Hey everyone! I seemed to have been fired up enough to pump out another chapter. Don't expect me to update that fast all the time though I'm not that good.
When the Xiao Long came back home, barely a word had been spoken by the two as they settled down from their day. Both had taken a seat in the living room as they sighed. Taiyang was fishing for the television's remote while Yang had been on her phone, seemingly switching between texting and browsing the internet.
"Did you have any plans with your friends for tonight?" Asked the father, having finally found the object he was looking for.
"Not tonight, though the gang invited me to go out in Vale Thursday." Answered the graduate as she rolled onto her back, her phone held up in the air.
"Great, great. Say, why don't we do something to celebrate then? Just you and I, father and daughter?" He offered while surfing through different channels.
Caught by surprise at the offer, Yang accidentally dropped her phone onto her face. With a groan, she sat up. "I don't know dad. I don't really feel like doing much tonight. Though I wouldn't mind tomorrow."
Tai had a saddened expression at first before it suddenly perked up. "A whole day? Yeah, good idea! That sounds way better!"
"That's not what I-" She tried to retort, but abruptly stopped herself. A small smile grew onto her lips. "Sure dad, that'd be great."
He stood up and headed for the kitchen. "I better make dinner then. Watch out Patch! Tomorrow, the Xiao Long are going to wreck your food stock."
Yang let out a laugh. "Yeah!" She stood up in turn and grabbed her school bag before marching up the stairs. "I'll be in my room."
As she walked down the upstairs corridor, she started singing to herself another one of her sister's songs.
~I don't want to close my eyes~
I don't want to fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you, babe.
And I don't want to miss a thing.
'Cause even when I dream of you.
The sweetest dream would never do.
I'd still miss you, babe
~And I don't want to miss a thing~
As soon as she entered her bedroom, she threw her bag onto her bed before gently throwing herself onto her desk's chair, letting the wheels take her into the corner of the room as she slowly spun around. Once the chair came to a halt, she was left face to face with a collage of various articles and video screenshots related to her sister's sightings over the years.
On the very left, were a couple of headlines from five years ago when a "mysterious vigilante" had begun cleaning the streets of Vale not long after Ruby had left. As time went on, the locations on the articles had started going west of the continent, towards Vacuo.
Yang's gaze then landed on the couple of screenshots from different videos coming from the sand covered Kingdom where a red, blurred figure could be briefly seen killing Grimm and sometimes beating up raiders. She eyed a specific picture, where the red figure was still hard to discern, yet one thing could be seen clearer than the rest; two slightly glowing, cold, silver eyes.
The blonde turned towards a printed web article from Menagerie. Looking back on it, she wasn't very surprised that her sister had managed to gain so much fame when the first article that mentioned Ruby's name was when she had been a key member of the country's recent expansion. There were two pictures that accompanied the document. The first one depicted her sister surrounded by faunus children and teenagers while one black haired, cat faunus was riding on her shoulders, looking very flustered. They were all smiling and laughing as they seemed to be dancing around a fire. Yang remembered being extremely jealous and furious when she had first seen that picture, but her anger was instantly dismissed at the sight of the second one.
It was a close up picture of her sister giving two peace signs with her fingers, striking a pose as she stood upon the disappearing corpse of a huge grimm. She was still wearing her red cloak and old clothes although they were quite tattered from all of her adventures before then. However, one thing that had been very noticeable for sixteen years old Yang back then was that those clothes were getting a bit too tight for the now quite developed silver eyed almost twenty-one years old. This along with the experimental mentality of a teenager had led her to discover quite a bit about herself that day. Notably her sexuality and the fact that the sister complex her friends had teased her about might be a bit more serious than she thought.
The brawler shook her head, trying to dismiss the thoughts that came to her mind along with the blush that had taken over her face. " Damn, I really need to get rid of that problem before she comes back. "
She turned her head once more and saw the couple of interviews that Ruby had made as she traveled throughout Mistral on the Anima continent. One of those interviews included a photoshoot which revealed that her sister had a change of wardrobe along with the fact that she had replaced her hood with a drape-like large cloth. While it was undeniable that her new attire fit her grown figure, its form fitting nature made the various pictures an important reference during Yang's... private activities, as for many others no doubt.
With how small of an island Patch is, it didn't take long before the news of Ruby Rose being a rising hero spread all over the place. Thankfully, when the people noticed that Ruby had never revealed where she came from nor the fact that she had family, they were kind enough to keep that information from any outsider that could have had a suspicion and came to ask questions.
Finally, Ruby's popularity officially skyrocketed when she arrived in Atlas. There had been an increasing amount of grimm that had tried to tear down the walls of Mantle and while the Atlesian military could hold the fort, any attempt at pushing the creatures back had been met with failure until the raven-haired beauty had cut a path from behind them so she could reach the walls. While many wondered why anyone would try to reach the kingdom by foot and alone, the display of talent and strength done by her sister quickly answered those questions. From then on, Ruby would be seen taking commissions from either the military or the locals for around a bit more than a year.
Yang's focus switched to the last picture she had put up on her wall. It was once again, a close up of Ruby who had returned from an expedition accompanied by a group of military figures while supporting a woman named Winter Schnee on her shoulder. Both had a happy grin on their faces as they walked next to each other, though the faint blush that was on the Schnee's cheeks had been very obvious to the blonde.
Yang took out the pendant she had between her breasts and clutched it close to her heart as she saw the last article she had set up on the wall. Its headline had been written in enormous, bold letters: "Where is Ruby Rose?"
"God knows how much I wish I knew..." She muttered to herself with a pained expression.
