Chapter Fifty-Eight
All For Amy
A/N – For those of us who have been impacted by the disease I hope I gave it the justice it deserves. Amy is a strong and resilient woman and her family, especially her husband are very supportive. My plan was to tell this story in one chapter but I feel something this important needs more focus. Let's watch how this family completely commits to Amy and her battle. This is a hard topic and I pledge to you that I will treat it with respect and dignity. Mature Content Enjoy
The day after telling the kids Amy and Ty woke early. Amy rolled over to hold her husband as he pulled her into his chest. She sighed heavily and Ty whispered to her, "Hey there beautiful, good morning. How are you doing, yesterday was kind of al lot for you." She smiled into his neck. "Right now like this, I am great. I think yesterday went well and the girls and the little man were amazing." Choking up she continued, "You know what he said really hit me. Could it be that he has a connection with her. The girls never had such vivid dreams like him. And being so young how could he say the things he is saying." Ty smiled, "I agree seems your mom has latched onto him and I am confident she is speaking through him. She is always here for us." They quietly laid there for a while when TY spoke up, "So are you ready for today there Miracle Girl." She giggled, "You bet I am, now more than ever." She reached up and kissed him with passion, "I am really ready." Taking the hint he returned her passion hesitating a little. She pulled her head back, "No Ty I am really ready, let's take a shower now, I will make it worth your time." The got up shedding the few clothes they had on and turned on the shower. Amy was possessed and immediately began kissing him and moving her hands all over his body, ending up in the right place. She pumped his manhood bring him to full arousal. She knelt down and pleasured him completely as he stood in astonishment. She moved back up to him latching onto his lips again so Ty took the queue to kiss and touch her where she needed it the most. As his hand glanced over the bump he pulled back.. Amy grabbed his hand and looked into his eyes, "Ty I need you to kiss and touch all of me." He obliged tenderly kissing her breast. He brought her to ecstasy several times. As they finished they romantically washed and rinsed each other off .
The got dressed and went downstairs to make breakfast. One by one the girls came down. They were surprised when Wyatt came down with JT. "I had someone have a sleepover with me." Amy smiled and grabbed her little boy she smiled, "Good morning mommy, I love you." Breakfast was good as the family talked quietly. Surprising her, Amy's phone went off. It was the doctor's office letting her know that the treatment had to be moved to tomorrow due to a scheduling issue. Amy and Ty were Ok with it, in fact it would give them time to talk to other close friends to bring them into the loop. They felt that is would make it easier for the kids and give them more support. Ty spoke up, "Kids, mom and I decided that since we don't have to go until tomorrow that we are going to talk to some others about mom's condition. That way you won't be pressured to keep the secret and it will be nice to have other people to talk to, Ok?" The kids agreed and Amy went over the list of people they were going to talk to, Caleb and Cass, Dr. Ellie, Jenn and Ben Stillman. Max and Lilly, although Ty was sure Jack had already talked to them. Ty added Will and Bethany as well as Tim and Casey. Tim was still not as engaged totally but was always trying to be more involved with his daughter and her family. Maddie asked, "Mommy what about Gwen?" Amy smiled, how about you and I talk to her and her mom together when her mom drops her off. Lyndy then spoke up for the rest of the kids, "Mom can we go with you?" She smiled again, "Well I think the first time just your dad and I will go to see what happens. If it is Ok I promise you will all go with me. Dad can't make one of them and I can't drive so Aunt Lou will take me, maybe a couple of you can go with me then." They all smiled, cleaned up breakfast and went about their day.
