After the initial shock from Allies birthday blew over the family got on with their lives. They small family had bonded even more than before. Allie still had days filled with doubt but Kim and Adam worked hard to show her how much she was loved. And Eric had spent more time in Chicago with his daughter trying to make sure she knew that he loved her. The adults had all agreed that if continued much longer they were going to look into therapy. They didn't want this to continue any longer than it had already and she was still young enough where they could fix it before it inflicted life long damage.
Work had also been crazy lately. The last month had been full on with very little down time. So the couple decided to take a small weekend getaway. The weather was cooler now so they decided to head south to Virginia Beach. It was a quick flight, the air was warm and there was a lot to do with the kids. They hadn't told the kids yet as they wanted to surprise them with the trip. "Hey kids can we talk to you about something important?" Kim asked as she and Adam joined the kids in the living room. "Is something wrong mommy?" Allie asked full of worry. "Oh no baby girl! Daddy Adam and I thought it might be nice for us to all go away this weekend. What do you guys think?" Kim asked knowing Allie would be on board. "Yes pease!" Riley yelled jumping up and down. "Yes mommy! That sounds fun!" Allie yelled running to them both for a hug.
"Okay so we plan on heading to Virginia Beach. We haven't been there before and there is a lot to do. The hotel even has an indoor pool in case it's raining or cool outside. They have an aquarium and horseback riding on the beach. It's the perfect quick getaway." Adam explained to the kids. The kids were so excited and they couldn't wait to leave. "So let's bag our bags and get going to the airport. Come on kids!" Kim led them upstairs to start packing their things. They didn't need much just three days worth of outfits and they would be set to go. As soon as they were done packing they headed straight to the airport. It would be late when they arrived but it was perfect since the kids would already be asleep when they got to the hotel.
The kids would be surprised when they opened the curtains in the morning. They had an ocean front room ready to go for when they arrived. When they arrived at the airport the kids got even more excited. Riley loved plane rides and Allie was just excited for a trip. They made their way through the airport to the gate and waited for their flight. The kids watched as the flights took off and it got them more excited. Thankfully Kim brought things to the kids calm and quiet on the actual flight so they didn't disrupt anyone till they fell asleep. "How about you guys come sit down and have a snack Okay?" Adam offered hoping they could calm some and not annoy the other people waiting. The kids slowly came over for their snacks and ate quietly. They knew the rule, no jumping around while eating.
The kids started to crash out as soon as they got on the plane as it was almost their bed time. Kim gave them both some ear plugs to block the noise and wrapped them in blankets as they crashed. Kim and Adam just sat back and relaxed as the plane took off. They each watched a movie during the short plane ride to Norfolk. When the plane landed they decided to not wake the kids and put Riley in the stroller and Adam carried Allie. Kim placed the duffle bags under the stroller and Riley's diaper bag on her back as they headed for the car rental spot. Kim had reserved a car before they left so it was a quick process before they headed to the car. Tucking both kids into the car seats and heading to the hotel. Thankfully it wasn't a long a long ride before they were in the hotel and tucking the kids into bed. "I think this was the perfect idea. The kids are going to love the view when they wake up." Adam stated as they looked outside. Kim nodded and got ready for bed.
As they settled down for the night it hit them both that the kids were in the next bed. "I guess no playing games while we are here?" Kim smirked sadly. "I guess not but when we get home and have our own room again, it's on!" Adam laughed quietly not wanting to wake the kids. "Agreed. Maybe we can get a date night? Let the kids sleepover with their grandparents?" Kim shrugged. "I think that's a great idea. We need a date night. It's been too long." Adam leaned in to kiss her sweetly. The couple cuddled up together and fell asleep together shortly after excited for the next few days of relaxation.
The next morning both kids were over excited and woke up super early. They jumped on the bed to wake their parents who were still out cold from the night before. "Good morning babies!" Kim spoke as she took in the pained expression in Adams face. One of the kids must have landed hard on him and he was definitely uncomfortable but trying hard no to show it too much. "Mommy, Daddy get up! The sun is shining!" Allie yelled excitedly. "Baby I know that but can you please take it down a notch or two. No need to be so loud." Kim pulled Allie into her arms to snuggle her while Adam hugged Riley. Neither kid lasted long before they were up and moving again. "Well since we are awake I guess we should get moving. Where to first?" Adam asked. "Well Allies favorite shop it just down the street so maybe there first?" Kim suggested. "I love that idea. The kids will be so excited." Adam smiled knowing the kids would both love that idea.
