Steve is sitting in a broken down building drinking, Peggy walks in. A man over the radio says that the blackout is still in effect throughout London and that all citizens should stay indoors until further notice.
Steve says that Erskine said that the serum wouldn't only effect his muscles but it would also effect his cells and create a system of regeneration and healing.
"In other words, you also have superhuman metabolism." Sam said.
Steve says that that means he can't get drunk.
"That's terrible." Tony said.
Peggy says that his metabolism burns four times faster than the average person and that Erskine thought it would be a side effect.
"I should introduce you to Asgardian mead sometime." Thor said. Steve smiled.
Peggy tells Steve that Bucky's death wasn't his fault.
"It wasn't, Steve. What happened to me was never your fault in any way." Bucky said. "I chose to get on that train... I knew what might happen if I did."
Steve asks if she read the reports.
Peggy says she did.
Steve tells her that she should no that what she said isn't true.
"Steve. Listen to me it is not your fault." Bucky said.
"But it is, I didn't reach you quick enough and you fell." Steve protested.
"Steve please, don't blame yourself." Bucky said.
Peggy tells him he did everything he could and asks if he respected Bucky and if he believed in him. Steve looked at her as if the answer was obvious. Peggy tells him to stop blaming himself and to allow Bucky the dignity of his choice because he must have thought Steve was worth is.
Steve says he's going after Schmidt and says he won't stop until all of Hydra is either dead or captured.
Peggy says that he won't be alone.
"You go get that sun of a bitch." Scott said.
Phillips is looking at a map he says that Schmidt belongs in a bug house and says he thinks he's a god and that he's willing to blow up the world to prove it.
"Gods don't typically blow up worlds though." Valkyrie said. Loki gave her a pointed look. "Right, that did happen."
Howard says that Schmidt is working with powers beyond their capabilities and if he gets across the atlantic he'll wipe out the eastern seaboard in an hour.
Jones asks how much time they have.
Howard says that they have less than a day.
"That is not enough time." Thor said.
Dernier asks where Schmidt is currently.
Phillips says that Hydra's last base is in the Alps 500 feet below the surface.
Mortia asks what they're supposed to do and says that they can't just knock on the front door.
Steve says that that's exactly what they're going to do.
"I hope you meant that in a metaphorical sense." Maria said.
Steve is riding on a motorcycle through the forest, a flock of HYDRA agents start following him, and start shooting. Steve activates a tripwire that lodges itself into two trees, clothes-lining the agents.
"Nice."
He uses the engine on his bike to light one on fire. Two more follow him. Steve gets behind them. He takes the pin out of something and they explode. He puts his shield on the front of his bike as the tank in front of him starts shooting at him. Steve blows the tank up. He gets into the base and starts beating agents. The bike, forgotten runs into a wall, and blows up.
"Not the bike." Peter said.
Steve throws his shield at a tank, when it bounces back it hits an agent. Two agents with flamethrowers come out.
"Okay that is too much." Rocket said, in reference to the flamethrowers.
The two agents start closing in on him. Steve is trapped. The flamethrowers de-activate and a flock of agents now surrounds him.
"And now you're attached to another object by an inclined plane wrapped helically around an axis." Peter said.
"What?" Steve asked.
"You're screwed."
Steve, now captured is walking with two guards holding his hands behind his back, more guards follow. Schmidt says that arrogance isn't a trait unique to Americans but Steve does it better than anybody. He says that there are limits to what he can do and asks if Erskine told him otherwise.
Steve says Erskine told him Schmidt was insane.
Schmidt says that Erskine resented his genius and tried to deny him what was rightfully his but he gave Steve everything, he asks Steve what made him so special.
"Um... he wasn't power hungry." Strange said.
Steve says that he's just a kid from Brooklyn. Schmidt hits him 3 times, Steve is knocked to his knees. Steve says that he could do this all day.
Schmidt says that of course he can but he's on a schedule then goes to shoot him, but gets distracted by three men zip-lining toward the window.
