Chapter 11: The Struggles of a Strong Bond

I woke up to see darkness. My eyes then came into focus and a white ceiling is what I could make out and I looked over to my left only to face a wall that was the same color. I looked to the right of me and saw a make shift bed a few feet besides mine and saw a blue figure laying there. Greninja. He looked normal and resting peacefully, but I can sense exhaustion. Our form. That's what caused it. I then tried to sit up and I immediately went right back down as I then felt tired. Why? Why does synchronizing make me and Greninja feel tired? The reasons are there I just don't know them. Straight ahead of us was the door leading out to a hallway and next to the door was a night stand that had my stuff on it. There was also a window that allowed a little light to enter the room from the hallway. I take it that I am in a Poké Center. I then slowly got up and I felt the exhaustion take over. It took me a couple of minutes, but I was able to bear it a little. This exhaustion is substantially worse than the other time when me and Greninja fainted. I then scoot towards Greninja's bed a bit and nudge him lightly. He then shook a little bit then started to slowly wake up. On his side, he started looking around and in a few seconds he understood where we are. I could tell by his face and aura. He then turned and looked at me.

"You all right?" He asked.

"Yeah. Very exhausted that's all. What about you?" I asked him back.

"Same. What happened?" He asked a little perplexed.

"I think we both fainted again from using the form." I said. He looked at the ground worriedly.

"This really is a problem. Our bond is what causes us to do this sort of Mega Evolution thing, but at the same time being too deep in our bond causes us to faint. That is such a conundrum." He says with no expression. I'm surprised by such words he used to describe this ordeal. But he does have a point. This problem is hard to deal with and we don't know how to fix it. Maybe with time and practice I can see us being used to it I guess. We'll just have to wait and see. Hmm I wonder how the others are doing right now. I want to get up and go see them and let them know I am ok, but right now I am too tired physically and emotionally. I can barely even sit up. I can sense the same thing in Greninja.

"We'll be able to figure this out. But we achieved our final stage of the form I think. Do you remember what happened?" I asked him. He takes some time to reflect and then he shook his head in disappointment.

"Hmm my memory seems to fail me. The last thing I can remember was me letting out a big yell and that's it." He said as he is still thinking, but judging by his facial expression he is drawing a blank.

"Well if I remember correctly you let out that big yell along with me and the water veil that was surrounding you rose and rushed quicker and then exploded into a shower of water raining down on everyone getting them wet and then went into what looked like a pair of wings then went into a sphere on your back and then it turned into a massive Water Shuriken." I said. He looked shocked yet excited as to what I described to him.

"That sounds awesome! Can't wait to see myself when we fully get this form." He says. I nod in agreement.

"With our bond we can accomplish anything." I say.

"Yeah!" He says as we handshake. Just then I hear the door open and I see Serena entering the room. The lights turn on. She looks at me happily.

"Glad your awake!" She says happy as she came over to me and gave me a hug.

"Glad to see you." I say returning the hug. I had to summon all of my strength to not collapse from exhaustion. She then got up and went to the door and peeked her head out to the hall looking to the right.

"He's awake come on in." She says. Then Bonnie, Clemont, Nurse Joy and my mom walks in. Wait what? My mom? What is she doing here? I shook my head to make sure I wasn't seeing things, but I wasn't. She was really here.

"Uhh mom w-what are you doing here?" I ask hesitantly.

"I came here to check on my baby boy. Serena, Clemont and Bonnie told me about your adventures and your new found power." She says as she points at Greninja. I put my hand behind my head in embarrassment.

"Oh yeah me and Greninja have been training a lot to master this new power that we unlocked recently." I say trying to not get my mom into serious mode. When her eyebrows straighten a bit and her dark amber eyes glimmer, along with her stern expression, she is in serious mode. She was not in it now, but I could sense it coming.

"How am I Nurse Joy?" I ask her trying to change the subject. She looked at a sheet on her clipboard. She looked a tad bit worried, but it quickly faded.

"It seems that the last time you had this sort of exhaustion incident was back in Couriway Town and my twin cousin there kept track of your exhaustion in a log. On a scale from 1 to 10 she put you at a 5." She said.

