I do not own Harry Potter, only the OC
Hello guys, Badger here. I have a new chapter for you all. This chapter was pretty difficult to write. Not because there is a lot of action, or because it's very long, but because, if you remember, I have no plans for this story. There are no draft chapters, or notes about possible plot points. I'm just going wherever my brain takes me, as I write. This chapter was supposed to be published before the 3rd chapter for Ace and Lightning, but I had to take a short break and come back to it, about halfway through, when my brain came up with something. I remember pacing back and forth in my room, with Heavy Metal blasting in my ear.
But hey, I eventually got it done and here it is. Read on, enjoy and I will see you at the end.
Chapter 2
"Ugh, I think I have lost my appetite" Penny gagged, pushing away her plate
It didn't take a genius to know what she was talking about. Over at the Gryffindor Table, Nathaniel Potter and Ron Weasley were eating their breakfast like they were five year olds. The two of them were using their hands, instead of their knives and forks. The Gryffindor students around them had moved as far as they could from the two, each one sharing Penny's thoughts on the sight. Everyone who could see them had a green tinge in their cheeks. It was a disgusting sight.
"If you think that's bad, then you're lucky you don't live with the egotistical pig, he's a lot worse at home" Harry snorted, who had chosen to sit with his back to his brother, after all, he wanted to enjoy his breakfast
"To think, he's supposed to be our 'saviour'" Cho Chang commented, looking disgusted at the sight of the whale Harry had to call a brother "So Harry, still staying on the Quidditch Team?"
"Of course" Harry snorted "there is no way I'm giving up my position as Chaser…besides, I need to be there to help the teams Seeker now don't I?"
"Good" Cho smiled "I'd hate to be the only one to gain the attention when we win our Quidditch Matches"
Harry rolled his eyes, but there was a gentle smile on his face. He and Cho have been playing for the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team since their Second Year. Harry discovered that he had a fierce throwing arm, earning him his well-deserved spot as Chaser, whilst Cho played as the teams Seeker. James and Arianna played for Slytherin, with James playing as Chaser whilst Arianna played as Keeper, even though Harry believed James would also make a good Seeker. Fred and George were Beaters for the Gryffindor Quidditch Team and made sure to give the others a challenge on the pitch, whilst Cedric played as Seeker for the Hufflepuff Quidditch Team. Penny and Aila were the only ones in their friend group who weren't in their Quidditch Team. Penny wasn't a big fan of heights, but James had informed Harry that Aila was thinking about trying out for the Hufflepuff Quidditch Team. Apparently she was thinking of trying out for Keeper or Beater. Harry thought she'd make a brilliant Beater. The girl may be small in height, but she can pack a punch, which she could use to send Bludgers at her opponents. Harry remembered the day he was named the new Chaser for Ravenclaw. He and his friends all tried out at the same time, and all made their Teams and when word got out, Sirius and Remus had sent him a broom. The Comet 260.
Harry had a smile on his face, as he entered his dorm room. For many, it was a surprise seeing him so happy. Harry rarely had a smile on his face, though many chose not to ask him. In his short time in Hogwarts, people knew he liked his privacy and never spoke about his home life. Though today, Harry had a reason for being happy. He was able to qualify for the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team, after scoring the most points in his try outs. As he entered his dorm room, he was surprised to see a package on his bed. A broom shaped package.
'I wonder what it could be!' Harry thought to himself, rolling his eyes
Harry carefully removed the packaging and was pleasantly the surprised to see a Comet 260 which was, at the time, one of the best brooms you could get. Harry smiled, when he found a note wrapped around the brooms shaft.
Harry,
We are so glad to hear you made the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team. Flitwick had sent us a message and he seemed very happy to have you on the team. We are very proud of you and, as a gift, we decided to send you a gift. We had Kreacher deliver it to your bedroom, that way you won't have to wait for an owl to deliver it. You've probably already seen what it is. A Comet 260. The best broom a manufacturer can make. May it be of use in your Quidditch Matches, we will try and be there to watch them as often as we can.
Sirius and Remus
Harrys smile only grew bigger, as he put the note down. He knew the gift was from Sirius and Remus. His parents never got him anything. He couldn't remember the last time he got a Christmas or Birthday present. His parents would never spend money on him, but if Nathaniel had qualified for a Quidditch Team, Harry imagined his parents would demand a custom made broom that was faster then any other, just for Nathaniel. It wouldn't surprise Harry, if that was the case. Choosing to not taint his happiness with thoughts of his family, Harry vanished the packaging and placed the broom in a safe place, until it was time for his first Quidditch Match.