Every one of the discussions went well. There was a common reaction of initial shock, teary eyes and then hugs. Everyone pledged their support for Amy and the family and were all sure things would go well. When Amy saw Jenn and told her she immediately said that when she had her appointments that they would take JT and let him hang with their boys. The hardest discussion was with Caleb as Amy wanted to do that one herself. Their relationship was very strong and he was shaken. He couldn't speak as he hugged her tightly. Amy pulled back and looked in his eyes, "Listen you big softie, it will all be good but I have a favor. I need you to spend more time with your best man. Outwardly he is strong but you two have that thing and he needs you and I expect you need him." He tipped his hat and smiled hugging her again still not able to speak. The conversation with Max and Lilly was also good but Lilly was very emotional. Ty never knew but Lilly list her mom to breast cancer. As they were talking to them they pledged their support, whatever they needed. Lisa walked in and Lilly spoke up. "In fact every morning of your appointments, Lisa and I will come over and take care of breakfast and the girls. You just focus on what you have to do." Amy and Ty were overwhelmed with the support as Lilly and Lisa held them tightly. Max added, "Guys don't worry about JT, Jack, Tim and I will have him hang with us. He likes us old guys." Ty and Amy headed to Big River to talk with Tim and Casey. Like Caleb, Tim was unable to talk hugging his baby girl tightly. Casey spoke for him, "Well Amy you know what cancer has done to my family so I am not going to be sad about it. Tim and I are here for you, if there is anything you need, anything at all we are here. I'll talk to Lou and between Lisa, Lilly and me we will make you some dinners so you don't have to worry about it." Amy could see her mind working. Tim finally was able to speak, "Honey you are tough and I have no doubt you will beat this." pulling Ty over, "And you have Ty and he is awesome and will be right there with you."
The rest of the day went well as Ty and Amy went about their work. Amy was hugged a lot as the word spread to the staff. Ty stayed as close as he could to her and continued to be amazed at her strength. He smiled as he thought back to their amazing morning love session. At the end of the day they were in the office finishing up notes and emails. Amy's phone rang and she picked it up with a smile on her face, "Maryanne, what a surprise, how are you?" The was silence on the other end as she gathered herself, "Amy, Haley just got off the phone with Lyndy and they decided that you need your best friend. Oh Amy," as she began to cry. Amy joined her as they shared a moment. Ty overheard, grabbed JT, put his hand on Amy's shoulder and left her to be alone closing the door. Finally after a few minutes Amy spoke, "Maryanne I'm so sorry, I was planning to call you tonight, but I am so glad you called." She answered as her voice was still shaky, "Oh Amy don't worry the most important thing is you and how you are doing. Lyndy filled us in and I have to say I am not surprised with your strength as well as your family. I have to say this, for once it is all about you and you have to make sure you take all the love and help coming your way. You have spent your life being there for others and now it is their turn to be there for you." Amy settled a bit and thanked her best friend, "Maryanne you don't know how much this means to mean. I know the girls are excited about your visit in a few weeks too." "Well, about that, a change in plans, we are flying in tomorrow afternoon. I have already talked to Jenn about a room, Justin is coming too but has to leave the next day. So, can the girls stay with yours?" she asked. Amy was overwhelmed, "Of course and you are staying here in the guest room. Wyatt will be is a bit overwhelmed with all the females around and I am sure he will stay in bunkhouse. He and Lyndy will survive." After a few more minutes they hung up and Amy sat with tears in her eyes. Ty came in without JT and embraced his teary-eyed wife. "Amy, we have amazing family and friends but at this moment they are all focused on you because they all love you. And I love you forever."
The news of the early arrival of the Trudeaus made dinner a lot of fun. The girls were excited and as expected, Wyatt was making plans to stay in the bunkhouse. Lyndy frowned and he spoke up, "Lyndy, I really like you but I can't be here with 8 girls, it's too much for any man." Ty smiled, "I will second that." Amy poked his ribs and kissed him, "You aren't going anywhere buddy." Maddie and Addie cringed when their kiss lasted a little longer than normal, "Mom you have to save your energy, chill." Much to their disgust the kiss intensified as JT laughed. Everyone went to bed a while later and enjoyed a nervous but good night's sleep. The next morning the family awoke to busy activity in the kitchen. Lilly, Lisa and Casey were preparing breakfast for the family as promised. Everyone had a good chat and headed out to their day. The girls and JT each hugged their mom with no words said. Amy and Ty went over to the office for a bit and then left for the clinic. Amy held onto Ty's hand with both of hers as they drove in silence. They arrived, checked in and after a few minutes were called into the office. The nurse practitioner spoke to them and to their surprise Amy's doctor came by to check in. "Amy are you all ready. Do you have any questions for me?" Amy and Ty both smiled and answered, "No the nurse did a great job explaining things. Seems it is just a drip that will take a little less than an hour. Thank you for dropping by." She said her farewells and Amy went to get seated on the lounge chair with Ty at her side. The IV line was inserted and the administration of the drug began. 40 minutes later the treatment was finished. The nurse went over some potential side effects and reminded them that next week would take a little longer because she would have a mammogram and blood draw before the chemotherapy. Amy and Ty walked hand in hand to the SUV and headed home. The ride was good as they talked about the horses they had to look at and the pending arrival of the Trudeaus. She looked at Ty and saw a concern on his face. Before he could speak she spoke up, "I know what you are thinking Dr. Borden. Don't worry I will take it easy and make sure I take care of myself. You don't have to bubble wrap me but I won't be upset if I get a few extra kisses today." He smiled squeezing her hand, "That won't be too hard to do."
