Hi everyone, sorry this took so long, but I'm back! I wrote most of this last night and I finished it up today, so enjoy!
Olivia straddled Charles, both naked, and she was kissing him passionately. Olivia heard her phone go off and she groaned, breaking the kiss and picking it up, seeing it was Liz. She answered and smiled when Charles started to kiss her neck. "Hey Liz, you home safe?" She stopped Charles from kissing her neck and her eyes went wide. "You're what? Really!? Okay, get to the hospital safely, we'll meet you there." She hung up and looked at Charles with a huge smile on her face.
Charles looked at her and furrowed his brow. "What?"
Olivia kissed him passionately slipping her tongue past his lips. She held the kiss for a minute then broke it. "Liz is in labor!" She whispered excitedly.
Charles looked at her broke out in a smile and kissed her again.
After a few moments, Olivia broke the kiss and giggled. "We need to get dressed and go to the hospital." Olivia climbed off of him and stood up.
Charles got up picked her up and spun her around. "In a matter of hours, we're going to be holding Ellie in our arms."
Olivia giggled and looked down at Charles and kissed him again as he set her down. "Get dressed so we can go!" She chuckled. The two of them got dressed and grabbed their hospital bag with Ellie's coming home outfit, a onesie that said 'E is for Ellie', floral pants, and an olive green cardigan, and matching booties and headband, as well as extra clothes for the two of them and various other things they may need. They grabbed the car seat/stroller combo hopped in the SUV and drove to the hospital.
Once they arrived they were taken back to Labor and Delivery in the room where Liz was. Olivia rushed to her side and hugged her. "Oh, I'm so excited. Are you in pain? I mean, of course you are but is it unbearable? Do you—"
Liz cut her off. "Olivia, breathe. I'm okay. The baby is okay, it's a waiting game at this point. I'm five centimeters dilated and I have to get to ten. Now it'll be faster than what it would be if this was my first baby, but it's still waiting right now."
Olivia smiled and nodded. "Right, sorry, my head is just full of amazingness right now." She walked over to Charles and wrapped an arm around him.
Charles smiled at his wife. "Can we get you anything, Liz? Ice chips?"
Liz smiled. "I'm okay for right now, thank you." She rubbed her belly. "Have a seat, get comfortable."
Olivia smiled and they sat on the loveseat and got comfortable. She intertwined her fingers with Charles' and rested her head on his shoulder. "This is happening."
Charles kissed the back of her hand. "It's really happening."
Olivia looked up at Charles. "We should call the kids. See if Pauline and the McCanns can keep them a little longer," she whispered.
"Good idea. You call the McCanns and I'll call Pauline."
The two called their respective people and spoke to the kids. Once they both hung up Olivia smiled. "Oh, I can't wait for Ellie to be here!"
A nurse came in and checked Liz for effacement and dilation. She was fully effaced and at 8 centimeters. "Almost baby time, you ready?"
Liz smiled. "Absolutely. I can't wait to give Olivia and Charles their miracle baby."
The nurse smiled. "I'll get the team together. By the time they get here, it should be time to push." The nurse left the room to gather the team.
Olivia turned to Charles, tears streaming down her face. "We're about to have four kids!"
Charles smiled and kissed her softly. "I told you we'd have our fourth baby," he whispered and kissed her forehead.
The team walked in and Olivia and Charles stood up and walked over to the bed on either side, holding Liz's hands. The doctor checked her and smiled. "You're ready to push, baby's descended, you're fully effaced and dilated. So when you have your next contraction I'm gonna have you push. I'll let you know when since you have an epidural."
Liz nodded. "Let's rock and roll."
The doctor looked at the monitor and nodded. "Push!" She encouraged, and Liz bore down and screamed. She took a rest for a few seconds and then pushed again.
Olivia smiled. "Good job, good job, good job," she said, tears running down her face."
The doctor nodded. "You're doing good, she's coming quickly, ready and… push!"
Liz pushed as hard as she could. She'd always had easy and quick deliveries, she was hoping this one wouldn't be any different. She fell back onto the bed and sighed. "How close is she?"
The doctor looked. "I see her head, but it doesn't seem like that last push got her shoulders out. I want you to push on your next contraction and we'll see if her shoulders are stuck. If they are, I'll have to stick my hand inside and rotate her shoulder to hopefully free them."
Olivia looked at the doctor. "What if that doesn't work?"
The doctor looked at Olivia, then Liz, then between Liz's legs. "Then we'll need to do a c-section."
Olivia looked at Charles and then at Liz. Liz spoke up. "Whatever it takes to get Ellie here safely we'll do. It'll be okay, Olivia."
The doctor smiled. "Okay, now push! As hard as you can."
Liz took a deep breath and pushed with all her might, but it was fruitless. Ellie's shoulders were stuck on her pubic bone.
The doctor looked at Liz. "I need to put my hand inside to rotate her shoulders to try to get them to come out. Now, you should just feel some pressure, it shouldn't hurt because of the epidural, but I promise you're in good hands."
Liz nodded. "Just do it." She gripped Olivia and Charles' hands tighter.
