Kelly is walking down the sidewalk, she knew Roland was following her. He's been following her for a week now. Sighing heavily she stops in her tracks and turns around. "I know you're following me Roland! Show yourself now!" She orders. She watches as a man with sunglasses walked out from around a corner.
"Master Kaiba is concerned about you, is all." He said as he walked up to her.
"Yeah right." She started to turn, but he grabs her arm, stopping her.
"You've been rattled for a number of days."
"If it'll get you off my back." Kelly turns to him.
XxXxXxXxXxXxX
Seto Kaiba sat behind his desk in his office, when the doors slide open and Kelly walks in. "Seto! I don't need your dogs following me around everywhere I go!" She yells, stalking up to his desk, and he looks at her.
"What are you blabbering about?" He asked in his icy cold way.
Mokuba jogs in. "It was me!" He announces, making both turn to look at him.
"You, Mokuba?" Kelly asked in surprise.
"Yeah." The youngest moved to the large desk, looking up at the two. "I heard that you had a run in with Pegasus and."-
"WHAT!?" Kaiba screamed. "A run in with Pegasus?!" He demanded.
Kelly sighed in defeat. "Yes."
Kaiba stood up from his chair so fast that his chair rolled backwards, hitting the large window. "What did he do to you!? What were you doing with that snake!? He's dangerous!"
She looks at him. "You're equally as dangerous." She said calmly. "Maybe even more."
He growled.
"Kelly." Mokuba grabbed the edge of the desk and leaned up on his tip toes, since she's sitting on the edge of the desk. "What happened?" He asked in concern.
"I don't know."
"Pfft." Kaiba grabbed his chair and sat back down, making her look at him.
"I don't!"
"Something must've happened." Mokuba said with worry. "You were rattled!"
Kelly sighed. "Fine. I went to Yugi's to watch the Duel Tournament. But everything changed when Yugi put a video in the VCR."
"And?" Kaiba growled, impatient. Kelly gave him an irritated look then turned to look away.
"Once Yugi put the tape in. Pegasus showed his face and congratulated Yugi on his beating you. Then he wanted a duel right there right now."
"Huh?" Mokuba blinked. "How can you do that over a video?" He asked confused.
"Pegasus said it was magic, and suddenly." Kelly paused. "I was frozen."
"If he did anything, I'm gonna!"-
"Cool your jets, Seto." She turns to him. "I wasn't the only one frozen. Tea, Joey, Tristan and Yugi's grandpa. And then the next thing I know, a light flew out of the TV going past me and hitting Yugi's grandpa. After that we were unfrozen."
Mokuba shivered. "What did the light do?"
"Once Yugi calmed down. He told us Pegasus stole his grandfather's soul." Kelly shuttered when she felt a cold shiver that run down her spine.
XxXxXxXxXx
Later. Yugi is sitting on the roof of the school, the Millennium Puzzle in his hands.
"I promise we will find a way to save your Grandfather, Yugi." The Spirit in the Puzzle promised.
"I hope so." Yugi said in thought. "I can't lose him, I'm not ready."
The roof doors open to reveal James and Kelly. "Hey Yugi." James said with a soft smile. "You ok, buddy?"
An irk mark appeared on Kelly's head."Of course he's not ok!" She yelled at him, making him jump away from her and franticly shake his hands in front of him.
"Ok! Bad wording!" He said with beads of sweat drops on his head. "Calm down!"
Yugi had to smile at them. "I'm ok guys. Thanks, my dad is on his way. He'll be here soon."
"That's good." Kelly smiles, moving to sit on a crate.
"You should tell your friends about me." The Spirit told Yugi. "I do not mind."
Yugi bit and chewed on his lower lip. "Ok." He nods. "Kelly, James." He held up his Puzzle. "Do you know how I got this?" He asks.
"Your Grandfather gave you that, didn't he?" James asked. "I remember when we met that you had it." He scratched the side of his head.
"As far as I've known you, you've always had it." Kelly added.
Yugi smile at the Puzzle in his hands. "There's a spirit inside this puzzle." He began to explain.
"A spirit?" James asked.
"What are you talking about?" Kelly asked.
"A Spirit. He's super cool and nice. And helps me and." Yugi trailed off as he pushed himself to his feet. "He can explain things better then I can right now."
Kelly and James watch with wide eyes as a small whirlpool of wind surrounded Yugi. And in his place stood a man who looked just like Yugi. The hair, same eye color, but the shape of the guys eyes are different and the school uniform actually fit as he was an inch taller.
"Hello." He greets. "I am the Spirit who resides in the Millennium Puzzle."