"Come kids let's get dressed!" Kim stated loudly as they ran to the bathroom to start getting ready. If only everyday was this easy to get the kids moving Kim thought as she watched them getting ready. Riley of course needed help but Allie was all miss independent when it came to getting dressed. She had her own style and didn't want anyone's opinion, it was adorable. Once the kids were dressed the adults got ready and the family was off. Riley was placed in a stroller and Allie held Adams hands as they left the hotel walking on the boardwalk towards the donut place. They had kept that part quiet as the wanted to surprise the kids. As they got closer they saw a small park on the beach that they knew the kids would love and decided they would stop there on the way back to the hotel. It was next to a giant statue of Neptune the god of water.
As they walked they tried to explain to the kids who and what the god of water was. Neither was paying attention as they head the planes flying above. Virginia Beach was a very large military town so seeing planes, helicopters and even military boats go by was a common occurrence. They even wanted photos to send to Uncle Jay. As much as Jay was proud he served he didn't want to talk about it. Kim knew he wouldn't love the photos but would thank you for the kids sake. It was hard to explain to the kids especially since they didn't want to scare them. Once they arrived at their intended destination the kids realized what it was and started to cheer. They were stoked to have their favorite donuts again. Hot and fresh and made just how they wanted.
After they placed their order the kids stood and watched the donuts being made. Allie even politely explained how she normally goes to the original location and telling the workers they must go visit it. Kim and Adam just laughed. She was quite the talker and had quite the personality. Riley was more shy and reserved around strangers so he just watched and waited. When the donuts were finished they all headed to the beach to sit and eat their breakfast before playing in the park. Kim was watching taking lots of photos and videos for the family to see and texted some to Eric. While he was normally in Virginia Beach working once a month this was not his week there and he hadn't been able to make it work so he promised to fly into Chicago midweek to see his daughter.
The kids lasted around two hours on the playground before crashing hard. The kids were taken back to the hotel to take a well needed nap. Once the kids were out cold Kim and Adam sat on the balcony of their room staring out at the ocean. It was truly peaceful and relaxing. "I'm glad we did this. We all needed this." Adam sighed as he looked over at Kim smiling. "Yeah this is just what we needed. I'm really happy we came here. It might not be NC but it works for a short weekend." Kim smiled back. They held hands as they watched the water. Even watching the dolphins swimming by. "Since we are in a peaceful place. We need to talk about a big decision we have coming up." Kim looked over seeing Adam look back worried. "In December we need to decide if I'm going to get another implant or if I'm going to the pill instead. The implant is for 5 years so I would be 32, Allie would be 11 and Riley would be 7. Is that too late for another one? Do you even want another one?" Kim exhaled after rambling.
"Kim of course I want a child with you. It's been my dream always. And no I don't want to wait 5 more years. Maybe another year or two but not 5. Not that you would be too old but I don't want to wait that long. So my opinion is get the implant out, go on the pill and see where life takes us. What do you want?" Adam asked her seeing tears in her eyes. "I was thinking the same thing. I want to see you as a father to a new born. I want to be able to see you hold the baby for the first time. I want to see the excitement in your eyes when we find out we are pregnant. See your face when you feel it kick for the first time. I want it all with you." Kim smiled with tears streaming down her face. "Love it! Forever together sounds amazing darling! So December we take the implant out and start a new journey. I can't wait!" Adam kissed her cheek smiling widely.
The couple went back to relaxing till the kids woke again. They took the kids to lunch before spending the day playing on the beach and in the water. The kids were having a blast playing in the sand and while the water was a bit cooler than they would have liked they enjoyed swimming in the ocean. The waves were smaller and the water much calmer so it was easier for the kids to enjoy the water. Adam and Kim enjoyed the sound of the kids laughing. Kim videoed that so they could play it when they had bad days at work. Kim was surprised when it started to get dark out not realizing they spent the whole day on the beach. The only time they had returned to the hotel during the day was to use the bathroom and to grab snacks. It had been an amazing day. And Kim felt lighter as they made a huge decision about the future and the kids were happy. It really couldn't get much better. As they brought the kids back to their room they discussed where to have dinner. Kim really wanted seafood and the kids were on board with that idea. Adam would eat anywhere so that was never an issue.
The kids were showered to remove all the sand and then the adults showered before heading out for some dinner. The place was about 2 miles away so they decided to drive, it was quicker and the kids were getting super hungry. As they arrived they valeted the car and headed inside hoping for a table over looking the water. Inside they were surprised how busy it was but they got seated right away. When the waitress took the drink order they also ordered the kids food right away. The kids would need food faster than the adults to keep them happy and calm. No one wants their night ruined by some kids temper tantrum. Adam was shocked how fast the kids food came out but the waitress admitted that she was a mom and knew it was a limited amount of time before the kids would meltdown. Kim was thrilled.
