"Sensei, I got you something." Lee came in carrying a laptop that she made. Hawk was with her.
"What is that?" He narrowed his eyes.
"It's a laptop." She put it down in front of him.
"What would I need this for?" He stares at it like it was a piece of trash.
"You could go on the Cobra Kai website or google things instead of being clueless." She used her mostly for anime, manga, and fanfiction. But, that didn't seem like a good suggestion for him.
"You could look up porn, it's way better than your dirty magazines." Hawk recommends.
Johnny opens it and stares at the blank screen. "It's not turning on. It's a dud." He had seen her open her mac and it turned on.
"No, it's not. You have to push the button." She pushed the power button.
"Oh," He leaned back as he watched the screen come to life.
They showed him how to hook up the wifi and get on the internet. "Here you go, Sensei. Have a blast." Hawk dropped the Internet for Dummies book on the desk.
"Oh, here's the charger." Lee took it out of her purse and put it by the outlet.
The teens left the office. "How much do you want to bet that the first thing he's going to do is look up dirty photos?" Hawk smiled.
"That's a fool's bet." She scoffs. They laugh when they hear the office door slam shut.
The Cobra Kai teens decided to do a beach day. Lee had brought a volleyball net with a ball that had a Cobra Kai sticker on it for the purpose of her Karasuno bikini making sense. Demetri and Lee were playing against Hawk and Moon. Demetri smacked the ball up in the air but it was not going to make it over the net. Lee jumps to push it, giving it the force it needs to do so. Hawk's and Moon's eyes were on Lee's chest instead of the ball. It slammed down into the sand by Moon's feet.
"Yeah, another point for us." Demetri and Lee high-fived.
"That only because you have two bouncy distractions on your team." Hawk didn't like losing.
"What are you talking about? I'm good at this sport." He pushed his chest out in pride.
"What are you talking about? You haven't been able to make it over the net on your own." Hawk scoffs.
"Alright, I'll show you." He put his hands up. Moon tosses the ball over to him. Demetri moved forward, thinking it would give him a better chance. He rolled his neck to psych himself up. He held the ball out with his left hand to hit it with his right, making the ball fly into the middle of the net.
"Uh… Mulligan, sent it back." Demetri put his hands on his hips.
"There's no mulligan in volleyball." Hawk shook his head.
"Say you." He scoffs. Hawk gave him a look of disbelief. "Water break." He walks to the sidelines. He wipes his face with Hawk's Cobra Kai towel making his friend more irritated with him.
The towel caught the attention of two pretty girls walking by. "Cobra Kai? You guys won the karate tournament, right?" The tan girl wearing an orange tank top asked.
Demetri stared at them for a second in disbelief that they were talking to him before he cleared his throat. "The All Valley? The Rumble in Reseda?" He throws the towel over his shoulder as he gains more confidence. "Yes, uh, we certainly did." He leaned against the net pole.
Lee went up to Hawk when she saw him narrowing his eyes at Demetri. "Let him have this." She hugs his arm. He huffed. He was annoyed that Demetri wanted all the perks of being a Cobra Kai without putting any of the work in.
"Cool. We're gonna go for a swim but maybe play with you later?" She smiled brightly.
"Pfft… most def." He cringes when he hears himself. He sounded like an old person trying to use modern slang. "That means most definitely." He smiled when the girls gave a flirty giggle as they walked off.
"Look at you player." Moon laughed, happy to see him getting his flirt on. She went to grab a water bottle from the cooler.
"It'd be nice if you earned the Cobra Kai cred since you're so happy to take it. When are you ever gonna sign up?" Hawk glares.
"I don't know. I'm kind of enjoying the gain without the pain." Demetri chuckles. Lee was sure that Hawk was holding himself back from hitting him.
"Hawk." Lee let out the breath she was holding when Miguel came over.
"Hey, there's the man." They did their bro handshake.
"What's up?" Miguel's gloomy tone was back.
"No. No more of this. Look, it's a beautiful day out. The beach is packed with babes. No more sulking about Sam." Hawk wasn't about to let his depression ruin the day.
"I'm not sulking about Sam. It's about Sensei." He scoffs like it was ridiculous for them to think he was still on Sam.
"What about Sensei?" Lee asks.
"Is this about his rap sheet? My parents read it online. I think it makes him more badass." That night was a long one for Hawk. He had to do a lot of begging for them to let him stay in Cobra Kai.
"It's about him and Robby Keene." He told them.
"Oh, there is a connection between them. I knew it." Lee pats herself on the back for being right.
"I went to Sensei's apartment last night and there was a picture of Robby as a kid on his fridge. I think Robby is his son." He explained his theory.
"That would make a lot of sense." Lee nods.
"Then it's bullshit that he wanted us to hand his son the All Valley trophy. " Hawk snaps.
