Chapter Sixty-Two

When The Need Arises

A/N – Well if there is a prize, I just got one for my longest chapter. It may have been my most enjoyable chapter I have written to date as well, spending virtually all my time on the Borden's. I apologize for the extended Author Notes section but I needed to cover off on some things. The next chapter will have some challenges again for the family and friends. Oh and there is some big competition coming up. Mature Content Enjoy

Time for some questions again so I hope you can take the time to give me your thoughts. THANKS:

1. I am finishing Chapters 61 and 62 with over 275K words. I have ideas for at least 10 more chapters and new ideas coming to mind every day. Is this getting too long? Do you feel I should continue?

2. Is there any other topic you would like me to cover with the Borden's? (I have begun a Lyndy only story that I plan to begin to start releasing in a month or so. I am pretty excited.)

3. Is there any other character I should pay attention to more?

4. And as always any new storyline Ideas?

The fall continued for the family and staff. After meeting with the kids to go over what their teachers said the Borden children were excited about the school year more than ever. When Amy and Ty met with each of the kids including Wyatt they couldn't keep their excitement down as they covered all of the things they discussed with them. They were so proud of all of them. The girls were also focusing on the prep for the Fall Finale. The three older girls had been training 2-3 times a week and Maddie was working with Katie when she was not in class. Amy and Katie tag teamed the twins working with them when their schedules allowed. Georgie continued to work exclusively with Lyndy. Each time they practiced, her belief that she could be a potential Olympic competitor became more evident. Amy was watching her one day and Georgie leaned over. "Amy, I am trying to contain myself but she is really doing well. I really believe she has the potential to go far, to be honest she is at a level even I wasn't at when I was her age." Amy smiled and leaned into her niece, a tear in her eye. Wyatt looked over at Amy and smiled, "Mrs. Borden, your daughter is amazing. Every time I watch her ride, she makes me feel like, I can't even say how good she makes me feel." Amy smiled at him as Ty walked up to him and put his arm on his shoulder. "Wyatt trust me I know how it feels."

The kids were excited because it was Frady and the weekend was close by. Annie and Addie were looking forward to going to the movie and Maggie's with a group of their friends. They were even more excited that Jeremy and Desi were coming. Addie and Desi were becoming great friends, even maybe boyfriend/girlfriend at a 6th grade level. Addie had talked to Lyndy about it too shy to talk to her mom about her feelings. Lyndy kept Amy in the loop but told her mom that she could handle it. Annie and Jeremy were getting back together after a small tiff. Thye had the beginning of a strong relationship and Annie had been talking to Katie a lot. Again, Amy was in the loop. Maddie was excited to about the weekend as well. She had asked her parents, if Gwen, Sylvia and another classmate Bess, could spend the day and night. Amy and Ty talked to all the parents the day and night plans were confirmed. Lyndy volunteered Wyatt and her to take them on a trail ride and picnic and then the kids would have their slumber party in Maddie's room. She was so happy to spend time with them and that her parents, sister and her boyfriend were so amazing. Lyndy and Wyatt were happy for the weekend as well. On top of hanging with Maddie and their friends they were going to have a movie night on Saturday and on Sunday planned to spend the day with Grandma June. As they headed to their English class after lunch Lyndy saw the principle standing outside with their teacher. "Wyatt and Lyndy I need you to come with me. He grabbed her hand tightly as they followed him.

