Chapter Thirty-Eight
School, Competitions, Work, Babies
A/N – Amy and Ty are all good, school is underway and the girls had amazing birthday parties. As I continue to hear bits and pieces about the current season, as always my goal with this story will be to show the power and love of the Borden family, especially Amy and Ty. I think the last chapter showed that. School and work is well under way the Fall Finale is just around the corner. But the biggest event, the birth of Georgie and Steven's twins is any day now. What challenges and joy will come to this family. Mild Mature Content. Enjoy
It was an active family dinner since over the last few days the family was not together due to other activities. Ty and Amy made every effort to make sure the family had dinner together often and then spent time sharing everyone's world. School had been on for several weeks and the older girls were preparing for the Fall Finale. Due to her parents accident, Maddie decided not to defend her championship but decided to focus on preparing to compete next summer in the beginner level. Amy and Ty were extremely busy with the constantly growing business demands and for Amy staying on top of things since Georgie was basically on bed rest. Her due date was here so the family was on pins and needles for the birth of her and Steven's twins. All was well with the babies and Georgie as Lou, Amy, Katie, Lisa and Lyndy were there around the clock with her. She was never alone and had actually moved into Heartland with Steven so she was close by. Even the twins and Maddie took shifts as well as her friend Jade. Although a little overbearing she welcomed the company and support.
As dinner progressed each child had their chance to talk. Lyndy talked about her classes and how 8th grade was a lot more challenging. Like Maddie, she had been taking accelerated classes and was being challenged but so far was enjoying it. Of course she snuck in some Wyatt comments and the twins weren't too rough on her. Along with school she was preparing for a dance team competition at school which the entire family was excited about. Her skills had continued to improve and Sandra, Amy's friend and her instructor expected that the team would do well. And she was more than ready for the Fall Finale to defend her title. She was also excited to be moving up next year to preliminary level which would challenge her even more. Both Amy and Georgie were sure she would do well. She had rekindled her friendship with Maya and they could be found together at school and as they worked at Heartland. Maya, like many of the Borden kid's friend loved to help out at the Equine Center. She had gone to see movie with Wyatt several times by themselves with rides from Amy or Ty since Grandma June couldn't drive anymore. Their relationship continued to grow and mature. She was always open and honest with her parents valuing their opinions. This only made Amy and Ty more respectful of her maturity.
The twins as well were really enjoying their last year of elementary school. Their classes were challenging but they really liked the subjects and the fact that they had several classes with Desi and Jeremy. Like Lyndy they were very mature for their age which from their parents perspective was both good and bad. Since they were moving up a show jumping level like Lyndy, they were practicing extremely hard for the Fall Finale. They hoped that their extra effort would pay off and with their parents support they felt confident. One thing that was always instilled in all the kids was to compete fairly, do the best they could and they would always be winners no matter what. Their friend group was solid and they had recently all went out to the mall to hang out. They spoke a lot about Desi and Jeremy and how they were such good friends. Amy and Ty smiled at each other recalling their conversation the night before.
The night before when Amy and Ty came to say goodnight they asked if they could talk to them. Addie started, "Mom and dad, Desi and I are becoming good friends and I know we are young but I consider him my best friend. We spend a lot of time together and like it. I feel different when I am with him and it scares me a little." Annie continued, "Although Jeremy and I have been friends for a shorter time, I kind of feel the same way. Adds and I talk all the time about it and when others are around we talk in our language. I know we feel the same because I feel how Addie feels when she is around him. What do you think we should do?" Amy spoke first. "Well I am glad you are honest with us and yes you are really young but dad and I think you are smart girls, much more mature than I was at your age. Friendship is a wonderful thing and true friends are hard to come by. When I was your age I really only had one friend. Up until your dad and I met when I was 15 I never had a friend who was a boy. Be patient and enjoy your friendship and make sure you are respectful always encouraging them to be honest. That is a true friendship." She began to tear up, "Your father and I started as friends and our relationship grew because we respected and listened to each other." She hugged Ty. Ty spoke up, "But the father in me will say to make sure that they never force you to do something you don't want to do. If it doesn't feel right than it isn't." The girls understood and give their parents each a hug and kiss.