"We'll do some research tonight, but let's enjoy the day." She looks at the ice cream truck that pulled into the parking lot. "Come on, Moon, let's get ice cream." She yelled. The girls ran to get to the line that was building fast.
"Oh, I want ice cream too." Demetri followed after.
"What are we going to do if he is?" Hawk looks over at his friend.
"We confront him and go from there." He gave his order.
"Alright, hey you want to play? We can do Lee and me vs you and Demetri." He picked up the volleyball.
"What? No way, I'll take Moon." Miguel shook his head.
Hawk laughed. "Whatever, as long as Lee is on my team. I want to see if the view is as good from the back as it was from the front when she plays." He wiggled his eyebrows.
Lee came back with two cones dipped in sprinkle in her hands. Moon had two dipped in chocolate. Demetri had an ice cream sandwich. "We got you guys' cones." Moon and Lee held out the extra cones.
"Thanks." Miguel took it from Moon.
"What do you say to me and you vs Miguel and Moon." He took a cone from Lee.
"I say, Hey! Hey! Hey!" She threw her arms up in the air.
"Oh god," Hawk shook his head at her imitating her new anime crush. She got so obsessed with Kotaro Bokuto that she requested that he dye his mohawk white.
"No," She screamed as the ice cream fell down her arm. "I'm in my emo mode. Compliment me like I'm Bokuto and you're my teammate."
"Go to the bathroom and clean yourself up, idiot." Hawk scoffs.
"I said treat me like I'm Bokuto, not Oikawa." She pouted as she went to wash up.
Hawk, Lee, and Miguel were sitting in a circle as the boys stretched. "So, I did a deep dive on the internet last night and you were right. Sensei is Keene's father." Hawk reached out to touch his toes.
"I just don't understand why he wouldn't tell us." Miguel sighes.
"Because officially he was a dead-beat dad. If not then Robby would be here training under him, not with Miyagi-Do. He must want to make up for it now." Lee, like all of them, knew he was a major asshole before and still is in a lot of ways.
"That's probably it." Hawks nod. "And it also explains why he's giving us shit for kicking Keene's ass in the tournament. Show no mercy, unless it's his son then we gotta be pussies."
The teens were feeling betrayed by someone that they worship. The last time Lee felt this torn was when she learned that Dumbledore was using Harry like a chess piece, helping him get into a powerful position only to sacrifice him in the end. Lee looks at Miguel with sorrow in her eyes because in this scenario he would be Harry.
Lee didn't want her dark thoughts to be true that Johnny made this dojo to train people to be good enough to make it far in the tournament but not good enough to beat his son while making some money. That would make him worse than Dumbledore. Because at least the wizard was doing horrible things to ensure peace for the rest of the world. Sensei would be doing this for solely selfish reasons.
"Have you guys seen the commercial?" Aisha came over to pull them away from their hurt feelings. She went on when they shook their heads. "Sam's dad started his own dojo and dissed Cobra Kai."
She gave the phone to Miguel. Lee and Hawk lean in to watch as he presses play. "Because at Miyagi-Do it's not about the money, it's about Karate. Don't be a snake in the grass. Join Miyagi-Do." Daniel LeRuso's voice filled the dojo.
The dojo erupted with whispers of going to the other dojo since it was free. Aisha yelled that nothing of true value is free. Lee, Miguel, and Hawk sat in silence. They normally would be with her defending the dojo but at the moment they were conflicted.
The room went quiet when Johnny and Kreese walked onto the mats. The students got to their feet to line up. "Moneypenny cameras out, we're going to make an ad. You kid, grab that tree." Lee got her phone out to shoot the video. The teen grabbed the potted plant and stood where Johnny told him to. "There's a lot of talk going around the Valley about free karate. But everyone knows in life you get what you pay for. You wanna kick the competition?" He kicked the bonsai tree. He broke the pot and made dirt and leaves fly everywhere. Mostly on the kid that was forced to hold it. "Then you need to get your ass over to Cobra Kai. Screw that lame meditation bullshit. What you need is good bone-crushing, face-smashing, good old American karate." Lee followed him to the practice dummy. Johnny throws a few punches before elbowing it in the face. "Enough about self-defense. Learn self-offense. Don't be a pussy. Join Cobra Kai and let me teach you the way of the fist." He held his fist up.
"And cut." Lee stopped the video. "One shot, impressive." She gave a half-hearted nod.
"Good, now make sure the Cobra Kai snake comes out in the end. I want it to pop. Make it chrome. And throw Thunderstruck under it." He walks backwards towards the storage room.
"Do you know how much it would cost to use that song?" She wasn't going to do that.
"Don't worry about it. I already own it. I got the cassette in my car." He points out the window. "That car is from 2009 you do not have a cassette player in there." She knew they switched to CD players in cars in the mid-80s.
