A Summer to Remember – Part Two

A/N - That was a fun chapter to write. Now I will get into more summer fun which will have its ups and downs. Hold on its going to be a whirlwind of activity. Enjoy. Mild Mature content.

Well with the baby news bouncing around all of Hudson, the family was now focused on a lot of changes on the farm and at Heartland. School was over and construction was well underway. After looking over the plans, it was decided to also add 6 more stalls to Heartland and an indoor ring at the Miracle Ranch. With the news of the expansion of the Miracle Ranch Equine Center, request for their services were coming in from all over Alberta, neighboring provinces, and the northwestern US. There was even a plan to add a few additional cabins to the Dude ranch for all the out-of-town clients. All the construction was going to be done in less than a month, So Amy, Ty and Lou were filling up the calendar. Business was booming.

Amy's first trimester was going ok. She was sicker than she had been with the girls but nothing that alarmed her. As she laid next to Ty one morning, she felt an odd pain. She didn't think it was a big deal and went to take her shower. She was humming with her eyes closed when she felt the pain again, doubling over she saw blood coming down her legs. She screamed, "Ty are you awake I need you." Ty who was just waking up jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom seeing his wife double over laying in the shower. Lyndy heard the scream as well and ran into the bedroom to see what was happening. She gasps when she saw the scene and cried out, 'Mom, Dad what is happening."

She saw her parents talking quietly and her dad looked up and said calmly, "Honey, I need you to make sure the girls don't come in here and then I need you to call 911. Lyndy everything is going to be OK, but I need you to help." She calmed a bit and looked at her mom who smiled feebly at her. Reassured she woke the twins and told them to wake Maddie and go into the kitchen. She then called the 911 operator, " Hi, my name is Lyndy Borden at the Miracle Ranch, and we need an ambulance. My mom is in her first trimester, and something is wrong, she is bleeding. My dad is with her and ask me to call." The operator confirmed the information and said that the ambulance was on the way and would be there in 15 minutes. She then said, "Ms. Borden your parents should be proud of you, your really did well and kept calm, Honey, I know you are scared but I am sure everything will be OK."

Lyndy with a new sense of purpose went back to her parent's bedroom. Her mom was laying on the bed and her dad was rubbing her back and talking softly. She timidly spoke up, "Daddy I called, and the ambulance will be here in 15 minutes. I will go talk to the girls and calm them; I know they are worried. I will go wait for the ambulance and bring them up here. If is OK I called Lou and Georgie too, I am sure they will come over and help." Amy motioned for her to come over and gave her a hug, "Thanks Lyndy, you are amazing, and I love you." Lyndy didn't' say anything just gingerly hugged her back. "Honey, why don't you stay with your mom, and I will go see the girls and wait for the ambulance. Ty asked her, "Only if you are ok with it" Amy held on to her and without saying anything wanted her to stay as well. Lyndy said, "Of course I will" and took her dad's position on the bed. She reminded her dad that Lou and George were on the way, and she expected others.

When the ambulance arrived so did Lou, Georgie, Jack, and Lisa. Ty took the paramedics up to the bedroom and Lyndy stepped aside and started to leave. Amy looked at her and said, "No Lyndy, I want you to stay." The paramedics got her mom comfortable and did some work on her. Once they were done, they loaded her mom onto a stretcher and took her down the steps toward the ambulance. As they went through the kitchen Amy took her oxygen mask off and motioned to the girls to come over. They quietly went over to their mother and kissed her gently. She looked right in their eyes and said, "Mommy is going to be ok and so is our little Nugget. We just have to go and see what is going on. I need you three to be strong and be big girls for mommy. As soon as possible you can come see me if I don't some home later." Maddie started crying and the twins pulled her into their arms. She held her mom's hand and said softly, "OK Mommy we love you and our little Nugget. You will be OK, I know it." At this time everyone was crying.

As they loaded Amy into to the ambulance Ty jumped in after a quick conversation with Lou and Georgie. Amy looked at him and said, "Lyndy." He completely understood and motioned to Lyndy to get on the ambulance with them. She was surprised but joined him. The ambulance took off and Ty and Lyndy collapsed in each other's arms. Amy was dozing off as the paramedic had given her something to relax. When they noticed that she was sleeping, their defenses came down and the tears flowed as they assured each other that everything was going to be ok. As they held each other Ty looked at his wife and smiled as he was again witness to how amazing their oldest daughter was. Just like her mom.