As they walked into the office their alarm level went into overdrive. In the conference room Amy and Ty were talking to the counselor and on the phone with someone. They waved Lyndy and Wyatt in and as they entered, Wyatt recognized his Aunt's voice. Wyatt felt as though he was going to faint as he held Lyndy to stabilize himself. Ty immediately went over to him to help him moving him to a chair. Lyndy stayed attached to him as they sat close. Amy sat the phone down and put it back on speaker phone calmly talking to Wyatt. "Wyatt your aunt needs to talk to you. Do you want to talk privately with her?" He shook his head no and Amy placed the phone in front of him. He was shaking as she began to speak, "Wyatt honey, Grandma June has had a stroke. She is stable but we need to get to the hospital. I am on a plane in an hour so Amy and Ty will take you to her. Honey, we need to be strong for her. I know it is hard but she is a strong woman, like all the women in our family. Do you have any questions, I am just about at the airport and have to get off soon." He looked at Lyndy with tears falling from his eyes. Lyndy spoke for him, "Is she going to die?" The question rocked the room as now Amy and Ty had tears in their eyes and his Aunt sighed loudly on the other end of the phone. "Honey I am not going to lie to you, we don't know for sure yet but they do have her stabilized and she is as good as she can be. She needs us strong for her." Finally Wyatt spoke shakily, "Ok I will and we will see you soon." Amy spoke briefly to her privately confirming some details. Lyndy and Amy held Wyatt as Ty brought the car to them. Each of them were in their own quiet thoughts and prayers. As Wyatt sobbed they began the long ride to the hospital.

As they got to the hospital, Ty dropped them off to go to park the car. He also made a few calls, filling Lou and Georgie in so the kids would be met after the got back from school. He promised that he would keep them both updated and asked Lou to have Katie get some clothes together for Lyndy and Wyatt. He expected that Lyndy would stay with him. He also called Caleb who would be picking up Wyatt's aunt at the airport. Amy took the lead as walked to the nurse's station. "Hi, I am Amy Borden, we are here to see how June Miller is doing. I have her grandson Wyatt with me and we have guardianship rights for him." She handed over the papers and after the nurse read them over she told Amy to have a seat with the kids in the waiting room and the doctor would come out to see them soon. Amy, Wyatt and Lyndy sat quietly waiting for the doctor. Lyndy had not let go of his hand since they received the word. She whispered to him, "Wyatt, Grandma June is a strong woman, I know she will be fine." He meekly smiled leaning into her as Amy rubbed his shoulder. Ty walked in and Amy stood up to fill him in. As they walked back to the kids the several doctors headed their way. They sat down across from them and the older mad started to speak. Wyatt, I am Dr. Albert, I know we saw the paperwork but I need your verbal permission to talk about your Grandma with the others present. Wyatt nodded his conformation and the doctor began to fill them in.

"Ok, it seems your grandma has had a level 16 Hemorrhagic stroke. This level of stroke is at the lowest level of moderate to serious and we think leading up to this she had several TIAs, or mini strokes. When we did the EEG we saw scarring indicating that she had been having them for a while. She has also been complaining of headaches, nausea and blurred vision." Lyndy spoke up, "Is confusion part of it too? The last time we were here she seemed a little off. We kept having to repeat things to her." "Yes young lady, that is another symptom. How long had you been noticing it?" He questioned. Wyatt found his voice, "It was at least the last tree weekend visits. Lyndy and I try to see her once a week. Should we have said something, is this my fault?" He began to get emotional but the doctor grabbed his arm, "Son, Wyatt, there is nothing you could have done. Strokes like this either happen quickly or over a period of time and in your Grandma's case this has most likely been happening for a while. And at her age, confusion is pretty normal." He smiled as the other doctor spoke, "So this is where we are. Test have shown she is stable but not out of the woods. The medications we are administering over time will completely stabilize her. Initial brain scans show minimal damage, which is very good." To help stabilize the conversation and give Wyatt a break Ty asked, "What type of medications are you administering to her?" The doctor discussed it at a medical level with Ty, so the rest of the group had a break. Amy held on to her daughter and Wyatt, "This is not your fault Wyatt, you heard the doctor. We need to see her and make sure she gets everything she needs right now. Your Aunt texted me and she will be here in a couple of hours. Katie is gathering some clothes for you guys as I figure you two won't be leaving. We will stay here until she shows up. Wyatt anything you need we will be here for you. All of us."

