One thing Jamie hates about allergies is that she doesn't know if her allergies are acting up or if she has a cold until the next day when she feels like scrap to get out of bed. Even her friends wonder if Jamie is sick or it's allergies. They know a cold doesn't necessarily have a fever, so the medics won't be able to confirm if Jamie is sick before she feels like scrap.
Jamie continues the day as if it's her allergies. No one notices her mental struggle because they're worried she might be sick. Most would say it is a serious screw-up, but Jamie isn't bothered. She's in no mood to talk about what's on her mind other than how she wonders if she's sick.
By two in the afternoon, she feels like she needs to go back to bed. Crosshairs sees Jamie walking down the hallway from the training room. He stops her as she walks by.
"You look a little pale," he comments while lifting her head to see her face.
"Leave me alone."
Possibly sick and having a rough day. Crosshairs observes.
Crosshairs feels Jamie's forehead.
So it is a cold rather than allergies. Crosshairs realizes.
He picks Jamie up to carry her upstairs.
He lies Jamie in bed and checks the time.
"It's early enough that Drift can make soup."
Crosshairs texts Drift gets clothes, and goes into the bathroom.
Ten minutes pass before Drift walks into the room. Jamie is asleep, and Drift can now see that Jamie is sick.
What is this? The rest of the year is going to be scrap for her? Drift wonders, even though it's the end of October.
Holidays are bad enough as it is. Drift sighs.
With the chicken for the soup cooking, Drift sits on the edge of the bed, waiting for Crosshairs. Worried that Crosshairs thinks Jamie will be asleep and he's alone to cry.
Crosshairs wasn't expecting Drift to be waiting for him. Drift isn't surprised that Crosshairs still acts like he's fine other than not pleased Jamie is sick, believing now is not the time to show emotional weakness. Drift was going to say something but leaves the room instead. Crosshairs finds Drift's behavior odd.
A nap didn't help Jamie. Instead, she feels worse. She didn't know Crosshairs was still in the room, noticing that she's cold.
"Downstairs in the living room will be a better place," Crosshairs comments as he picks Jamie up bridal style while she's still under a blanket.
As Crosshairs thought, Cogman has a fire going in the fireplace. He lies Jamie on the couch and turns the TV on.
"You'll be warm and not in the bedroom."
Crosshairs heads to the kitchen.
"Dinner should be done in twenty minutes," Drift tells Crosshairs.
"She's in the living room. I'm going to get the extra blankets out of the closet."
Note to self: have Jamie relax when she's not feeling good, and it's the winter. Drift tells himself.
Once dinner is done, Drift brings three bowls of soup to the living room after letting Cade and Vivian know they can have the soup for dinner and telling them Jamie is sick.
Jamie wants to eat the soup, which is a good sign to her guardians. The two know that come tomorrow morning, she will feel worse. They hope she won't mind being taken to the living room. The two think it's better than staying upstairs for four days.
