go before I change my mind." He climbed into the car, and Hinata smiled, following suit.
As they drove towards their school, Hinata reached into her bag and retrieved two small bottles. She handed one to Sasuke, who inspected it briefly before returning his focus to the road. "How did you manage to get alcohol?" He inquired, curiosity tugging at him.
Hinata's smile widened, a hint of mystery in her eyes. "I have my ways," she replied, flipping open the lid and taking a gulp from the bottle. A momentary cough escaped her, but she soon turned towards Sasuke. "I have more, but we'll save that for later," she teased, alluding to further indulgence.
Sasuke carefully placed the bottle into the cup holder. "I don't drink," he asserted, his tone resolute.
Hinata's expression softened, a playful plea in her voice. "And neither do I, but here we are. Come on, Sasuke... let's loosen up a little and have some fun!"
Sasuke sighed, weighing his options. "Fine, but only after we arrive," he relented, allowing himself to entertain the idea of embracing the festivities that awaited them.
Once they arrived, the vibrant lights and energetic music enveloped them, creating an atmosphere of celebration. Hinata's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she tugged at Sasuke's arm. "Let's make some memories, Sasuke!" She exclaimed, her voice brimming with anticipation.
He couldn't resist the warmth in her voice and the twinkle in her eyes. "All right," he conceded, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Let's make it a night to remember."
They joined their friends on the dance floor, letting the music guide their movements. Sasuke found himself gradually letting go of his reservations, swept up in the rhythm and the infectious joy surrounding him. Hinata's laughter filled the air, and together they spun and swayed, reveling in the freedom of the moment.
As the night progressed, they took breaks from dancing, finding quiet corners to steal fleeting moments together. Sasuke discovered that the genuine conversations, the shared laughter, and the tender touches were just as intoxicating as any drink could be.
As the final song of the evening played, Sasuke and Hinata found themselves entwined in each other's arms, swaying gently to the music. The world around them seemed to fade into the background, leaving only the two of them in their private embrace.
"I'm glad we came," Sasuke whispered, his voice filled with a newfound appreciation. "Tonight has been...unexpected."
Hinata smiled, her eyes shimmering with affection. "I knew you'd find some enjoyment in it," she replied softly. "Thank you for being here with me."
The night drew to a close, but the memories they had created would linger in their hearts forever. As they walked hand in hand towards the car, Sasuke couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for taking the chance and allowing himself to experience the magic of the evening.
Hinata swayed slightly as she gazed at the car, then shifted her attention to Sasuke, who was fumbling to find his keys. "Maybe," she hiccupped, "this is a sign not to drink and drive." She burst into laughter, her intoxication evident.
Sasuke glanced up at her, a determined expression on his face. "I'm not walking home," he stated, continuing his search through his pockets.
However, as Hinata attempted to walk towards him, she stumbled and twisted her ankle, a pained utterance escaping her. Sasuke swiftly moved to her side, concern etched on his features. "You're so clumsy," he murmured, clicking his tongue disapprovingly. Gently, he removed her favorite shoes and inspected her injured ankle, sighing softly before turning away. "Get on," he instructed, his tone firm yet caring.
Hinata fixed her gaze on Sasuke's back, her emotions swirling within her. With a determined resolve, she leaned forward and enveloped him in a warm embrace, her arms encircling his shoulders. In response, she felt his strong arms sneak around her legs, providing steady support as he stood up.
A sigh escaped Sasuke's lips, a mix of resignation and concern. "Looks like we'll have to walk," he remarked, his voice tinged with a hint of humor.
Hinata's tipsy state made her giggle, finding amusement in their unexpected predicament. "You're like my knight in shining armor," she slurred, her words coated with a drunken affection.
A soft smile tugged at Sasuke's lips as he absorbed her words. "And you," he replied, his tone playful, "are like the brat of a princess." His words carried a gentle teasing, a reflection of their shared history and the bond that had developed between them over time.
