Sunday morning Annie was sitting with Josh on Teddy and Owen's front steps.

"Annie, do you think Ellie," Josh asked.

"Allie said she smelled like vodka," Annie said, "she was drinking."

"How did she get it," Josh asked.

"That's what we have to find out," Annie said, "and she's not going to Courtney's again."

"The text said they brought another girl home," Josh said.

"I don't know," Annie replied, "mama and Uncle Owen are out."

"We could go in," Josh said.

"I want to wait for her here," Annie said, "the boys are hiking with Faroke."

"Faroke is going to propose," Josh said.

"He is," Annie smiled, "remember when he first came home?"

"We got him hyper on smores on your mama's birthday," Josh smiled.

"He had never had marshmallows, he was 10," Annie smiled, "we were what 24?"

"You were," Josh said, "I was 25."

"I like Nisha," Annie said, "she's good for him."

"I like her two," Josh agreed, "remember our little cousin though."

"I know," Annie said, "they had just found Megan and she had gotten her transplant, mama and uncle Owen were just together, she was pregnant with Allison."

"Uncle Nate said the divorce is final," Josh said, "how do we? They're both family."

"I talked to her," Annie said, "he'll still do big things like thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas and Easter with us because of Catrina. It'll be like the last couple years I think."

"He's my last connection to my dad," Josh said.

"I know," Annie agreed, "Ian would have loved seeing all our kids."

"He would have," Josh agreed, "uncle Nathan is my only tie to that side. We can't lose him."

"We won't and we keep having him for dinner and doing things with him," Annie said.

"Did you ever find out why," Josh asked, "he won't tell me."

"Megan has told me but asked me not to tell you," Annie admitted.

"What happened," Josh asked

"I can't say," Annie replied.

"Did one of them cheat," Josh asked, "she's been cozy with Hayes lately."

Annie nodded.

"He did," Josh said.

Annie nodded again.

"Is Megan okay," Josh asked.

"She's doing it her way," Annie said, "she always does."

"Auntie Meg with someone else though," Josh said, "she was with uncle Nate then she was gone and then found when were were interns and they were together."

"It was the myth of Megan for years," Annie said, "I knew about her and had her national."

"Doesn't Ellie have it," Josh asked.

"It's her turn," Annie smiled, "Nana made it for Meg and all but mama and Catrina will wear it. I bet we see Heather in it one day."

"Her name," Josh said.

"We'll add it in time," Annie said, "Nana put Ellie's in the vest. I can't believe how well that's held up."

"You had it longest," Josh said.

"I did but only I wore it for 4 or 5 years I think I was 16 when Mom and Dad bought it then I wore it until Matt was born," Annie said.

"You didn't wear it much then," Josh said.

"It's doing pretty good for a 40 year old outfit," Annie said, "I had my own blouse and under skirt because Meg's were too long for me and it was easier for grandma to make me new ones than hem them. Allison got her own and I bought Ellie a set. That's what actually touches our skin anyway."

At the hospital Faroke scrubbed in with Megan.

"Mom," Faroke said.

"It's been a while since you've been in my OR," Megan smiled.

"Annie and auntie Teddy suggested we didn't," Faroke said.

"They're the same specialty," Megan said, "so they spent more OR time together. I've only ever seen Teddy push Annie like that."

"Are you okay mom," Faroke asked, "with dad?"

"I'm coming to terms with it," Megan admitted.

"Are you sure," Faroke asked, "mom what happened?"

"That's between us," Megan said, "we will not be telling you and Cat."

"Mom," Faroke asked, "dad's still in the house are you safe?"

"Yes," Megan assured, "dad and I just grew apart buddy."

"Are you sure," Faroke asked.

"I'm good," Megan assured, "I'm going to start going out once in a while with people other than Kepner or Teddy and Annie."

"A guy," Faroke asked.

"Maybe," Megan agreed not wanting to say anything just yet but her date the night before had gone well.

"These burns are full thickness," Faroke said, "page cardio."

"Yang," the scrub nurse asked.

"No Altmans," Faroke asked.

"No," an intern said.

"I wanted Auntie Teddy," Faroke said.

"What's wrong," Megan asked.

"I don't know how to save these lungs she will," Faroke said, "mom I don't know what to do."

"Yang will," Megan said.

"Dad is here," Faroke said.

"I can work with him," Megan assured, "page Nathan Riggs."

Nathan scrubbed in with them.

"Meg," Nathan said.

