"So what did you think about today's lesson?" Hawk asks.
"I like Kreese not being there. I know you liked him but Sensei is right. He has a caveman way of thinking. His way would have got you guys arrested." She was overjoyed when she walked into the office to see the soldier picture wasn't on the wall.
"I'm going to miss him." He sat across from her at a table in the mall's food court.
"How is your head?" She asked. Johnny taught them how to headbutt and he was practicing all afternoon.
"Good, I got it down." He knocked his knuckles against his forehead.
"Yeah, I saw you headbutt Stingray." She nods.
"That guy, I swear." He tsk at the grown man that seems to be copying him.
"So…Tory, was telling me about an 80s night at the roller rink this Friday." She ate the kung pu chicken from Pandas.
"Ah, I don't want to dress up." He grimaced.
"Why? It'll be fun. I was thinking you could go as John Bender from The Breakfast Club." She thought he would be a cute Bender.
"And who will you be, the princess?" He cocks an eyebrow.
"No, there was a Married….With Children marathon last night and I got inspired by Kelly Bundy. I saw this top online from a store here that looks like the one that she was wearing in an episode. So I figure I'll get it and the rest of the outfit today." It was surprisingly easy to find a top like Kellys. I guess fashion does recycle itself.
"Did you trick me into coming here, so we can shop for this?" He realized he was trapped.
"Guilty." She hummed, drinking her soda.
"Fine." He huffs.
"Miguel will be there if it makes you feel better, although Tory will be working." She told him.
"Oh, a third wheel, great." He put on a fake cheerful tone.
"Stop it." She stole a fry from his plate. He swept her fortune cookie. "Hey, no fair I only have one of those."
He cracked it open to read, "Smile like you mean it…. Here." He threw the paper at her.
"What? It's your fortune, you're eating the cookie. Now, smile for me." She took out her phone and coos at him like he was a toddler.
He put on a big creepy smile. "Okay, stop giving serial killer vibes." She whines, not like the chills it gave her.
"Fine." He relaxes into his regular smile. She clicks a picture to put on Instagram.
"Still can't believe I agreed to this." Hawk sighs as he looks around at all the goofy 80s outfits. He was dressed as John Bender. He had on a white long sleeve shirt, a red flannel over it, fingerless gloves, jeans, and combat boots. He left his hair down tonight to go with the costume. He had a pair of shades on his head.
"Come on, it'll be fun. You weren't half bad the last time we did this." Lee's outfit was Kelly Bundy-inspired. A skin-tight off the shoulders floral top that shows a sliver of her stomach paired with a leather pencil skirt that ends a few inches above the knee and a belt that had heart charms and chains hanging off of it. She teased the hell out of her hair. She went heavy on the black eyeshadow, red lipstick, and pink blush. She had on a couple of black necklaces, the one with the cross being the longest.
"Yeah, you were the one that fell on your ass." He smacked it.
"Hey, we've been having our girl's days here because Tory gets free things, so I have gotten a lot better." She may have wanted to show off her new skills.
"Sup Criminal." Miguel came over in a red leather jacket and shutter shades.
They did their bro hug. "Holy shit, is Cobra Kai on the back of that?" Hawk gasps. Miguel did a spin to show it off. "Where did you get that? I need one."
"From Sensei closet. I found it earlier when I was helping him pick out an outfit for his date." He fixed his collar.
"You got to get Sensei ready for a date and you didn't invite me." Lee was outraged.
"Sensei's apartment isn't suitable for a girl. There's porn and beer everyone." He didn't think Sensei would like having her there.
"Besides, we were at the mall all day picking out these outfits." Hawk reminds her.
"I guess. Let's get our skates." She pulled the boys over to the line.
"Hey, Material Girl." Miguel wolf whistle at Tory who was giving an order to a table near them. She skated over. "Hey, glad you came." She kissed him. "Like the jacket."
"Thanks, I borrow it from Sensei." He nods.
"Nice to see you guys too." She nods to them.
"Oh yeah, prove it where our kiss?" Hawk earn a punch in the arm by Miguel.
"You deserve that." Lee punches his other arm.
"I'll try and see you as much as I can tonight." Tory appreciate him spending the whole night there just to spend time during her breaks together.
"I'll be glad for any time I can get." He smiled. They kissed before she skated away. Hawk gags and pretend to throw up. "Excuse you, I have had to listen to a lot of corny things come out of your mouth to her. And I have caught you guys eating each other faces how many times?"
"What do you expect to find when I tell you we're spending the lunch break in her car?" He smirks. They got to the front of the line and got their skates. They sat down on a bench to put them on. Lee laces up her black skates while telling the guys all the tricks she learned. "You're a liar." Hawk laughed, shaking his head.
"I'm not." She stood up and put her hands on her hips.
"I don't believe you can skate backward, nonetheless moonwalk." He stood up.
"You believe me, right?" She turns to Miguel.
"I mean… I want to." He frown when he saw her pout. "I saw you fall in soccer and you don't even have the ball or anyone trying to block you."
"You'll see." She stomps to the rink.
"We're going to have to take a trip to the ER tonight." Hawk sighes.
"You're going to have to explain that to Sensei," Miguel told him while walking to the rink.
They got onto the rink and look around for her. "Lee, get a skating walker." Hawk yelled out in panic when he saw her attempting to go backward. Sensei made a creative threat about his foot meeting his intestines if Lee ever got hurt while under his supervision.
"I don't need that." The boy's jaws dropped when they saw her moonwalking in front of them.
