Not too proud of how that one came out to be honest. I might revisit it down the line, but please bear with this for now. Thank you and please enjoy.
Once the two blonds had calmed down, they decided that they might as well get ready for their day out since it was obvious that Yang couldn't go to bed at this point. While their plan hadn't included breakfast, just in case that the graduate slept in, they agreed on eating at one of the local restaurants before heading out to Vale. Their walk down the streets of patch had been filled by people stopping them to share their excitement at the latest news. They even were served breakfast for free in celebration which they tried to refuse, but ended up leaving the equivalent in cash on the table. While the people were often enthusiastic whenever news about Ruby would appear, never before have they been this aggressive with the Xiao Long. While the blonds wouldn't say that it ruined their day, it certainly wasn't the highlight of it either.
"Man, they're being a bit much today, huh?" Commented Taiyang as he drove them towards Patch's airport.
"Yeah, tell me about it. I'm glad that school's already over. I don't want to imagine how that would've gone." Scoffed Yang as she pulled out her scroll.
Her father chuckled before turning on the radio.
"Indeed John. Not even twelve hours have passed and witness reports say that Ruby Rose arrived at Woolhope not too long ago. She apparently submitted completion reports for all of the requests she had taken earlier this morning." Said the radio host, attracting the attention of the two in the car.
"Quite right, Billy. We all knew that her semblance involves speed but to cross from one town to another in what, seven to eight hours? That's quite fast." Added the co-host.
"That is pretty fast." Mumbled Taiyang with worry. "I hope she's not overdoing it. That can't have been easy on her aura."
"We're receiving word that our team in Woolhope has found Miss Rose. Here's Charlie, on the scene. How's it going over there Charlie?"
A moment of silence passed, making the Xiao Long play with the volume, thinking that something might have happened.
"Charlie?" Asked Billy.
"R-right, uh, so, uh, I'm in Woolhope, in front of a cafe where Miss Rose can be seen inside, resting at a corner table." Finally replied the field reporter.
"Hang on, your team is not with her to ask questions?" Inquired John.
"W-well about that, it seems that she might be asleep in her seat." Stuttered Charlie. "And, uh, wow... Believe me guys when I say that cameras don't do the woman justice. She is beautiful."
"Woah there Charlie, remember that we're live right now." Mocked Billy although, it could be heard in his voice that the man was quite jealous.
"Y-yeah, uh, anyway, while we were asking around for Miss Rose's location, we've been told that she has taken other requests for the city of Coalfell." Replied the reporter, trying to get some professionalism back.
By then, both Xiao Long had arrived at the airport. Luckily, Yang managed to get the station on her scroll so she took out some earbuds and lent one to her father so they could listen on the Bullhead to Vale.
"Sounds like she's planning on leaving soon." Pointed out John, while his partner was muttering something in the background.
"Well, based on the two towns that she has picked, my team and I are guessing that she is most likely heading towards Vale. However, traveling at such speed must be taxing even for an incredible woman such as her, so she'll probably have to stop in each town or city along the way to rest." Theorized the reporter.
"That is... quite the guess there Charlie. You said you believe that she's heading for Vale is that right?" Asked John, it would seem that Billy has fallen silent.
"That's right and if she continues at the pace she has been going, we're guessing that she might arrive around Thursday."
Both blonds' eyes widened in shock. "Isn't that when you and your friends were planning on going out?" Asked Taiyang.
Yang simply answered with a nod as the news was sinking in. " Doesn't that mean that she'll actually be there for my graduation? "
"Hey, dad? Could we buy a dress at some point today?" She asked as the bullhead started to land.
His eyes almost popped out of their sockets. "You? In a dress? What brought that up?"
"W-well, I don't have one for my graduation ceremony..." She muttered while avoiding his gaze.
"Didn't you say that you didn't need some fancy clothes just to 'get your awesomeness check'?" He pressed on, an eyebrow raised in doubt.
Yang blushed and quickly looked around to make sure no one was listening in on their conversation. "Ruby had one for hers, okay?"
