"Iron Man's vault is their target!" Spider-Man exclaimed upon hearing the news of what the real target was going to be from Stacy who had spoken to Schultz. "Oh this is very bad, how much time do we have? I think everything else flew over my head after you mentioned, oh you know they're going to rob Iron Man!" He asked Stacy.
"Very soon the clocks ticking against us. It's going to be soon they are going to hit the vault, in an hour approximately" Stacy replied looking concerned.
Spider-Man's face dropped under the mask. "It's only been a day since the last bit of trouble! How do we know it's not a trick? He happened to leave out his friend who happened to be working with Beetle and the daughter of Tombstone. Very bad to forget about those details." He pointed out.
Stacy sighed. "You can ask him yourself, we've got a moment to talk."
"Oh great." Peter replied.
"Hello? Spider-Man? I'm very sorry for everything that's happened." He instantly said.
"Herman! You've got a lot of explaining to do!" Peter exclaimed loudly.
"Listen, I'm sorry! I didn't know how bad things were with my old friend, she's not the same person anymore and is very dangerous! She's a cruel person now, I'm shocked by the person she's become! She used to be kinder, I mean now I think about it she always did have some darker streaks." He realized thinking about it more.
Spidey believed him. "I'm sorry about your friend. Never like hearing about friendships breaking up, I hate switching topics now, but I've gotta know what's happening here now. Like how bad of an attack on Iron Man's vault are we talking about? The Beetle guy kicked my butt and that friend of yours didn't help. No bad guys I need to know about are there?"
"The leader, Odessa Drake, said she'd be joining us. I know nothing about her really, besides something about her is threatening." He replied.
Stacy looked greatly confused. "Are you sure? She's meant to be long dead by now." He said shockingly.
"Uh, I have to fight a ghost? A zombie?" Spider-Man asked, completely bewildered.
"She looked normal." Schultz shrugged. "Oh crap, gotta go. We'll be heading out soon, goodluck!" He said hanging up.
Peter looked over at Stacy. "So, are you sure she's meant to be, you know, unalive?"
"She's meant to have died years ago, Odessa Drake was very wealthy and her family, power houses in New York, there were rumors of her still being alive. I can't believe it's seemingly true. You seen stranger things after all." He reasoned.
Spider-Man shook his head rapidly. "Uh no, no, I've not fought anyone who's meant to be long dead. That's a new one. Oh gosh, do you think she'll kill me if she can't die?"
"We don't know exactly what's happening, it could be a trick." He then suggested.
"Oh, I hope so. Really hoping so. Welp, looks like I should go protect that vault. I hope I'll get through this in one piece, bad luck hurts. A lot." He swung over to the vault.
After about 30 minutes he finally reached the place, unfortunately it appeared somehow he was beaten there. Crap! I'm too late! Beetle and some ninjas were waiting outside looking all pretty dangerous. I bet Iron Man is busy with The Avengers, doesn't even know what trouble is going down! He waited for a moment and saw Beetle head inside, leaving him with the ninjas. Okay, a bit better.
Spider-Man tried to sneak on them, webbing up two hiding them and then immediately got caught. "Hey gang, you're going to try killing me again aren't you?"
It appeared as they all started swinging their swords at him avoiding all the sharp edges, with so many swords coming at him a couple slashes cut his suit again. "Come on! I just fixed this!" He cried out and decided on a fancy move going to the ground and spinning his legs around the foes surrounding him kicking them all off their feet dropping their swords. In that moment he backflipped, webbing up most of them and nearly got a sword thrown at his face, but he naturally avoided it by kicking the last guy out. "Can't believe my spinning idea worked, everyday I feel more like a dancing super hero!" He exclaimed heading inside of the vault.
The Shocker was waiting for him. "Sorry." He whispered and motioned subtly that they were being watched.
Spidey understood and got ready to fight, shooting out webs towards him as blasts came right at him, thankfully it was easy to avoid. More webs were fired out and he reasoned hitting the gauntlets would work out making it start to malfunction.
Before he could beat Shocker, The Beetle showed up firing more rockets at him once again. "How did he know where we are!"
Shocker shrugged and ripped off the webbing trying to avoid suspicion. "Could he have, like, a sixth sense knowing where trouble is? He always seems to find danger!"