"Whoa!" James breathed. "What happened to Yugi?"
"He's safe."
"Who are you? Where did you come from?" Kelly asked.
"I have been trapped inside the Millennium Puzzle for centuries." The Spirit explained to them. "As for who I am. I'm afraid I lost my memories."
"You have amnesia?" James asked. "That stinks."
The Spirit moved along the roof, putting his hands in the uniform pockets. "Yugi is talented with dueling on his own, but when things come complicated or dangerous and when the stakes become to high that's when I step in."
"Like when Kaiba forced Yugi into a duel?" James asked.
The Spirit nods, turning to face them. "Yes. And when Pegasus also forced him into a duel."
"I want to apologize that Seto forced you to duel him." Kelly told him.
"You have nothing to apologize for." The Spirit told her. "Seto Kaiba thought he could bully his way into getting what he wants, he had no right into taking it. It is clear that the dueling game has changed drastically over the years."
Kelly pressed her lips together. "Spirit." She took a step backwards when he turned to her. "Sorry, I don't know your name."
"It's alright. You may call me that."
She nods. "Thanks. Um, the Millennium Puzzle. Is that what happened to Yugi's grandfather?"
"No. His spirit was taken, stolen by another Millennium Item."
Before more conversation could take place, the bell rang. The Spirit disappeared and Yugi soon had his body back.
"Come on guys! We don't wanna be late!" Yugi said, turning and jogging to the roof doors. Kelly quickly ran after him.
"Wow! That guy was cool." James smiled as he quickly ran after his friends. "Maybe cooler then Yugi!"
"I heard that!"
XxXxXxXxXxXx
After school, Yugi unlocked the front door of the game shop and once he opened the door, he immediately stepped on something. "Huh?" He looks down to see an envelope under his foot. "What's this?" Bending down to pick up the envelope he opens it to find five cards inside. "It's from Pegasus!" He pulls out a letter. "And an invitation to the tournament at Duelist Kingdom."
"Duelist Kingdom?" A voice behind Yugi, asked. "You wouldn't be asking about me, would ya?"
Yugi turns and smiles. "Dad! You made it!"
"I did." The man smiled. "Once I'm all settle in, we can talk over pizza."
Yugi smiles. "Sounds good!"
XxXxXxXxXx
The following day at school. Yugi told his friends about the tournament.
"A tournament at Duelist Kingdom?" Tea asked. "Isn't that an island?"
"So, that's where Pegasus is keeping your grandpa." Joey replied.
"Maybe. The only way to know for sure is to become a contestant." Yugi replied. "The boats going to be leaving in two days."
"You can't go!" Tea protested. "I could be dangerous!"
"I have to go!" Yugi argued. "It's the only clue I have for rescuing Grandpa."
"I still can't believe it. Pegasus used some kind of weird spell to grab your grandpa's soul away, and now he's toying with you. Forcing you to duel in the tournament." Tristan said.
"Right and without invitations, we can't even go with you." Joey said. "I wish we could help you pal."
"He won't be alone." James said. "Cause I'll be there. I have an invitation too."
"This is bad." Tea said, turning to look out the window, just as Tristan picks up two cards.
"Hey Yugi, check this out." Tristan said, looking at the cards. "According to this card, the tournament winner takes the grand prize of three million dollars."
That grabbed Joey's attention. "Three mill?"
"And that interests him how?" Kelly asked.
"Yeah." Yugi agreed. "Who cares about money at a time like this?"
"Gimme that!" Joey cried, grabbing the card out of Tristan's hands. "Ah, three million!" He cues at the card.
"I guess Joey does." Yugi said, staring up at him.
"Three million in cold cash." Joey said dreamily as hugged the card with stars in his eyes.
Kelly and Tea look at each other.
"Yug, what'd your dad say?" James asked, turning to him.
"He told me to go. And win back grandpa's soul. He'll be watching the tournament on the TV."
"Awesome! He can watch with my parents if he wants."
XxXxXxXxXxXx
Kelly yelped when she was pulled to the side, later that day and a hand clasped over her mouth to keep her from screaming.
"Shhh! It's me, Joey." He let her go.
"Damn it, Joey! What's the deal with the scare!?" She demanded, turning to him.
"I'm going on that boat!" He said with determination. "And you're going with me!"
"Excuse me?"
"Yugi needs backup!" Joey defended himself.
She didn't look convinced. "Gee, I thought it was cause you were in love with the prize money. You kept hugging the card till it was wrinkled." She bends down to pick up her bag that she dropped. "I'm not a duelist. Do you know how much trouble you could be in if they find out you snuck aboard? I can't afford that. Besides, remember the last time you cooked up an idea? The lost swallowed the key to the handcuffs when we entered that three legged race."
