Chapter Four
A Weekend Away
A/N – Ok time for the next chapter. Life continues to move on, and Amy and Ty have a chance to go to Banff for the weekend. Sounds easy, maybe not. Some Mature content.
Amy was giddy. They had been invited to do a clinic in Banff and were going to be staying at the romantic Banff Resort. Clinics were a way for them to promote their business, share their skills to the attendees and in this case be away for some alone time. They loved their kids deeply but some time away was always welcomed. They had a few weeks to prepare. The kids would still be in school, but they would be leaving early on Friday and not returning until Monday evening. Most clinics they had done were close enough to bring the kids and didn't need an overnight stay. The few that didn't Amy would do on her own so Ty could manage the herd while she was gone. But this was different. It was the first time they were going together, all expenses paid for 4 days and 3 nights – alone!
Life on the Miracle ranch was moving along nicely, School and chores for the kids, work for Ty and Amy, the horses, it was all good. Lyndy's 5th grade dance was coming this weekend and she was nervous. Amy and Lyndy had many conversations about it and Amy said to her, "Everything is going to be fine. You will be with your friends, and he will be with him. When he asks you to dance be polite? Did Aunt Lou give you a dance lesson yet? She did a great job with Ty. "She did mom," Lyndy huffed "And she said I was a better student than him." "Well, that's not saying much but don't tell him I said that" joked Amy. They continued to giggle in their hushed conversation and Lyndy felt much more confident.
"So, mom this trip, you are going right?" Lyndy questioned. "Well, we really want to. It would be good for business and having some time with your dad would be nice" she blushed. "Oh, mom don't be so weird, I understand what you mean. Maybe I'll get a little brother or sister out of it!", she laughed. Amy was amazed at the level of maturity of her almost 11-year-old – well beyond her years. "So', Amy asked, "Do you want another family member?' "That would be cool." She answered. They were interrupted by Maddie. "You are going on the trip, right mom? You and dad will have so much fun. Don't worry about us we will be fine. We will miss you, but you won't be gone long" she babbled. Amy hugged her to get her to stop talking and told her she was pretty sure they were going to do it. "We just need to get things organized here. I am going to need you to step it up and keep the twins in line." Maddie gave a thumbs up and ran to her dad who was working on the Norton.
The dance was a big success and Lyndy got her dance with Wyatt, actually three of them. She was on cloud nine and her and Wyatt were the talk of the 5th grade. Walking down the hall with a couple of her friends she heard a yelp from behind. "So, I hear somebody has a boyfriend," Alyson said with disgust. A loud number of gasps came from the crowd. Lyndy gathered her composure and said, "Wyatt and I are good friends and we both had a lot of fun at the dance with our friends and each other. I like him a lot and we both respect each other. Of course, you wouldn't understand that now would you Alyson." Alyson looked shocked because no one had ever had anyone challenge her. Rather that try to respond in a mature matter she stamped her feet and walked away saying "Whatever!" Everyone laughed and carried on.
It was the weekend before Amy and Ty were leaving. All the arrangements were made. The twins and Maddie would be staying at GG and Lisa's house. Lyndy would stay with Georgie and Steven and even Katie was going to stay as well in the loft. "Poor Steven," Ty laughed. They were going to bring their horses so they could ride over to the ranch to check on the horses and the property for morning and evening feeding. The put Lyndy in charge but secretly aske Georgia to keep an eye on everything. Amy notified all of her clients giving them Georgie's number and Ty did the same using Steven. All the stars were aligned, everything was covered, and Amy and Ty were really excited, not only for the clinic which was fully booked but for their time alone.
On Monday while the kids were at school Amy got a call from the nurse. Addie had slipped at recess and had cut her forehead. The nurse assured her it was just a cut but since she had bled, she had to come home. The kids had their share of bumps and bruises, so Amy was not that alarmed. Luckily Ty was closer, so he went and got Addie. When he arrived, she complained, "I don't know why they called, I am fine." looking at the nurse. Her dad calmly said, "The rule is if you bleed, we have to get you, so thank the nurse. I am going to take you to the clinic for a half hour and then we will go home." On the way-out Ty talked to Lyndy's last hour teacher to let her know that Addie would not be on the bus.