Of course, since then, there have been many brooms that have released, each one faster then the last. Currently he and his friends owned a Nimbus 2000 which was, at the moment, the fastest broom in the world, though there were rumours of the broom company making a new and improved version, called the Nimbus 2001 which had more speed and power then then Nimbus 2000. Harry liked his Nimbus 2000, so decided he would stick with it for now, but change if the new broom lived up to everyone's expectations.
…
As Nathaniel ate his breakfast, he wondered why people weren't screaming and begging for his autograph. He expected all the fangirls to chase after him this morning, or for the other students to ask for his autograph after he was sorted the previous night. He had a special quill ready for signing them. But so far, nothing had happened. Not one fangirl, or autograph signed. No one even spoke to him, besides his best mate, Ron. Nathaniel, for now, decided to shrug it off and give it another day. The other students must have just been feeling too nervous to talk to him and was trying to find the confidence and courage to approach him. He could wait a little longer. He continued eating breakfast, grabbing a handful of sausages from a nearby plate and shoved them in his mouth, not noticing the disgusted looks from the other students, with some turning green.
…
Harry entered Snapes classroom, with Penny, Cho and Cedric. James, Arianna and the Twins weren't with them, as their potion lessons were separate, with Ravenclaws learning with Hufflepuffs whilst Gryffindors learnt potions with Slytherins. The others were currently in Ancient Runes, whilst Aila was in Charms, being a year below them. No matter how many times Harry entered the potions classroom, the cold air always gave him a small chill and the dark atmosphere of the room still made him feel a bit on edge. He sat down beside Penny and waited patiently for Snape to arrive, who did a few minutes later, closing the door behind him with a slam, his cloak billowing behind him as he walked.
"Welcome to your first Potions Lesson of the year" He drawled "I hope I won't need to tell any of you to keep your wands inside your robe pockets, I remember last year we had an…incident"
As Snape spoke, he looked over at Roger Davis, who blushed in embarrassment and shrunk back a little bit in his seat, whilst the other students in the classroom chuckled.
"Now, today you will be making a Pepper-Up Potion" Snape continued, gesturing to the chalkboard scribbled with instructions and diagrams "A simple potion, but one that can be difficult to brew…fortunately there are no severe side effects should you get it wrong, only minor fatigue and steam emitting from the drinkers ears for a short period of time…however, you Potter, will be making something else entirely…the Draught of Peace, the instructions for that, is on the other board, I look forward to see how well you do with this one…now, get to it"
After Harry's First Year, Snape had begun giving him more harder and complex potions to make during lessons, when Harry easily breezed through the lessons, making perfect potions. Snape noticed Harry looked fairly bored with how easy things seemed to be for him, and so whilst the other students made potions that were on level with their current year and curriculum, Harry made potions that wouldn't be taught for years. Some other students were annoyed by this, feeling like a small case of favouritism was going on, whilst others simply let it slide as they could see how bored Harry was with easy work.
Other the years, Harry and Snape held mutual respect to one another. Harry didn't know if he would call each other friends, but it seemed to be the case. To begin with, Harry was a student that Snape merely tolerated, due to a grudge the man had with James Potter. Harry understood that, seeing as Harry remembered Sirius telling him how his father used to bully and prank Snape, with one prank going too far, when James Potter convinced Snape to explore inside the Shrieking Shack, at the same time Remus was transforming under the full moon. Thankfully, James Potter understood that his prank went too far and saved Snape, before anything bad could happen, but since then Snape held a bitter grudge against him. Because of this, Snape never really had much respect for Harry either. However, as time went on, that slowly changed. Snape took notice of how skilled the boy was at making potions. He was a prodigy almost. Snape was almost expecting to see the boy make his own potion in the classroom at some point. Snape, at some point, planned to take Harry under his wing and make him an apprentice in Potion Brewing, that is if Harry wanted to take a Masters in Potions. The boy had talent, it would be a shame to waste it.
…
The rest of the potions lesson was rather uneventful, as everyone was practically quiet, as they made their potions. Harry had been able to make a Draught of Peace, without much hassle, though he felt like it was a little too runny. Snape had reassured him a little bit, saying that, even if it was a little runny, it was still a perfect potion that will get the job done. As they made their way down to their next lesson, which was Defence Against the Dark Arts, with all the other Houses, They met up with James, Arianna and the Twins.