A brief moment of silence passed which was broken by Taiyang's laughter. "And with how things are turning up, you're having a change of heart is that it? Sure, we can squeeze that into today's plan."
With that said, they both left the bullhead to officially start their father-daughter day out. They ate plenty of food and took part in various entertainment activities until they finally came to what Yang now considered the important part: Choosing a dress. If there is one of the many things Taiyang forgot in the last five years, it's how long Ruby had taken to choose hers, even when she said she didn't care that much about it. Now, considering that Yang does care, he realized that they would be here longer than he thought they would. On the other hand, it also meant that he was finally going to get pictures of his second daughter trying on dresses for their family's picture album. Two hours later, however, he couldn't say that his enthusiasm was still very present, nor was the staff's.
"Hey, dad?" Called out Yang from her changing room with a different kind of hesitation than she had so far. "I think this one looks nice?"
Taiyang groaned briefly. "Yang, we've been at this for two hours. I think the staff are about to kick us out."
His youngest daughter opened her room's door and revealed which dress had finally caught her attention. As soon as she came into view, Taiyang and a couple of people who were nearby stopped to stare at the blonde.
She had chosen a south Mistralian dress that was accompanied by two buns tied diagonally on each side of her head. The rather large openings that went from the bottom, up to the girl's hips on each side were not very appreciated by her father, who wondered if his daughter had some leggings she could use to cover up while she wore that dress. All in all, it was quite a pleasant coincidence that she chose this dress considering the fact that it was part of their last name's culture.
"W-what do you think?" Timidly asked Yang as she played with the white gloves that went up about halfway to her shoulders.
(Once again, I can't really put up pictures on here, but if you want to look it up, I used an art piece made by mojojoj27827860 on twitter as reference. If you search "Rwby yang chinese dress" on the internet, it should be the first result.)
Taiyang cleared his throat. "We'll have to make a couple of adjustments, but other than that you look stunning my little dragon!"
Yang blushed at the nickname. "Dad!"
It was then that her father noticed the stares of the onlookers. He swiftly shoved her back inside the changing room before turning to glare them away. They paid for the dress and accessories and left to get something to eat before they finally had to catch a bullhead back to Patch. Exhausted from the day, Yang had fallen asleep on Taiyang's shoulder which made him chuckle as he adjusted his position to make her more comfortable.
" You're not even back yet and you already have us running around Rubes. " He thought humorously, staring out the window. " To think that it's just Saturday. "
He spent the rest of the flight in silence, the light snoring of his daughter bringing him a sense of tranquility.
Unlike what the Xiao Long patriarch had thought, the rest of the week had been rather tame. Of course, the constant news about Ruby's movement has made his work colleagues rather curious and Yang's friend have been increasingly passionate in their questioning, but other than that, they still managed to enjoy their couple of days off before Ruby's supposed arrival in Vale.
When the famous day finally came, the Xiao Long had spent most of their day on the couch, watching live the massive amount of reporters and fans that had crowded the city of Vale's borders to make sure that they wouldn't miss the woman's arrival. The morning went by, then lunch, then the afternoon. When night came, most of them had went back home, thinking that they were probably off by one day and that she would arrive on Friday, leaving only a couple of die hard fans and desperate journalists to camp out.
"Well that was... a day well spent!" Shouted out Yang with a proud look on her face.
"Yang, we spent the entire day waiting for something that never happened." Deadpanned her father.
"And it was awesome." She confidently replied.
"You're just happy that you could laze around without me telling you to do something..." He added.
"Yup!"
He sighed. "Well, we might as well go to bed. Don't expect me to let you do that again tomorrow."
She groaned and started to follow him until a certain thought came to her head. "I know that she's the one who left, but shouldn't we get her a welcome home gift?"
Her father turned back towards her. "If you want to get her one, sure. My wallet's on the dining table. I trust that you won't bankrupt me by the end of the week."
"Actually, I was thinking that I could buy something with my own money." She replied, twirling a strand of hair between her fingers. "Also, I am perfectly able to handle money, thank you very much."