Back to dinner, Maddie was extremely happy about school so far and was really enjoying her extra credit work. She was adapting well to the extra work and was having a great time. She took time to talk about some of the projects she was working on and her three older sisters were impressed. Lyndy spoke up, "Wow Maddie that is awesome, maybe you will be as smart as dad." Everyone chuckled as Ty grabbed Lyndy and tickled her. Maddie talked about her jumping training and how she was excited to begin competing next Summer. But what she did next astounded the entire table. She spent the next few minutes talking about Gwen and how well she was doing. Since she was high functioning she had been mainstreamed and Maddie was her partner. She went on and on about her artwork, how well she did in gym class activities and how she was gaining the respect of her classmates. Maddie was so proud of her and how she had overcome her early years of being bullied. Amy couldn't hold back her pride saying in front of the group, "Honey you are a wonderful friend and an amazing person. Everyone is proud of you." A group hug followed and after they cleaned up they headed to the living room to hang out.
As they settled in the living room, Maddie spoke up, "JT how is your school, tickling his stomach." Everyone laughed as JT ran to his mom. JT blurted out, "I love school and all the teachers. I have lots of friends." Maddie continued, "I saw your artwork on the wall, it was beautiful." Addie added, "When I picked him up one of the teachers told me that JT was doing very well and all the kids like him." And finally Annie joined in the fun, "Well when I picked him up she was helping another kid with his jacket, it was so nice of him because the kid was having troubles." Lyndy, Amy and Ty listened with sincere interest. Amy thanked them, "Girls it is so nice that you are so interested in your brothers' happiness. He is one lucky boy. JT looked a little puzzled and said, "I love my sissies," running to them and hugging them all. Amy and Ty were in tears as they watched their amazing children and without a word hugged them all.
After things settled, Addie looked at them and asked them how they were each doing. The girls especially were always interested in their parents and what they did. Annie added, And how are you feeling? We noticed you have slept in a few days lately." Lyndy chucked under her breath and spoke up winking at her parents. "Well guys it takes a lot of rest to get better so let's cut them some slack." After they composed themselves they talked about what was going on with them. Amy talked about several of the more challenging horses she had been working with and how excited she was about Georgie and the birth of the twins. She spoke of one horse she had and how she had asked Wyatt to help out. "Lyndy, he really is doing well, I think we need to keep challenging both of you." Lyndy smiled and blushed a bit as Maddie giggled, "Lyndy is in love." All the girls giggled until they got the look from their dad. Ty talked about several of the horses who needed extra surgical care and attention. He raved about how Steven and Cass had been helping out and that they would be offering a job for a new vet to start soon. As they finished Addie spoke up, "You know why we love you both so much. When you talk about what you do you always talk about others not just yourself. When it comes to parents you guys are pretty cool." Maddie jumped in, "No they are the best in the world." They all shook their heads in agreement and after a family hug went to their rooms to get ready for bed.
After they made their rounds Amy and Ty settled into bed. Amy smiled at him and said, "those are some special kids aren't they. They are caring, honest and humble. I don't know if I could be any prouder of each of them. Although the smart as dad thing is a little off," She laughed jabbing Ty's ribs. Ty immediately attacked her as well and the laughing could be heard by some of the kids. Maddie knocked on the door and yelled, "Are you guys OK." They heard Lyndy grab her and tell her that they are fine and leave them be. They chuckled and soon found themselves in a deep and passionate kiss. Ty mumbled, "Amy you are irresistible, I can't keep my hands off of you." She giggled, "And who says I want you to," rolling on top of him. She began to peel off his clothes and he did hers as well. The kissed and touched each other eventually ending with a union of their bodies. Their love was all consuming and their passion was focused on each other. They laid holding each other catching their breath. Amy smiled and whispered, "Wow I know we had a little downtime after the accident but we are definitely back to form." Ty took a moment to respond, "Amy, I love my kids and I love my life but," he hesitated starting to choke up, "I adore and love you. You are my light and hope and I will always be there for you. I know I am repeating myself but I would literally do anything for you, forever." She tearfully smiled and kissed him deeply. They were Amy and Ty forever.