She rolled herself back to her desk and opened her laptop on which she spent a couple of minutes looking for any sightings of her sister. Finding nothing, she sighed before trying to distract herself with web videos. It didn't take long before she heard her father call her from the kitchen, telling her that dinner was ready. She stood up and was about to leave her bedroom when she stopped herself and gazed once more at her collage. She gave it a sad smile as she left for the stairs towards the dining room.
Dinner was quite uneventful, she had a couple of small talks with her dad before they roughly planned what they would do the next day. Once done, they cleaned the dishes together and said their goodnights as they went their separate ways. Feeling like going to bed early, Yang took a shower before laying down in her bed, scroll in her hand as she answered a couple of texts from her friends. Once done, she closed the screen as she removed the pendant from around her neck and set it down next to her on her pillow.
It was a glass trinket in the shape of her sister's emblem. It had a subtle glow to it that had Yang sigh in relief. Ruby had made it for her before leaving. She said that as long as it kept glowing, it meant that she was still alive and Yang had never doubted her words. Not when she was thirteen and not now, five years later. Although there had been moments when she wondered how her sister managed to get her hands on something like that.
She stared passed the object, towards one of Ruby's many pictures on her wall. A look of hesitation washed over her face as she sat up, shifting her gaze towards the open space beneath her bed. A sigh left her lips as she ducked down and pulled out a wooden box which she placed in front of her while she knelt to the floor. Silently removing the straps, she opened the container to reveal one of Ruby's old cloaks, neatly folded and preserved.
" That's perfectly normal. " Argued the blonde to herself. She was about to grab the clothing when she reminded herself that even her father was unaware of this hidden object. " Okay, maybe not, but it's not weird or anything. "
Pushing the box back underneath her bed, she laid back down with the cape hugged to her body as she snuggled the fabric. She tried to close her eyes and let the night take her away when her gaze locked onto that one picture from Menagerie once more. She blushed as the memories of that night flooded her mind before burying her face into the cloak.
" Who am I kidding? None of this is normal. " She thought as she took a deep breath into the fabric. Even after all these years, it still retained a faint smell of her sister. " I can't just stop after all this time! I miss you so much big sis. I... " Her thighs rubbed against each other as she stared at the couple of pictures from the photoshoot. " I need you... "
Her eyes widened as she quickly separated herself from the cloak. The blonde rolled onto her back and stared at the ceiling, panting slightly. Only now had she noticed that her heart had been racing intensively. She took a couple of deep breaths to calm down the growing heat between her legs.
" You can't, you idiot! " She berated herself. " Last time was supposed to be just that; the last time. "
Once her heart had calmed down, she breathed out a disappointed sigh. "What am I doing..." She reluctantly placed the cloak back into its box before heading for her dresser, fetching herself a pair of dry underwear. When she went back to bed, she made sure to look the other way to avoid any more incidents.
It took a while, but she eventually managed to fall asleep.
The brawler managed to get a couple of hours of sleep before being forcefully woken up by the familiar vibrating pattern of a scroll call. She tried to rub the sleep out of her eyes to little results before answering.
"Yeah?" She asked with a tired voice.
"How can you be sleeping right now?!" Screamed her friend over the line, forcing Yang to separate herself from the device slightly.
"Look it's like..." She glanced at the clock in her room. "...almost five in the morning. Even you are usually asleep by then."
"Have you seriously not looked at any of the texts I've sent you?" asked the girl, not acknowledging the blonde's comment.
Yang lowered her scroll from her ear to open her messaging app. Never before had exhaustion left her body so fast in her life as to when she saw the headlines of the links sent by her friend.
"If this is a joke, it's not funny." She angrily growled while pressing on one of the links.
Her friend started to defend herself but fell on deaf ears as the blonde quickly read through the article. It read as follows:
《 It was barely two in the morning as various eye witnesses saw and took pictures with the world famous celebrity, Ruby Rose, in a remote town on the edge of the kingdom of Vale.
When questioned about the reason for her arrival, the only answer that has been provided to her fans was that she was on a "vacation". Although, that claim has been under investigation since reports are that several witnesses have seen her take a couple of Grimm hunting requests for the town next to the one she was last sighted in. 》
"Holy shit." Muttered Yang as she scrolled through a couple of the pictures that fans had taken with her sister. True to the articles' words, it really was her, posing and smiling for the cameras. " Here? In Vale? "
Without a word to her friend, she hung up the scroll and sprinted out of her room, down the stairs and into the living room where Taiyang could be seen sitting on the couch, watching the television in shock.
"Here is Geoff, live at the last place Miss Rose has been spotted." Said the news anchor as the feed switched to the town mentioned in the article Yang had read.
"Thanks Rick. As you can see behind me, the request board for hunters now has a large amount of empty spots for the town of Woolhope. Here with me is Riktor, a hunter that was present when Miss Rose had taken the requests." Said the reporter tilting his microphone towards a man that was standing beside him.
"I mean, usually when someone without a hunter's license shows up to take requests, they don't even get to see the board before we kick them out." Said the hunter looking slightly awkward to be in front of the camera despite his imposing frame. "But, like, it's Ruby Rose y'know? My daughter has been gushing about her for the last three years. What was I supposed to do?" He fished into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper with some writing on it. "I did get her autograph though. Can't wait to see my little girl's face when I give her this."
Yang had stopped watching by then and turned towards her father. "Dad?"
"She's... she's coming home?" He hesitantly asked, meeting his daughter's gaze with tears in his eyes. "She is right?"
The blonde young adult sat down and gave him a hug, burying her face into his shoulder as her tears soaked his shirt. "I think so, yeah."
A short laugh escaped the man which escalated into an ugly mix of laughter and cries. Yang only hugged him tighter as she finally let go and cried in turn.
They spent the rest of their morning, crying in joy and relief into each other's arms.
