"Hey Evelyn I've been wondering...what exactly is Flapjack? I've figured out by now that he's no normal bird" The witch snickered as she stroked the small bird with her index finger, exciting a satisfied chirp out of him. Evelyn figured she couldn't really blame the man for his curiosity, the human realm didn't really have creatures like Flapjack.

The human realm lacked any form of magical or mysterious creatures she supposed, if it weren't for humans such as Caleb the alternate realm would be rather boring, she thought.

"You are quite right, Flapjack is far from your ordinary bird, though I can't blame you for thinking so at first glance. I did base his design off of my favourite human bird"

"His design?"Caleb questioned, Evelyn nodded.

"Yes, I made him, or rather I calved him. Flapjack is what we call a palisman, the eternal companion of a witch"

"A palisman?" Caleb had been visiting the demon realm a couple of weeks now and recalled the term being mentioned once before, but couldn't recall its definition. He held a hand out for the bird-palisman to land on, which Flapjack happily accepted. Caleb took this opportunity to closer examine the small creature.

The bird truly looked no different from your average cardinal that you could find in the human realm, though he himself hadn't seen many in his time in Gravefield. Seeing a bird such as this would be considered rare, whether it was due to the incorrect habitat or hunting he wasn't quite sure.

"Hold your hand out like this and I'll explain" Caleb watched as the woman positioned her hands as if to grab something such as a broom or weapon of sorts. Sceptical, the young man positioned his hands and within the blink of an eye, the bird fluttered from his hand and magically transformed into a staff-like object. To his surprise, Caleb almost dropped it which made his female companion snort in amusement.

"I saw that coming" she laughed.

"What happened?!"

"Don't worry this is normal, a palisman is a witch's source of amplifying and channelling our magic which has two forms. There's the form you're familiar with, all palisman take on an animal personification that is calved from the wood of a Palistrom tree. And when witches need to channel our magic for spells and flying they will take on this form, as a staff" Evelyn took the staff from his hands and waved a circle in the air, creating a ring of vibrant green light. From this light, Caleb watched as vines began to grow from the ground and entwined itself around them, surrounding them in beautiful coloured blossoms.

The scene seemed surreal, as if it was a page out of a storybook. He watched as the wind disturbed some of the petals making them flow around her as her hair blew wildly around her. Somehow, regardless of its fiercely wild movement, she retained her grace and beauty with her usual confidence carried in the way in which she stood. This feeling was only magnified by she turned towards him and smiled widely over her shoulder.

She was stunning...

Caleb quickly took those thoughts out of his head and did his best to calm the growing burning of his face. Thankfully she didn't seem to notice.

"A palisman is more than just a witch's staff though" He watched as Flapjack returned to being a bird and happily flew laps around Evelyn, causing her smile to widen and laugh along with her companion.

"A palisman knows you better than yourself and it is a part of your soul. That's how you bond, you must understand and utter your most desired wish. Flapjack is my best friend...aside from you of course, no one can replay you blondie" The man smiled, he never would have thought two of his closest friends would consist of a witch and her palisman. He was sure if he were to go back in time and tell his younger self he would have claimed he was bewitched, which in a way he kind of was. But he had grown to love the demon realm and the freedom it had given him. He loved everything about his place...

Then a question suddenly popped into his mind.

"Can a human have a palisman?" Evelyn stopped and pondered his question. She came from a line of palisman carvers and had seen witches and demons of all kinds bond with palisman, but she could never recall seeing a palisman bond with a human. But it didn't mean it wasn't possible, it's just a human had never been given a chance. She saw no reason why a human couldn't.

"I see no reason why not, mean sure I've never seen it happen but if I've learned anything about you humans it's that you are nothing but unpredictable" Caleb laughed.

"I guess so..." The woman walked up to him and grabbed his arm, dragging him across the field laughing as she did so.

"Why did you want one?"

"I mean...maybe?" The grip on his arm tightened.

"I'm sure someday, you will"