It was a few days before the Fall Finale. Lyndy, Annie and Addie, along with Katie were excited. It would be Katie's final competition so it was special. She had started university and was focusing heavily on her horsemanship skills as she was being challenged more and more at work. The challenge this year was the fact that Georgie due date was here. So the family had a plan in place. Ty, Amy, the Borden kids, Katie, Clay and Wyatt would all go to the event to get everyone set up and registered. Since Steven wasn't available Cass would also be there with Caleb and little Ben to make sure the horses were good. Maddie asked if Gwen could come so she could help with the little ones. Tim, Casey, Maya, Jade and her family as well as many of their friends would be there to cheer them on. Steven, Lou, Lisa and Jack would be ready to get Georgie to the hospital. The doctors were expected to decide on Friday if she should come in that morning either way. On Friday morning, Georgie woke up in some pain and discomfort. Steven got Lou and Lisa and after they talked to her they called the doctor. The doctor recommended that they update her every few hours and more than likely they would need to bring her in that afternoon. Georgie was uncomfortable and nervous. Amy joined the women to talk to her and comfort her. Georgie leaned on Amy as she had given birth to twins as well and they were extremely close. They were huddled together in private discussion and asked Steven to join them. "Steven, in less than 24 hours your amazing wife is going to give you two beautiful babies. She needs you and so will your children. I would never had been able to make through any birth if it wasn't for Ty so don't mess up," she laughed punching his arm. Georgie laughed and clutched her stomach. Steven immediately went to her and soothed her in her pain. Amy knew they would be fine.
Saturday morning came and everyone on Fall Finale detail was loading up. The horses were put in the 6-horse trailer along with all their gear. It would be hauled by Ty and the big SUV with Amy, the girls, Wyatt and Gwen. Clay would drive in the case that Katie, who had an early time could make it to the hospital. Cass and Caleb bought the two little ones so they could hang. After a long day and night, the Georgie team headed to the hospital. When they arrived she was taken immediately into the birthing room. The doctors had decided to induce labor but before they could her water broke. As they got her settled they said she was at 5cms already so an epidural was administered, thankfully. Georgie's wanted a regular birth but with Twins, a C-Section was always a possibility. She asked Steven to call Amy on his phone and hand it to her. Lou and Lisa looked at her wondering what she was doing. Amy heard her phone ring and was alarmed when she saw Steven's name as everyone hovered around her. She picked it up excitedly, "Steven, did Georgie have the babies?" On the other end of the phone she heard a pained laugh. "No Amy it's me can you put me on speaker," Amy held the phone up and mouthed that it was Georgie. "Girls, it's me. I can't be there because your cousins, nieces or nephews are on the way but I need the four of you to promise me something. I need all of you to go out there today and kick butt and don't you dare be concerned about me. I want to tell my babies that the day they were born their Aunt Katie and Cousins, Lyndy, Annie and Addie competed in the Fall Finale and did great. Do you all understand." She groaned as another contraction hit. Individually they said yes and Maddie added, "How is Grandma Lou and Grandpa Scott doing?" Georgie laughed and passed the phone to Lou as another close contraction hit. "Girls its go time so when you are done we will let you know that your new cousins are here. We love you all and good luck."