As they pulled up to the ranch house as expected a group was waiting. Ty smiled, "It's time for everyone to be here for you." She leaned over and kissed him as they got out and walked into a lot of questions. After several minutes everyone dispersed and Amy and Ty went into the house to freshen up. Lou and Casey were just finishing cleaning the entire house and setting up all the rooms for their visitors. Lou laughed, "The PMs security team is arriving at noon to look things over" They will be set up at Fairfield. We'll leave you two be. Oh and dinner for everyone is at Fairfield tonight." As they left they hugged Amy and again told her to get with them if they needed anything. Amy and Ty went to their room to relax and get changed into work clothes. As she was dressing Amy had to steady herself. Ty immediately noticed and went to her, "Amy what is wrong." She smiled, "Its nothing just a little nauseous. I have some anti-nausea pills if I need them and I am Ok. I am also overwhelmed with all the help. It's so wonderful." She leaned into him. The walked out to the barn hand in hand and parted to go get started on the work for the day. Before they separated, Ty leaned over and kiss Amy with passion and love. Of course hoots and hollers were heard from every corner of the ranch from those in clear view of the lovebirds. Reacting, Amy and Ty increased the passion of their kiss until Caleb interrupted. "You two will never change as he walked over and hugged both of them teary eyed. "And still I love you guys."
The rest of the day went well for the couple and the kids. Amy only experienced minor discomfort but couldn't help but notice that she never had to open a door, tack up a horse of even put a lead on. Basically any physical activity was done by someone else. She had a sneaky suspicion that a little girl and her sisters were behind it. But more importantly she was excited that her friend was on her way having landed an hour ago. The onsite security team let the family know that the SUVs were five minutes out. The family gathered on the porch to greet their friends. Maddie was first to see the caravan heading their way. An all-black SUV was led two similar SUVs and followed by two Calgary police cars. It was quite a site and Lyndy laughed, "Can you imagine having to go everywhere that way?" As the parked the security team got out followed by the Trudeau girls who ran to see their friends. Hugs abounded as there were multiple conversations at once. Wyatt stood with Rusty and Haley looked over heading over with Lyndy to greet him. The Prime Minster and Maryanne got out next and met Amy and Ty in the middle of the yard. Maryanne launched herself at Amy hugging her like she would never let go. Justin came to Ty and shook his hand grabbing his shoulder as well in reassurance. There were many of the staff and family watching from afar allowing the two families to meet in private. After the initial meeting they headed into the house with the security team and the PM's assistant following with their bags. The girls skipped in holding hands. Amy and Maryanne were still arm in arm not wanting to let go. Ty and Justin followed the group, proud of their families.
Dinner at Fairfield was a large event, almost like a party. All the family members attended along with Caleb, Cass, Ben and Jenn since it was technically their house. Questions were asked about Addie's accident as she proudly said, "Yea it was really bad but I am all better and can't wait to ride again." Justin smirked, "I bet your mom may have something to say about that. After they finished dinner while waiting for desert, Amy was asked to give everyone an update and for the Trudeaus give some details. With JT on her lap and Maryanne holding her hand Amy detailed the story from when she found the nodule, the visit to the doctor and the treatment plan. Everyone was quiet listening to her, "And I just have to say this big oaf over here has been my rock and my amazing children, well they are something else. And I have to ask Maddie, how many people are tied up in this little covert scheme you have set up to help me. I feel like everyone is watching me and when I have to do anything there is someone there to do it for me." Maddie put her head down, "Mommy you need to save your strength for your treatments, we were only thinking about you and everyone basically knows. If you want I can turn it down a bit. Mom this is all for you. You have spent your life doing for others and horses. It is our turn." Amy simply smiled at her, hugging her tightly. "Ok honey thank you, I'll be Ok with it." Addie interjected, "Man no one did stuff for me with my very serious injury." Everyone laughed as Annie smacked her sister in her good arm.