"Doesn't matter, let's kill him now!" Beetle opened fire, firing a machine gun from their shoulders, nearly hitting him. To make matters worse, more ninjas arrived behind his foe a lot more who looked quite unhappy and shockingly most of all, carried guns. And if that wasn't bad enough, a couple more stepped out in Iron Man suits
He webbed up his own little barcade to avoid the bullets. "What kind of ninjas carry guns and dress up as Iron Man! This is way too extreme! Can we please relax for a moment!" He exclaimed, forming a plan in his head, not exactly finding a reasonable one. "A lot of rockets came flying at him. "Crap." He leaped back running out the vault getting a massive explosion knocking him back damaging the suit more. Peter got back up getting ready to continue the fight, but a face approached from behind.
"Looks like you seriously need a hand." The voice said.
He turned around and saw Iron Man flying in the air landing carefully.
"Oh your Iron Man. You're not going to try killing me right? I know that might seem like a strange question, but there is a lot of danger down in your fault Mr. Iron Man sir." Spider-Man said awkwardly.
"Unless you let them in the front door, no I'll not be killing you." He replied, crossing his arms looking at him.
"There are bad guys in there a lot and one stole-" He was cut off by said thief blasting out in his Iron Man armor. "Yeah, stole that."
Iron Man glared at them and pressed a button making the suit power down. "Not a problem, I have a shut down for my suits. Unless they are able to bypass it, which would mean we're screwed. It's unlikely they can." He remarked.
"Unlikely? Not sure if I like those odds, do you wanna team up and kick some bad guys around?" Spider-Man asked hopeful.
Iron Man nodded and the two went back in, Iron Man immediately started blasting back those pesky ninjas knocking them out, then flew up to Beetle. "Interesting tech. Mine's better." He said getting into a fight with them.
"Odessa! Iron Man's here!" She shouted over her communicator, which didn't get a response to her annoyance. "Herman help!"
Spider-Man immediately rushed over to Shocked, kicking him in the face knocking him out, which he felt bad about, but wanted to play it right.
"Dammit!" She exclaimed and zoomed out of the vault. Iron Man looked to follow her, but turned to Spider-Man quickly. "Make sure you protect my weapons, they can't fall into dangerous hands!" He zoomed off.
"Bright idea, chase the villain and not help protect your very dangerous weapons. Very lovely, wasn't how I ever dreamed meeting Iron Man would go." Spidey remarked and headed deeper into the vault.
Sure enough shortly he discovered more trouble, Black Cat and Odessa Drake were trying to get through another door.
"Alright! This is over now!" Spidey declared.
"Black Cat. Kill him." Odessa said not bothered by him.
She looked unsure about it.
"Fine, sometimes if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself." She remarked, looking quite angry.
Spider-Man wasn't sure of what to think. "So, what can you do?"
She chuckled. "I have no powers." Odessa began saying.
"That's good." Peter remarked.
"I do have around a hundred years of knowledge in my head, I've gone through a lot in that time and I'll never have you ruin everything." She replied as Spider-Man shot out a webline at her, which she surprisingly avoided. "You weren't listening, I've lived a longer and more fulfilling life than most have on this planet. I've trained a lot."
He did look more concerned now. "Uh, am I in trouble?"
Odessa pulled out some swords.
"So many swords, so many sharp things. I'm not a fan of them, could we talk about this nicely please?" Spidey suggested.
She declined charging at him swinging at him swiftly performing a lot of fast movements and such he couldn't imagine.
"Wow lady!" He exclaimed, trying to evade incoming attacks. "Don't have any superpowers huh? Yeah right! Nobody moves like that!"
"With a hundred years of learning, you start to pick up on things." She replied, continuing trying to cut into Peter.
He managed to web her sword, throwing it away, however she threw a few daggers at him, one actually managing to go into his shoulder.
"Ouch! How the heck did you do that?" He was bewildered by missing it.
"I see your movements, very predictable." She responded.
He had an idea. "Predictable huh?" Spidey decided on digging any sense of logic with his movements, confusing his foe greatly and managing to knock her down.
"Black Cat help! Give him bad luck!" She shouted out.
She shrugged. "Spider, how about we call it even and I'll head out."
"Sounds good to me." He waved to her as she escaped.
"Felicia! Come back! You can't leave me with this fool!" She exclaimed, as Spider-Man webbed her up.
He shaked his finger at his now defeated foe. "You've been very bad and you'll be having a very lovely stay in prison for a very long time. Extremely long for a very old cranky person such as yourself."
