I love Janto: Exactly! Diane doesn't need a man to make her feel complete, what she needs is to be free and loving Owen will only hold her back. She's an adventurer given the opportunity for the adventure of a lifetime, there's no way she'll give that up to stay with any man. Thank you.

Guest: Very few characters got treated well by the writers, Owen was as unlucky in love as Tosh. Knowing about Owen's past with Katie makes this episode even more poignant. He locked his heart away for a long time, afraid of loving and risking being hurt again. The moment he starts to feel ready to move on and opens his heart to Diane, she shatters it by leaving him.
Jack's behaviour towards Gwen is incomprehensible to me. I can only think he's confusing her with someone he used to know, or he sees himself in her, because they're both so stubborn. Honestly though, the way he treats her makes no sense. I didn't bother watching Miracle Day - I won't read fic set around MD either because to me, it's not Torchwood. Torchwood is Cardiff, the team, the Rift, the Hub, everything that was destroyed in CoE (which I also ignore). Neither script was originally written for Torchwood, therefore to my way of thinking, they aren't Torchwood, they're original dramas with Torchwood pasted on in order to get them made. That's bad practice because it makes a mockery of the Torchwood - and by extension, the wider Doctor Who - universe. Recycling unmade scripts instead of writing something that fits the characters and setting of a show is lazy.
Thank you.

Coming down into the Hub on the invisible lift, Jack was treated to a very stimulating view of Ianto, on hands and knees, peering into the Rift pool.
"Loving the view, Ianto!" he grinned. "Mind if I ask what you're doing?"
"We have Newts!"
"Oh. That sounds bad." Jack frowned. "How do we get rid of them?"
Ianto looked horrified.
"We don't! I'm pretty sure they're Great Crested. Do you have any idea how endangered they are? We should consider ourselves lucky, they're a protected species."
"Really?" Jack peered at the Newts. "Looks like Torchwood's branching out into nature conservation."