The three men crash through the window and start shooting. Schmidt runs. Falsworth hands Steve his shield.
"Did you plan to get captured?" Thor asked.
"Not exactly, but it worked out either way." Steve answered.
Morita, Falsworth and Dugan all bust through a door. Morita says that they're in and tells the assault team to go in.
The soldiers all start running in. Peggy runs in with them. Both groups are being shot at. Things start blowing up. Inside, Schmidt picks up a dead agents gun.
A dying agent tries to repeat the mantra and take the pill but Phillips kills him before he can.
"Did all of them say that before they killed themselves." Pepper asked.
"Yeah, it was some weird ritual." Steve answered.
Phillips says he's going to find 2 more.
Steve is chasing after Schmidt, who is shooting at him. Steve throws his shield at him, it sticks between the walls.
Another agent starts shooting flamethrowers, Steve ducks behind a wall. Peggy kills him. Steve tells her she's late.
She asks Steve if he was about to chase Schmidt. Steve runs off and grabs his shield, and the doors close.
Schmidt is boarding the Valkyrie. 3 soldiers follow him, he kills them. Schmidt secures the tesseract. Steve gets there, but Schmidt is already taking off.
"You're too late." Happy said.
"I wouldn't be so sure about that." Steve said.
Steve starts running toward it, but he's too late.
Peggy and Phillips pull up next to him and tells Steve to get in. Steve complies. The car starts going faster.
Steve starts standing and says to keep the car steady. he's about to jump when Peggy stops him and kisses him.
Steve turns to Phillips. Phillips says he isn't kissing Steve. Steve jumps
Everyone laughed
Phillips and Peggy skip to a stop, nearly falling off of the cliff.
Sighs of relief were heard.
Steve makes his way inside of the Valkyrie. He notices 3 planes with city names on them 'Chicago, Boston and New York'. agents run past him. Steve kicks one in the head, one pulls out a knife.
"And you said 'Hydras not gonna attack you with a pocket knife.'" Steve said to Howard.
"I wasn't expecting that they would." Howard said.
Steve subdues one, throws the knife at one Punches the last one, and one gets away. Steve releases the 'Boston' plane and it takes one with it. He throws another out of the plan. Another agent gets into a plane and leaves. Steve jumps on the plane, along with another agent. That agent falls into the blades and gets shredded. Steve gets the plane open, the pilot ejects himself, Steve takes his place.
"Nice."
He flies around the Valkyrie, Schmidt fires at him. Steve crashes into the Valkyrie and gets inside. He exits, grabs his shield and enters the cockpit, Schmidt is nowhere to be seen.
"Wait, where'd he go?" Scott asked.
Schmidt appears behind Steve and shoots him and asks if Steve ever gives up.
"He doesn't." Bucky said. "He's stubborn like that."
Steve runs toward him, Schmidt starts shooting. Schmidt drops the gun, then they start fighting. Steve puts him in a choke-hold. They fall over, Steve grabs his shield, Schmidt takes it and hits him with it, then shoves him into the chair. The plane starts to go down.
Schmidt makes his way to the control panel and presses 'Auto-pilot' and tells Steve that he could have had the power of the gods but he wears a flag on his chest and thinks he fights a battle of nations. Schmidt says he's seen the future and there aren't any flags.
"Has he? Seen the future?" Thor asked.
"It is entirely possible, given the fact that he's in possession of an infinity stone but this guy's also crazy so I'd take anything he says with a grain of salt." Strange said.
"The tesseract has shown me things, maybe it's shown him things as well." Loki suggested.
"That does make sense, but what would he have seen?" Steve asked.
He throws the shield at Schmidt and knocks him into the tesseract. Blue energy surrounds him Schmidt asks him what he's done. The tesseract starts glowing, a projection of space appears. Schmidt starts getting sucked into it. He disappears, the tesseract falls to the ground. The tesseract melts a hole in the floor and falls through the plane.
"No joking this time. Where'd he go?" Scott asked.