"I'm immortal. You've made a very powerful enemy." She claimed.
"Immortal? Seriously? Why did you go down so easily then?"
She sighed. "I don't age, but I can still die."
"Oh, how did you get immortal?" Spidey asked, starting to carry her off.
"Very simple, made a deal with a demon." She replied calmly.
"Oh, very simple." He responded sarcastically, not believing her. "So, come on tell me the truth you're heading to jail I have a dagger in my shoulder." He stared at it. "Oh yes, that reminds me." He pulled it out. "Oww! Golly that hurt."
"If it makes you feel better, I wasn't lying." She replied.
"Right lady." He brought her outside as the police approached and Iron Man returned.
His helmet revealed Tony Stark. "That Beetle person escaped." He stepped forward to Odessa looking angry. "Who hired you?"
"Even if I knew who, I'd never tell you." She claimed.
"Fine, I believe you." Iron Man replied and started to walk away into his vault.
"Uh hey, Mr. Iron Man what happens now? There has to be some clean up right? Do you need any assistance or debrief?" Spidey asked.
He turned to Spider-Man. "Not necessary, thank you for the help." Iron Man then stepped into his vault and shut the door.
"Rude." Peter muttered and turned to Stacy. "Don't you have any more questions for him? Can't you do anything? This seems a bit weird!"
"Technically speaking, it's protected property and I'm not allowed on. Too dangerous for our eyes, we're not even meant to know where the vault is located." Stacy explained with an annoyed frown.
Spidey did the same. "Yeah, Iron Man is kinda a jerk. Never thought I'd be saying that! I looked up to that guy you know!"
"On the brighter side, we have Odessa in custody along with a large amount of her organization." Stacy pointed out.
"Not Black Cat and Beetle, though that cat doesn't seem so bad. Yeah, I guess it was a win today. Nice to have wins."
Stacy smiled. "Agreed. My favorite as well."
As Odessa was taken away, Shocker was allowed to be freed, coming over to Captain Stacy and Spider-Man.
"Thank you both for letting me help." He said with a smile pulling off his mask.
"You're welcome. Glad you assisted. You are free to go, your name will be left out of everything." Stacy replied.
Spidey nodded happily at him too. "Yeah, you know I wasn't sure about you. I'm surprised by how you helped out. Hope I'll get to work with you again!" He waved to his new ally and swung off.
Later on Peter returned to school, missing pretty much his entire day, ultimately it was worth it taking down the Thieves Guild. Now they were out of the way, less trouble would be coming to the city.
He approached his friends.
"Hey everyone, so sorry for being gone pretty much the entire day. I went on a wild goose chase today, and didn't catch any goose." He lied and joked.
"Pete, I can't believe you missed classes today! There was so much cool stuff, like uh. You know never mind wish I skipped too." Harry remaked with a smirk.
"I wasn't skipping, it was Bugle stuff."
Gwen shook her head at him. "It couldn't have been that important!"
At this point, Peter knew he'd be having to lie better. "It was a very big assignment! And I'm going to be getting a lot of money for Aunt May!" He exclaimed defending himself and realized he'd have to work his behind off for a few days to get this extra money. Me and my big mouth!
"Oh that's fair, sorry for judging you then." Gwen replied.
"Yeah, sometimes I think we both forget you have a lot of money struggles." Harry added with an awkward look.
Peter nodded. "Uh, how about your lab assistant position? Did you get it?"
Gwen looked pleased. "Yes I did! It sounds very exciting. Speaking of which, I should tell my parents about it. Hope my dad didn't have a miserable day."
"I'm sure it was a fine day." Peter said, having a pretty good feeling about it.
She walked off.
"Hey, where's MJ?" Peter asked, looking around and then at Harry.
"I don't know. Flew over my head! I think she was talking to some new friend she made today or something no idea." Harry said.
Peter looked at him. "That's kinda an idea buddy. Have you talked to Gwen at all about everything? Your party stuff?" He then asked.
His friend started to whistle looking away.
"You still haven't had you?"
"Nope. I mean she's got more important stuff going on, like working with that doctor Conners guy! She's got all sorts of genetic science stuff to be doing."
"Mostly research with reptiles regeneration I'd assume." Peter replied.
Harry just naturally stared at him.
"Yeah, it's a pretty small interest." Peter admitted.