As soon as they arrived, Amy was carted into the ER. Ty and Lyndy stayed with her until the nurse asked them to step out so they could do a more thorough exam. Ty was happy because an 11-year-old shouldn't see what they were going to do. They sat close together in the waiting room leaning on each other for support. Ty updated Lou and Georgie as they waited. He looked over to his daughter and asked, "How are you doing. I know this is hard for you, but I can't tell you how proud we are of you." "Well, how are you doing dad, I mean you and mom are the two closest people I have ever seen. I can only imagine what this is doing to you," she asked with sincere concern. Ty looked at his daughter with complete love, "Well honey I will not lie, this has rocked me. Your mom is the love of my life and although she has had things happen to her before it still hurts. But I have faith that everything will be ok. Your mom has a lot of people that love her and that will help her get past this. No matter what happens she will need us, all of us." They sat silently supporting each other. Ty closed his eyes and was startled when they heard, "Are you here with Amy Borden?"

"First off your wife is fine. Sometimes with a pregnancy, especially one where there are previous births," Smiling at Lyndy," there is a chance of some cramping and bleeding. That is what she is experiencing. I have to ask, what does Mrs. Borden do, isn't she the Miracle Girl?" Ty Smiled and said, "Yes and we run a horse rehab center and she works with horses every day. We have been really busy because we have expanded the business." "Well," the doctor said, "She may have to consider limiting what she does with the horses. With this being her 4th pregnancy and with the fact that she is in her mid-30s the physical stress of her job may be too much." Lyndy looked at her dad and laughed, "Well doc, if you knew my mom you would understand why we are laughing. Bubble Wrapping her is not an option. But we will make sure she is safer. She has a lot of support." "Ok, well she is stabilized and should be able to go home in a couple of hours. And you can go see her. I have left her a prescription for the cramping, but I need your word that you will keep her under control." They smiled, thanked the doctor, and headed in to see Amy.

A few weeks had passed. Amy was feeling much better and the family were all making sure she was toning it down a bit. Of course, she was not happy but one day something happened that made her realize how important that she take care of herself. She was bringing a horse in that she was working with when the horse acted up and pulled her a little forward. She was able to bring the horse under control with a little help from Annie. The #1 rule was that Amy always had someone with her. What she didn't know that there was another witness to the event.

She sat down in the office to enter some journal notes when she heard some sniffling coming from under Ty's desk. She got up and saw Maddie curled up in a fetal position sobbing and trying to catch her breath. She immediately sat down to hug her and said, "Sweetie, what's wrong are you hurt. Did something happen to upset you?" She was very concerned as she pulled her up into her arms and hugged her tight. "It's ok talk to me honey, tell me what is wrong." She whispered concerned for her baby. Maddie looked up with tears in her eyes, took a deep breath and whimpered' I saw what happened with that horse. I was so scared. I thought you were going to get hurt and leave in an ambulance again." She breathed again heavily continuing, "I don't want you are the baby to get hurt" Amy was dumbfounded replying, "It's OK I am fine. The horse was a little skittish and Annie was with me." She got very serious and looked her mother directly in the eye, "You need to be more careful. We need you to be safe and healthy and the little Nugget needs to be too. You can't put yourself in a situation where you could get hurt. That horse could have hurt you. Please, please mom, you need to be careful." Maddie collapsed in her mother's arms and Amy's eyes swelled with tears. "Oh Maddie, I am so sorry. I promise you I will be more careful. You have my word." Amy pledged. "In fact, I want you to tell everyone we will have a family meeting after dinner tonight and I will tell everyone." Maddie smiled and held onto her mom never wanting to let he go.

Before they sat down to dinner Amy pulled Ty aside and told her what happened. She was crying and holding on to him for support. She had no idea Maddie had such strong feelings about her safety. Ty agreed with her plan for after dinner. They walked down to dinner and dished up all the food. There was lively discussions and Georgie, Steven and Kate had joined them. More than one person noticed how quiet Maddie was. Lyndy glanced at her mom, and she smile mouthing to her, "She's OK." Ty saw the interaction and winked at Lyndy too. When the table was cleared Amy asked everyone to stay. "I have something to say to everyone, " I want to apologize to everyone." most of the faces seemed confused. "It was brought to my attention that I have not been as safe as I should be with the newest member of the family on the way. Today I was bringing a horse in from the round pen, and it jump and jerked me a bit. I was able to get the horse under control with the help of Annie, but I was not being safe. From this point forward I promise to be more aware of what is going on and always have one of you with me." She sighed heavily, tearing up and placing her hands on her stomach. "I hope you all accept my apology and my pledge. I can't wait for this little one to join us and I will make sure he or she is safe." The room was silent, and everyone shook their heads in affirmation. "Does anyone have any questions?" Everyone shook their heads no and finally her little angel spoke up. "Thank you, Mommy!" She ran over and hugged her mom tightly along with the rest of the girls. Ty stood next to Steve and whispered, "That was awesome, but we are outnumbered here. Man, I hope we have a boy"
