Hello again!
Okay, I couldn't stop myself for writing this after I saw the spoilers!
Is a Kacchan's centric oneshot, so I hope you like it!^^
Just like "Deku" has always been Midoriya Izuku's nickname, "Kacchan" has always been Bakugou Katsuki's nickname.
Even if he remembered the exact moment when Midoriya Izuku became "Deku", Katsuki couldn't pinpoint when he became "Kacchan". Of his 17 years of life, he knew Izuku for 13 - Fuck! We have known each other for a lifetime! - and he can't think of a moment that he wasn't "Kacchan.".
His mother and father call him "Katsuki", his friends and classmates, teachers and pro heroes call him "Bakugou", but only Izuku uses "Kacchan".
Katsuki thought that during middle school Izuku would drop the nickname, they were 12, and the other kids started calling him either Katsuki or Bakugou, but no, Izuku kept using the nickname, no matter how badly he was treated by Katsuki.
Maybe Izuku thought that if he keep calling his childhood friend turned bully by that nickname, one day Bakugou would turned around and extend a hand so they could be friends again, or maybe Izuku just wanted a way to remember that "Kacchan", the small and amazing boy, one day existed.
This is ridiculous. Because Izuku knew better than anyone else that back at middle school, Katsuki was at the peek of being an asshole, always bullying Izuku, calling him names, shoving him at walls and the floor, burning his notes, and to top of all that, insinuating that Izuku was better dead because he was quirkless. What the fuck was wrong with his head back then?! He wanted to be a hero! So why, why did he do all that shit?!
He knows why now, but he had to enter U.A High to figure it out.
If someone thought that it was weird that two people that apparently get along really badly called each other by nicknames, one degrading and the other one kind of cute, no one never point it out.
Fucking Dunce Face sometimes calls him "Kacchan", just for the sake of fun, and that angers him to the point that he wanted to explode the electric quirk user's face. Besides Kaminari's idiocy, Izuku is the only one, again, that addresses Katsuki by the nickname. Hearing the "Kacchan this" and "Kacchan that" coming from the grenette's mouth doesn't trigger his anger like Fake Pikachu's, but he won't lie, is embarrassing.
The nickname is extremely childish, and sometimes when his thoughts go back for the summer training camp, and he remembers Mandalay, a pro hero, warning that the villains were aiming for 'a student named Kacchan', Katsuki feels his cheeks going hot and red in embarrassment.
But he never had the courage to say "Hey Shitty Nerd, stop calling me with this stupid nickname!", because he was sure that Izuku would stop calling him that, and Katsuki didn't know if he could keep himself from exploding if Izuku really starts calling him by his surname. Even after all the shit that he put Izuku trough, being called "Kacchan" was a reminiscing of a time when they were actual friends, a memory of when everything was alright.
However "Deku"...that nickname wasn't alright, but the nerd still chose it as his own hero name, because he wanted to change the meaning behind the old nickname to something positive. Somewhere in Katsuki's mind, a really dark and desolate place, he thought that in a twisted way, Izuku wanted to keep Katsuki's presence in his life, since in a not so distant future they may walk different paths.
He was still "Kacchan" and Izuku was still "Deku" when they fought after the provisional license test. They spilled all their feelings, thoughts and secrets that night, and by the time All Might walked them back to the dorms, the nickname "Deku" wasn't sitting so well anymore at the tip of his tongue.
Perhaps it was just his pride - as always - but even after realizing that "Deku" wasn't the useless Deku anymore, Katsuki kept the nickname. He started helping with Izuku's training. One For All was a complicated quirk, a lot of quirks to control, and almost no time to practice, since the League of Villains was still hidden somewhere, planning on how to destroy the hero society.
Of course Bakugou never said the word "help", he was out there training with Deku for the sole purpose of improving his own quirk, and kick the ass of the new OFA holder. The one that used that word was All Might, after Katsuki confessed that he did bully Izuku till recently because he couldn't understand why a quirkless child scared him so much. According to the 8th OFA user, Katsuki was doing it - helping Izuku train - as a way of redemption.
Then, the raid at the hospital happened, a lot of heroes died or were badly injured, and Shigaraki woke up, ready to destroy everything and everyone who tried to come in between him and his objectives. Read: come between him and the new One For One user.
Izuku somehow knew that Shigaraki was coming after him, so he left the evacuation area, and Katsuki tagged along.
"Why are you here, Kacchan?!" Izuku yelled when he finally realized that Katsuki was following him.
Never, never, Katsuki would admit that he was worried about the nerd, so he just said that he wanted to kick Shigaraki's ass as revenge for Kamino. He even got stabbed by Shigaraki/All For One, to protect Izuku who was almost at his limit. During that fight he announced his hero name for the world, Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight, but for Izuku, he was still Kacchan.
