Xoxo,
Nina
This wasn't how he had pictured his second first kiss with her. He had imagined a different context and a totally different scenario, but all that was eclipsed by what he was feeling. It was that same thrill and excitement that ran through his body that night outside of Molly's against the door of her car. It was the familiarity of her lips responding to his kiss. The warmth of her body as he felt it disarm against his. The velvety touch of her fingertips against the back of his head. All of that made his spine shiver like it hadn't in years.
Eight to be exact.
Ok, so maybe this was not what he had imagined, but it was perfect regardless. He knew it and she had to know it too. There was no way on Earth she could deny it.
He finally broke away when the lack of oxygen forced them to breathe. Both their eyes were still closed, foreheads leaning against each other and the lips slightly touching. They didn't want to break away and Kim was not afraid to show that when she finally moved, wrapping her arms around his back and hiding her face on his chest.
"I'm sorry." He whispered against the shell of her ear.
The apology caught her by surprise, she never expected that reaction from him, so she answered the best way she could. "Yeah. Um, don't worry about it." Her face was in the same position. Partly because she loved the feeling of being there with him, partly because she was ashamed of feeling like that and was desperate to hide that from Adam and partly because she didn't want to be made. She wanted to leave the 'Fair Lady' being able to finish this job.
"The coast is clear. We can go." Adam said naturally.
He took her hand and walked her out of the ship acting as normal as he could as he dragged an almost stiff Kim out of the venue and after experiencing the most incredible feeling.
The ride back was a bit uncomfortable, neither of them said a single word. But the silence in the car was the complete opposite to what was going on inside Kim's head.
Adam's words kept echoing. The fact that he had apologized for kissing her, hurt. Of course he would say that. He is in a relationship, he shouldn't have done that and of course he would regret it. Was that why he wasn't speaking now either? Not even those stupid jokes he makes all the time?
She was ready to push this behind her and just go on as if nothing had happened, knowing full well that it would be nearly impossible. How could she act as if nothing had happened when her whole world was turned upside down? When that kiss shook every single fiber of her body? When his touch awoke all the feelings that had been asleep for eight years?
Kim was massively confused. Torn between speaking up and honoring her feelings or ignoring everything and accepting once and for all that Adam had moved on and found someone else to share his life with. She looked out the window, staring at the cars that drove past her. That's exactly when she remembered what Jay had said to her. Was she using Adam's current relationship to hide behind it?
As the car began to slow down to park in front of her place, she knew it was time to make a decision.
The clicking sound of the seat belt buckle made her turn to face him. She must've had a confused look on her face because he instantly justified his action.
"I'm walking you to the door."
That had her. He was doing it again. Acting as if nothing had happened and it was infuriating.
"Why are you doing this?"
Adam was as confused as she was. He could understand why she hadn't pronounced a single word the whole way here, but he couldn't figure out the reason for her anger. "I don't know. I just don't want to let you leave this car alone." He shrugged genuinely.
"No, not that."
He looked at her with big eyes waiting for her to give him something more.
"Why are you acting like nothing happened?"
"Aren't you doing exactly the same thing?" He shot back and although it was a low shot it was the truth.
Instead of openly answering his question, she asked back, vaguely providing a reason for her actions. "Why did you apologize?" He looked at her as if he was trying to figure out the correct way to say it. "I mean, I can guess why you did. I just really need to hear you saying it, Adam."
"Because, I forced a kiss on you. It wasn't like the context was leading us to it, I kind of took advantage of the situation to do it and I thought the least I could do was apologize for my behavior. And the way you acted after it just confirmed that you weren't all that thrilled about me kissing you."
"Oh." She didn't see that answer coming, but she was grateful that she asked. The only problem was that now there was no way she could stop herself from saying the thoughts running through her mind. "I thought. I thought that maybe you..."
"What?" He cut her short, because he had an idea of what she was thinking about. "You thought I regretted doing it?" Silence was the only answer he got. "Come on, Kim. We're talking, we're opening up. I need to hear you just as much as you do."
She was embarrassed to speak. Embarrassed to admit her feelings, that she never truly forgot him and that she was still in love with someone that was in a relationship with someone else. "Kim." He pleaded.
"Yes. Yes, that's what I thought."
"Listen to me, ok? There are a bunch of things that I regret involving the two of us. But kissing you tonight, that's not one of them. In fact I would do it again right now if I knew you felt the same way I did when we kissed."
There was nothing left to say, or at least she didn't find the use for words right now anyway. There was only one thing she could do. One thing she really wanted to do.
Her hand found the buckle of her seatbelt and as soon as she felt it loosen up, she practically avalanched over him. Her lips crashed his, kissing him intensely.
It took nothing for him to respond to that. His hands cradled her face as her own arms hugged his neck trying to pull herself closer to his body. Their tongues regained contact, after what had felt like an eternity, engaging in a passionate dance and exploring every inch of their mouths.
Her fingers started to tangle his hair, while he kept holding firmly onto her cheeks, afraid of losing her if he ever let go.
Once again the need for air forced them to stop, but they kept giving each other innocent pecks. Now she imitated his position, cupping his cheeks and softly scratching his beard, as her lips kept touching his.
"No, wait." She said, finally realizing what they were doing.
"Ok." He nodded in agreement but he didn't care. He kept holding and kissing her and she kept responding.
"No, seriously. We can't."
"I know, I know." He sighed. "But it feels so good, though." He came crashing at her again. Their tongues were in a pure explosion of pleasure and their hands, shily began to move away from where they were and slowly slid down, exploring other areas of their bodies. Adam was holding her by the waist pulling her to him while her hands were running up and down his back.
