Amelia Bones, the director of the Magical Law Enforcement Department, sat in her office when an auror abruptly barged in. She frowned slightly, casting a discerning gaze upon the new arrival. However, her expression deepened as she detected the extreme worry etched across the auror's face.
"Director!" the Auror began after catching his breath from his hurried run, "a massive magical explosion has been detected in the muggle area of Surrey. Initial reports suggest that there has been a magical attack."
The idea of Death Eaters immediately crossed her mind, but she dismissed the thought. Death Eater attacks had ceased entirely after You-Know-Who's miraculous demise at the hands of a young Harry Potter, and some of his most fanatical followers were now imprisoned in Azkaban. Amelia stood up decisively, gesturing for the Auror to follow her as she grabbed her cloak.
"Let's go," she said, leading the way toward the Ministry Floo, and then apparating to the area in Surrey where the explosion had occurred. The sight that met her eyes made her reconsider the Ministry's belief that all Death Eaters had ceased their activities. Only the darkest of magics could obliterate an entire area, leaving nothing but ashes in its wake.
Suddenly, exclamations reached her ears, and she realized the cause as she spotted a man with a flowing white beard and half-moon spectacles making his way toward the cordoned off area, surrounded by aurors.
Frowning once again, a habit she seemed to be indulging in today, she approached the Supreme Mugwump and Headmaster of Hogwarts.
"Albus," she greeted the man curtly. "What are you doing here? This is a restricted area where only authorized personnel are allowed to enter."
The old man regarded Amelia with those deep blue eyes that were usually twinkling but now held grave concern. "Cornelius authorized my entry, Amelia, so there's no need to worry. Now, if you would excuse me, I have something to look for and some answers to find," he replied mysteriously and the walked towards the affected area, leaving Amelia puzzled as to why the most powerful wizard in Britain was so concerned about a muggle attack.