"We're at work," Megan said, "Nathan we're still friends. With two kids."

"Two and a half," Nathan joked.

"Half," Megan questioned.

"Nisha," Nathan said.

"I'm going to propose," Faroke said, "I bought a ring."

"When," Megan asked.

"Tonight," Faroke said.

"You didn't say," Nathan said.

"I didn't want to hurt either of you," Faroke replied.

"Do you need help," Megan asked, "ideas?"

"Josh helped," Faroke replied, "and Annie."

"His proposal to her was good," Nathan remembered.

"So was Owen's to Teddy," Megan remembered.

"I remember that," Faroke said, "my first Christmas here."

"The cabin," Megan agreed, "will it just be the two of you?"

"It will," Faroke said, "I talked to her dad last time we visited."

"Good," Nathan said, "he was positive?"

"Very," Faroke agreed, "are you okay with this?"

"I am," Megan said, "I love Nisha. She gets you and your story. She's the right fit."

"I'm excited for you," Nathan said.

"Will Cat be okay," Faroke asked.

"She loves Nisha," Megan said, "calls her her big sister. I know Allie and Ellie like her."

"She really likes Asher," Faroke said.

"I do two," Megan agreed.

"I'm coming around," Faroke said, "I still don't know if Leo likes or tolerates him."

"Leo is being Leo," Megan said, "anything that makes him wonder if he fits he's going to fight. We saw Annie struggle when Teddy was pregnant with Allison."

"I don't know if that wasn't internitis," Nathan said, "she was going through a lot with the McKellars, being an intern, they were under huge pressure with Owen and Teddy, there was all the gossip."

"But even at home she got jealous of Teddy's time," Megan said, "Leo does so does Allison."

"It's hard when you've been an only child to adjust and having your parents here as attendings. That's why I didn't start my residency here," Faroke said.

"I understand that," Nathan said, "I had reservations when Josh wanted to come here. He applied to other places but Annie was his deciding factor."

"Did they look at other places," Faroke asked.

"I know Teddy made her and I pushed him to," Nathan said, "Josh had some east coast ones but chose here after a sub internship."

"Annie," Faroke said.

"Probably," Megan agreed, "you and Nisha, you're ready."

"Will it change much," Faroke asked, "we've lived together for a couple years."

"Yes and no," Megan said, "talk to your cousins about that."

"It's weird sometimes," Faroke said, "they were already drs when I met them."

"15 and 16 years older than you," Megan said, "it's different."

"And Allison lives with Asher," Faroke said, "and auntie Teddy and Uncle Owen."

"You're all growing up," Megan sighed.

"Mom we've come a long way," Faroke said, "from where I was born and you adopting me."

"We have," Megan agreed.

Asher drove down the high way from the camp site towards home.

Everly began to cry and complain in her carseat.

"Ellie, can you check her braces," Allison asked.

"Do you want me to undo them," Ellie asked.

"Check the joints and the straps to make sure they're not pinching her," Ellie said.

Allison fiddled with the braces but Everly kept crying.

"Asher pull over," Allison said, "that cry."

"It's not pain,'' Asher said.

"She's over-stimulated I think," Allison said, "I need to hold her and calm her."

"We're 40 minutes from home," Tyson said, "can she wait?"

"No," Asher said.

"Ellie can you hold her hands until the next rest stop," Allison asked.

Ellie leaned towards the carseat and tried to hold Everly's hand.

"No," Everly whined.

"You're okay princess," Asher tried, "we'll stop in a minute."

Asher pulled over in a rest stop, Allison leapt out of the truck and opened the back door.

"Hi princess," Allison said, unstrapping Everly and picking her up, "I know baby. I know it's nap time and you want to be in your own bed. I know."

"What can we do," Ellie asked.

"Nothing," Asher said.

Asher stood with Allison and put his hand on Everly's back.

"Shh princess," Asher said, "we're almost home. We're going to get you home and put you in your crib."

"You know what we didn't do," Allison said.

"Here," Asher said, "now?"

"You and Tyson go for a walk," Allison said.

"Ellie," Asher asked.

"Let her choose," Allison said.

"Allie how can I help," Ellie asked.

"Can we make it home," Asher asked.

"I can try to settle her and give her her soother but," Allison said.

"Let's try to get home," Asher said, "do you think we can?"

"She's really off her routine," Allison said, "she's going to keep fussing until she gets milk and a nap."

"What can I do," Ellie asked.

