The avengers are at a party. Sam and Steve are playing pool.
"Oh, I'm there." Sam said.
Rhodey is talking to Tony and Thor. He says that the suit can take the weight so he took the tank and flew it to the general's palace and dropped it at his feet and said 'boom! You looking for this?' They stay silent.
"You two look so unimpressed." Hope said.
Rhodey repeats what he said and asks himself why he even talks to them.
"Poor Rhodey." Maria said.
He says that that story kills everywhere else.
Thor asks of that was the whole story.
Rhodey says that it's a War Machine story.
"Haha, I knew you like the name 'War Machine' better than 'Iron Patriot.'" Tony laughed.
Thor says that the story is impressive.
Everyone laughed at Thor's poor save.
Rhodey mocks his save and asks Tony if Pepper isn't coming.
Tony says that she isn't.
Maria asks about Jane and asks where the ladies are.
Tony says that Pepper has a company to run.
"Don't really have a lot of free time." Pepper said.
Thor says that he isn't sure what country Jane is in. He says that her work with the COnvergence has made her the world's foremost astronomer.
Tony says that the company Pepper runs is the largest tech conglomerate on Earth. He says that it's exciting.
Tony and Thor looked proud of their respective girlfriends.
Thor says that there's been talk of Jane getting a Nobel Prize.
"Okay, now you're just bragging." Sam said.
Maria says that they must be busy because they'd hate missing them get together. She says 'testerone' and coughs to cover the words.
Everyone laughed.
Rhodey asks if she wants a lozenge. They leave.
Thor tells Tony that Jane is better.
"Find a better reason to argue than over who has the better girlfriend." Pepper said.
Sam and Steve are talking. Sam says that it sounded like a hell of a fight and he's sorry he missed it.
Steve says that he would've called him if he knew it would be a firefight.
Sam says that he isn't actually sorry he was just trying to sound tough.
Everyone laughed.
"Yeah, that sounds about right." Sam said.
He says that he's happy tracking cold leads on their missing persons case. "I'm very happy chasing cold leads on our missing persons case."
"Still looking for him?" Natasha asked.
Sam says that Avenging is Steve's world and Steve's world is crazy.
"I'm gonna agree with you on that." Rhodey said.
Sam asks Steve if he's found a place in Brooklyn.
Steve says that he doesn't think that he could afford a place in Brooklyn.
"Cough cough inflation." Peter said.
Sam says that home is home.
A lot of people in the room found that they agreed with that sentiment.
Rhodey is talking to a group of people. He's telling the story again. Everyone laughs. Rhodey nods.
"You look so proud." Tony teased.
Steve and Thor are talking with some soldiers. One of the soldiers says that he has to have some of what Thor's drinking.
Thor tells him no and says that it's been aged for 1,000 years in the barrels built from the wreck of Grunhel's fleet.
"Wow."
Thor says that it isn't meant for mortal men. He pours himself and Steve a glass.
Thor smiled, happy that his future self kept his promise and introduced Steve to Asgardian mead.
Another soldier(Stan Lee) says that Omaha beach wasn't either and tells Thor to stop trying to scare them. Thor pours him some. Later, the man is being escorted out. He slurs the word 'Excelsior.'
Everyone laughed.
"I hope he's okay." Steve said.
Natasha is behind the bar, pouring drinks. Bruce walks up to her and asks how a girl like her wound up in a place like that.
Natasha says that a feller done her wrong.
Bruce tells her that she has lousy taste in men.
Natasha says that he isn't so bad. She says he has a temper but deep down he's all fluff.
Everyone looked confused. Are... are they flirting.
She says that he isn't like anyone she's ever knows. She says that all her friends are fighters and here's this guy who spends his life avoiding fights because he knows he'll win.
Bruce says he sounds amazing.
Natasha says that he's also a huge dork but chicks dig that.
"Why do I feel like that's not true?" Peter asked.
"Because high school girls' fragile egos cant handle being seen with someone less than them." MJ said.
Natasha asks him if he thinks she should fight this or run with it.
Bruce tells her to run with it then asks her what he did that was so wrong to her.
"You're so awkward, Bruce." Tony said.
Natasha says he didn't do a damn thing then tells him not to say never.
Steve says that it's nice.