At the competition, with Georgie's support the girls were laser focused. Katie's group went first and she had the best run of her career. She was the 2nd to compete so they had to wait until the end. She was ecstatic when she found that she placed 2nd which was much better that she expected. She knew Georgie would be proud and after the awards ceremony, Clay and her headed to the hospital. Amy had received a text from Grandpa saying the Georgie was doing well and they expected the new arrivals in an hour or so. Next up were the twins. Even this was their first year in their bracket they were both favored to land in the top three. The great thing was that it didn't matter which one of them did better just that they both did well. Annie was first up and Addie was going to be last. The announcer made a big deal about them being twins. In addition he made mention that everyone knew their cousin Georgie as an Olympic Champion and their mom as the famous Miracle Girl. After running it by Ty and Amy he also announced that even though Georgie was in the middle of having twins her family was her to compete. He congratulated them for their commitment to the sport. Annie started her run and was perfect, making every jump without a fault. When she finished Amy and Ty were overwhelmed that she had run her best time as well. Addie jump into her sisters arms when she dismounted and congratulated her. Together they watched the rest of the contestants until it was Addie's turn. Addie started her run and like her sister had no faults. When she ended she was only 1/10 of a second slower which was her best time ever as well. The waited for the results but were confident they did well.
Back at the hospital even with the sedative it was still a rough go on Georgie. In between contractions she kept asking how the girls were doing. Lou frowned, "Georgie really, you are having two babies. You need to focus." She sternly looked at her mother as another contraction hit, "Don't you think I know that mom, but I want them to do well." Jack interrupted, well Katie ran her best time ever and came in 2nd and the twins also ran their best. Amy thinks they will wind up 1st and 2nd. She said it seems Georgie's pep talk worked." Georgie smiled as the strongest contraction hit as alarms started going off. The doctor and nurses immediately rushed into the room asking the family to step out. Katie and Clay arrived to see the family group in the waiting room distressed. "What happened, Is Georgie and the babies OK?" Before Lou could answer, they saw a nurse with a smile heading out. "Georgie and the babies are fine. With twins it is common for one of them to be a little more aggressive. One of the babies shifted and caused the other to be stressed lowering its heartbeat. The doctor did some external massage and both babies are in good alignment. Georgie is good and is asking for you Steven. And before you ask, we recommend that only 2 or 3 of you go in." Steven thanked the doctor and looked at Lou and Katie. The three of them went in to be with Georgie.
Back at the Fall Finale, the results were in. Annie and Addie finished 1st and 2nd much to their delight. The family was on top of the world as Ty, Amy, Lyndy, Maddie and JT hugged them in congratulations. Amy immediately texted her grandpa but was surprised when he called her back. "Grandpa what's wrong, is Georgie Ok? Jack calmly responded, "There was a little issue with an over aggressive sibling but all is well. Steven, Lou and Katie are with them and we expect to hear something any minute. Thell the girls congratulation and Lyndy good luck, talk to you soon." He hung up and Amy sighed in relief giving everyone the update. Lyndy age group was up and she was scheduled 4th. As she began the run, Amy noticed that she had a look of calm and Sundance held his head high. She gilded effortlessly through the course without fault matching her best competition time. As she ended she jumped off the horse and was enveloped by her family and got a big hug from Wyatt. As the last competitor started her run everyone looked on understanding that as of now Lyndy was in first place. The last competitor went through the course quickly and without a fault. They anxiously looked at clock. When the final time appeared they gasped together. Lyndy and the last competitor had tied. There would need to be a tie breaking ride. The announcer was excited mentioned that this was rare in this level of competition. He stated that the runoff would be in 20 minutes.
