Kagome pulled the blankets back, staring up at him in shock. Sesshoumaru shifted slightly, turning on his side and tucking her head under his chin. "I apologize for waking you."
"Why are you still here?" she blurted, one hand splayed wide on his chest. She could see the marks she'd left on him from the night before, though they were far less visible now.
He stiffened. "Were you not expecting me to be?"
"No! I thought you'd wake up early and leave before I woke up!" Her voice was more panicked than she would've liked, but he wasn't acting according to the plans she'd made up in her head, and she couldn't figure out how to connect the dots between what she'd assumed he would do and what he was actually doing.

"Dishonourable, how? Don't you know how a one-night stand works?"
Any lasting emotion drained from his face as he looked up at her. "Were you serious about that?"
She opened her mouth to agree, as it had been her intent, but as she'd been wiling away the minutes before he'd left, she'd known the truth in her heart.

Kagome covered her hands with her face as she shook her head, not wanting to reveal how stupid she'd been. So, he'd seen right through her, even better than she had, and stayed because of honour? Or worse, pity?
"I appreciate the sentiment, but you didn't have to stay," she whimpered. I would've been able to handle it." It was a bald-faced lie, and he could probably smell the deceit, but saying it out loud would save a little bit of her dignity.
"I was unaware you had begun lying to yourself, Kagome." There was still no emotion in his voice, but the way her name sounded on his lips made her shiver, and she thought she heard him chuckle softly, startling her into peeking at him through her fingers.
Sesshoumaru was smiling