As they began their journey on foot, their steps synchronized, their laughter intertwined with the night air. Unbeknownst to them, Neji had captured a photo of their connected presence, freezing the moment in time.
As Hinata and Sasuke ventured down the dimly lit, ominous hallway, their hands tightly intertwined, an unsettling tension filled the air. Shadows danced along the walls, casting eerie shapes that seemed to taunt their senses. Hinata broke the silence, her voice barely above a whisper, "Hey, Sasuke." Her words hung in the darkness, almost swallowed by the ominous surroundings.
Sasuke turned to face her, his eyes narrowing as he caught a glimpse of her troubled expression. There was something different about her demeanor, a hint of vulnerability that sent a shiver down his spine.
"Would you miss me if I died?" She asked, her gaze fixated on an indiscernible point in the distance, as if contemplating her own mortality.
A flicker of alarm danced in Sasuke's eyes, briefly betraying his stoic façade. He struggled to find words, his mind racing to comprehend the weight of her question. Before he could respond, a scoff escaped his lips, an instinctual defense mechanism to mask his unease. "What stupid question is that? Is your idiot of a boyfriend rubbing off on you?" He retorted, attempting to brush off the gravity of her inquiry.
Hinata smiled gently, her grip on his hand tightening as she guided him around a corner. A pale blue light spilled out from glass doors ahead, casting an ethereal glow onto their path. Curiosity piqued, Sasuke turned to peer through one of the doors, only to be confronted by a chilling sight. Giant test tubes lined the room, each containing lifeless bodies. His heart skipped a beat as he caught a glimpse of the lifeless figures suspended within.
Hinata stepped in front of one particular tube, her eyes fixated on the unidentified girl floating inside. With a mysterious smile, she turned to face Sasuke, her intentions shrouded in vagueness. Unable to discern the girl's face, Sasuke felt an unsettling sense of foreboding, the hairs on his neck standing on end.
"It's super hard to breathe... My body hurts. I want to die," Hinata whispered, her voice laden with an eerie melancholy. She moved to the side of the tube, her fingertips gently grazing the glass, as if trying to bridge the gap between life and death. Sasuke watched in a mixture of fascination and dread as Hinata disappeared behind the tube, her voice resonating from the other side. "So, Sasuke, would you miss me if I were dead?"
A surge of frustration and confusion overcame Sasuke, his hands involuntarily clenching into fists. "Again, it's stupid to even ask that," he replied, his voice strained with denial and fear. When no response came, he scoffed, his tone tinged with uneasy humor. "Hinata, this is a joke, right? Why are we even here?"
Driven by a mix of concern and disbelief, Sasuke ventured toward the place where Hinata had vanished. To his astonishment, she wasn't there. Panic gripped his heart as he realized she was the body inside the very tube she had been observing. Her eyes met his, pleading through the glass as she frantically banged on its surface. Bubbles formed around her mouth as her voice turned into a desperate scream.
Fear and anguish flooded Sasuke's being, his hands now bloody from the force of his futile attempts to free her. "What the fuck, Hinata!" He exclaimed, his anger laced with desperation. Desperately scanning the room for a weapon, he was met with a harrowing sight: all the bodies in the tubes, their faces resembling Hinata, were now pounding on the glass, their chorus of relentless banging growing louder and more menacing.
The cacophony overwhelmed Sasuke, deafening him as he clutched his ears and recoiled, his body trembling. In a moment of overwhelming terror, he curled up on the ground, squeezing his eyes shut, seeking refuge from the nightmarish reality that enveloped him.
As he abruptly sat up, beads of perspiration dotted his forehead, his heart pounding against his chest. A dull ache pulsed in his head, a lingering reminder of the torment he had just experienced. "These dreams have got to stop," he muttered, his voice heavy with a mixture of exhaustion and dread, as he wrestled with the haunting aftermath of his disturbed slumber.
