Allison woke up before her alarm on match day and sat on the edge of the bed anxiously checking her phone for the email.

"Go back to sleep," Asher said.

"Any minute now," Allison said, "Boston, Mass Gen."

"Allie," Asher sighed.

"We said the first choice was Boston," Allison replied, "second is Grey Sloan but I want to leave Seattle Ash."

"I know you do," Asher said, "and I'll go for a few years but this is home. We can go for your residency but we'll come home after."

"Fellowships," Allison replied.

"We'll see where were at," Asher sighed.

Her phone lit up with the email.

"Grey Sloan," Allison sighed, "waitlisted in Boston."

"Allie," Asher said.

"I don't want to go there," Allison complained, "I know they want me and I was a first choice for them but my parents, my aunt, my sister. I just want to go somewhere else and just be me. Be Allison Blouin. Half the reason we changed my name was so I could stand on my own two feet."

'We can stay here," Asher said.

"I can't stay in this house anymore," Allison cried, "leaving was my chance to finally feel like an adult. To finally leave my parents house."

"Then let's buy," Asher said.

"With what money," Allison snapped, "we don't have savings."

"No but you have the money from your nana," Asher said.

"That's for Ev's education," Allison replied.

"Lets use some of it for a down payment," Asher suggested, "Allie lets at least talk to the bank."

"We can move out," Allison asked perking up a bit.

"We will," Asher promised, "it's time Allie. We've only been here so long because you're in school."

"I wanted to finally grow up and move out of Seattle," Allison began to cry. She had held onto hope that she would get placed elsewhere, anywhere other than Grey Sloan, it had been her last choice when she ranked programs. She wanted to go somewhere else, anywhere else just to spread her wings and be free from the expectations of being her parents' daughter. She would have taken a lesser program to get out of Seattle.

"I know you wanted to go," Asher replied, taking her into his arms, "we can look in a few years for your fellowship."

"I wanted to go now," Allison cried, "to finally show I can do this on my own. To get out of their shadows and stop hiding behind my parents. Anywhere except Grey Sloan, I want to be on my own. To be away from them."

"I know you're disappointed," Asher replied, "Allie they're retiring they won't hover forever."

"My sister," Allison complained.

"Set boundaries," Asher insisted, "Ava works there."

"Peds cardiac ICU," Allison replied, "she's done two sets of extra training."

"You keep talking about orthopaedic surgery, can you do it there," Asher asked.

"With Link," Allison replied, "there's people to train me in ortho and peds ortho if I work with Schmidt."

"You can still be an orthopaedic surgeon Allison," Asher assured, "you can do that and you will be great at it."

"I know being here is best for Ev and we can keep her at her school and have her team," Allison replied, "but for me. I wanted this for me. I wanted to go for me. I still want to travel and go help and make a difference but I don't know if I'll ever be able to."

"We will find a way," Asher promised, "if you travel a bit for work you do. Allie you've changed so many of your dreams for Ev and I. I know you wanted to go away. I wanted you to have that opportunity. It would have been hard, we would be totally starting over with everything and on our own but I wanted this for you. I'm sorry. We will look in a few years for your fellowship and apply away then. Can you apply later in your residency?"

"I can watch openings and apply after my intern year," Allison replied.

"Then watch," Asher said, "and when you find something we can go."

"Okay," Allison nodded.

Allison's phone buzzed with texts from Annie and Teddy.

Teddy, "Megan sent out the list. You're staying."

Allison, "ya :("

Teddy, "Allie?"

Allison ,"I wanted to go. I wanted to have a chance like Leo and Annie to prove myself on my own."

Teddy, "I'm sorry baby girl. I know you wanted to go away. I told Meg not to pull strings for you."

Allison, "she probably did :("

Teddy, "I know. That's Megan."

Allison, "I wanted to go to Boston. I liked Mass Gen. I was on my own. I wasn't being judged based on you and dad. I was just Allie Blouin there."

Teddy, "I know you wanted that baby. I'm sorry. I wanted you to have the opportunity as much as I would miss you I wanted you to be able to go."

Allison, "can you do anything?"

Teddy, "I can't. I can help you watch for residency openings in other hospitals and you apply and see what happens. Theres still a chance, it's a not now, not a not ever."

Allison, "I wanted to go now."

Teddy, "I know you did. But you got surgery, you can do ortho."

Allison, "I know but it's not leaving. I wanted to leave to prove that we can stand on our own two feet."

Teddy, "you do. And no one questions that."

Allison, "we still live in your basement."

Teddy, "do you need to?"

Allison, "we have to see what we can do."

Teddy, "as much as dad and I love having you here it might help you if you move out. You've talked about it before."

Allison, 'we will it's just where and what."

Teddy, "I will miss you."

Allison, "so will I."

Allison finished getting ready for the day and got Everly up for school.

"Mommy why are you sad," Everly asked.

"Because I didn't get the job I really wanted," Allison replied, "I'm disappointed."

"Can you not be a surgeon," Everly asked.

"I will be," Allison said, 'but at Grey Sloan with Grandma, Grandpa and your aunt and uncle."

"We're not moving," Everly asked.

"We're not," Allison sighed, "I know you were excited for a new adventure."

"But we can still see Grandma and Grandpa every day," Everly asked.

"Most days," Allison agreed, "and you can stay at your school and with your friends."

"Yay," Everly cheered.

Allison helped Ev get ready for school and with breakfast before they walked to the car.

"Grandpa we're staying," Everly yelled to Owen.

"Are you," Owen asked, "Allie you got surgery at GSM?"

"Sadly," Allison shrugged, 'it was my last choice. Dad it was seriously my final choice."

"I know you're disappointed," Owen said.

"I'm the only one who didn't get their first choice in the family," Allison snapped as Everly got in the car.

"I know," Owen replied.

"You did, mom did, Annie, Leo," Allison complained, "but I'm never good enough."

"You are," Owen said, "Grey Sloan chose you. They never take anyone they don't want to."

"But I don't want it," Allison said, "dad I don't want to stay there. The first chance I have I'm out of there. I don't want to be in your shadow or moms or Annie's. I need to be me."

"I know munchkin," Owen said, "we will talk later. You have to get to school. Put on your happy face at school. You got a top 3 residency spot in your speciality you wanted."

"I know," Allison said, 'it's just not my first choice."

"I know," Owen said, "but you will still be an orthopaedic surgeon. And you will be an incredible one."

"I want to help kids like Ev," Allison said.

"And you will," Owen promised.