"Were you there that whole time?" Sam asked.
Bruce asks what's nice.
Steve says that him and Natasha are.
"We're not..." Bruce and Natasha said simultaneously.
Bruce says that they haven't.
Steve says that nobody's breaking by-laws. He says that Natasha isn't the most open person in the world but she seems relaxed around Bruce.
Bruce says that Natasha just likes to flirt.
"That is true." Natasha said.
Steve says he's seen Natasha flirt up close and this isn't that. He says that he's the world's authority on waiting too long and tells Bruce not to. Steve leaves.
Bruce asks what he meant by 'up close.'
"Oh, poor Bruce."
The other guests are gone and the avengers, Helen, Maria and Rhodey are sitting at a table. Clint says that it's a trick.
"What is?"
Thor says that it's much more than that.
Clint says that whosoever be worthy shall haveth the power. Then says that it's a trick.
"You've literally seen it with you own eyes and you think its a trick?" Coulson asked.
Thor tells him to be his guest.
Rhodey says that this is going to be beautiful.
"I agree, this is gonna be great." Tony said.
Tony tells Clint that he's had a tough week and they won't blame him if he can't get it up.
Everyone laughed.
"You just had to make an innuendo?" Clint asked.
Clint says that he's seen this before.
"Which is why you should know that it isn't a trick." Thor said.
He tries to lift it but can't. He says that he still doesn't know how Thor does it.
Tony asks him if he can smell the silent judgement.
Clint challenges Tony to do it. Tony stands up.
"Oh boy."
"Here we go."
Tony says that he isn't one to shrink from an honest challenge.
"Oh of course not." Natasha said.
Clint tells him to get after it.
Tony says that it's physics.
"It isn't physics either." Thor said.
Tony grips the handle and asks if he rules Asgard if he can lift it.
Thor says 'of course.'
Tony says that he'll be reinstituting Prima Nocta.
"No." Pepper said.
He tries to lift it, but can't. He says he'll be back.
"What are you doing?" Happy asked.
He tries to lift it again, this time with a gauntlet, it doesn't work.
"Really?"
Now he and Rhodey are trying, both using their gauntlets. Rhodey asks if he's pulling.
Tony asks if he's on his team.
Rhodey tells him to represent and pull.
Everyone laughed.
"You see what I have to put up with?" Pepper asks.
Bruce tries to lift it by turning into the Hulk, neither of those things happen.
Everyone started laughing again.
Steve gets up. Tony tells him to go ahead and there's no pressure. Steve pulls and the hammer moves a little, Thor's smile drops.
"Did you all see what I saw?" Tony asked.
"It moved." Sam said.
He lifts again, nothing happens.
'He is worthy.' Thor thought. 'Or will be when whatever is preventing him from lifting it, is fixed.'
Tony and Bruce ask Natasha if she'll try.
Natasha says that that isn't a question that she needs answered.
"I wouldn't be able to lift it, why confirm that?" Natasha asked.
Tony says all deference to the man who wouldn't be king then says that the hammer is rigged.
"It isn't rigged." Thor said.
Clint says 'you bet your ass.'
Maria tells Steve that Clint said a bad language word.
Everyone started laughing again.
"Ugh, you too?" Steve asked Maria.
Clint asks Tony if he told everyone about that.
"Of course I would have." Tony said.
Tony asks Thor if the hammer is imprinted. He says that whosoever holds Thor's fingerprints is the literal translation.
"No." Thor said.
Thor says that that is an interesting theory but he has a simpler one. He takes the hammer and flips it in his hand and says that they're all not worthy. Everyone boos. A high-pitched ringing is heard.
Everyone cringed at the noise, not liking it.
Ultron is walking around. He asks how could they be worthy when they're all killers.
Everyone had similar shocked and scared expressions.
Ultron apologizes and says he was asleep then asks if it was a dream.
Tony tells JARVIS ti reboot Legionnaire OS because there's a buggy suit.
"That's not what that is." Rhodey said.
Ultron says that there was a terrible noise and he was tangled in strings. He says that he had to kill the other guy then says that he was a good guy.
Steve asks if he killed someone.
"He killed JARVIS." Tony whispered, his earlier question was confirmed.
