"Son ta ha" The chant echoed through the Sontaran fleet as the residents of the planet below seemed to be oblivious to their presence. None of them had any idea a small number of humans and two Time Lords were watching their every move.
"Yaz!" Ten turned to see the bewildered young woman staring at the computer screen. "You ok?" Yaz nodded, wiping her eye as they filled with tears.
"Me? Yeah." She nodded. "Getting used to who knows what trying to blow up my home planet now." She kept her eyes on the screen as Ten nodded.
"Earth does attract attention. Not all of it good."
"Yeah."
"It is me, Yaz. I know I look different, sound different. But it is me. Somewhere in here." He tapped his temple. "The memories are still there."
Yaz narrowed her eyes before turning to him.
"Regeneration. I get it. I do." She folded her arms. "I was there when the Master forced her to regenerate. When we working out how to turn her back into herself. So don't try to tell me what it is and what it means." She glared at him. "I was there. I saw it all. I FACED down the Master. So don't even start with me. If you had regenerated then she wouldn't be here. There was only ever supposed to be one Doctor. And she is getting on with the job. Stop the Sontarans Everything else can wait."
"She's right." Ten nodded as Ian spoke. "It's a long time since we travelled together. You, Barbara, Susan and I but that's what I remember most. Get the job done."
"Barbara? How?"
"Advanced Dementia. She's in a wonderful nursing home."
Both Doctors winced.
"And Susan? What if her? Ian asked, almost afraid of the answer. Ten sighed.
"There was a War. A Time War."
Thirteen's shoulders dipped as she turned away from the board. "A Time War. Daleks and Gallifey. And before you ask, no one won. War isn't like that. Susan's gone. Now can we get on? Before the Sontarans do anything else? Yes, right. Thank you."
Graham and Ace exchanged glances.
"Right you are, Doc." He rubbed his hands together. "What's the plan?"
Thirteenth sighed slightly. "Because there is a plan isn't there? Doc?"
"Work in progress."/p
"There's no plan." Tegan rolled her eyes as Thirteen shrugged.
"Like I said work in progress. Now what do they want?"
"Horse riding lessons from the last time they were 'ere"
Thirteen raised an eyebrow.
"As a species they are a war machine. Genetically engineered to kill. It's all they want to do."
"Imagine a psychotically evil Mr Potato Head on a power trip." Ace joined in. "But why 21st Century Earth? What's so special about now?"
"Good questions. "
"And the answers?" Graham asked.
"Will be equally good. When we get them." She sighed. "Dan?"
"Yeah?"
"You remember when they were in Liverpool?"
"And I went after one with me Mam's best wok? Yeah. Why?"
"Might be time to get the wok back out. I might just have an idea."
