I was supposed to write a main story chapter when this idea came to me, so here it is. I kinda managed to slip in Jaunedice which I'm proud of since I didn't really want to touch it in the first place.

Hope you enjoy!

Ruby sat at her desk while her students slowly gathered into the amphitheater. In front of her, stood her teammates who used the brief time before the start of the class to talk with the celebrity. "The Forever Fall forest? Wow you girls are really lucky. I was planning on taking us there for a picnic, but if you're going there with your class, I guess I'll have to find something else."

The trio froze momentarily. "A picnic date with Ruby/miss Rose?" They then glanced at each other which reminded them of their shared secret.

"W-well, I for one, think that it would be lovely to go back for a picnic." Nervously argued Weiss.

"Y-yeah, it's not like miss Goodwitch is taking us there for a good time." Added Blake mirroring the heiress' anxiety.

"As if I'd say no to a picnic with you, sis." Finished Yang before being hit in the ribs by her partner. "I mean, we. As if we'd say no."

Ruby chuckled before shaking her head as she cooed. "You girls are just too adorable. But I wouldn't want you to force yourselves. Don't worry, I'll make sure that it pleases everyone."

The three young adults grit their teeth while clenching their fist. "Damn you, Goodwitch."

The ravenette turned to her computer as she began to setup everything she will meed for the class. "You should probably sit down, class is starting soon."

They did as asked and were soon joined by the members of team JNPR with Jaune sitting with team CRDL. Pyrrha greeted them with a smile before noticing their gloomy expression. "Did something happen with miss Rose again?" She listened as they explained the situation before giving them a confused look. "Couldn't she accompany us for the trip? She is a teacher after all."

Yang raised an eyebrow. "You think miss Goodwitch would allow that? She clearly hates Ruby."

Ren leaned forward to enter their line of sight. "What if she said that it was to avoid another incident like the one from the initiation?" He then adopted a pensive stance. "Although that wouldn't really allow you four to have a private picnic together, if any at all."

Weiss let out a defeated sigh. "Well, it's better than nothing I suppose."

"Really?" Intervened Nora leaning further than Ren. "Rumors has it that the food she makes is better than any chef in the world. I sure wouldn't pass that opportunity."

"It's not about the food, Nora." Said both Yang and Blake with a glare while the heiress nodded in agreement.

The ginger haired woman raised her hands in surrender. "Alright, alright. Jeez..."

Pyrrha clapped her hands together with a smile. "Why don't we ask miss Rose what she thinks after class?" When everyone seemed to agree, they turned towards the ravenette who was now ready to start the moment the bell would ring.

"You think that would be okay?" Ruby asked sitting at her desk once more while surrounded by her team and JNPR, Jaune excluded. "I feel like Glynda would refuse anyway."

"Then why not ask the headmaster?" Suggested Yang. "The outing's in the morning meaning our classes are canceled. That'd leave you with nothing to do anyway."

The drape wearer hesitated before pulling out her scroll. "Alright, I'll try that. No promises though." She took a couple of steps away from the students while she had her conversation with Ozpin.

"This feels kinda weird." Commented Nora while sitting on Ruby's desk with a hesitant expression.

Her friends gave her a curious look. "What do you mean?" Asked Pyrrha while crossing her arms casually.

The ginger rubbed the back of her neck. "Well, a couple of weeks back, we'd be all, I don't know, gloomy and stuff after her class? Now we're just lazing around her desk while asking her to come to tomorrow's field trip."

Blake glanced at her friends who seemed to let the hammer user's words sink in before stepping forward. "Not to sound heartless, but isn't that a good thing? The whole point of this class is to prepare us for... well, when it'll be our turn to do it."

Weiss nodded with a hand on her hips while raising a hand which she let hang loose gracefully. "Quite, and if we're going to be taking this class for four years, we can't just keep feeling down every time."

They all nodded, some more hesitantly than others. Ren and Yang had kept quiet, the latter lost in her own thoughts as she gazed at her sister. "You won't be alone anymore, Ruby. I'll be with you forever from now on."

The celebrity's call lasted longer than they would have thought, but they guessed that he must have asked her a couple of questions about her condition and how her classes were going. Once she hung up, she released an exhausted sigh which made them think that their plan failed, until she turned towards them with a smile. "Should I make sandwiches or different recipes?"