The adults relaxed knowing the kids were fed and happy as they waited for their own meals. They shared conversations with the kids about things they would like to do the next day. Allie wanted to horseback ride but Riley was old enough so they decided Kim would take Allie while Adam found something for Riley to do. And then they would take both kids to the aquarium for the afternoon. It was a good plan and both kids were happy with the plan. After they ate dinner they took the kids to get some ice cream and then back to the hotel to play in the pool before bed time. The kids loved swimming and it tired them out so they slept well that night. Both Kim and Adam retreated to the balcony again to enjoy the warm October air.
"How do you feel about marriage? I know we both come from divorced parents, does that scare you?" Kim asked knowing that hadn't discussed it before. "Um yeah it scares the hell out of me. I'm always afraid of becoming my father or my mother. But it doesn't scare me enough to not want that for us. I would have never thought about it before. But since finding you again I'm definitely on board for it. I want as much as you are willing to give me. Marriage, kids, the house, everything. What about you?" Adam asked feeling vulnerable after admitting his full feeling. "Same! Completely! I know why my parents got divorced. My mother was/is controlling. My father never had a say. He blamed her for my rape since she pushed me to stay in those classes when I want out. And since she didn't listen when I said he was stalking me. I never want to be like either of them which is why I ask questions and probe into how you are feeling about things. I want us to talk and figure things out before it becomes an issue." Kim looked over seeing nothing but love in his eyes.
"If we were alone I would show you how much you mean to me. For being open and honest about how you feel. I know that has been an issue in the past so I'm happy we have worked past that. It gives me hope that we are going to make it forever. We heel each other and make the other stronger. This is the life we both deserve it." Adam leaned in to kiss her softly. "As much as I would love that we can't. Once we are home, date night and we are getting after it!" Kim smiled as kissed more passionately. "Shower? We just need to be quiet. We have made several life altering decisions today and I want to celebrate that love with you." Adam picked her up and started to head towards the bathroom. "I can be quiet but can you?" Kim smirked as they moved. Giggling as they moved towards the bathroom.
Once the door was shut Adam placed Kim down and started the shower. Kim started to undress herself before she started to undress Adam. The couple started making out passionately as they stepped into the shower tangled in each other's arms. Adam lifted her by the back of her thighs as he moved her up against the tile wall of the shower. He kissed her harder as he thrusted inside her swallowing her groans. Adam thrusted hard in to Kim as she wrapped her legs tighter. They both tried to stay quiet but it was getting to be too much. Kim bit into Adams shoulder to muffle the moans as Adam thrusted harder. Trying to keep his moans quiet he needed to finish soon. He pulled Kim's face towards his again kissing her hard swallowing both their moans as they came together.
It was rushed and hard but it was just what they needed. As soon as their bodies relaxed Adam slid out if her body and helped her down on to her own feet. They washed each other briefly before getting out to dry off before sliding into the bed wrapped in each other's arms. "We can't do that again. It was amazing but we could have gotten caught. It's easier when we can lock the doors." Kim laughed as they snuggled closer. "I know but that's what makes it more exciting. How about we get some sleep?" Adam kissed her forever. "Sounds good. I love you future husband. Love of my life!" Kim whispered as she kissed him. "Love you too future wife. Love of my life!" Adam kissed her back. They both fell asleep with big smiles on their faces. It was a great day.
The next morning Kim and Adam took the kids to breakfast before Adam took Riley to the park and Kim took Allie horseback riding. Riley loved being at the park again and they also flew a kite together. They had a fun time together, they needed to do this more often just the two of them. Allie absolutely loved horse back riding and wanted to do it more often. Kim enjoyed it as well though it wasn't as much excitement as she would have liked. But Allies enjoyment made it all worth it. Kim made sure to get lots of pictures to show Adam and Eric. They would love to see her this happy. After the ride was over they walked back to the hotel to see Adam and Riley playing in the sand in front of the hotel. Allie wanted to join them so they headed to the beach to join them. "Hey did you guys have a good time?" Kim asked as she sat down next to Adam. "Yeah it was a good day. We played and they flew a kite before playing again. How about you guys?" Adam asked watching Allie run to Riley to play. "We had fun. Allie loved it and wants to go again. For me it was fun but it wasn't crazy exciting. But I'm happy she enjoyed it so much." Kim leaned against Adam staring at the ocean.