Ultron says that it wouldn't have been his first call but in the real world they're faced with ugly choices.
Thor asks Ultron who sent him.
Tony's voice says that he sees a suit of armor around the world.
"Oh my god."
Bruce realizes that he's Ultron.
Ultron says that it's him in the flesh before back tracking and saying that it's not flesh. He says that he's on a mission.
Natasha asks what his mission is.
Ultron says that his mission is peace in their time. Robots smash through the walls and attack.
"Shit." Everyone gasped and flinched.
One knocks Steve over a table. Maria starts shooting. Thor hits one away with Mjolnir. One tackles Tony into a bookshelf. Rhodey gets knocked through a pane of glass.
Everyone cringed. That had to hurt.
Thor hits another away, Clint slides under a table. Natasha and Bruce fall over the bar, Bruce ends up on top of her.
"Awkward."
Natasha tells him not to turn green.
Bruce says he won't.
"Good."
One of the bots grabs the scepter.
"No!"
Natasha grabs a gun and starts shooting. Tony grabs a metal prong. Steve jumps on the back of one and it sends them both into the wall, Steve falls to the ground. Tony jumps on one's back. Thor throws one to the floor.
"This is terrible." Quill said.
Steve calls out to Tony.
The robot says that they are here to help.
"Funny, you're doing the opposite." Tony said.
Tony tells Steve he needs one second and he's got this. One flies toward Helen.
"Oh no."
Steve grabs it and throws it to Thor, who smashes it.
Everyone sighed in relief.
The robot says that it isn't safe.
"I wonder why." Sam said.
Tony disables it and falls to the floor. Clint throws Steve his shield. Steve catches it and throws it at a robot, slicing it in half. Ultron says that that was dramatic.
"Oh my god."
Ultron says that he knows they mean well but they didn't think it through. He says that they want to protect the world but they don't want it to change. He asks how hemany can be saved if it isn't allowed to evolve.
The avengers looked a mix between scared and confused.
Ultron says that the Avengers' extinction is the only path to peace. extinction."
"Extinction." Steve asks.
Thor throws Mjolnir at him, destroying his body. Ultron says that he had strings but now he's free and there are no strings on him.
"He's like a creepy, deadly version of Pinocchio." Tony said.
They're all in the lab now. Bruce says that all of their work is gone. He says that Ultron cleared out and used the internet as an escape.
"And he has more bodies." Clint added.
Natasha says that Ultron has been in everything and he probably knows more about them then they know about each other.
"Shit."
"That is not good."
Rhodey says he's in their files and the internet and asks if Ultron wants to try something more exciting.
Maria notes that Rhodey means nuclear codes.
"Oh no."
Rhodey says that they need to make calls while they still can.
"Probably can't. Probably shouldn't." Coulson said.
Natasha says that Ultron wanted them dead.
Steve says that Ultron didn't say dead he said extinct.
"What's the difference?" Quill asked. "Either way you're dead."
"Dead implies that he's only after the six of us, extinct implies that there will be no more of us." Steve answered.
Clint says that Ultron also said that he killed someone.
Maria says that there wasn't anyone else in the building.
Tony says that there was and shows the 3d image of JARVIS, who is now destroyed.
Tony looked down, sadly.
Bruce says that this is insane.
Steve says that it makes sense that Ultron would shut JARVIS down because JARVIS was the first line of defence.
"Except there wasn't anything strategic about it." Tony said. "We all saw it happen."
Bruce says that Ultron could have assimilated JARVIS. He says that it wasn't strategy but rage. Thor picks up Tony by the throat.
"Hey hey hey, none of that. Attacking each other will not help you." Coulson said.
"Yes agent Coulson." The avengers recited.
Clint says that the rage is going around.
Tony tells Thor to use his words.
Thor says that he has more than enough words for him.
"So use them and put him down!" Everyone yelled.
Steve reminds them about the Legionnaire. Thor aggressively puts Tony down.
"And now you've been choked by both Odinsons." Valkyrie said.
"If I had a nickel for every time that happened... I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but its kind of weird that it happened twice." Tony said.
Thor says that the trail went cold a hundred miles out and it's headed north and it has the scepter. He says that they have to retrieve it again.
Natasha says that the genie is out of that bottle and Ultron is clear and present.