"I have no idea, all I know is he's not on Earth, may not even be alive anymore." Steve said.
Steve goes over to the captain's chair and notices the plane is still headed for New York. He starts speaking over the radio, asking if anyone reads him.
Morita tries to ask for Steve's location Peggy pushes him away.
SHe asks if Steve's alright.
Steve tells her that Schmidt's dead.
Peggy asks about the plane.
Steve says that that's harder to explain.
Peggy asks for his coordinates and she'll give him a landing site.
"There's not gonna be a safe landing in the middle of the mountains." Quill said, eyes widening in realization.
Steve says that there's no time and that he can try and force the plane down.
Peggy says she can get Howard because he'll know what to do.
Steve says that there's no time and that the plane is moving quickly to New York, he says he's going to put the plane in the water.
Steve squeezed his eyes shut, flashes of crashing, freezing, un-freezing appeared behind his eyes.
Tears appear in Peggy's eyes she asks him not to and says that they can work it out.
Steve says that he's in the middle of nowhere and if he waits any longer people will die, he says that this is his choice. He tells her that he'll need a raincheck on their dance.
Peggy sets up a time and location for their dance and tells Steve not to be late.
Steve says he still doesn't know how to dance.
Peggy says that she'll show him.
Steve says that they can have the band play something slow.
The line goes out and Peggy starts crying. Steve forces the plane down.
Steve looks at Peggy. "Y'know we never did get that dance." He said.
"We didn't did we." She answers. Slow 40s music starts playing. Steve and Peggy start dancing.
Steve's friends are all in a bar drinking. They make a toast to Steve.
Steve smiles sadly.
A submarine in the ocean picked up the tesseract. Howard walks over and the man shows him the energy signature from the tesseract. Howard tells them to move to the next gris point.
The man says that the energy signal stops there and there's no trace of the wreckage.
Howard tells him to keep looking.
'And so the obsession starts.' Tony thought, bitter.
"You never stopped looking did you?" Steve asked.
"There are a lot of people who wanted to find you, Captain. Ablate for a little remembrance, proper funeral everyone thought you were dead. You didn't think finding you that day was a coincidence did you?" Fury asked.
Peggy picks up a file that reports Steve as 'Inactive'. She slides out a picture of skinny Steve. Kids are playing Captain America in the streets.
"The world missed you, pal." Howard explained.
A baseball game is playing on the radio. Steve opens his eyes. Steve sits up in the bed and stares at the radio. A woman, dressed like she's from the 40s walks in and greets him.
Steve asks her where he is.
"The future... present. Well, future for you." Ned said.
She tells him that he's in a recovery room in New York City.
Steve asks where he really is, getting suspicious.
The woman says that she doesn't understand.
Steve refers to the game playing on the radio and says that its from May of 1941 and that he knows because he was there and asks where he is.
"Ooo." Shuri said, awkwardly.
She pushes a button that activates an alarm. Steve asks her who she is. Two agents enter the room, Steve throws them through the wall. Steve jumps through the hole and starts running.
The woman tells him to wait then pulls out a comm and tells the other agents that they have a code 13.
Steve pushes a couple of agents over as he runs out of the building, only to find himself in modern day New York city. SHIELD cars pull up.
Fury apologizes for the show back there but he says he thought it would be best to break it to him slowly.
"I really don't think there was an easy way to break this type of news to him at all." Peggy said.
Steve questions him.
Fury tells him that he's been asleep for almost 70 years. Steve looks around in shock. Fury asks if he'll be okay.
Steve says he had a date.
Steve smiled apologetically and sadly at Peggy. She smiled back.
Steve punches a punching bag, after a moment it breaks and goes flying across the room. Fury asks if he's having trouble sleeping.
Steve asks if he has a mission for him.
Fury says he does.
Steve asks if Fury's trying to get him back into the world.
Fury says he's trying to save the world.
"Because you're here?" Valkyrie guessed. He told her briefly once when the team was drinking about what happened on Earth.
