Hello everyone, this is the author of A Gentleman in Remnant and I do hope for those who have stayed through this story have enjoyed it. This is my Author Notes as we came to an end with Volume 1 and before the start of Volume 2.
This crazy idea of a crossover came to be after a series of events: Watching Doctor Who for the first time, RWBY Volume 9, and RWBY x Justice League. It took about a month or two to plan out what I exactly wanted for this story to be. At first, the idea would be a future incarnation of the Doctor we all know and love, then the next idea would have been a different time lord with a different name and not the Doctor, but in the end, I decided to stick with a different time lord who chooses to become like the Doctor.
If I were to choose any actor to voice the first doctor of this story, it would be Ben Whishaw. So if you have heard him in movies, shows, or plays, then you'll finally picture how the 1st Doctor would sound like. This 1st Doctor is based off my two favorite Doctors: 10 who I love and 12 who I connect with most. I wanted to make this Doctor young like 10 but also having the personality of 12 in the later series. His TARDIS also resembles more of 12th interior but also looks like a futuristic library.
Obviously, you can't make a Doctor Who x RWBY crossover without Team RWBY of course. They will be the main companions and family to the 1st Doctor as he explores this new universe that isn't his. He will make many friends but lots of enemies. A suggestion came from a friend about making this a multiverse story where the Doctor travelled across different universes. Wasn't a big fan of it at first because almost everything has to do with multiverse. Eventually, the idea came of this Doctor crashing into the universe of RWBY where he is remaining.
This Doctor also has a Dalek companion with him by the name of Dalek Khan, and no, he isn't Dalek Caan from the Cult of Skaro. When I saw the episode Dalek and Into the Dalek, those two episodes made me wonder what if one of the Doctor's greatest enemies would be his companion. That's where I took that opportunity to have the Doctor and Dalek Khan be partners in this story. It was a funny idea in mind to have Ruby and Dalek Khan turn out to be besties simply because their love for weapons and it just feels like it be a chaotic and worthy friendship.
The dynamic bond of this Doctor with Team RWBY will be a special one as this was the Doctor's family since losing his parents in the Time War. With Ruby, Blake, and Yang, they are like sisters to him while they see an older, wiser, and idiotic brother that loves to have fun but also protect them. With Weiss is a different feeling and a deeper one as well. I know not many are into romance in Doctor Who, but I thought of giving it a shot of making these two form something special right from the beginning when I planned this story because the both of them have a way of understanding each other especially with the troubles and they would be the comfort they need. It was a bittersweet ending for the Doctor and Weiss by the end of Volume 1 with her memories of him being erased. I had many different scenarios planned out, hard ones to choose, and did drafts of them as well as I already had it planned that the Doctor and Weiss would not be together in the end of Volume 1.
I did not want to bring in many Who monsters into the story as it would feel like I'm being lazy which is why I got some inspiration from Who monsters and other media monsters to create my own such as Dr. Pavel and the plant creatures like Oxthordol King and Vine Weiss. But that didn't mean we wouldn't see any Who monsters at all in Volume 1. I thought about bringing one Who monster to be a big threat for the gang and the Doctor which would be the Weeping Angels. Been hyping them up for a while and did not want to waste time on showing how dangerous they could be and the danger that came. And while no one except for the Doctor and Dalek Khan remembers what occurred when the Angels took over, it would be the huge mark onto this Doctor as he tries to find who he truly is and what he is here for.
In the beginning after regaining his memories, I wanted to have the Doctor basically be a copy of the original Doctor. To try to think like him, act like him, and other things as well but as time passed on and more danger was coming, I decided to bring the pressure on the Doctor to the point where it drove him to decide he's not the Doctor. All that anger is what led him to being the Time Lord Victorious. Now I do hate saying this, but it wasn't a long plan to keep him as the Time Lord Victorious simply because I wanted to have him think he could be something better without knowing the consequences: Beginning with the drifting away from Team RWBY to the fall of Beacon academy. The attack from the Weeping Angels and the Fall of Beacon is what drives him to realize he is not that either. In the end of Volume 1 would be the beginning of this Doctor finding who he is and his purpose. He is back to being called the Doctor as he will slowly accept it as his own and not copying the Original Doctor in Volume 2.
That being said, Volume 2 will focus on The Doctor continuing to save planets while also dealing with Salem and her team as well as still finding himself. As for Team RWBY, it'll pretty much be the same as the show where we will see what the girls have been up to a year after the fall of Beacon and ultimately having them reunite. There will be more danger, more depth moments, and big threats. This Volume, I'm bringing in more Who monsters with one of them being the secondary antagonist of the story. This Volume will also dig deeper into the question of who Cinder Fall really is after we find out that she's also a time lord. Originally, I stuck with the plan of killing her but hearing thoughts from good friends and having time to think about it, I thought it would be more interesting to do something new with her which be that she's a time lord. This volume will also heavily focus on Weiss and her new powers growing after observing the time vortex and receiving a regeneration from the Doctor. We will also have the universal threat come our way with the void of destruction as the elder sylph mentioned and that will be a huge focus for The Doctor.
The plan for this story will be to make 5 different volumes with the very last volume introducing the 2nd Doctor to Team RWBY. As an Ood once said, this song is ending but the story never ends. To sum it up easier: Voume 1 of this story will cover RWBY Volume 1-3, Volume 2 will cover Volume 4-6, Volume 3 will cover Volume 7-9, and Volume 4 will cover my own version of Volume 10 which will also be the 1st Doctor final volume. A big thank you to all the readers reading and enjoying my story, I hope you continue enjoying it as this weekend, I will begin on Volume 2 and sneak peek of the next Who threat in Remnant. I will also be upgrading chapters from Volume 1 if it fits with the chapter, it's about so you'll be seeing changes if you decide to revisit first few chapters. I will admit I rushed a lot through the first chapters out of excitement for making thr story but it will be better little by little. Thank you guys once again and keep an eye out for Volume 2, Chapter 1 this upcoming week.
