As Crosshairs thought, the happiness wouldn't last long.
The two mechs are used to this, but it's always challenging to watch, not after what they call the nightmare situation. Not even Ratchet or Optimus — who have watched Jamie go through this many times — can convince the two that what they saw is rare. With Drift caring for Jamie, Crosshairs gets something nice for his stressed friend.
He hates that on his way out, Cade, Cogman, and Vivian know something is up. He hates how they'd have to know, but the fact he can't leave the house without them knowing something is up is troubling. Crosshairs tells them to leave Drift alone for now before leaving.
Even though it's just breakfast, Crosshairs knows Drift will like what he got.
Crosshairs sees Drift sitting on the bed, staring out the window.
"I got one of your favorites for breakfast," Crosshairs tells him.
Drift looks at what Crosshairs got for him and what Crosshairs got himself.
"I hate it," Drift says.
"No, you don't."
Drift stares at Crosshairs in disbelief. He takes a few seconds to realize that Crosshairs is talking about what he got.
"I'm sorry, I—."
"I know, watching her go through this is never easy. Even if it's minor. Not after what we went through seven years ago."
"I know she can't get worse with this level, but still, she's in a coma for a week. The more fragged up part is I wonder if she's getting a break from nightmares."
He's terrified. Crosshairs observes, making his usual worried mind when Jamie goes through a flare-up look like nothing.
Crosshairs hates it when both of his friends go through what he calls the full circle. Doing fine mentally — even Jamie with her anxiety and depression — to failing apart and struggling. Now, both his friends are struggling. Crosshairs believes he needs to get Drift to tell him what happened in his nightmare that terrified him last night, but first, the two eat their breakfast. Both try not to stare at the monitor on Jamie's nightstand. Relieved Ratchet doesn't make them bring Jamie to the medbay, but it's not all good when the reason is their medical training. Not enough to fill in for Ratchet or help any seriously wounded Autobots or shoulders, but enough for basic first aid and to care for Jamie's medical condition.
After the two eat, Crosshairs tries to get Drift to tell him about his nightmare. Crosshairs knows Drift likely dreamt about Jamie being dead, but wasn't for what Drift described.
Explains why he's having a harder time with Jamie dealing with a flare-up. Crosshairs thinks. Not is a good time for this to happen.
While they were told to stay away from the room for now, Cade and Vivian heard what Drift said. The two don't think they'll be much help, but they want to try to help both their friends. Vivian has only been told what Cade, Crosshairs, and Drift dealt with seven years ago. She doesn't believe another situation they all went through is close to what the three call the nightmare situation.
The four try to help each other, but thinking positively with every challenge they face is hard. Even though they know Jamie won't decline while dealing with the flare-up. Crosshairs hopes his friends make a full circle and are as happy as they were four months ago.