"Impressive, right?" She sings. "Watch this." She did a move that Tory called salchow. While skating backward, she did a one-leg twist, a quick jump before doing a soft landing on the opposite foot.
The boys' applause. They kept enough distance to allow her to do beginner tricks while being close enough to stop people from running her over if she falls. The boys felt like they were on bodyguard duty more than dates, but they didn't regret coming because of how big her smile was. It was nice to be cheering her on for once instead of it being the other way around.
Miguel, Hawk, and Lee were walking over to Tory. "Hey, what time do you go on break? I wanted to time out so the fries are extra crispy." He looks to see Sam and Robby. "Hey, didn't recognize you… dig the costumes." He nods to both of them.
"Thanks." Sam was less thrilled by the second to be there.
"Tory, this is Sam and Robby." He introduced them.
"Yeah, we met already. Sam and I had a little run-in at the beach club." She informs him.
"So, how do you two know each other?" Sam asks.
"Tory is in Cobra Kai," Miguel told her.
"Figures," Sam muttered under her breath but they all heard her.
"What was that?" Tory wasn't going to let it go.
"Nothing." She shook her head.
Hawk chuckled, thinking she was scared of Tory. "Alright, I got to get back to work. See you later, Babe." She pulled him into a kiss. He kissed her back before she walk away.
Miguel left without saying anything. "Good to see your shoulder is better." Hawk's smug smile said otherwise.
"Good to see your hair not up in that ridiculous fashion." Robby shot back.
Lee grab Hawk's hand when he went to close the distance between them. "Remember Sensei's last lesson. Use your brain before your fist."
"Right," He took a deep breath to calm himself.
"Come on, I'll teach you how to moonwalk." She pulls him towards the rink.
"That guy bugs me." He glares at him from over his shoulder.
"Why?" She knew he lost to him at the mall and got disqualified at the tournament but it wasn't like it was anything personal with Robby.
"Because he doesn't have a problem with moving in on someone in a relationship. That makes him a low dirty bastard." He spat.
"It's like my grandma says, anyone that can be led astray ain't worth keeping. Miguel better off without her." She understood being mad in Miguel's defense but if their friend was over it then they need to follow his lead.
"So what, we should thank him for doing Miguel a service." He rolled his eyes.
"Let's split the hair and say ignore him." She let out a playful scoff. "Watch my feet and copy my movement." She gave him a play-by-play on how to moonwalk.
He was able to perfectly copy her movement. "Oh, first try. If I went pro there would be no chance for anyone else." He continued to skate backward in front of her.
"You won't even do a jump." She laughs.
"I'm not risking my ankles. I need them for kicks." He defends himself.
"Sure," She did spin circles around him before doing a jump.
"Enough, I know you did a lot of practice but you're making me nervous." He felt his heart stop every time she jumped.
"Now, you know how I feel." She wraps her arms around his neck to pull him into a kiss.
Lee was spinning around with Hawk watching closely in case she fell when a loud crash was heard. He did have to grab her hips to steady her when she tried to come to an abrupt stop. She gasped when she saw Sam standing over Tory, who was on her back with food all around her. Miguel helped her up while security kicked Sam and Robby out.
They hurried over there. "Tory, are you okay?" Hawk picked her up by one arm with Miguel grabbing the other. They helped her up and over to a chair.
"Yeah, I just hit my head." She held onto the spot that wasn't hurting as much as she was playing up.
"I'll get an ice pack." Lee rolls to the front of the line at the food court, yelling that it was an emergency to the people grumbling that she was cutting. "Thank you." She smiled at Tory's coworker who ignored the line when she explained the situation.
"No problem, that girl better have gotten kicked out." She slides the ziplock of ice over.
"She did." Lee nods as a thank you before going back to Tory. "Here, you go." She hands it to her.
"I can't believe she did that. I accidentally bumped my shoulder with her but it wasn't even hard. She didn't move." Tory put the ice pack on, hissing when she did.
"Doesn't seem like she is completely over Miguel." Hawk pats his shoulder. Everyone looks at him. He had to say the worst things at that moment.
"Shut up." Lee grabs his arm to pull him away from the couple. "Why would you say that? She was already feeling insecure that Miguel said they knew each other from the dojo."
"Sam asked how they knew each other, not why he was here." He didn't think Miguel should have to explain anything to his ex.
"Doesn't matter. When you're being introduced to the ex, you want to be in a way that makes it clear you are the present. That's why she kissed him like that." She knew Tory had to be hurting from the softness in Miguel's eyes when he looked at Sam.
"I guess Miguel did fuck up, but at least he came to her defense when Sam knock her down, from the back too. Typical of Miyagi-Do, think they're so high and mighty when they do underhand shit. At least in Cobra Kai, we own up to our shit." He grumbles.
"Okay, new rule. No Dojo talk on dates." She grabbed his hand to pull him to the line to return their skates.
"What?" He felt like that was his whole life.
"Yeah, part of the fun of dates is that they're little getaways from reality. For tonight we don't have to worry about rival dojos, grades, or the future." She wanted to enjoy the moment. They got to the front of the line.
"Right, but no talking about anime that I haven't watched. Then it's just you storytelling and me being confused because you leave out important plot points." He helps her take off the skates before taking off his own to give to the worker.
"My favorite moments are more important than plot points." She whines as they got out of the way.
"You are the only person I know who loves filler episodes." He laughs as she went on about how filler episodes show different sides to the characters.