"How about I go grab some lunch for us all and then we can head to the aquarium?" Adam suggested. "Sounds great! I'm sure the kids are going to be hungry soon." Kim laughed knowing the hangry kids would show up soon. Adam got up to leave and get some food while Kim played with the kids. It was fun that was for sure but Kim was starting to get hungry and hoped Adam would be quick. When he returned the kids cheered cause they were hungry. Adam set up the food for the kids first and then for Kim. He could see in her eyes she was hungry. He laughed as she grabbed her food and moaned happily as she took her first bite. "It's not even fancy darling! Damn are you just that hungry?" Adam laughed at her. "Yup! I didn't realize it till you showed up with the food." Kim laughed knowing she probably looked crazy in the moment.
The family finished eating and headed back to take naps before heading out again. It was only a 7 minute ride so it wasn't long enough to let them nap in the car so they stayed in the room for the nap. Kim and Adam went to the balcony to talk during nap time. "How would you feel about house hunting when we get back?" Adam asked not sure if that was an option for her. "Um yeah we could do that. To be fair I love not having a house payment but we do need more bedrooms especially if we plan on having more kids. I want at least two more bedrooms since we need a guest room and eventually a babies room. Another bathroom would be great too. Two car garage, fireplace. I could go on." Kim smiled thinking about the life they were forming. "Sounds like a good plan. But you said kids. Are you looking for two more or even more than that?" Adam asked not sure where her mind was. "Well we have kids already so just adding to that. If it's only one great, if it's two great. I don't know. I wish I could give you a better answer but it's the best I have." Kim shrugged. "Hey I understand. I just wanted to see where your mind was at. I don't have to carry them. So it's more about what your body can handle. But we can figure that out after a few years. We don't have to decide now." Adam agreed as they talked.
After nap time was over the kids were taken to the aquarium. The first thing they saw was the harbor seal which were outside the building. The kids laughed loudly when the seal started to bark because it sounded like it was barfing. Once they got inside they started to follow the pathway through the different exhibits. Both kids were excited when they got to the dragon exhibit because you could crawl under into a dome that was inside the exhibit. They were still shielded and safe but they could see the dragon closer. After that they were able able to play in an area that allowed them to be little scientists. The kids had so much fun testing everything and touching everything. They literally were having a blast. The next area was a tunnel that was surrounded by aquariums. Literally sharks and sting rays swimming over them as they walked through.
They walked through the snake area quickly as the girls had no interest in that. The alligator was a big hit with both kids and Adam. Next up was the sea turtle area which was pretty cool. It was a very large tank that they could sit in front and just enjoy the show. After seeing the sea turtle hatchlings they moved to the shark area. Again they sat and watched the sharks swimming around. Riley was totally amazed and wanted to stay pressed up against the glass. Lastly was the sting ray exhibit where you could touch them. Allie was scared but willing to try and Riley just wanted to jump in the tank to play with them. After getting a firm grip on both kids they were allowed to feel the back on the sting rays which felt like sandpaper. The kids were loving it. After they finished the inside they headed out to the nature trail. Kim wanted to walk in the woods and along the water looking for waterfowl. Overall it had been a successful visit.
The kids were exhausted so the family decided on a quiet dinner in their hotel room. Both kids cranky and in need of sleep. But not early or it would a long day tomorrow. Kim found a Disney movie on the tv both kids would enjoy and settled them into the bed with their parents on either side. It definitely helped calm them as they zone out watching the movie. Around an hour later both kids were sound asleep snoring softy. Adam turned off the movie while Kim got the kids settled into bed for the night. Adam was already waiting on the balcony for Kim when she arrive outside. "You know I think this is our thing. When we go to the beach we sit outside and talk while the kids sleep. Even at home we relax outside after they sleep." Kim mused as she took a seat. "You know I think you are right. Maybe our next house has a three season room with a heater. We can sit out there while the snow falls around us but be warm." Adam mused as he looked over at Kim seeing the excitement in her eyes. "Definitely!" Kim smiled knowing another decision was made on a balcony.
The couple eventually headed to bed knowing tomorrow was their last day of their mini vacation. The next day the kids were excited for the day ahead. Kim had decided to spent the whole day at the beach. No one was upset about that. The kids loved the beach as much as their parents did so it was definitely the best way to spend the day. It was late afternoon before they headed back to the room covered in sand and tired. Kim showered off the kids while Adam packed the bags. Late checkout was an awesome perk of this trip for sure. The adults showered together next while the kids watched tv. Shortly after they headed to the airport to head back to the cool weather of Chicago. Excited to get home and start the next adventure of their lives , house hunting. It would be frustrating and they would fight but they knew they could weather anything together.