The first years were sitting in different Bullheads which recently left the grounds of Beacon towards their destination. Team RWBY, JNPR and CRDL were in the same craft as the two latter teams were staring at the first considering the... unique seating arrangements they had organized.

The older woman was sitting between the monochrome duo who were doing their best to get as close as possible to the happily humming ravenette who was cuddling her younger sister that had been forcefully sat in her sibling's lap while an intense blush adorned her face as she tried to ignore the stares of their fellow passengers. In the seat which had been reserved for the blond, sat two picnic baskets stacked on one another along with a travel bag on top of them. Ruby had been very careful to not let professor Goodwitch see her sneak them in while they were boarding their respective bullheads. Next to those, laid Ruby's weapon which visibly strained the seat's material under its weight.

"Uh, miss Rose?" Tentatively asked Jaune, sitting next to team CRDL. "If I may ask, why the picnic baskets?"

The silver-eyed woman raised an eyebrow before blinking. "Did your teammates not tell you anything since yesterday?"

He rubbed the back of his head awkwardly. While the people in question stared at him. "Well, we haven't been on the best of terms recently."

The celebrity's eyes traveled across the two teams before nodding. "I see. Well, I hope you'll manage to sort things through eventually. We can't have a team not cooperating with each other, much less their leader." The man nodded as tean CRDL chuckled mockingly. Ruby ignored it much to the other passenger's surprise, before snuggling into her sister's hair. "How have classes been?"

The brawler groaned as her blush darkened. "Seriously, sis? We're on a field trip, can we not talk about classes?" Her question was met with nods of approval coming from most of the others present.

"Well the only other thing I can think to talk about is some stories from when you were little." Pouted the ravenette which made Yang freeze in place.

"Absolutely not! You're not allowed to say anything to anyone about that!" Shouted the blond in panic while struggling in her sibling's grasp.

Ruby groaned as she buried her head in her sister's back. "Fine, but everyone's so quiet. Don't any of you have anything to say?"

Weiss leaned against the older woman's arms. "I think having someone who's technically a teacher here is what's putting them on edge, miss Rose."

Ren shook his head. "I'd say that it's more like we're not sure exactly what to say."

Pyrrha's face lit up as she pointed towards Crimson Harvest. "I was curious as to how your weapon works, actually. I have never seen anything that can replicate other weapons while also being able to have a unique form." This made everyone stare in interest at the silver-eyed woman, Yang excluded.

Ruby chuckled. "Ah, yes. I guess I did go a bit over the top when I made her." She said which had the onlookers shocked. "Unfortunately, if I told you exactly how she worked, I'd have to make sure none of you could ever share that information." The cold expression she had along with the menacing glare made them all freeze in terror. Fortunately, the tension was suddenly released when she laughed. "Come on! I'm not gonna tell you, but I wouldn't kill you if you knew! I was joking."

"That wasn't funny, Ruby." Growled Yang glaring at the woman from over her shoulder.

The ravenette's expression fell as she noticed the reaction she caused. "R-right. Sorry about that..." Her attention was stolen when the pilot told her that they were about to land. A moment of silence passed before a malicious grin adorned her face. "Oh! I seem to have brought too many things to transport all by lonesome. Would you be a dear and help me carry some?" This confused the students who stared at her before turning towards the pilot.

While they couldn't see his face, the tone of his voice made it obvious that he was flustered. "O-of course, m'am! Just tell me what to bring once we're landed."

As the door of the bullhead opened, one could notice that Ruby was carrying a picnic basket in each hands while her travel bag was strapped to her back. Glynda was too distracted as she gathered the students to notice the ravenette take out a rather large blanket from her travel bag and arrange it on the ground to allow at least a full team to sit down along with the baskets. The professor was about to make a speech when she caught sight of the celebrity's actions.

"What are you doing?!" She asked, tightly gripping her ridding crop as she glared at the silver-eyed woman.

Ruby feigned ignorance as she curiously stared at her colleague. "Setting a picnic? Wouldn't want the students to starve if we stay here for too long. Plus, it's a field trip. It'll be nice to enjoy some food together while we're here. A bonding experience, you could say." Most of the students chuckled at the ravenette's antics while the others nervously glanced at their teacher.

