This chapter is intended to be the start of a series I'm working on for Luminescence (Lumi). It takes place in the world she travels to and I'm so excited to finish it piece by piece and share it here! Hope you enjoy and feel free to leave any feedback or suggest a new character's story.

Starlight paced in the kitchen while Sunburst shuffled through the shelved books, frantically looking for something that would help. He pulled three off the shelf, read their titles, and put them back in their place. He took three more, read the titles, and put them back. He repeated this while Starlight continued to pace in the kitchen, her mind racing trying to process what had happened while searching her mind for answers.

"Where could she have gone?" Starlight asked.

"I don't know." Sunburst said, half paying attention to her while re-shelving a spell book.

"Which spell did she use?" She thought of nearly all the spells she knew, but none of them sounded right.

"I'm not sure," Sunburst replied as he shelved three more books. "It very well could've been a combination spell." He groaned in frustration and threw the last book across the room. He heard nothing from the kitchen, even the pacing had stopped. He looked over and saw Starlight staring at the floor in front of her.

"I'm sorry," he sighed as he walked over to her. "I didn't mean to upset you, I'm just frustrated." He glared at the wall of books. "All these spells and books and none of them are even close to helpful."

He looked back at her, but she was still staring at the floor, speechless as tears welled up in her eyes. "Starlight?" He sat next to her and brushed her curly mane out of her face.

She slowly met his gaze, her eyes full of fear and grief. "We may... never see our daughter again." She choked on her words, barely even able to get them out. Her words hung in the air as if suspended on a wire, tightening the air around them. Sunburst wrapped his hooves around her and pulled her into an embrace as she wept.

"I'm glad you wrote to me, though I wish it was under better circumstances." The gray stallion said. "It looks like she used several spells combined to transport herself somewhere. The question is... where. And which spells." He stroked his beard as he examined the spotless room.

"I've looked through every one of my spell books and couldn't find anything close to this kind of magic." Sunburst explained from the doorway. "I hoped asking someone more versed in older spells might help."

"Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but this is unlike any kind of magic I've seen. Even the portal to the human world is still yet to be understood." He looked through the books on the shelves, but found nothing out of the ordinary. "Perhaps there is one other creature, even older than myself, that might be of more help." He took a scroll from off the nearby desk and began writing a letter.

"But, you're Starswirl!" Sunburst exclaimed in disbelief. "The greatest wizard in pony history! Who else could possibly know more about magic than you?" Starswirl signed the letter and sent it off with a teleportation spell, hoping he was right.

With an audible *pop*, a familiar draconequus appeared before them. "Finally! Someone asks for my assistance in the use of powerful magic!" Discord exclaimed, clapping excitedly. "So Starswirl, why have you called me here?"

"Lumi used a powerful spell to teleport herself to Celestia-knows-where." Sunburst explained. "We don't know what kind of spell she used and we don't know where she is."

Discord walked around the room, examining everything. As he walked through the center of the room, a cold shiver ran down his spine, making his whole body quiver.

"Hmm, this is powerful magic indeed." He pondered, his brow furrowed. "Have you tried a tracking spell?" He asked Sunburst.

"Well, yes but-" he was cut off by the snap of Discord's claws. One of the necklaces from the desk lifted itself and floated to the middle of the room, levitating in one spot.

Discord pulled the necklace out of the air and it fell limp. He set it on the desk and noticed a collection of other necklaces.

"Your daughter has quite the collection of necklaces." Discord noted. "Does she have a favorite?"

Sunburst nodded and pointed to the framed picture on the desk. It showed Starlight, Sunburst, and their daughter, Luminescence, standing front and center, a huge smile on her face. Discord looked closely at the necklace the filly was wearing. "We haven't been able to find it since she... disappeared." Sunburst said somberly.

"That's it!" Discord exclaimed. "The pendant. It must've been used as a talisman to amplify the spell. Anything as simple as a transformation or teleportation spell would be amplified beyond the user's natural ability." He circled around the center of the room, thinking.

"O-okay, so we know how she was able to cast such an advanced spell, but how does that help us find her?" Sunburst asked.

Discord raised an eyebrow at the question and faced Sunburst. "There are an infinite number of worlds she could've re-appeared in. Infinite. Do you realize how long it would take just to search every single world one-by-one?!"

"There must be some way to at least narrow down the possibilities," Starswirl said, stroking his beard. "How many times can the tracking enchantment be used on one object?" They all glanced at the necklaces on the desk.

"I don't know if there's a limit." Discord replied. "Besides, using a spell in a world without magic could have serious consequences. Introducing magic to the Mirror world nearly destroyed both that world and this one." Sunburst's eyes widened, remembering the rips opening as the two realities began to merge closer to each other.

They thought in silence when a buzzing sound drew their attention to the bed frame. Discord followed the sound behind the headboard, reached his claw down and pulled up a vibrating book. The only thing on the cover was an engraving of the same symbol as the talisman Lumi was wearing in the photo on her nightstand. It vibrated in his claw until he opened it. He began reading what was written on the first page. "It's a spell." He explained out loud. "I've seen this before. In a book Sunset Shimmer shared with Celestia and then Twilight. I think it's still in the castle library... somewhere." He trailed off as he continued onto the next pages.

He suddenly stopped on one page about halfway through the book. The color drained from his face as his brows furrowed. His jaw slowly fell open as he continued to scan the page. Sunburst stepped forward. "What? What is it?" He asked, becoming more concerned. Discord's mouth drew back in a snarl. He hissed and threw the book on the bed before pacing around the room, hissing periodically. Sunburst rushed over to the bed and picked up the book, flipping through the pages until he came upon the page that had upset Discord.

There was a moment of silence as Sunburst processed what he was looking at. "Oh my…" he said, barely audible.

"What is it?!" Starlight raised her voice, becoming impatient.

Discord whipped around to face her. "Dark! Magic!" He growled, his eyes glowing red. Starlight recoiled at his reaction.

"W-what?" She stammered. "D-dark magic? But… but she- she wouldn't." Starlight struggled to find the words. "No." She shook her head. "There's no way." She went to where Sunburst was still reading the pages and saw the symbols for herself. Her eyes scanned the multitude of notes, symbols and items needed to perform a trans-dimensional transportation spell.

Sunburst turned the page and continued reading while Sunburst sat next to the bed and stared at the floor. When she flipped to the next page, there were four columns of calculations and equations. In the middle of the right page were three numbers. A name was written below the three numbers; "Unora".