But the fun was only starting. The girls went on a ride Wednesday after school while Amy and Ty were wrapping up in the barn office. Suddenly they heard rapid hoof beats approaching and Annie yelling for them. "Mom, Dad, Lyndy fell off her horse and is hurt, you have to hurry." Amy and Ty tried to control their concern for Annie, so Amy said, "Calm down, let dad and I tack up some horses and follow you, where is she and is she conscious?" Annie replied, "Up by the old jumping course. She was jumping and something spooked Sundance and she tried but couldn't hold on. She is awake but she said her leg and head hurts." "Well, how about I take your horse and go there now, then you and mom can follow," Ty reasoned. He took off and 5 minutes later Amy and Annie were heading out at a gallop with Blaze and Triumph. She figured they would bring their younger horses in case it got too difficult a ride.
When Ty arrived, she saw Lyndy laying against a log with Addie and Maddie hovering over her. He jumped off the horse and trotted over, the girls gave him some room and Lyndy tearfully looked at him, "I'm sorry Daddy, I couldn't stay on when Sundance reared. It was stupid. My head and leg hurt but I am OK." Maddie blurted out, "No Daddy she was knocked out for a minute or so and he leg looks weird." Ty calmly said, "Lyndy this is just an accident so let me look you over. Addie why don't you tie down the horses and Maddie get me some water from the saddle bags. Ok Lyndy lets look you over and thanks for being so calm and not scaring your sisters." "Ok you caught me, I think my leg it broken, and my head really hurts. It really, really hurts daddy," she whimpered making sure the girls didn't hear her. Ty looked the leg over and saw that is did look like there may be a fracture. He repositioned it to make Lyndy more comfortable, but it did hurt her a little when he did it. "Sorry honey," he said with remorse. He then looked over the cut, using some of the water to clen it out. It wasn't too bad but would need a few stitches and a bump was already forming. As he finished, he heard hoof beats and saw Amy and Annie approaching. "Hey" Amy said and dismounted quickly grabbing the medical kit. "I thought you might need this." She ran to her daughter and hugged her lightly making sure she stayed away from her leg. "How are you doing baby, are you OK. Where does it hurt," as tears ran down her cheeks. Trying to downplay it she said, "Mom I am ok and am feeling better already. This was all my fault, and I am sorry. No matter what don't' cancel your trip. I will be fine," she reasoned. Amy smiled down at her oldest child amazed at her maturity and the fact that she was more worried about their trip than her injuries.
Ty interrupted with a plan of attack, "Ok I am going to splint this leg and then once she is stable, I will put her on a horse with you Amy and we will ride back to the farm. Addie, I need you to pony Sundance. Then girls you need to get all the horses settled and we will have Katie, Lou or Georgie come to be with you at the house while we take Lyndy to the hospital." "But daddy, I want to go too," Maddie pleaded. Before he answered Addie and Annie said, "Thas ok mom and dad we can take care of everything, and Maddie can go with you." Addie in a whisper said, "To be honest it might be better because she will drive us crazy!" Amy and Ty agreed so on the way back, Amy called Lou to let he know the plan. She said she would get with the girls and they would meet you at the house with her jeep and bring the girls back to Heartland.
When they got to the hospital, they saw them right away. About two hours later they pulled up to Heartland with a casted and bandaged Lyndy. Everyone ran out to meet them – kind of a Heartland thing. Much to her displeasure, Ty lifted Lyndy up and carried her into the house. "Dad, I am not an invalid" she complained. Ty looked at Amy and said, "You are your mother. With you head and leg injury you need to rest. Tomorrow if you feel better, you can be more mobile but up until then I am your chariot." " Fine, I am hungry!" she proclaimed. Lou immediately spoke up, "Well good because donner will be ready in 10 minutes. Girls bring out the extra table and chairs and set the table, Steven and Georgie help Lisa and I dish up the food. Amy, Ty, and Grandpa, you are on Lyndy duty." Dinner was great but Amy and Ty noticed that Lyndy was starting to fade. Amy spoke up and said, "Well we are going to get this one home. Girls do you want to stay here or come with us?" Of course, Maddie wanted to go with them. Her bond with Lyndy was special. The twins decided to stay with Katie so she could help them with some homework and give Lyndy some apace. They figured Maddie would be her private nurse. Everyone went their way and had a restful night.