After Ty and the doctor finished the medical conversation, the doctors went over a few more things. When they finished they let them see her two at a time. Wyatt looked at Lyndy's eyes, "Lyndy, please don't be mad but is it Ok that I go with your dad and you go with your mom. If he is with me I may have questions that he can help me with. And I know you and your mom are so close, you are going to need her. I do hope you stay with me, so we will have all sorts of time later." She smiled in agreement hugging him tightly and kissing him on the lips. She blushed as her parents looked on. The doctor took Ty and Wyatt in to see June. As they walked in the first thing that Wyatt saw was his grandma's pale face. Looking around he a lot of tubes and wires as well as several beeping machines. As he had hoped, Ty described what everything was and what is did. As he spoke he kept his eyes on his grandma, thinking of all the reasons he loved and needed her. After a few minutes he went to her bedside and grabbed her hand which surprisingly felt warm. The doctor said she was sedated but he expected she would wake up in a couple of hours. "Can she hear me?" he meekly asked. The doctor smiled, well some think not but I believe talking to her is very important." He smiled and left them alone. Wyatt took the next hour to talk quietly to his grandma. Ty sat back giving him the room he needed. He slipped out to tell Amy and Lyndy to head in. As they walked in Wyatt looked up at him teary eyed and went to hug her. As they consoled each other Amy went over to June and spoke to her, "Grandma June, it's Amy, Ty Lyndy and I are here with Wyatt. He is Ok but really needs you to wake up. He loves you so much. Your niece will be here soon but you have my word that we will be here for him. We all love you." She stepped away and whispered to Lyndy that her and her dad would be in the waiting room. She smiled and joined Wyatt at June's bedside.

As Amy walked out she fell into Ty's arms. He was on the phone filling everyone in. When he hung up he encased his love in his arms. "Well our girls are already in the help mode. The have rearranged their weekend to be there for Lyndy and Wyatt. Of course they want to come to the hospital and I told them maybe tomorrow. Jenn and Ben will take JT and Katie and Clay are taking with the girls to our house until we get home. All covered." Amy smiled in relief, "We need to try to get them to eat something while June is still out. What is the chance of that." He smiled, "Not good but I bet you can convince them." She took the challenge and headed into the room. Ty followed up with Steven, Georgie and Caleb to see how work was going. They assured him everything was good. Caleb added, "Ty I talked to Cass to and the Vet Clinic is also good, she mentioned that the surgery you were planning to help Scott with went well and the dog is recovering well." He thanked them and as he hung up he saw his amazing wife walk out followed by Lyndy and Wyatt still in each other's arms. Ty smiled taking his wife's hand as they walked to the cafeteria. The food was actually pretty good but it was a quiet dinner. Amy and Ty did most of the talking as Lyndy and Wyatt continued to sit close. Finally Wyatt broke his silence. "Dr. Borden do you think she will be Ok?" Ty took a breath and answered his question committing to him he would be open with the information.

"Well the good thing is that they have her on the right medications and based on what I have seen she will improve. With a stroke the unknown is what she will be like when she wakes up. There could be physical or mental changes and limitations. If the stroke affected the right side of the brain there may be limping or arm limitations on the left side of the body. There may be mental issues, confusion, disorientation or the inability to do normal functions – tie shoes or button up a shirt." He took a breath to see if he had any questions. After silence he continued, "The positive thing is that the EEG or brain scan showed minimal areas of damage. Now normal aging will show darker areas and her TIAs will also look like scarring. So since the scan didn't show anything larger, that is good. It means that there are no major signs of brain damage. Now let me say, even with that we still just don't know. We will just need to see when she wakes up." Almost on cue, Ty's phone pinged with a text. "It's the nurse, she is coming around. Amy can you take them and I will settle up here." They quickly headed for the room. As they walked through the door, Wyatt immediately saw several of the staff around his Grandma. The head nurse walked over to them, "Guys everything is Ok but your grandma woke up and had a very slight panic attack. She kept asking for you but we have her settled now and can wake her up. But we need you next to her so she can be at ease. Wyatt we need you to be calm and reassuring, her mind is still a little fuzzy." He stood up straight and confidently said, "Yes I can." He headed over to her bedside and took his seat. He motioned for Lyndy to join him. "We need you Lyndy." She smiled and as Amy stood back the staff revived June.