"Nothing," Allison said, "she's calming. I think holding her helps."

"Her soother," Ellie asked.

"Grab one for me," Allison directed.

Ellie dug the soother out and passed it to Allison. As soon as it was offered to her Everly threw it on the ground.

"Allie when I helped pack up your cooler theres part of a jug of milk in there," Ellie offered.

"There is," Allison remembered, "if I get her sippy cup can you give it to her in the back seat at least watch she doesn't choke."

"I will," Ellie said.

"I'll do the cup," Asher said.

"Ev daddy's going to get your cup and we're going to have some milk," Allison said, "then we're going to drive home."

Once they gave Everly her milk she settled back into her car seat happily with her sippy cup.

When they reached Teddy and Owen's Ellie jumped out of the truck and ran to Annie and Josh.

"Mom," Ellie yelled, "Dad!"

"Hi Ellie bug," Annie said hugging her daughter.

"Mom it was scary," Ellie cried.

"I know bug," Annie agreed, "you did the right thing."

Josh approached Asher, "thanks for looking after her."

"She's family," Asher said.

Josh took money out of his pocket, "for gas and feeding her."

"Josh," Asher said, "we were driving it anyway and that's too much."

"Asher we insist," Josh said, "please."

"Josh it's too much," Asher said.

"Asher take it," Josh said.

"No," Asher argued, 'it's what family does. How many times have you and Annie planned and paid for family things."

"Your family," Josh said.

"Josh it's okay," Asher said, "I was driving it anyway."

"Asher," Josh said.

"No," Asher said, "it's okay."

"Can I help you unload while the three of them talk," Josh asked.

"Please," Asher said, "we have your tent but I want to set it up and air it out before I return it."

"We're camping tomorrow it's okay," Josh said, "just throw it in my truck."

As he helped unload Josh found an opportunity to slip the cash in Asher's glovebox .

"Girls what happened," Annie asked.

"When we ran into Ellie she looked like she was going to cry," Allison said.

"Courtney's parents were drinking and they had pot and it was scary and I didn't know what to do," Ellie said.

"What about the other kids," Annie asked.

"Bella came with us," Ellie said, "Ava is her neighbour and took her home."

"You did the right thing," Josh said, "Ellie telling Allie you were scared was the right thing."

"Dad they had drugs," Ellie said, "and there was alcohol and I didn't know how to say no. I had some. I didn't like it and I felt weird."

"You're telling us and being honest," Josh said.

"Ellie we want your honesty," Annie said, "you got home safe."

"How do I say no," Ellie asked.

"We'll work on strategies," Josh said.

"I have a few," Annie replied, "the old my mom will kill me always works."

"But I'm not cool," Ellie said.

"Why do you need to be," Annie asked, "I've never been cool."

"But I just want to fit in," Ellie whined.

"You are you," Annie said.

"Ellie don't be like those girls," Allison said, "I've been one and spent a lot of time with them and they're no fun. I like you better. You are cool."

"But I like to read and paint and I don't like to party," Ellie said.

"So that's you," Annie said, "you do what makes you happy and you find your people."

"What about you," Ellie asked.

"It took me till med school to really find my people," Annie admitted.

"We two bug," Josh said, "your mom was the first time another person just got me."

"But high school," Ellie said.

"Should not be the best time of your life," Annie said.

"What about," Ellie asked.

"No," Josh said, "our best years were after we got married."

"Our kids," Annie said, "the best is still coming. Ellie it would be pretty sad if highschool is the best time of your life."

"Mom," Ellie groaned.

"She's right," Josh agreed, "I knew those people but I don't bother with them now. I don't need to relive highschool."

"The only person from that era I still talk to is Cassie," Annie said.

"And we only see her in BC," Ellie said.

"Once a year is enough," Annie agreed, "this is for now. It's not forever baby."

"Are you mad about me drinking," Ellie asked.

"Disappointed," Josh said, "but you told us you were honest."

"You told us right away and you got help," Annie said, "that was hard but it was the right thing."

"Am I grounded," Ellie asked.

"We'll talk at home but you won't be allowed to go to Courtney's again," Annie said, "now it looks like Everly needs a nap so we'll go."

"Thank you for saving me," Ellie said hugging Allison.

"You can always call me," Allison assured.

"Thank you for being there when I couldn't bean," Annie smiled hugging Allison.

"It's pay back for all the times you've saved me," Allison said.

"We're family," Annie said, "thank you. I love you."

"Love you two," Allison said.