After that, he woke up in the hospital, and his shitty classmates turned friends, didn't let him see Izuku, who at the time was still in a coma. He had to go back to the dorms without seeing a glimpse of green hair. And then what? A few days later, he found a letter, a fucking letter under his room's door!
Kacchan.
Even in a letter, Izuku still called him "Kacchan".
Kacchan, thank you for helping with my training.
Kacchan, thank you for keeping OFA a secret.
Sorry Kacchan, but I have to leave U.A.
Kacchan, Kacchan, Kacchan!
For fucks sake! Katsuki would bring the idiot back and make him say all that shit writing in a letter -that probably All Might slipped under his door- to his face!
And so he did it, with all the Class 1-A help.
Everyone said a piece of their own minds, shared their feelings and reached him.
"Midoriya-san!"
"Midoriya!"
"Midoriya-kun!"
"Midoriya-chan!"
"Deku-kun!"
Katsuki did as well.
"I always looked down on you because you were quirkless. You were supposed to be beneath me…but I kept feeling like you were above me. I hated it. I couldn't bear to look at you. I couldn't accept the way you were. So I kept you at arm's length and was mean to you. I tried to act all superior by rejecting you…but I kept losing that fight."
Izuku stared at him in disbelief, because he probably didn't expect that. But if Katsuki was at Izuku's position, he wouldn't expect it either.
"Since we got into U.A…nothing's worked out how I thought it would. Instead, this past year forced me to understand your strengths and my weaknesses. I don't expect this to change a thing between us, but I gotta speak my truth."
He didn't know if Izuku would call him "Kacchan" ever again after that, but Katsuki didn't want to keep the nickname that he gave Izuku years ago. That's why he threw away his pride, and grew a spine, bowing his head and finally, finally, apologized for being an asshole…for 13 fucking years.
"I'm sorry for everything, Izuku."
Izuku collapsed in his arms after that, whispering an apologize for the things that he said while trying to run away from his friends. After that, they brought him back to U.A, and Uraraka made a damn good speech so Izuku could finally enter the school grounds to rest.
When Kirishima, Kaminari, Mineta and Ojiro dunked Izuku inside the ofurô Katsuki yelled at everyone and jumped inside the hot water as well. Tokoyami nagged him, but he just flipped the Bird Brain off.
He almost called Izuku "Deku", but he did set his mind to not do it anymore.
"You don't need to force yourself, Kacchan. 'Deku' is fine." The Shitty Nerd had the nerve to say.
"I'M NOT FORCING MYSELF!"
And he really wasn't, he wanted to call his childhood friend by his name again, because this was probably another step to rebuild their friendship. Katsuki would call Izuku by "Deku", only when the greenette was wearing a hero suit, apart from this only exception, Izuku was Izuku, and that's it. And somewhere in his heart, Katsuki was glad that he was still Kacchan, the image that Izuku connected with heroes, achievements and victory.
…
He died for a few minutes.
It was really difficult to register that he was still kicking because Edgeshot mended his organs, and for sheer luck, a small drop of his own sweat that was inside his body, exploded and restarted his heart.
He was saved by Edgeshot, and then saved All Might with Izuku's help. All Might gave him some kind of armor made of nano machines so he could still move the arm that Shigaraki broke.
Being called by his hero name, by the hero that he had always admired was a blast. Being given the armor -even if that wasn't working anymore- used by said hero, was another blast. Katsuki smiled. All Might was looking and acknowledging him, Bakugou Katsuki, as a hero.
The hero that would be the final boss for AFO.
No way in hell that Katsuki would let AFO reach to the place where Izuku was still fighting Shigaraki, after all, he promised that he would be the guy who steps in when the nerd can't handle it all on his own.
AFO was growing more agitated, every hit he took from Katsuki's explosions made his expression become angrier and desperate.
"IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT, KUDOU!" All For One yelled at some point.
Katsuki didn't know who the hell was this "Kudou", an ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend? Hah, as if someone like AFO had ever had a lover! If AFO had a lover at some point in his fucking long life, Katsuki should be married to Izuku right now. But anyway, apparently, All For One reached a point where past and present were mixing in his mind, and that was probably good.
A feral smile appeared on Katsuki's lip.
"Are you finally going senile?!" Katsuki yelled back at the villain.
The first kanji for his name, "Katsu", means victory, while the second kanji was the same one to his mother's name, but right now - Sorry old hag. - right now the name that means victory for him was…
"I'm Kacchan of the Bakugou's, idiot!"
Yeah. It sounded right. The name that Izuku gave him sounded like victory.
I don't know what do you guys think about this, I mean, Bakugou had the chance to spread his hero name, but he choose to say "I'm Kacchan of the Bakugou's!"!
Isn't it rather romantic in a way?
He finally acknowledged the nickname that Izuku gave him! And I just love it!^/^
Well, thanks for reading the oneshot, and sorry for possible grammar errors, english is not my mother language and I was really hyped while writing the oneshot.^^''
See you!