"What about now?" I ask a little worried knowing what the answer might be. A 7 or 8.

"An 8.5. Your Greninja has it easier at 7.5. And this is all due to a transformation between you two?" Nurse Joy asks. I nod.

"When the transformation happens we sync up and if we push the form too far we'll faint from what I guess is called bond exhaustion." I say.

"Hmm. Well I really can't say much for advice except to just rest and maybe refrain from the form until you can learn more about it." I take time to reflect on it. I could ask Professor Sycamore or Gurkinn about this whole form that we have.

"Yeah I guess your right, but who else would know about this whole ordeal? If this is something that has never happened before or a very long time ago at that, who would know?" I ask.

"Actually Ash does have a point there. If this is something that has not happened before then information on this would be minimal." Clemont says.

"You are right. But to make sure you aren't exhausted any further I think you should stay away from using the form." I kind of didn't want to do that since we have been getting better at it every time we use it. Of course I have to wait until I am not tired anymore and Greninja isn't tired any more. It would be some time though like a few hours at best. I looked at my mom and she had the look that I needed to see last. Her serious mode look. Great. Time for a lecture.

"Ash Ketchum you are not to use that form anymore until further notice. You are putting yourself and possibly other people at risk by using this transformation that you two have. So you must stop before you seriously injure yourself. Doing things irresponsibly can and will have consequences, and making your family and friends worry about you is just one of them. I know how you are Ashy, always curious, but curiosity killed the Meowth they say, and this is the one time I'm going to have to intervene because I don't want to see my baby boy hurt." She says with a stern look. But I could read through her not only because of my aura, but because she is my mother. She was worried and nervous. But mom has to know I am grown up to the point where I know what I want to do and make my own decisions.

"It's ok mom I am fine. We will get this all figured out. It'll be some time, but soon we will master it. I just need to train with Greninja more and we will be able to get the form down. I will do what it takes. And I am old enough to know when to stop, and old enough to make my own decisions." I say solidly, but gently letting my mom know that I'm standing my ground on this one. She actually looked shocked to what I said. I guess she expected me to just say okay and call it a day.

"Hmm. Well I really don't think you should do it. But I know you're very strong and will overcome any obstacle in your way. Mmmm... Ok my sweet Ashy. Just try not to get yourself seriously hurt ok? Maybe have supervision when you guys do decide to do it or?" She asks with a full on worried look on her face.

"I will try my hardest. And I don't know maybe. I feel like every time I do it someone is always watching." I say reassuringly. She nervously smiles and then comes to give me a hug. She then kisses me on the cheek.

"I love you son." She says still hugging me.

"Love you too mom." I say back. She then lets go.

"Now I will actually be staying here for a while. Kalos is a very nice region. I'll be here to watch you in the League too." She says with a smile. I light up at that.

"Awesome!" I say. I then stand up on the floor and I buckle a bit, but I keep my composure.

"You alright Ash?" Clemont asks from the doorway.

"Yeah. I'm still a little wiped, but otherwise I'm fine." I say. I then slowly walk over to Greninja who was sitting up, his legs touching the floor and help him stand up. Everyone just watched me.

"You doing alright?" I ask him.

"Yeah I'm just tired that's all." He says.

"That's good to hear. You feel any pain at all?" I ask him.

"No just tired that's all." He said as he yawns.

"Ok you wanna go back to sleep?" I ask him.

"Yeah for a little bit." He said.

"Alright I will do the same." I say back. He then lies back down on his bed and turns to his side and closes his eyes.

"You can understand him?" My mom asks dumbfounded.

"Yeah it's due to my aura." I say.

"He's what they call a "Super Guardian"." Bonnie notes.

"A Super Guardian? What's that?" She asks with a confused look on her face.

"You guys fill her in I want to get some more rest." I say tiredly.

"Ok sweetie we'll see you later." Mom said. Then a question popped into my head. Where is this Poké Center at?

"Alright and Serena. I forgot to ask this earlier, but where is this Poké Center located?" I ask.

