Jamie sits on the couch in the room she shares with her guardians and best friends. Struggling with the feeling of isolation. Even with her friends and in a base with many Autobots and soldiers. Oddly, she's thinking of reading her journal on her phone that she hasn't written in for years. She chooses to read the entry from the day. Smiling while reading the entry and how happy she was typing it. This quickly turns to sadness as she remembers the day.
As promised, Joshua Joyce bought Cade a home. While it's uncertain if the Autobots are still wanted, Cade, Jamie, her two friends, and Joyce possibly ending up as criminals, Cade wanted a home everyone could be happy to live in. However, Tessa is not pleased with the idea.
Everyone looks around the house and property. The Autobots aren't pleased they're stuck on Earth, even with their new friends. The uncertainty of they're still targets is what makes it hard to enjoy.
A few weeks passed. The uncertainty is still there, but everyone is more relaxed. Jamie sits on the bed in the room Cade gave her for when she's in this dimension, thinking about a certain mech.
I can't believe it. She thinks. All the years with the Autobots, I'm in love with one. I shouldn't be for many reasons.
She's interrupted by a knock on the door. Drift's holoform walks in, looking worried. He sits on the bed beside Jamie. Jamie can't believe what he's saying.
"Wait you love me?"
"I always have, even with what was happening when we met. I was worried I was falling in love blindly since I barely knew you. Took only six months to know, but I didn't know when to tell you. I know two years later is ridiculous, but with what we've been dealing with. Even though we don't know if we're still targeted. Now just seemed like a good time..." Jamie smiles but isn't sure what to say, "my turn to ask if you love me?" Drift smiles.
"I... there's many reasons I shouldn't, but I do."
"We won't be a typical relationship, but we'll figure it out."
With Jamie's small size, Drift moves her onto his lap to hug her. The room is quiet for a few minutes.
"Finally," they hear Crosshairs, "hey, he told me first. Mr. Positive here was actually afraid to tell you."
Even with how much time has passed, Jamie can't believe Crosshairs is ok with his friend dating a human or that he argues the three have been friends for two years.
"He's just embarrassed to say he's friends with a human," Drift jokes, "and ordered to protect six. Until you, Jayce, and J.R. return to your dimensions."
Jamie cries, remembering that day. She lies on the bed to cry.
"...I don't know what —" Drift says, interrupted by Jamie's crying.
Drift finds Jamie's phone on the coffee table, sees what she was reading, and shows Crosshairs.
"You want me to leave?" Crosshairs asks.
"No, you remember that day? This isn't just about my relationship with her."
"Come here," Drift says, moving Jamie onto his lap. Crosshairs sits on the bed beside him, "you know how much I love you. You remember I said we'd figure it out. I was already watching you struggle mentally. I just can't believe the challenges you're dealing with now."
Crosshairs doesn't know what to add to this, as Drift hugs Jamie. Hating even with many friends and a mech who loves her, Jamie feels isolated and alone.
I hate how it feels like it'll take a miracle to help her. Crosshairs thinks.