Back at the hospital the medical team was preparing for the birth. Lou and Katie had gone to be with the family so they could have their privacy. Georgie was bearing down with a large contraction, clutching Steven's hand tightly. With tears in his eyes he encouraged her and comforted her. Even with the epidural the pressure was still felt and Georgie was battling through it. The lead doctor spoke to her, "Ok Georgie it is time to meet your first child. Don't push until I tell you." After checking some of the monitors he encouraged her to push. Georgie bore down with all her might and with Steven's support the first baby slid into the doctor's arms. "It's a girl" he said as they waited for the glorious sound of their crying baby. Steven help cut the cord and they took their daughter to the prep table. The nurse joked, "She is a fidgety one, I bet she is the one who was moving around before." Steven joked, "Oh no we may have another Maddie on our hands" The team laughed as Georgie explained they had an overly active 7-year-old cousin. The doctor checked and told Georgie that baby #2 was ready. At his prompt, she bore down again. Steven had no idea where her strength came from but he couldn't control his emotions telling her how amazing she was. After just a couple of minutes, baby #2 was born. Steven and Georgie anxiously waited for the doctor to speak. "Georgie and Steven, meet your son." As soon as he told them they heard a loud bellow, "And he has a great set of pipes." Steven joked "Well he will have to. We have a female dominant family, with only one other boy who is 18 months. The men in this family are severely outnumbered." The team laughed and then brought the two squirming babies over to their parents. Steven gave his phone to one of the nurses and asked her to take several pictures. He couldn't wait to share the news with the family.
It was time for the runoff and Lyndy was going second, which she was privately happy about. They watch as the first rider run the course. Outside of a slight graze of the last pole it was a great run. The time was announced and Lyndy felt she could beat it. As she prepared for the run, Amy's phone buzzed. With a big smile, Amy showed her the screen, "You have something to win for now." Lyndy smiled looking at Georgie, Steven and the twins. She swelled with happy tears and said to Amy, "I got this, this is for my new 2nd cousins. I want to tell them that right after they were born I won the Fall Finale." She hugged her mom and dad and jumped on to Sundance. She leaned down to her horse and patted his neck, "Let's do this boy." Sundance raised his head high ready to start. As the run began Amy immediately saw a look of determination on Lyndy and Sundance. The started strongly gliding way over the first few jumps. As they approached the fourth jump Sundance seemed to kick it up a gear and Lyndy expertly controlled his excitement over the next few jumps. As they approach the last and most difficult jump she approached aggressively and cleared it with air to spare. As she landed the crowd erupted and as the final time posted she had won the competition. The family was over moon and as the awards were presented Lyndy ask to take the microphone. "I wanted to let everyone know that I won this for my two new 2nd cousins. My cousin Georgie Fleming Weber gave birth to healthy twins just before I started my run. I won this for them and I love them." The crowd erupted again and as she dismounted Wyatt hugged her with all his might. It was a good day for the family.
Caleb and Cass offered to take JT and the horses back to the Miracle Ranch and Gwen home so Amy, Ty and the kids could go to the hospital. When they arrived they walked into a joyous group. Steven had come out to let others go in to see Georgie and the baby's. The admitting nurse laughed as they asked where to go. "I have never seen a larger group of people for one couple. It is really special.' As they walked back, Tim, Casey and Jade followed them in. Steven was smiling broadly sharing pictures and hugging everyone on sight. He walked over to Ty and hugged him tightly, as Ty whispered in his ear, "Welcome to the club Steven, the happiest times of your life are about to begin." Amy, Ty and the family went in together. They didn't want to overwhelm the babies and the staff so everyone took shifts. When Amy entered Georgie immediately burst into tears and hugged her Aunt and best friend. Steven took everyone over to look at the sleeping babies as Amy and Georgie talked in hushed tones. "Georgie, they are beautiful and from what I hear you did amazing. Now you will see that the boundless love that children can bring. Just when you think you can't love anything more they do something cute and you love them more. But remember the first love of your life. I have never seen him happier. Cherish the love you have and trust me it will only get better, even when you have two crying babies at 2 in the morning." Georgie hugged her even tighter and whispered in her ear, "Amy I love you with all my heart and I am excited about the future. I have to say this, you and Ty have always been there for me even when things with my mom and dad were not good. I have learned how to love by watching you two. Thank you for being there for me and loving me unconditionally." They tearfully smiled and hugged again. As the family came back to them Amy hugged Ty and whispered in his ear, "I love this family and I love you with all my heart." It was a good day.