"Hello you three" Fred greeted
"How was your potions class?" George asked
"It was fine, not to difficult" Harry shrugged "How was Ancient Runes?"
"It was fine" James repeated Harry's answer, wrapping an arm around his shoulders "Though, we there is something we thought you'd like to know…as we made our way to meet you, we overheard a couple of First Years"
"Gossip James?" Cho asked "Thought you didn't like gossip"
"Well, this was too good to not bring up" James replied
"So what was it?" Harry asked
"It seems your brother was unable to turn a matchstick into a needle, in his Transfiguration Lesson" Arianna smirked "And was apparently the only one who failed to do so"
"Are you being serious right now?" Cedric asked
"Dead serious" James smirked
"Apparently, at one point, he accidently made his matchstick go flying across the classroom" George spoke up
"And, at another point, his wand went flying out of his hand, after doing the wand movement for the incantation" Fred added
"Boy, are we screwed" Penny commented "If people look to him to save us from some Dark Lord, as he is our 'saviour', we might as well just wave a white flag and surrender…if he can't get a simple spell to work, I dread to think what will happen when he learns more complex, dangerous spells"
"He'll have to make it to those points first Penny" Harry replied "He has not intellect, he'll be lucky to make it past First Year"
…
After lessons were over for the day, Harry and his friends decided to play a friendly game of Quidditch between themselves, before curfew, Harry, Cho, Aila and George against James, Arianna, Fred and Cedric. Aila joined them as she had decided that she was going to try out for the Hufflepuff Team and thought it would make some good practice. Penny was the only one not playing, but decided to referee the game. As the game went on, Harry noticed they had drawn quite a crowd, mainly built of fan girls, who cheered for Harry, when his team won the game.
"You may want to leave Harry and quickly" James commented, hovering next to Harry, a smirk on his face "Those fan girls look ready to pounce on you, as soon as your feet touch the ground"
Harry looked down to the crowd of fangirls and thought that his friend was right and so flew towards the castle, his friends laughing when a load of girls chased after him. As soon as Harrys feet touched the ground, he quickly ran into the castle and made several twists and turns down different corridors, so he could lose the girls that had started chasing him. It was only when he was sure that he lost them, he started making his way to the Ravenclaw Common Room. He let out a small relieved breath, as he ran a hand through his hair. It was times like this, where he had second thoughts about playing Quidditch Professionally.
…
Dumbledore set up the locking charms on the room that housed the Cerberus he had Hagrid bring in. The Philosophers Stone was in place, with several traps and defences set up to protect it. It was only a matter of time. Quirrell would go after it, sooner or later, for his master. Dumbledore knew Quirrell was a servant to Voldemort and, recently, Voldemort has been keeping himself hidden, sharing Quirrell's body. The man may be a good actor, but Dumbledore wasn't fooled. Dumbledore thought about stopping Quirrell himself, but thought it would make a decent test for Nathaniel. The boys strength needed to be tested as, according so some of his colleagues, Nathaniel wasn't doing so well in his classes. Dumbledore shrugged it off, believing Nathaniel needed to some time to adjust to using magic. When Dumbledore leaves a few hints throughout the year, Nathaniel will find the location of the Philosophers Stone and go down to stop Quirrell. Dumbledore will have to watch from a difference, remaining hidden, just in case something went wrong, but Dumbledore was sure that Nathaniel will stop Quirrell without much difficulties. Nathaniel was the Boy-Who-Lived, the Child of the Prophecy, he was the only one who can defeat Voldemort.
Only Nathaniel, and no one else.
…
And chapter 2 is done.
What did you guys think. I remember reading through it and wondering if things were moving a bit too slow, but I'll leave that for you to decide. What will happen next? No idea. It will be a surprise for both of us as, right now, I don't know what will happen in the next chapter. My head has so many ideas in my head, that my brain is like a claw machine, picking up random ones, as I write, so for all I know, Harry could end up burning Hogwarts to the ground, after throwing Quirrell off the top of the Astronomy Tower. Don't ask how my brain thought of that, I never understand anything my brain comes up with.
I am still unsure if there will be any pairings in this story and right now, I still don't have any ideas for pairings, so if you have any ideas, please do leave some ideas.
That is all for now, I hope you enjoyed and I'll see you next time.