"Still kinda awesome if it'd work. Though I know she's not exactly believing in it working out. Still would be sick if maybe she could help the doc complete it!" Harry exclaimed hopefully in Gwen's abilities.
"Not sure if that's what a lab assistant does buddy. Though you never know, Gwen is an extremely talented person of course so it's very possible." Peter admitted with a smile.
"She sure is! And hey look! There's Mary Jane!" Harry exclaimed, waving at her and nugged Peter.
"You've been spending too much time with Gwen." He joked.
Indeed she did come over. "Hey, what's up?"
"Heard you made a new friend." Peter replied, interested.
"I don't know, I just started to hit off with someone. Sally Avril? Apparently we went to school with her?" She asked.
Peter and Harry looked at each other.
"She was nice to you?" Harry asked bewildered.
"Agreed with him." Peter added surprised.
MJ looked surprised by them both. "She was pretty nice, what's the matter with her? Did she bully you both?"
"Mostly me, kinda thought Harry was cute until he was around the quote nerds too much." Peter explained.
"Oh, well guess she's changed a bit."
"Hopefully so. That's great if you made a new friend MJ!" Peter exclaimed happily.
"Not sure if we'll be friends, but she was alright." She clarified.
"Wanna get an early dinner together?" Harry suggested it to his friends.
Peter looked shocked. "It's close to dinner already?"
"We could have dinner at May's." MJ said.
Harry looked happy with that. "Sounds great!"
"Dinner? Where did my day go?" Peter wondered to himself.
"You have a busy day I'm guessing." MJ said to him.
"You've got no idea." He laughed to himself.
Herman meanwhile returned home to his family, a wife and a young child. In a kind gesture Captain Stacy had brought him home himself along with Officer Dewolff.
He smiled to himself. "My kid's going to know their dad helped out Spider-Man one day. I feel pretty proud of that."
"Thank you for the help. If you ever see anything out of the ordinary or come into trouble, you've got a direct line to myself." Stacy expressed to him.
"I appreciate that, Officer Stacy. Thank you both." He said getting out and rushing inside, seeming to lovingly hug his family, happy as can be.
"We've taken the gauntlets from him sir?" She asked starting to drive off.
Stacy nodded. "And destroyed them, unfortunately the blueprints are in the wind and another more advantaged suit. I hated lying, we'll be having to keep an eye on him. Could be in danger from retaliation if anyone found out about him helping us."
Inside after a short passage of time, Herman went into the garage for a moment looking at some parts, recalling the blueprint he saw. Going to college as an engineer would help in rebuilding his gauntlets and remembering the plans well enough. Keeping his family safe was the top priority for him above all else.
Elsewhere, the woman named Odessa Drake, leader of the Thieves Guild was brought into processing inside of an even more secure prison than Rikers Island. Considering who she was, her sentence would be carried out at The Raft which didn't have very many prisoners. Even so, a phone was still snuck to her, on the other end was her secret partner.
"I need support now! Get me out of here!" She shouted.
"And why would I risk everything for that? You don't know my name and you certainly aren't any use to me. Our partnership is over. Goodbye Odessa." They hung up.
"Wait! Wait! You can't do this! I've been alive for longer than you and I'll be here longer than you." They claimed and threw the phone.
Her benefactor sat inside of his lair looking at a formlier suit. One belonging to The Hobgoblin with new weapons. "Even without you Odessa, I'll be having my revenge and destroying Norman Osborn will be assured and all my other enemies, the world will see the true genius that I am!" They exclaimed to themselves plotting their next move.
Hope you enjoyed The Thieves Guild storyline, I had originally intended on it being longer another chapter. And even more originally planned on like 9 chapters, including an entire Shocker focused chapter, but I felt it all wasn't interesting enough and wasn't something readers would want. It was self indulgent (think that's the word) so probably the best I didn't go through with it. Set up some more stories that'll hopefully be followed up on if I have my way. I can promise at least a follow up for Hobgoblin being in the works currently and looking forward to it.
Also hoping you all enjoyed Iron Man's appearance. I didn't want it to be too long, I originally had it longer, I hoped it was a good length.
Next up, (if you're from the future you already know) is another classic Spidey villain having their appearance looking forward to it. I've got a lot more classic villains who haven't appeared yet, hopefully I'll be able to have them all appear in one way or another. I love so many of the villains and want to be able to have them all appear.
Thanks for continuing to read.