"One mistake."
"Con Tristan into going with you." With that Kelly walked away.
XxXxXxXxXxXx
That night on the pier. Kelly is sitting in the living room as she tries to do homework. "Agh!" She shoves her math book to the floor, just as the doorbell rang. "That better be the ten minute late pizza!" She walked out of the living room and headed to the door.
Tristan and Tea stood there with bags.
"We gotta go, why aren't you coming?" Tea asked. "Yugi's our friend! Why aren't you wanting to help?"
"1 I'm not a duelist and 2 do you have any idea how much trouble we can get into if they find out we snuck aboard?"
"But Yugi's grandfather is in danger!" Tristan protested. "Screw the rules! Haven't you broken the rules to do what's right?"
"Ok, ok!" Kelly caved. "Let me grab a bag and leave a note for my aunt."
XxXxXxXxXx
On the pier Yugi and James are standing with a bunch of people. "Wow, there's a lot of people here." James replied as he looked at the crowd.
"Oh yeah." Yugi nods.
James turns to him. "Yugi. I'm not doing this for that prize money, I'm here to help you save your grandfather."
Yugi smiled, feeling touched. "Thank you so much James."
"Attention all duelists, welcome to this event sponsored by Industrial Illusions." A man on stood at the top of the ramp, called down. "You received with your invitation the star chips that will grant you entry into the contest. You are all elite, invited by us after close observation of your past duel monsters contests. You each have a fair and equal chance to win it all comes down to how well you've chosen your cards and how well you play. Now then, duelists, cross the ocean and enter the Duelist Kingdom."
Everyone lined up and started to board the ship.
"Present you star chips as you board the vessel." Another man in a suit, orders.
XxXxXxXxXxXx
Tristan, Tea and Kelly snuck around everybody. "This is crazy." Kelly said, then froze when a man in a suit walked up, near earshot range.
Tristan quickly snakes his arm around her waist, pulling her to his chest as he ducks down and they crawl towards Tea.
"Is it possible to have a heart attack while still young?" Kelly asked in a whisper, earning Tristan to place a hand over her mouth.
"Shh." He used his free hand to put a finger to his lips. The man in the suit walked near the crates and looked around until he got distracted by Joey.
"Ok." Whispered Tea, her head poked out from around a crate. "They're distracted. Let's go."
"Right." Tristan nods, pulling Kelly by the hand.
"We're gonna get arrested." She said, letting him pull her to the ship.
The three quickly hid in the shipping container, just before it was lifted up.
"Whoa." Tea fell backwards into Tristan as the container was set down.
"Shh." Tristan shushed her.
Tea glared at him. "Don't shush me, Tristan."
"Pipe down." He told her.
XxXxXxXxXxXx
"I'm glad they let you on board, Joey." Yugi said as he, Joey, and James leaned on the railing as the ship started to leave.
"Only because you sacrificed one of your star chips for me." Joey said. "But if any of the other players find out we only have one star chip each, they could really take advantage of us."
"Then shut your trap about it." James told him. The three didn't see a blonde girl staring at them with a smirk on her beautiful face.
"Hmm." She hummed.
"Kind of exciting, isn't it guys?" Joey asked, watching the ocean.
"Yeah." Yugi agrees with a nod.
"Well, what do we have here?" The blonde questioned as she approached them, making the three turn to her.
Joey is instantly awestruck. "Wow."
"So, you're that Yugi kid everybody's talking about, huh?" She asked, looking at Yugi.
"Whoa, check it out." Joey fawned over the girl.
"I'm amazed that a squirt like you could beak Seto Kaiba. You're famous, you know." She tells him,
"Thanks very much, I think." Yugi said.
"Hey miss, I'm a really good friend of the famous Yugi, the master duelist. In fact."-
"Look, you're either a champ or a chump!" The blonde girl cuts Joey off in a firm voice. "Cut both these boys loose. He's fashion challenge and he'll cry for his mommy in the middle of a duel. Both of them deserves to be crushed in the games." With that she turns, flipping her long blonde hair into Joey's face.
"Please crush me." Joey begged, still drooling.
"Who do you think you are, lady?" James grumbled, folding his arms.
"The future Mrs. Wheeler perhaps?" Joey still drooled.
"Snap out of it Joey!" James snapped, he turns to the blonde girl. "I'm a champion in my home country, America."
"I'll crush you all eventually. The name's Mai. I'll see you boys around." With that she turns and disappears through the crowd.