The doctor put her hand inside Liz, attempting to free Ellie's shoulders, but it was pointless. "Okay, we need to do the C. But I'm going to push the baby back in to make sure I can do the c-section safely. And Olivia, Charles, unfortunately only one of you can come into the OR."
Olivia looked at Charles. "Who goes in?"
Charles smiled. "You go. I'll be waiting to see our beautiful baby girl."
Olivia smiled. She'd be lying if she said she didn't want to be in the OR with Liz. "Thank you," she mouthed to Charles.
The doctor pushed the baby gingerly back inside of Liz's uterus and then looked at Olivia. "Come with us, we'll get you sterile so you can come into the OR and we'll be all set to go."
Olivia followed the doctor into the OR. She changed into her scrub suit, a gown, gloves, a hair bonnet to cover her hair, and booties to cover her shoes. She was told to wait outside the room as they prepped Liz. Once Liz was prepped Olivia was escorted into the OR and sat by Liz's head. "You're such a trooper Liz."
The doctor looked at the two women and smiled. "Okay, we're going to start now. In less than half an hour, the baby will be here."
The doctor cut open Liz's lower abdomen, through the muscle and in what felt simultaneously like seconds and an eternity, she pulled Ellie out. She cleared her nose and mouth and the most beautiful sound filled the OR, Ellie's cry. "Mom, do you want to cut the cord?"
Olivia smiled stood up and cut the umbilical cord. The nurse came around and took the baby to be cleaned up and checked over. The baby was given to Olivia for a few moments before they put her in a bassinet. The doctor smiled. "Okay, Olivia, go with your baby to the nursery, I'm going to finish up here and Liz will be in recovery."
Olivia followed to bassinet to the nursery and she texted Charles, who asked if he could go back to the nursery and was admitted. He went into the nursery and stood next to Olivia and looked at Ellie. "Oh, she's beautiful."
Olivia smiled and looked up at Charles. "Her cry was so beautiful because it meant she was alive. We have a baby," she whispered and kissed him gently. "And she's healthy and beautiful and safe. Everything, right now, is perfect. Well. Almost. We need the other kids and then it'll be perfect."
Charles smiled. "This moment feels amazing." He reached into the bassinet and gently stroked Ellie's cheek. "Hi, baby girl. I'm your daddy."
Olivia looked at Charles and she smiled. "You know, I was terrified of being the mother of a newborn, but now that she's here…" she shrugged, tears running down her face. "That fear melted away."
Charles rested his hand on the small of her back. "You don't need to be afraid. You're a wonderful mother."
Olivia smiled and wiped her eyes. "And you're a wonderful father," she whispered and kissed him softly. They stayed in the nursery looking at Ellie for a while. "We should go see Liz," she said gently. "But I don't want to leave Ellie."
Charles looked at her. "We should thank her. It could be short and then we could come right back here and sit next to Ellie for as long as we can."
Olivia nodded. "Let's go. Make it quick." They walked from the nursery to Liz's recovery room and smiled. "Hey Liz," Olivia said softly. "How are you feeling?"
Liz smiled gently. "Like I've been hit by a truck. I'm shocked you guys are here. I'd have thought you'd be with Ellie."
Charles smiled. "They took her for her first bath and we wanted to come to thank you for giving us our miracle baby."
Liz smiled. "It was my pleasure." She bit her bottom lip. "I usually say goodbye to the parents about now. I'm going to get some sleep. But thank you guys for everything."
Olivia looked at Liz and smiled. "It's the least we could do," she said gently. "Truly, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you."
With that, Olivia and Charles said goodbye to Liz and they made their way back to the nursery in time for Ellie to be wheeled back in, in her bassinet. Olivia looked at the nurse. "How is she doing?"
The nurse smiled. "She's perfect. Perfect Apgar scores, she did well in her bath. It's just about time to feed her, we have formula here for her, and a rocking chair for you to sit in to feed her and sing to her."
Olivia smiled and looked at Charles then at the nurse. "When can we go home?" She asked eagerly.
The nurse smiled. "As long as everything is good, probably tomorrow. Now, we have to finish the birth certificate, do we have a name?"
Olivia smiled. "Ellie Luna Brooks."
The nurse nodded and filled in the information. "Okay, we'll get this to the right department and you'll leave with a birth certificate that's been printed and stamped.
Charles nodded. "Thank you. One more thing, can we stay with the baby tonight?"
The nurse smiled. "Of course. I'll be right back with a bottle so you can feed her."
Olivia smiled. "Thank you." She looked at Charles and then at Ellie. "We should do skin-to-skin with her," she said softly. "Would you mind if I fed her the first time or is that something you want to do?"
Charles smiled and rubbed her shoulder. "You feed her. When we get home we can both be involved, but I want to take pictures of the two of you."
"Charles," she smiled and gently touched his face. "That means the world to me," she whispered and kissed him softly. Once the nurse came back in with the bottle Olivia sat in the rocking chair and Charles brought Ellie over to her and laid the baby in Olivia's arms. "Hello pretty girl," she croaked out, her voice full of emotion. "Are you hungry?" She took the bottle and held it up to her lips. Ellie took the nipple of the bottle into her mouth and started to suck. "Good girl, sweetheart." She smiled and gently rocked and started to sing her a lullaby.