"Snowbelle City. Diantha had the helicopter pick us up and take us here. She is in the lobby right now. She says she is going to watch your gym battle." Serena says. That surprised me a bit. I had a lot to talk about, but I needed rest.

"Alright we'll talk later. I'm gonna get some rest." I say.

"Alright see you." Everyone said. And they walked out explaining to my mom what a Super Guardian is.

Serena's POV

I headed out the door with Delia, Clemont, Bonnie and Nurse Joy. Delia and Nurse Joy were listening intently to Clemont as he explains what a Super Guardian is. Me I was just thinking about this whole ordeal with Ash. His aura and the form with Greninja. I'm worried sick about him. And I can tell Delia is the same also. I looked up as we walked to the lobby of the Center. There I saw Diantha sitting in a waiting seat her legs crossed and she is just staring off into space. She then looked over to me and saw us and she stood up with a fist over her heart.

"Is he ok?" Diantha asked concerned.

"He is doing just fine. He is just very tired. Same with Greninja. It was thanks to you we got him to the Center." I say with a grateful smile. She lets out a sigh of relief and smiles thankfully.

"Thank Arceus. I'm so glad I could help." She says happily.

"Say. How are you guys?" Diantha asks me.

"Huh? What do you mean?" I ask confused.

"I mean how are you and Ash?" She asks me with an interested look on her face. I just think nothing of it.

"Oh we're doing great. We just recently started dating. Why do you ask I wonder?" I ask her trying to see what her motive is.

"Oh I just noticed things were different between you two and I was just wondering if you were dating or not." She said teasingly.

"Oh I see haha. Yeah we are dating," I said a little embarrassed while blushing.

"Say I don't mean to bother, but why do you want to see Ash's eighth gym battle?" I then ask her curiously.

"Oh it was a request from Olympia. She wants me to record him with Greninja and show her first hand. And honestly personally I would like to see his full potential. If he wins the Kalos League I would have to prepare for him." She says the second part quieter for only me to hear.

"Oh I see. Well I assure you Ash will win this league because he is one of the strongest trainers I have ever met and seen." I say a little smugly. Diantha just smiled.

"Let's see him do it." She says and I nod smiling. Delia came over to us and smiled.

"Hey Ms. Diantha do you know how I could contact the professor?" She asks curiously. I think she was trying to see if she could gather any info on the form that Ash and Greninja have.

"Yes indeed. I'll show you to a phone booth and give you the code to talk to him." She says. She then turns to me.

"I'll help her out. If anything changes just let me know." Diantha says. I nod.

"Ok." I say and she heads off with a phone booth with Delia.

"How you doing?" I hear Clemont ask beside me.

"Oh I'm fine. I'm still a little bit worried, but I know Ash and Greninja will be just fine. I can tell his Pokémon feel the same way." I say.

"Yeah. He'll be back to normal soon. But I did get very interesting data from my device taken from their battle earlier today." Clemont said. I then became very intrigued.

"Oooooooh. I would love to hear about it." I say as I then take a seat in one of the waiting chairs. He sits in front of me with a foldable chair.

"Well just as I predicted their brainwaves synchronized as they transformed," He says.

"Over time the waves got more rapid and smaller and the highest of activity was when the massive Water Shuriken formed on Greninja's back." Clemont then said.

"What about the moments leading up to the transformation? Do they automatically just go from not synchronized to synchronized or does it phase in?" I ask.

"Glad you asked. It phased in. You see when they were about to get to that moment of getting ready to synchronize their waves went from their own pulses to becoming the same wavelength." Clemont said as he shows me the wavelengths during that time. It amazes me how this whole phenomenon is actually like a fusion between the two. I have never seen or heard anything like his before. Ashy is really something special.

"Wow. This is amazing. I wonder if Professor Sycamore or Korrina's grandfather knows something about this whole thing." I say curiously.

"Yeah. Maybe. We should be able to get some answers soon." Clemont says as he shuts down his tablet.

"Well let's go check on Diantha and Delia." I say as he nods and we walk over to them to go sit down with them. I hope Ashy is doing alright. I know he is. We'll be out of here soon and we'll get to see him get his eighth gym badge.