As they continued with desert, Justin had arranged for Bart and JT to talk over a video call. JT was pumped as his friend came on the screen. They chatted about this and that but then the call went a different way. JT spoke, "Bart I am glad you are better, I know you would be because my grandma told me." Bart smiled, "Yea, she told me too." The group listened in amazement as these two young boys talked about the relationship with Marion. Nonchalantly Bart continued, "And I talked to her about your mom and she said she talked to you too." JT smiled, "She did and she said that my mom would be Ok." Bart laughed, "She is really cool, I like her." They continued on for a few minutes more and then said goodbye. Brad got on the phone after he was done to talk to his mom and dad and wished Amy they best. He didn't come so he could stay with Bart and attend his summer hockey camp. Justin's parents were staying with them. After dinner, Amy, Ty, Maryanne and Justin went to the porch when they got back to the Miracle Ranch. The kids were messing around in the barn with the horses and Addie continued to tell about her accident reenacting it with the Norton. As they sat talking, JT walked over and jumped on his mom's lap. Amy had to ask, "Honey have you been talking to Grandma Marion in your dreams a lot." Very seriously he looked at her and answered, "Well it's kind of like when she wants to tell me something I see her when I am sleeping. A couple of times I have seen her too looking at us. She always tells me that she has talked to Bart. I think she likes both of us. She is funny too. And she looks a lot like you mommy." The adults were amazed with the clarity of his comments. Amy smiled and hugged him tightly. He squirmed, "Mommy you're squeezing me hard, can I go see Blue Boy?" He jumped and ran to the barn without a care in the world. The parents looked at each other and continued their conversation.
The week of the Trudeau visit went very well. Justin had to leave the following day and spent some time talking to Ty and Amy before he headed out. The kids had a blast and Maryanne spent a lot of time with Amy and Ty while they worked. She also hung out with Lou as their friendship began to grow as well. Maryanne was impressed with her success as multiple business owner. "Lou what you have accomplished is unbelievable, starting up two business and now also being the CFO for the new business while raising two amazing daughters, And those grandbabies, don't get me started." Lou smiled, "I won't deny at times it was tough but like we say around here, family helps all of us and my husband Scott has been my strongest supporter." The girls were taking a lot of trail rides as Haley and Elena would also work with Lyndy and Wyatt as the calmed horses they were working with in the round pen. Katie was impressed with Haley level of skill and encouraged as she worked with the horses. Elena was also good at it but to be honest she hung more with Addie and that dang Norton. Maddie, Gwen, Annie and Addie spent all of their time with the Trudeau twins and little JT. They rode horses, did chores and had picnics by the pond. All of the kids were enjoying their time together building bonds that would last a lifetime.
The weekend brought on an important jumping competition qualifier. After breakfast Saturday morning the entire very large group of family and friends headed to the arena. Lyndy, Katie, Annie, Addie and Maddie were all competing. The entire group was excited and took up a large section of the bleachers. This was the first time the Trudeaus had ever attended one of these and it was overwhelming. They watched as the girls competed. All of them placed in the top three but most impressive was Lyndy. She dominated her age group as she guided Sundance easily through the course gliding effortlessly over the jumps. Georgie had mentioned that Lyndy had the potential for greatness and they were seeing it live. As typical the family gathered at Heartland for a BBQ celebrating the five girls. It was a fun day for all and the Trudeaus felt as though they were members of the family. They planned on staying until Wednesday mainly because Maryanne wanted to go with Amy to her next treatment. Ty had a very important surgery and Lou had a meeting with some suppliers. And the bonus, they would be driven there since Maryanne wasn't allowed to. Amy felt very special as the two SUVs pulled up to the clinic. After the security team cleared the area they stepped out as people looked in awe as the PM's wife and Amy Borden walked into the clinic. They took the time to talk to some of the people which they really appreciated.