As they watched, Grandma June's eyes fluttered open. At first she looked oddly at them but then her face opened up as she whispered, "Wyatt, it's you." She looked around and saw Lyndy and Amy and now Ty as well as he had just entered the room. She focused and smiled again, "Well look the gangs all here." It was like the entire room sighed in relief all at once. The nurse immediately looked over the vitals and smiled to the other nurse. She looked over to Amy and Ty ensuring them all was well. She looked again at her grandson and took his hand along with Lyndy's. "Honey are you Ok, what happened to me?" He smiled amazed that she was more worried about him than herself. Ty stepped up and calmed Wyatt. "If it is OK Wyatt, I will fill your grandma in." Wyatt and Lyndy smiled thanking him with their eyes. Ty began going over all the details with her including all aspects of what happened. The doctor joined him and got into more details and most important to her the recovery process. "Mrs. Miller, you will have a therapy regimen and medical checkups regularly. Once you are ready you can go back to your residential facility. All of the rehab stuff can be done there as well." He asked her if she had any questions and thanked Ty for his help. Amy walked over to him and put her arm around her man leaning into his neck whispering, "Dr. Borden, you are amazing and I love you." As the doctor left June's niece walked in with a look of relief, "June you are awake, I am so happy." After a quick overview for her, Amy and Ty left hugging Wyatt, June and walking out with their daughter. "Lyndy let us know if you guys need anything. And be there for him, he needs you. We love you." She headed back as Amy and Ty headed home.

Although it was a little late the girls were waiting for them in the dining room. As Amy and Ty walked in they talked with Katie and Clay and thanked them for their help. The girls let their mom and Dad get settled and then had a bunch of questions. Maddie asked, Mom, how is Grandma June, is she OK. And how is Wyatt doing, is he OK, and Lyndy how about her, I have been so worried." As usual, Amy took ahold of her shoulders to calm her down. "Honey give us a second and we will give all three of you an update. But first off, everyone is doing fine. We still don't know how Wyatt's Grandma will recover because it is early. The doctors feel good about her prognosis so all we can do is pray for her and be there for Wyatt and Lyndy." They all three smiled and Ty went into more details, explaining it in a way they could understand. After a few more questions, the kids got ready for bed. As Amy and Ty tucked them in they reassured them that things will be alright. They needed to be there for Wyatt and especially their sister. Amy and Ty got ready for bed and when there held each other tightly. Seeing June like she was reminded Amy of her Grandpa's health scare and she whispered, "I need to ask Grandpa how he is feeling. Seeing June reminded me of what he went through and I haven't asked him about it in a while." Ty pulled her in for a tighter hug realizing that his wife felt bad about not talking to him. He kissed her and began moving down to her neck and chest. "Ty, what are you doing?" she cooed. He continued his assault of her with his lips and whispered, "Showing you how much I love you." He continued moving down her naked body pleasing her in his own special way. She moaned with delight as he helped her forget everything else going on around her for a while. As they experienced their intimate moment she felt a love that was familiar and warm. They reached their apex of love and rolled next to each other trying to come down from their sensual high. She spoke breathlessly, "Ty watching you tonight comforting Wyatt and Lyndy was amazing, you were wonderful." He smiled as she continued, "And that thing you just did wasn't too bad either" They hugged each other and fell into a blissful sleep.

The next morning after they had a comfortable breakfast they talked about going to the hospital. Annie spoke up, "Mom we need to bring JT, Grandma June really loves him and he always brings joy to everyone he is with. I think it would help her." Ty and Amy looked at each other and decided they would pick him up from the Stillman's on the way. Before they got ready to leave, Amy called ahead to her niece. June had a good night and when asked if she wanted the Borden's to visit and she smiled shaking her head yes. The she spoke up, "I hope JT is coming too?" The family smiled when Amy told them what she had said. The visit went really well and seemed to lift June's spirits, especially when JT sat with her for a bit. They were having a private conversation. Amy and Ty watched with pride as their little boy was totally focused on Grandma June as they talked in hushed tones. When they finished Maddie asked him what they talked about. He looked over to her and winked, "That's; just for me and Grandma June to know." Everyone laughed. After a while Maddie convinced Wyatt and Lyndy to come home for a bit, only when Ty agreed to bring them back after dinner.