He raised an eyebrow. "That motorbike of yours says otherwise."
She faked a gasp and glared at him. "Bumblebee's an investment!"
"Mhm, sure. Don't come back home too late." He said while heading up the stairs.
She huffed before taking her bike's key. Grabbing a light coat, she entered their garage and hopped on her motorbike, driving off towards Patch's airport once more. Fortunately, there are transportation services available twenty-four hours, seven days of the week between Vale and Patch. The blonde paid for her ticket and off she was into Vale to hunt for the perfect gift for her sister. Walking down the commercial district, Yang scolded herself for going out so late.
" Most stores are closed by now. Why couldn't I have thought of this sooner? " She thought as a groan escaped her. " What now? "
Her eyes perused the various closed shops until she spotted one who's lights were still on. " From Dust 'til Dawn, cute name. "
As soon as she entered, she noticed the shopkeep who nodded at her to which she replied with a wave. "Don't mind me, just browsing." She awkwardly said to which he simply raised an eyebrow and went back to whatever he was doing beforehand.
" Well that was awkward. Now to find that gift. "
The brawler paced from row to row, becoming increasingly worried as nothing seemed to be something she could reliably buy. " Knowing Ruby, she probably already has her weapon in top notch condition so I can't buy a weapon part. It doesn't really help that I never figured out how Crescent Rose even works. "
She continued her search until her eyes landed on maintenance kits of various degrees. " Wait a minute... " She thought remembering all of the pictures her sister had taken with fans. " There's no way she managed to store one of these in her outfit! Yang you- "
Her self praising was interrupted by the sound of the store's front door opening. Taking a quick peak over the shelf, she could see that a bunch of men dressed in similar clothing came into the store with another who stood out from the rest. She recognized the thugs, they were Junior's men which told her all she needed to know about their intentions. As for the distinctly dressed man, she recognized him immediately.
" Roman Torchwick. " She had seen his face a couple of times on television.
He wore a red-lined white suit with black pants and shoes. His outfit was completed by a grey scarf around the neck along with a bowler hat that sat on his ginger hair and a cane in his hand. He removed a cigar from his lips and scattered the ashes on the counter as he leaned onto it. Yang subtly deployed her shot gauntlets, Ember Celica, as she tried to make herself unnoticed.
" Great, Ruby could arrive in Vale at any point now and here I am, getting in trouble. " She complained to herself as she slowly approached the group that entered.
"Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a dust shop opened this late?" Asked the ginger haired man as one of his subordinates pointed a gun at the clerk.
The man raised his hands in surrender. "P-please! Just take my lien and leave!"
The thugs' leader shushed the clerk. "Calm down, we're not here for your money." He turned towards one of his men. "Grab the dust."
"As if!" Screamed Yang as she grabbed the pistol-wielding thug's arm and threw him over her back, through the store's display window.
Stunned at the sudden interruption, the leader and his goons were too late to react when she spun around and roundhouse kicked them through the same window. That left two other men behind the young adult who finally decided to act. One unclasped the machete on his belt and tried to swing at the brawler while the other upholstered his pistol and aimed at her head.
Yang turned towards them, grabbing the first man's wrist before it got too close and raised her gauntlet to block a couple of shots as she dashed towards the gun wielder, forcefully tripping the machete user and dragging him on the floor. Once she got close enough, the man had already run out of bullets which allowed her to rip the weapon out of his hand and grab his wrist before turning back towards the window she broke earlier.
"Everyone knows that proper fights need to be taken outside!" She screamed as she threw both men out, straight into the two other henchmen who were struggling to stand up.
She gave the shopkeeper a concerned look. "Are you okay?"
He gave her a thankful nod which she answered with a smile as she ran outside. The four thugs were still on the ground while their boss was fixing his attire.
"What's wrong boys? Can't keep up with one girl? I didn't even get to punch any of you, yet." She taunted, brushing her hair aside arrogantly for added effect.