Even with all the banter, as they walked in Amy's anxiety still rose. Maryanne sensed it and clutched her hand tightly. As the nurse got them seated many of the staff looked on. One of the nurses spoke up, "Madam Prime Minister, we are honored to have you here with us today." Maryanne politely smiled at the comment but immediately spoke up, "Thank you and I want to thank you all for what you do as health care workers. But I am here for my friend Amy. She is the real hero here and I will be her support today." They all smiled and went about their business. Amy smiled and whispered to her friend, "Thank You." After a mammogram and lab work they began to administer the treatment. The staff had decided to insert an IV and use it for both the blood drawn and chemo delivery. Amy and Maryanne talked quietly about anything and everything. "Amy, I have to ask, how does it feel? Amy smiled clutching her hand, "Well don't tell Ty but as the treatment is administered, I feel a cool sensation moving up and down my arm. It only last for a bit and doesn't hurt only a little uncomfortable." Maryanne smiled realizing the strength of her friend. When it was completed they met briefly with the doctor. "Well it seems everything looks good. We haven't seen any reduction yet but nothing has gotten worse. It generally takes a couple of weeks to see results but Amy, this is good news." Amy leaned into to her friend in relief. The doctor continued, "But I will tell you after each of these treatments the aftereffects may increase. Just be aware." Maryanne smiled, "Well doc let me tell you her daughters have that covered. Amy can't do anything without someone there. It's kind of cute." Amy stood up a little unsteady and stated, "Well you think it's cool."
The ride home was quiet as Amy admitted she did feel a little nauseous and unsteady. As they pulled up to the house the older girls walked up to the caravan. Lyndy went to her mom as she noticed she seemed a little flush. "Come on mom let's go lay down, I am a little tired too." Lyndy and Amy got to her bedroom and after helping her get comfortable she helped her into bed. She could tell her mom was not 100% and after she was comfortable, she said she would be right back. She saw Maryanne, "Can you call my dad, my mom seems a little off. I am going to go back and lay with her. I am not worried but this is all new to us so I think we need to let him know." Maryanne replied, "Absolutely, I will call him right now." Ty's surgery had just ended so he headed home immediately. Maryanne was sitting in the living room and had sent the rest of the kids out. She jumped up as Ty walked in, "Ty she seems a little off and feels a little warm. She is resting well though." Ty walked in and saw his oldest daughter holding is wife rubbing her back. Amy was sleeping and Lyndy looked up with a small tear in her eye. She whispered, "This sucks dad, she is so strong and hasn't complained but I know she is not feeling well at all." He smiled at his daughter, "Well I will call the doctor but we knew as the treatments continued the after affects would get worse." As he stepped out of the room, Maryanne walked over to him, "Don't yell at me but I am delaying our departure until I know she is better. No arguments." Seeding relief, He hugged her, Thanks you, I know Amy will be happy."
After some rest Amy was feeling much better and at dinner she took the time to explain to all the kids what had happened. She didn't want to hide anything from them. They had a great dinner and after it the group took a walk around compound so Amy could see Blaze and some of the other horses. A few days later the Trudeaus reluctantly went home, the most reluctant being Maryanne. She promised Amy that they would talk every day and that if she needed her she would be there in an instant. They all stood on the porch waving at them as they drove away. Dinner was a bit subdued but there were still active conversations. They talked of birthdays and the upcoming school year, which was going to be a big one. Lyndy would be starting high school. The Twins would be starting middle school and turning 12, Maddie was turning 9 and heading to 3rd grade. And who could forget that JT was starting PreK six months ahead of time. September would be action packed because in addition of the Weber twins having their first birthday. It seemed every weekend was booked. School supply and clothes shopping trips were schedule on the next two weekends. It seemed that Amy was normal on the weekend and there was no way she was going to miss it. Over the next few weeks life would continue as normal as much as it could with the end of treatment on everyone's mind. For the last two visits the girls split up and went with their parents which made Amy very happy. But the bottom line was that everyone member of the family along with friends and staff were all in for her. Their support gave her strength. One day in the office, Amy seemed forlorn. Ty closed the door and walked over to her as she stood up and entered his embrace. "Ty, everyone has been amazing. I don't know what I would have done without them." He smiled and kissed her deeply whispering, "Amy we will always be here for you."