Glynda's patience had reached its limits as she raised her weapon, ready to send the woman's baskets flying, before lowering it once the strained voice of a pilot reached her ears. Turning towards it, she could see that he was struggling to carry Ruby's weapon with both hands as he approached the celebrity.

"Here you go, m'am." He groaned while bringing the object upwards towards the silver-eyed woman. "Gotta say, you must have packed a lot of things in there."

Ruby smiled at him as she picked her weapon by its handle with one hand before strapping it behind her back, shocking the man and any students who weren't aware of the object's weight beforehand. "You could say that, yeah." She then grabbed him by his chin and angled his head downwards. "Thank you for the help." She said before kissing his forehead. She always enjoyed how flustered people would get when she did that, never noticing that what had them stunned the most was the incredible view of her cleavage she would give them while doing so. The pilot marched back inside his aircraft without a word as Ruby turned back towards Glynda. "Where were we?"

The teacher's gaze went back and forth between the ravenette and the weapon on her back before sighing in defeat. "Did the headmaster know about this?"

Ruby placed her hands on her hips as she bucked them sideways in a mesmerizing fashion. "Well, he watched us leave. He'd probably have said something against it if he disagreed."

Green eyes closed as the woman took a deep breath before turning towards the students. "Miss Rose will explain your task for the day. It would seem that I have a call to make."

They watched her leave before turning towards the ravenette, who grinned while giving them two victory signs with her hands. "Alright! Who's ready to collect some sap!" She cheered which made most of them cheer in turn. "You only need to bring back a full jar to complete your assignment. Be careful though, this place may be beautiful, but it's not without its fair share of grimm. It doesn't help that they love the taste of the sap as much as we do, especially the ursas. Keep your weapons ready and you'll get to enjoy a nice picnic as soon as you're done!"

Once the students had left, Ruby went in the direction Glynda was last seen after making sure that her bag and baskets were secure. The teacher was still on her phone, arguing with Ozpin. "I understand why you allowed her to come, but her behavior is unacceptable! She is here as a teacher and should act accordingly!" She became silent as Ozpin talked which the ravenette unfortunately couldn't hear. "Of course the students are allowed to have fun. I don't see why-" The headmaster must have cut her off as she suddenly stopped her sentence. "I agree, but miss Rose-"

"Thinks we should have a talk." Interrupted Ruby, making Glynda notice her presence.

"Thank you for your time. It would seem that I am required elsewhere." Said the teacher as she hung up her scroll and pocketed it. "Miss Rose, spying on someone's phone call is rather rude."

The silver-eyed woman chuckled. "I think it's okay when it concerns yourself." She then motioned the blond to follow her with her head as she went back towards the rendezvous location, where her picnic had been set. "Come."

Once there, Ruby sat down on the blanket and gestured towards the empty space. "Sit, please." When Goodwitch crossed her arms with a raised eyebrow, the ravenette sighed. "I can always make you sit down." She threatened while slightly turning her back to put her weapon in the glasses wearer's sight line.

Glynda glared before sitting on the opposite side of the celebrity, who gave her a thankful smile as she opened one of the baskets. She then took out a couple of plates with premade sandwiches cut in triangles which she set down on the blanket. They remained in silence the whole time as Ruby emptied the first basket.

Once done, she exhaled before staring into her colleague's eyes. "I'm sorry that I'm not what you expected of me." Started the ravenette which took the professor by surprise.

"What do you-" Glynda tried to say before being cut off by the celebrity.

"I remember Ozpin saying that you were looking forward to have me as a student five years ago. I'm guessing that seeing me appear in the news with all the praises that came with them must have given you a rather different idea of me than what you've seen so far." Explained the ravenette as she filled two plastic cups with water. She then chuckled while picking them up before offering one to the blond. "I guess what I told you and Ozpin on the first day didn't help."

The professor's glare came back as she used her semblance to bring the cup to her hands. "Whatever gave you that idea?" She replied sarcastically.

"I'm not proud of the things I've done, miss Goodwitch, but I would do them all again if it meant coming back home to my family." Calmly followed the ravenette as she brought her cup to her lips.

"You could have stopped at anytime. Nothing would have changed if you did." Reprimanded Goodwitch as she did the same.