The Borden's and Wyatt were invited to dinner at Heartland and to be honest, Amy and Ty were happy about not having to cook. Jack had asked them directly, which was not normal but they didn't think anything of it. When they arrived they walked in and saw Lou, Lisa and Casey in the kitchen while Jack, Scott and Tim were walking in from the barn. Jack went out of his way to hug Amy and the kids, even bringing Ty in for one. Amy and Ty looked at each other confused with his not so typical actions. The girls set up the table and they noticed, Katie, Clay, Steven and Georgie carrying the twins with them coming in the house. Lyndy and Wyatt immediately grabbed them toddlers to keep them occupied. Lyndy sensed something was up so she got all the kids rounded up and took them all to the barn to see all the horses. Jack looked over to her and smiled, realizing how perceptive she was. So, all that was left was the adults as Jack asked that they all come to the dining room table. Amy and Lou's eyes were wide as he sat down next to Lisa at the head of the table. Ty spoke up, "Jack what's going on?" He smiled, "Well Lisa and I do have a motive for tonight's dinner. I had my 6-month checkup and the doctor found a shadow that may be my cancer returning. Amy and Lou's eyes watered up immediately as they gasped and held on to their husbands. Georgie began to cry and Katie was right behind her in tears. Steven and Clay did their best to comfort them but the man they looked up to more than anyone else had just old them devastating news. Lisa spoke as Jack tried to regain his composure. "Girls I know this is scary, but we always knew that this was a possibility. But we don't know yet for sure, the doctor said the results will be back on Monday so we will know more then. On a positive note the team felt that if it is cancerous it did seem to be a much smaller mass and treatment should take care of everything." As the group settled Lyndy, Wyatt and the kids came back. Dinner was good as the family got updates on Grandma June and everything else going on.

After dinner Jack asked Amy, Lou, Georgie and Katie if they wanted to go for a walk. He wanted to spend some time with his girls and talk to them. "Now before you all go start blaming yourselves, don't. There is nothing any one of you could have done and like Lisa said, if the outcome is not what we want, then we deal. They anticipate that this will be a little easier to beat, so let's just all think positive thoughts." The girls all hugged him with teary eyes. Amy whimpered, "Oh Grandpa, I just talked to Ty last night how I needed to ask you how you were doing. I shouldn't have waited, maybe…" "Now young lady, don't even think that way, you know I am not the most open person sometimes. But I promise, I will be better. I have a favor to ask of all of you. Lisa is strong but this has shook her. She acts strong but I know she is very worried. I need the four of you be there for her, check in every so often. But I need you to be discreet. You can't be obvious about it but you would be doing me a huge favor being there for her." The girls all committed their support. Lou added, "Grandpa, I am going to bring Casey and Lilly into our group as well. Lilly and Lisa have become very close and I think she will definitely be there to help her deal with everything." Jack laughed, "well it seems she had already talked to her because as we speak, Lilly and Max are on their way." Amy smiled thinking of how wonderful it was of them. It felt good to see how much Lilly meant to Lisa and the family. But most of all she was excited about how Ty would feel about his mom, it made her understand just how far they had come.

Over the next few weeks June improved and was able to go back to the Senior Residence Center. She was diligent with her therapy and the Borden girls had made sure that someone from the family was always there. They missed a little school but it was worth it. Wyatt couldn't thank them enough and Grandma June was improving each and every day. There would be a few minor long-term effects but over all her prognosis was for a full recovery. Jack's news was also positive. His cancer had returned but at a low level and the doctors felt with a few treatments it would go in remission. Sure enough just after two sessions it was regressing. After round two the medical team decided he would just need one more treatment. For every session Lisa had Lilly along with one or two of the Borden kids with her. Amy, Lou, Casey and Georgie took turns as well. Katie had wanted to but she was really busy at school. But with the Borden girls they would take turns being with him at dinner to help him deal with the side effects. He loved having all of the women in his life there for him. As with every challenge the family, especially the Borden's were there. Amy and Ty made sure their kids understood that family was everything and being there for each other was the most important thing that all of them had to focus on. They marveled at all of their children's compassion and love. As parents it made them love each of them more and more each and every day.