Her answer came in the form of pained grunts while the ginger haired man sighed. "You were worth every cent, truly you were." He glared at Yang as he picked up his cane. "Well blondie, I think we can all say it's been an eventful evening. And as much as I'd love to stick around, I'm afraid this is where we part ways." He then raised his cane towards her as a sight popped up from the bottom, revealing that it was also a ranged weapon.
"Shit!" Swore the blonde as she crossed her arms to block the incoming shot. While her aura protected her from getting hurt, the projectile's explosive charge pushed her back into a wall which stunned her momentarily.
She kneeled down to recover from the dizzy spell which allowed her to notice that the man was gone. Confused, she looked around and managed to catch a glimpse of a white dressed figure climbing an emergency ladder up to a nearby rooftop. With a grunt, she stood up, sprinted towards the building— giving herself momentum — and used the blast feature of her gauntlets to launch herself upwards, easily catching up to the man.
She saw that he was now trapped at the roof's edge as she took a fighting stance. "I think you got this backwards buddy; usually, guys chase after me." She joked yet the tone of her voice made it clear that this wouldn't end well for him.
"Persistent little..." He mumbled in annoyance while turning towards her. "You know what they say, blondie. There's a first time for everything." He took a moment to analyze her looks for the first time. "And I do mean everything." He added with a flirtatious smirk.
Yang's frown deepened at that last remark. "Dream on, creep." She replied, cocking her gauntlets. " This body is for one person onl- Damn it Yang! "
Suddenly, a bullhead flew up from behind the building and opened its side door, allowing the crime boss to jump on. He grabbed onto a safety bar as he pulled out a red dust crystal. "'Till we meet again, blondie!"
He threw the object towards her and aimed his cane at it, making Yang's eyes widen in realization as she stumbled backwards. "Shit, shit, shit!" She screamed, blocking her face with her arms.
The sound of an explosion made the shopkeeper rush outside and glance upwards at where smoke could be seen. He had called the police as soon as the blonde had exited his shop and could now only pray that help would arrive in time. The sound of someone walking on glass shards made him turn around. He was surprised to see a young woman, covered in a massive red drape, poking the cheek of one of the unconscious thugs.
"I came as soon as I heard an explosion," She stood up to face him. "but I see that they have that handled." She said while gazing at the rooftop where a huntress was using some kind of telekinesis semblance along with dust to fight off the bullhead and the dark-haired woman inside.
The old man's cheeks reddened as the drape opened to reveal the woman hidden inside. Shoulder length raven hair with red tips and one long streak, two beautiful, caring silver eyes and perfect plump lips. Sensual shoulders with strong yet slender arms wrapped around the drape to hold it in place. Smooth, silky skin met her skintight clothing which allowed anyone to see her impressive bust with waist and hips to die for. Heavenly thighs that accompanied long, slender legs came out of a short skirt that hid just enough to seem decent. He had only seen a woman this beautiful once before.
"You- You're..." He stuttered, unable to finish his sentence.
She walked towards him, the sway of her hips forcing him to look away as he would prefer to not die from a heart attack. She extended a hand for a handshake. "Ruby Rose, at your service. Though, I would prefer if you'd wait before telling the media I was here? They were hard enough to avoid as it was at the border."
He could only shake her hand in silence while nodding his head as she stared back at the rooftop. She could see that the bullhead was gone already and that the huntress glared at a familiar blonde that she definitely recognized. "That does sound like her." She chuckled, letting go of the man's hand.
"Now, for the reparations cost." Said the celebrity pulling out her scroll from her skirt's pocket. "I have a contact that I'm sure wouldn't mind paying for the damage if I give her the reason. Do you happen to have something I could write on?" She asked with an angelic smile.
The shopkeep went back inside with a smile on his face. Never before had he thought that a robbery would be the best thing to happen to him in a while. They exchanged information for a short while before the stunning woman noticed that her sister was being shoved into a police car by the huntress, who then sat beside her.
"Well then, looks like I have to make a quick stop before heading home now, don't I?" She mused to herself as she left towards the police station, humming songs along the way much to the delight of whomever happened to hear her.