The pressure that Ruby released back in the interrogation room had reappeared as the ravenette glared at the struggling teacher. "It would seem that you didn't listen to everything back then after all. Sure, I could have stopped. I could have let those I killed take the lives of others, but if I did that, who would be here to hold them back? What would be enough of a reason to stop them from going with their little plan B?" She was met with silence as Glynda was focused on fighting against the pressure which caused the silver-eyed woman to release it, making the teacher pant in exhaustion. "What do you think will happen to me when this is all over?"

Goodwitch looked up at her with a curious expression. "What?"

Ruby looked around, making sure that no students were nearby and that the bullheads were closed. "Should I defeat this Salem, which seems to require a lot more power than what I currently possess, what will be left of me afterwards? What will I represent for those who will learn of this feat? Hope? The promise of a better future? Or will they be afraid, afraid of this one person who has to hold enough power to tople this world's greatest threat by herself?" She took another sip of her drink. "So I'll ask again, what do you think will happen to me afterwards?"

Glynda was lost for words, she and Ozpin had always been thinking about how to deal with Salem, time had shown that no objects or weapon would ever be able to achieve the desired result. It was only logical that the answer would come from a person, a hero who would be the polar opposite of her power, a silver-eyed warrior. After all, why else would Salem have them hunted down if not for the fact that they were a threat to her? Yet, never once did she think about what would happen to said person once it was all over.

"I... I don't know." Finally replied the teacher as she clutched her drink. "First Salem, then them. How is it even possible to hold on to faith when faced against such powerful foes?"

Ruby stared at her reflexion in her cup. "I have loved ones that I wish to protect. I want them to live a life of fun adventures and die of old age surrounded by those they cherished. How can any of this come true if I just gave up?" The two women stared at each other. "I don't know what will happen to me after Salem or how I am going to deal with the rest, but I will do it because it's what I must do. For now though, I was blessed with a little time to enjoy myself and I will use it until it runs out." Her expression darkened as she stared at the horizon. "Then, it's back to my usual business."

Glynda glanced downwards somewhat regretfully. "I'm... sorry, miss Rose."

The ravenette snapped out of her thoughts and gave her colleague a smile. "Oh, please. Call me Ruby."

The professor cleared her throat. "Ruby. I'm not afraid to admit that I'm getting rather old, though it still hurts to admit, but in all my years, I doubt to have seen as much as you have. I know that I've been harsh on you especially since your accident during the first week, but I have spent my life working for Ozpin and protecting the students of Beacon. Having someone with a history like yours... put me on edge as to how wise of a decision it was to keep you so close to them." She raised her head with a smile. "While the headmaster did try to make me understand, I guess what I really needed was to hear it from your mouth for it all to make sense to me. I cannot begin to comprehend the challenges that you will face, but I can try to help you through them while I'm here."

Ruby seemed stunned at the sudden change of attitude before giving a smile of her own as she unwrapped a plate of egg sandwiches. "Well, I don't know about you, but I think you're still gorgeous for someone who's 'old'." She then picked up a triangle and handed it to her. "I made them with a mayonnaise recipe from Haven. Best one I've tasted yet. Might as well indulge ourselves before the students come back, right?"

Glynda was shocked at how fast the silver-eyed woman had forgiven her and, honestly, at the compliment before taking the offered sandwich. She stared at it then back at the warm smile of the celebrity. The mere sight of it used to annoy her, she thought that it was merely the facade of a killer waiting to be let loose. Now? Now it was as if its warmth had managed to seep into her very core, melting away her worries and promising protection from pain. Snapping out of her daydreaming, the teacher looked away. "Just know that my door is opened should you need anything." She said before taking a bite out of her food, trying to ignore the rising heat on her face. "Who would have thought that a simple sandwich could taste so good?"

Yang looked at her two teammate's filled jars before sealing up her own. "Great! We did it. Let's go back now."

"Yang, your sister won't disappear if we're not fast enough. If anything, she'd probably come find us if we took too long." Commented Weiss as they headed towards the rendezvous point.

"Not that any of you would complain if she did." Teased Blake while reading her book. She had made sure that none of her fingers had touched the sap to avoid ruining her novel.

"As if you're one to talk." They both replied with a glare which only made the hidden faunus roll her eyes.