On Thursday, everything went as normal as it could except that Amy and Ty made Lyndy stay home. After some bartering, she convinces them that she had to go to school on Friday because she had two tests. What she didn't say was that she wanted to see Wyatt, although she expected her mom new. She still had the dance in her thoughts and didn't want to be away too long. On Friday, the plan was that Amy and Ty would pack up the SUV, it was GMC Tahoe that was big enough for them to fit. They would take the kids to school to let the teachers know that they would be out of town and that Lyndy would need some help navigating with their crutches. There was a bonus for Lyndy, Wyatt volunteered to carry her books for her, so her teacher gave him a pass to be with her between all of her classes. Her stomach fluttered when she found out and couldn't wait to talk to her mom about it when she got back. Although Lyndy didn't have a cell phone, Amy and Ty had an extra "family" phone they let her have as well for the weekend with clear instructions on how she should use it. Amy and Ty had decided early on the cell phone would not happen until each girl started high school.
So, after the drop off, Amy and Ty were on their way. They both had huge smiles as the drove away and held hands the entire trip, except when Ty needed to focus on the road. When they arrived, they jumped out of the car, hugged, and headed to check in. The bellman grabbed their bags and took to them to their suite, which took their breath away. It was a big as the main floor of their house with a living room, small kitchenette, a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi bath and enormous bedroom with a huge king size bed. Off the bedroom was a private deck with a beautiful view of the mountains. They had been here before but not in a room like this. As the bellman walked them around, they were each thinking of the romantic opportunities they had to look forward to. Ty tipped the bellman and when the door closed Amy jumped into Ty's arm. "So, it is 11:00am and we have to meet with the clinic folks at 1:00pm. Should we go get lunch or order room service and play a little." She seductively said. They quickly ordered lunch and laid their bags out. After the lunch arrived and the server left Ty picked Amy up and took her to the bedroom. " I figure with eating and everything we have an hour and a half." Ty whispered. "Well, that gives up 15 minute to eat lunch!" she smiled. Like teenagers the quickly disrobed each other and started kissing and touching each other. Obviously, they knew exactly how to please each other based on the moans and breathless saying of each other's names. It was not rushed but completely fulfilling for both. The each reached their climax together and laid there panting and a little heated. Amy glanced at her phone and said while blushing, "Well done Dr Borden, I think we can even get a quick shower in, eat and get down there on time," "Well you had a part in that to," he blushed. The decided to shower together quickly, which was challenge, ate and headed down to the arena.
They walked up arm in arm and saw the clinic sponsor, Cliff Garrett. "Cliff its so god to see you,' The responded together. "Likewise, Amy and Ty, I have to say there is quite a buzz about your clinic, we even had to turn people away." He bragged. "If this goes well who knows what it can turn into for both of us. Is your room satisfactory? If you need anything, Jessice, my assistant will help you. Let me introduce you to her and the other sponsor of the clinic." When they walked over Amy and Ty couldn't believe who it was. Cliff said, "Amy and Ty this is Jessaca Sanders my assistant and my co-sponsor, Chase Powers. I believe you all know each other." Chase confidentially said, Miracle Girl it is great to see you and Tom again, I can't wait to work with you, just like old times." "First of all, its Ty, my husband and father of our 4 children. Secondly, I can't say the same, Cliff we need to talk privately," she said in earnest.
Cliff and Jessica immediately felt the tenson, so she took Chase back to continue their discussion and Cliff shuttled a tense Amy and Ty to his office. Once they sat down, he tentatively asked, "So what is the story with Mr. Powers and you guys." Amy was to upset so Ty responded while holding her tight, "Years ago Amy was up against him in the "Ring of Fire" that Amy won. They went on tour with others and Chase felt as though they connected and were meant for each other. Later he coerced Amy into doing a clinic and a few years helping his wife learn how to ride. Also, while we were not together, she was involved with a legal issue, while he had her breaking his horses that he sold to clients. When the legal issue started to look bad for him, he pulled all the work from her."
He glanced over to Amy to see if it was OK to get into the real reasons why she hates him. She looked up to him and without saying a word, her eyes told him it was Ok. He kissed her forehead and continued to provide more detail. "Cliff, the real issue is that after the clinic Chase kissed Amy unexpectedly. That kiss along with some other challenges broke us up for a few months. It was a difficult time for us, but we got through it. He showed up again right before I proposed to Amy with his wife. He coerced her to give his wife reigning lessons. When I was helping get her horse out, he told me that I better ask her to marry me soon or someone else would. While Amy was showing something to his wife he jumped up on the horse with Amy and yelled, 'Chase and the Miracle Girl' back together again. His wife was livid because she didn't know about them working together. To save his butt he blamed Amy for the whole issue saying that she still had a thing for him and that was just part of the business. So, the classes stopped, and we thought we were done with it.