"No, but I have a walk-man." He said getting confused looks from the teens. "Don't forget to put the hash brown at the end. You know, like hash brown Team Cobra Kai or something then sends it to the internet." He went into the storage room.
"Hash brown." Kresse laughs at his clueless student.
"I'm gonna make this I guess." Lee went into the office.
"We confront Sensei," Miguel told Lee as she drove him home.
"What did he say?" She asks.
"He said that it was none of our business and told us we have clean mats for a week." Hawk looks out the window.
"It's bullshit. How can he say it's none of our business when it's affecting us. When he's making sure that it affects us." Miguel said when he wanted to say to Sensei's face.
"I don't know, I think we should back off. The more we dig into this the more trouble we get into." Hawk said, getting a surprised look from his girlfriend and friend. He never wanted to back off. "At the end of the day, we're Cobra Kai and Keene is not. We're the ones that Sensei put all his energy into. If he was sore about the Keene thing he would kick us out. So, let's not force his hand."
"I guess." Miguel sighs, even though he wanted to know more.
"You're right. We can't expect Sensei to share everything with us. We don't expect that of our other teachers." Lee felt silly for thinking that Johnny would go through all that effort to try and secure his son a victory. Hawk was right, he put all his effort into them. Johnny wasn't a good actor, so he couldn't fake the pride that was on his face whenever one of his students reached a new level.
Lee was with Demetri and Moon in the crowd watching the stage at the Valley Fest. They clapped as a man finished singing and the host came back on stage. "Coming up next, do I have a treat for you? Please direct your attention to the LaRusso Auto Booth for a presentation from Miyagi-Do karate." She pointed to it. The crowd shifted and with luck, the three teens were in the front. Lee texted Miguel that it started. The music that was in the commercial came on. The same one he got called racist for. They started their slow-motion moves. The lights were down making only their silhouettes visual. It was very dramatic but, after a minute it grew boring.
"Is there gonna be any fighting?" Moon whispers.
"I think so?" Demetri stretches out his words.
The drums picked up as Daniel swung a bo staff around. Sam and Robby were defending themselves without attacking. It ends with Robby doing a flip to avoid the attack. The crowd clapped when they bowed. "What do you think?" Moon asks.
"It was entertaining, but doesn't make me want to go there." She shrugs.
"You're being biased." Demetri looks at her like she is crazy.
"No, in real life you have to know how to attack because the attacker isn't going to stop because you avoid him so many times. You're going to have to put him down." Lee was being realistic.
"I guess." He shrugs.
"Now it's time for the grand finale." He said making someone turn back to the stage because they thought it was over.
They rolled out big slabs of ice. The lights cut out. "Cobra Kai." Lee looked back to see Miguel and Hawk leading their dojo to the stage as they chanted the dojo's name. The crowded scream as they moved back to the main stage. The Cobra Kai banner falls to hang from the top of the stage. Back in the Game by Airbourne played. They took over the stage doing kicks and hard gabs. They paired up to do matches. Lee cheered when Hawk swept the legs of his sparring partner. It turns into a battle royale with Miguel being the last one standing.
They brought out boards and Aisha broke them with her kicks. Hawk waves for Demetri to come over. Lee had to push him towards the stage. Hawk drags him up to shove a board in his hands. Demetri closed his eyes as he held the board as far from his body as he could. Using Miguel's hands as a boost, Hawk did a spinning kick to break it. They threw out Cobra Kai merch to the crowd.
"Oh, I got a shirt." Moon cheered.
Johnny comes out to finish it off. He stood in front of a pile of cement blocks. "Cobra lights it up." The lights went out as gasoline was poured on it and lit on fire. Johnny broke it with his fist making the crowd chant his dojo.
Lee threw herself at Hawk when they came down from the stage. "You were great." She gave him a loud kiss on the cheek.
"It felt good to be on stage." Demetri was filled with false pride.
"The next time I send him a spinning kick there won't be a board in the way." Hawk whispers.
"Stop." She slapped his chest.
"It feels even better when you're the one doing the kick." Miguel threw an arm over his shoulders.
"Yeah, I think I'm ready." Demetri nods.
"That's the best thing I heard all night." Hawk slapped his back harder than necessary.
"Let's enjoy the festival. I told Moon we would all ride the rollercoaster together." She guides everyone to the ride.
"Look at the cat, Lee won me at the ring toss." Moon showed Aisha the stuffed animal. She coos at it.
"I got you one too." She hands Hawks a Stuffed Cobra.
"Thanks." He wraps it around his neck.
"Cool, we got to go to that game after." Miguel wanted one of his own. Soon, everyone was agreeing that they needed a snake.
"Looks like you made me the subject of everyone's envy again." Hawk rested his hands on her hips as they waited in line.