Minutes later, they could see the bullheads on the horizon which made them increase their pace, only to slow to a halt at the sight waiting for them. On the picnic blanket, sat both Ruby and professor Goodwitch next to each other as they joyfully exchanged stories and topics at one another, the three young adults even saw Glynda laugh which had been a massive shock. The ravenette noticed them before turning towards a campfire that they had set up at some point.

"You girls are just in time! I was about to finish cooking the blackberry-glazed chicken and start cooking some shrimp. I'm thinking about using grilling spices, but I'm opened to suggestions. What do you think?" Said the celebrity, bumping her colleague's shoulder with her behind at the last part which made the professor blush. Needless to say, Ruby's teammates were quick to notice.

"Seriously, Ruby?!" They thought in annoyance as they got closer. While they were glad that she managed to get on better terms with the teacher, making her crush on the ravenette was going slighty beyond their expectations.

Glynda cleared her throat as she tried to regain her composure in front of her students. "I'm sure that whatever you choose to use will end up great."

Ruby cooed while thanking her before gasping in shock as she dug into the second basket. "I can't believe I forgot about the nachos!"

The four women glanced at the blanket which had a good amount of plates with sandwiches along with the recent addition of the chicken.

"Uh, Rubes? Don't you think that you've made enough food already?" Yang asked as she sat at one of the remaining free spots on the blanket.

Ruby scoffed humorously. "My dear sister, are you forgetting that you have classmates? Plus, you tend to eat a lot at your age. I would know, I've been there." Glynda nodded at the last part before taking another sandwich triangle. "I knew you wouldn't be able to resist~" teased the silver-eyed woman before motioning her two other teammates to sit down. "Come on now, eat. There's plenty for everyone."

It wasn't until an hour later that other students came back. Unfortunately, the first group had been three students from team CRDL who were screaming about an ursa attacking their leader and Jaune. The three younger women of team RWBY stood up with their weapons at the ready, however they were stunned when the ravenette casually replied. "Is that so?" Before going back to cooking a fish she brought for Blake.

"What do you mean 'is that so'?!" Asked Yang in shock.

Ruby gazed towards her sister with a raised eyebrow. "It's only an ursa, right? If I remember correctly, I'm here in case of the appearance of more dangerous grimm. Plus, this is a school for huntsmen and huntresses. If these two can't take care of an ursa this late into the year..." Her expression darkened as she removed her tray from over the fire. "...then I don't know how they haven't been kicked out yet."

"You can't be serious?" Asked Blake with a glare.

"While miss Rose's words could have been chosen differently, she is not wrong to say that a single ursa would get the better of two students at the current stage of the year. Even if mister Arc's results are... less than adequate." Intervened Goodwitch while standing up. "Nevertheless, I still need to make sure to bring both of them back in one piece. If you'll excuse me." Before she could get too far, they were greeted by the sight of Jaune supporting Cardin as they walked towards them while the rest of team JNPR followed further behind. The older teacher sighed in a mix of relief and annoyance. "Looks like all is well that ends well. Though I'll still need to excuse myself to treat mister Winchester."

Ruby huffed in wonder as she stared at the approaching pair. "I guess mister Arc won't have to worry about CRDL any longer."

Weiss gave the ravenette a scrutinizing glance. "You knew that Jaune was being bullied and didn't do anything to help?"

The silver-eyed woman mirrored her expression. "Am I supposed to tie his shoes when the laces become undone? I don't condone bullying snowcone, but you guys should be old enough to deal with these problems yourself. Once again, especially since this is a school for huntsmen and huntresses." She then reached for her weapon as it quickly shifted into a powerful rifle which she shot into the forest. They then heard a monstrous scream which quickly died down. "That, however, you can leave to me."

Looking in the direction she shot in, they could see the feet of an unknown grimm which faded away. "W-what was that exactly?" Asked the heiress in worry which the surrounding students seemed to reciprocate.

Ruby shifted her weapon back into its compact form before waving the question off. "Nothing to worry your cute little heads about or that Glynda couldn't handle at least. Instead, why don't you all dig in? I have a surprise for dessert!"

As they ate, a thought came through the celebrity's teammates as they looked around. "This isn't nearly as romantic as I would've hoped." They suddenly leaned backwards when Ruby suddenly sat in between them.