"How arrogant! There's nobody better at playing duel monsters then Yugi!" Tea growls, giving Mai a very dark glare.
"Shush!" Tristan tells her, playing a finger to his lips. "Quiet or they'll hear you."
"I don't care! Both Yugi and James are still the best!"
"You're already letting Pluto know of your crush on Yugi." Kelly shook her head. "Why not let the rest of the world know?" She asked with a shrug.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Tea demands.
"There are people out there like my ex, who will do anything to crush the competition!"
"What!?" Tea demanded, glaring.
"Yugi doesn't have a clue about your crush! And you're not helping, you're just sitting there stewing when Yugi gets hit on!"
"Kaiba's really rubbed off on you!" Tea growls.
"I dated him for five years!"
"Ladies, ladies!" Tristan jumps in between the two.
"BUTT OUT TRISTAN!" Both girls yell in union.
"Whoa!" Tristan jumps away from the two angry girls. "Yikes!" He said with multiple sweat drops.
"You're not the type to be mean, Hartford!"
"Your crush on Yugi is annoying, Gardener!"
"Say goodbye to Exodia!"
Both girls stop glaring at each other and turn to the voice. "Huh?" They watch as Weevil Underwood threw cards over the railing and they fly through the air and eventually end up in the water.
"No!" Yugi shouts as he watches his card disappear through the ocean, and Weevil laughs.
"Now there's no one who can challenge me." He walks away.
"Why you." Joey glares darkly at him.
"Underwood! My dragons will stomp your stupid bugs and your stupid glasses off your stupid face!" James yells.
Yugi runs to the railing. "My cards! Those were the Exodia cards that my Grandpa gave me!"
Joey places a foot on the railing. "I'll get them." He jumps overboard.
"Joey, don't!" Yugi watches as Joey makes it into the water. "Joey, where are you!?" He watches as Joey surfaces.
"Joey!" James yells.
"Joey, they're not worth drowning over!" Yugi shouts.
"Joey! Swim back to the ship!" James yells. "I don't think he can hear us, Yug." They watch as Joey is swept underwater.
"Joey!" Yugi shouts, before he jumps overboard too.
Tea, Kelly and Tristan run over. "James, do something!" Tea yells.
"I can't swim!"
"I'll go in!" Kelly said, putting her left foot on the railing and prepared to jump, but Tristan hooked his arms around hers and pulls her back.
"No way, Kaiba will burn the city to the ground!" He told her keeping her restrained, as James spots a rope ladder nearby.
The youngest rushes over to it. "Tea, help me!" He orders. Together the two grab the ladder and throw it overboard.
"Yugi!" Tea shouts. Yugi looks up to see his friends, and the ladder
"Grab a hold!" James yells. "Hurry!"
Both Yugi and Joey grab a hold of the ladder and start to climb up. Joey falls over the railing and onto the floor of the ship in a big wet mess. James and Tea grab Yugi's hands, and Kelly grabs the back of his shirt to pull him up, and Yugi falls landing sideways on Joey.
"Man, you two look like two drenched cats!" James tried to joke.
"Thanks a lot you guys." Yugi breathed.
"We're a team." Tea said. "We all stick together."
"We'll always watch your back." Tristan added, as Yugi rolled off Joey
"I'm sorry Yugi."
"Huh?" Joey's friends looks at him.
"I failed. I only found two of your cards." Joey explained, holding up two.
"It's ok, Joey." Yugi smiled.
"It's not ok. It's always this way with me." Joey couldn't look at his friends as he sat on his hands and knees, still dripping wet. "I'm never able to help anybody. Not even my own sister, Serenity."
"Really? You have a sister, Joey?" Tea asked.
"Our parents divorced years ago when we were kids." The blonde explained. "She lives with my mom. My sister's had really bad eyes since she was born, Eventually, she'll go blind." He tried to wipe the water off his face. But their are specialists who could preform the operation now before it's two late. They could save her eyesight. But there's no way I could pay for the operation. I have to win, for her. Winning in the Duelist Kingdom and getting the prize money is the only way to help Serenity."
The sun starts to rise as the horn begins to blow.
"We'll both do our best, Joey." Yugi said with confidence. "You for your sister and me for my grandpa."
"That's right." Tea encouraged. "We'll do this together."
"Because that's what real friends do." Kelly said, putting a towel around Joey's shoulders, then another one around Yugi's shoulders.
Tristan turns and smiles. "Look, the island." He sees it up ahead.
"That's Duelist Kingdom." Yugi said, wrapping the towel tighter around himself. "That's it. We're almost there."