The next day, Chase came to pick up her horse and told Amy he was confident she still had a thing for him. She adamantly declined and before she could stop him, he kissed her again. She reared back and slapped him hard across the face. Later at my trailer she lowered her head and said she had something to tell me. I said what Chase tried to kiss you again, I saw the whole thing, especially when you smacked him. She tried to apologize, and I stopped her and told her that I was confident you to care of things. She smiled and said you bet I did."
After a few seconds Cliff caught his breath and Ty hugged a sobbing Amy harder, pulling her into his chest. Cliff confidently said, "Well I can promise you after that story my dealings with Chase Powers will stop, I never liked him anyway. He is a minority partner in this so once this is over, we will cut ties. In the meantime, I will tell him he is not allowed to be here for any of the clinic. You have my word" After a few seconds Amy timidly said, "I don't want to mess things up, but I do appreciate it. I can't be around him; he repulses me, and I don't need the pressure on us." "It is not a problem at all you guys. And if you want, we can reschedule the meet and great along with the dinner this evening," Cliff offered. "No, we are committed, although I wouldn't mind laying down for a bit," Amy asked. "Sounds like a plan, see you at 5:00," Cliff confirmed.
After a good nap in Ty's arms Amy felt much better and was looking forward to the evening. Talking horses and standing next to her husband was what she lived for. They got to the meet and greet a little early to go over the itinerary with Cliff and Jessica. By request Amy was in her fancy western wear. A pair of powder blue denims (Ty's favorite), her not work cowboy boots that had a nice belt and roping belt buckle she won years ago, her favorite red flannel with cowgirl stitching and finally her nice black cowboy hat. Amy never wore makeup, but she did have light layer of mascara on. When she walked out Ty froze in his place and said, "My god you are so beautiful, you better stay close all night." She also looked him over and smiled, "you look really hot and sexy as well." Ty had a pair of dark jeans, black boots, a green dress shirt and dark sport coat. He posed for her and laughed at her comment. "You always say that , if I didn't know any better I would thing that you fancy me and may want a dance later." She pondered her response and said, "maybe a little more than a dance."
The evening was great especially with the whole Chase thing behind them. They both gushed when someone would approach the other person and ask questions. They had always wanted to do this and seeing it come to fruition was a dream come to. The said good night to Cliff and Jessica, confirming the start time tomorrow. They walked up to their room arm in arm and as soon as they closed the door behind them the jumped into each other's arms for a deep, passionate kiss. Their night was just beginning.
The next morning, although they didn't get the amount of sleep they would have liked, Ty and Amy were ready to go. Took a quick shower and started getting dressed for the day. Amy yawned heavily and Ty said, "What's wrong Miracle Girl a little tired." He stopped in his tracks hoping that what he said didn't bring back memories of yesterday. She confidently said to him, "Ty I know what you are thinking, and all is well. I am tired, I mean come on three times in one night! A girl can handle only so much from the studly Dr Borden." Ty puffed out his chest out and replied, "Studly hey." She rolled her eyes and joked, "Get over yourself."
The clinic was amazing. Although they weren't together all the time, they did get to peak in on what the other was doing. Cliff has set up 4 time periods where they answer questions together since what the each did individually impacted what the other did. They really enjoyed that time together and their vibe and connection was evident to everyone there. Jessica gushed, "You two are the poster couple for marriage, working together and family. I can't tell you how many positive comments I have gotten from the attendees. You two rock!" Well, they both blushed and simultaneously said it's all him/her pointing at each other. Cliff laughed out loud, "OMG you two kill me."
That night, the next day and next night were just as magical. Professionally it was one of the most rewarding clinics they had ever did. Romantically they felt like teenagers, sneaking away on a trip without their parents knowing. Amy and Ty were close, but this weekend drew them even closer. By Monday morning when they slept in, they woke up facing each other. Ty said, "Don't take this the wrong way but I can't wait to get home. If this lasted any longer, I think you would have killed me." "Agreed," Amy sighed, "but I got to say you outdid yourself. I really thought we knew everything about each other – intimately, but this weekend, Wow. I really don't think I have ever loved you more that I do right now." After the made their morning call home they got ready, packed up and went downstairs for the end of clinic debrief. Cliff and Jessica were pumped and couldn't wait to schedule another clinic with them. Amy and Ty were excited, but they smiled at each other, squeezing each other's thigh, wondering if they would survive the afterhours activities. They got in the truck and headed home to their kids, who they really missed.