"What has you girls looking so down?" She asked while taking Yang's plate from her and stealing bites from the various dishes in it. "Ooh, I'm good."

"Hey! Get your own plate!" Barked the brawler as she tried to get her food back unsuccessfully much to their classmates enjoyment.

The ravenette rolled her eyes before scooping some chicken which she shoved into her sister's mouth. "Here, why don't we share? I'll make you something else if you're still hungry once we're back at Beacon."

The monochrome duo stared in outrage while the blond was being fed by her sister with an ecstatic expression on her face. Blake stared into her plate in which sat a half eaten fish before timidly tugging on the silver-eyed woman's drape, gaining her attention. "I-if you want some. Y'know, since you cooked it and all." She stuttered while raising her dish towards her.

Ruby chuckled before cutting a piece with her fork which she promptly ate. She had a pensive expression as she chewed until her eyes widened in realization. "Don't you think this is missing some salt?"

The ashen-haired woman was stunned as her eyes darted between the fish and the woman eating it. "Uh, does it?"

The drape wearer reached into a basket and grabbed a salt shaker. She then cut a new piece of fish on which she added a light amount of salt before bringing her fork towards the younger woman. "Go on, tell me if you like it better like this."

Blake eagerly accepted the offer, restraining herself from purring at the incredible sensation of being fed fish from the woman she loved, before slowly chewing. "I guess it did need some salt." Ruby gave her a triumphant smile as she went back to her own plate.

Weiss had watched it all happen and felt dejected once she noticed that her serving had nothing unique which would allow her to ask for Ruby's attention. However, as if graced by god, the older woman turned back towards the heiress and leaned close to her ears. "Dessert is going to be a bit special and you most likely have never done something like that before, so we'll make them together okay? Don't worry about it." She whispered which sent shivers down the Schnee's spine, almost making her drop her plate. Ruby gently pinched the blue-eyed woman's chin before turning once more towards her sister, leaving a love-struck Weiss behind.

Yang, for her part, had been too caught up in her own little world in which only she and Ruby were sitting by the campfire, to notice that the ravenette had sometimes taken pauses to take care of their teammates.

Time passed and once every dish had been emptied, Ruby clapped her hands to bring attention to herself. "Okay, everyone! I hope you still have some space left in you for, drumrolls please..." She reached into a basket and took out a huge bag of marshmallows, an impressive amount of chocolate bars and a large box of graham crackers. "...smores!" Some students indulged the ravenette by cheering at the revelation.

Weiss, however had a lost expression as she stared at the three ingredients. "What?"

Blake and Yang gave her a curious look as the blond leaned towards the heiress. "You never heard of smores?"

When the white haired woman shook her head, comprehension dawned on the hidden faunus' face. "That's why she said you were going to do them together."

The brawler's eyes widened in shock as she leaned back. "She said what now?!" Her stupor was short lived when something swiftly hit the top of her head.

"I understand being passionate about a conversation, sunshine, but you could lower the volume a little bit." Reprimanded Ruby as she handed two metalic skewers at the monochrome duo.

She and Glynda had made a second fire to reduce the clutter that would have eventually happened before assigning themselves to one each to ensure the safety of the students and the forest. The ravenette sat down next to Weiss while setting a bowl with the various ingredients between the four of them. She then spent the next couple of minutes accompanying the heiress as she made her first smore. While it wasn't the best dessert she's ever had, the experience itself was enough to bring her joy as she snuggled against the silver-eyed woman.

Once out of supplies, both teachers stood up and instructed the students back into the bullheads before cleaning up the picnic area. Needless to say, the first years were quite disappointed that the fun was already over. "None of that now. I'm sure you guys will have plenty of opportunities for fun activities during the year, so cheer up and let's get back to Beacon." Said Ruby which had been enough to put a pep in their steps.

The ravenette and the blond teacher exchange a smile and a chuckle before entering their respective bullheads. Team RWBY's seating arrangement remained the same while jaune was back with his team as CRDL were minding their own business. Most of them had eaten so much that they were gradually falling asleep.

Ruby hugged her sleeping sister closer to her chest as her peaceful smile slowly fell. "To my usual business, huh...?" She mumbled in a somber tone, not realizing that her teammates had not quite fallen asleep yet.

I swear that next chapter will be back to the main story.