They were totally lost in the moment, enjoying every single second and it wasn't until their breathing started to pick up speed that Kim placed her hands on his chest ans softly pushed him away.
"It does. But it's not right." He looked down and she slowly moved away from him. "I'm gonna get going and please don't walk me to the door."
"I will."
"No. I'm not sure I can push you away again."
"I promise I'll keep my hands to myself, but I really want to do it."
"Fine."
"Ok." He smiled softly and got out of the car to get the door for her. He grabbed her hand entwining their fingers together, not surprised at all that she allowed it. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Yes." She started to look for her keys, taking longer than it should, but her shaking body wasn't helping.
"Need help?"
"No. I've got this." She finally found them, taking them in her hand and showing the keychain to Adam. "Good night." She took one step forward and wrapped her arms around him, hugging him for a few seconds before breaking the embrace.
"Good night."
The hell with good decisions.
He held her cheeks, kissing her lips for the last time tonight.
It took all his will power to move away, and seeing the look of delight on her face while her eyes were still closed as the taste of his lips still lingered on hers, made him wish he would never stop.
"For the record, I don't regret absolutely anything that happened tonight."
He turned around and went to the car, waiting for an answer from her would be way too dangerous. He wanted to take things further with Kim, God help him he did, but there were some things that he needed to solve before doing that.
His apartment was dark. The reflection from the outside lights were shining on his living room since he had left the curtains wide open before leaving, allowing to keep the lights shut as he unbuttoned his shirt.
The smile on his face was permanent. Only in his wildest dreams existed the possibility of seeing Kim again, let alone kissing her the way they did tonight or feeling what they felt. Because he was convinced that she had felt it too, there was no use in denying it now. Their bodies spoke louder than their words did and he was thankful for that.
He jumped right into the shower because he needed the cold water to ease his desire, but his master plan ended up being a fraud because all he could think about was Kim Burgess and their hot kissing in the car.
He put on his boxers and went straight to uncap a beer before laying in bed and having one of the best night sleeps in a long time.
As he was heading straight to his bedroom with the bottle clasped in his left hand, he was interrupted by the knocking sound on his door. Could it possibly be her?
He practically ran to open the door, the eagerness vanishing the patience to look through the peephole before opening.
"Well this is a welcome that I love to get!" The blonde said cheerfully before kissing her boyfriend's lips.
"Hey, Tor. What are you doing here?" He tried his best to hide the disappointment in his voice. Who was he kidding? Of course it wasn't going to be Kim. She didn't even know where he lived.
"One of your neighbors was coming in and he held the door open for me. Aren't you happy to see me?" She pouted, sliding her index finger up and down his chest.
"It's not that, I just wasn't expecting you. Plus it's a bit late and I'm exhausted." He knew he needed to talk to her, but he wasn't sure if this was the correct moment to do so.
"You're always exhausted, sweetie. I'm a bit worried. Maybe you should get yourself checked." She suggested innocently, earning a shy smile from Adam.
"I'm not sick, Tori. I just have some things I need to solve." He shrugged.
"You mean like that case you're working on?"
"Yeah. That's one of them."
Tori scrunched up her nose and looked at him a bit defeated. "I'm afraid I can't help you with that, but I can help you relax and take your mind off things." Adam looked at her expectantly, waiting to hear the idea she was obviously so excited about. "Go out with me!"
"Seriously? Tor I just got back from an undercover job. I just wanna go to bed."
"Oh true, how was it?"
"It was ok. Productive."
It was productive alright. In more ways that she could ever imagine.
"The point is, I much rather stay home."
"Come on! We haven't gone out in ages and the guys are waiting for us."
"What guys?"
"Scotty, Laura, Sandra, Matt." She counted with her fingers. "They insisted I invite you to come."
"Tory, your friends hate me."
"They don't."
Adam looked at her, letting her know with his expression that he knew that was a lie. "The only reason they want me there is to take advantage of my badge. And just to be clear, I can't get Scotty or anyone else off the hook again when they get into fights in a bar because they are drunk. I can get in serious trouble for that." Vitoria rolled her eyes. "Tell them that and I bet they would tell you not to invite me."
"Ok, you might have a pint there, but they don't hate you, they just think that you're a bit too boring sometimes. And lately you're kind of proving them right."
Adam sighed and sat on the couch, the young blonde was quick to follow, sitting next to him and placing her hand on his thigh.
"Maybe they are right."
"No, bea, you are fun."
"That's not what I mean Tor."
"I don't follow then."
"It's not a matter of whether I'm fun or not, it's a matter of the both of us being at different stages of life, wanting to do different things. You should be living your best life with someone that Can and wants to keep up with it."
"What are you saying?"
"I think we shouldn't be doing this."
"Doing what?"
"Us."
"No. No, Adam you don't mean that. You're just tired that's all. You know what? I don't even want to go out, I just wanna stay with you."
"No, Tori. It's ok for you to want to go out and have fun, to party, get drunk. The thing is I had my fair share of all that and it's perfect to need different things."
"No. What we need is to spend some time. The problem is that we haven't done it in so long that you forgot what it's like and that's why you want a break from us."
"No, Tor. I'm serious."
She ignored his words completely and took the bottle away from him, placing it on the coffee table before she straddled him and went to attack his lips.
"Tori, no. Don't do this." He managed to move his face out of the way, hoping it would put a stop to her behavior, by the only thing it was to change her target.
She was now kissing his neck, while her hands were running wild through his chest. She knew for a fact that the second she bit his earlobe he was going to lose it, forget this nonsense about them not being in the same place and she would be right back in the game.
Victoria was a determined woman, and it was only a matter of seconds before she was kissing his ear and pulling on the lobe with her teeth.
That was the exact moment that Adam made the worst decision he could ever make.