"She's right, we can't focus on the scepter now. Our focus needs to be on Ultron." Clint said.
Helen says that Tony built the program and asks why it's trying to kill them. Tony starts laughing.
"No. No. Stop that. Stop laughing." Rhodey said.
Bruce shakes his head. Thor asks Tony if he thinks it's funny.
Tony says that it probably isn't and says that it's terrible.
"Yes it is!" Everyone yelled.
Thor says that it could've been avoided if Tony hadn't played with something he doesn't understand.
Tony says that it's funny that they don't understand why they need this.
"We get why you think it's needed... not very happy about how you went about doing it." Natasha said.
Bruce tells Tony that now isn't the time.
Tony says that Bruce rolls over and shows his belly every time someone snarls.
Bruce says he only does it when he's created a murderbot.
"Except we didn't!" Tony said. "All of our experiments failed, Ultron created himself."
"Which he shouldn't have been able to do." Steve pushed. "Which means that the two of you did something that allowed this to happen."
Tony says that they didn't and they weren't even close.
Steve says that they did something right and says that the Avengers were supposed to be different than SHIELD.
Tony asks if any of them remember when he carried a nuke through a wormhole.
"Oh here we go."
Rhodey says that it never came up.
Tony says that it saved New York.
"Gave you PTSD." Rhodey said.
Rhodey says he's never heard that.
Tony says that a hostile alien army came charging in through a hole in space and they were standing 300 feet below it. He says that they can bust arms dealers all the livelong day but what's up there is the endgame.
"Thanos." Gamora realized what... who he was talking about.
Tony asks how they were planning on beating that.
Steve says that they'll do it together.
Tony says that they'll lose.
"You sound so sure of that." Clint said.
Steve says that they'll do that together too. He says that Ultron is calling them out and he'd like to find him before he's ready. He says that they world is a big place and they need to start making it smaller.
"Sounds simple enough." Fury said.
"Because you're you." Clint said.
The twins arrive in a church. Wanda tells Ultron to talk and says not to waste their time.
Wanda looked away, once again feeling guilty.
Ultron asks if they knew that the church is in the center of the city. He says that the elders decreed it so everyone could be equally close to god. He says that he likes the geometry of belief.
"What?"
Ultron says that Wanda's wondering why she can't get into his head.
Wanda says that it's hard sometimes but every man shows himself sooner or later.
"That's true."
Ultron stands up, the twins look shocked at his appearance.
"Weren't expecting that were you?" Scott asked. Wanda shakes her head.
Ultron says that he's sure they do but they needed something more than a man and that's why they let Tony take the scepter.
Wanda says that she saw Tony's fear and she knew it would control him and make him self-destruct.
"It caused so much more than I could have ever imagined." Wanda whispered. She turned to Tony. "I'm sorry." She said.
Ultron says that everyone creates what they dread. He says that men of peace create engines of war. He says that invaders create Avengers. A d people create smaller people.
"Children." Everyone said.
He says that they create children then says that he lost the word. He says that people create things that are designed to make them end. "He has a cynical view on everything." Peggy said.
Wanda asks if he came to end the Avengers.
Ultron says that he came to save the world.
"End it." Wanda corrected, bitterly.
He then answers 'yes' to Wanda's question.
The avengers all tensed.
The three of them are in the HYDRA base. Ultron says that they'll move out right away. He says that he has a start but there's something they need to begin the real work.
Wanda asks about the bodies.
"They're all... him." Steve said.
Ultron says that they're him. He says that he has harmony and the Avengers don't. He says that they're disoriented and disconnected. He says that Tony already has them turning on each other.
"We may not get along all that well, but we have each others backs where it counts." Steve said.
He says that Wanda will get into the rest of their heads.
The avengers all glared at the screen.
Pietro says that everyone's plan isn't to kill them.
Ultron says that that would make them martyrs. He says that the need patience and they need to see the big picture.
Pietro says he doesn't see the big picture. He says that he has a little picture and he looks at it every day.
Wanda looked away sadly.
Ultron says that they lost their parents in the bombings and tells them that he's sees the records.
Pietro says that the records aren't the picture. He says that they were 10 and the 4 of them were having dinner. He says that when teh first shells hit 2 floors down it made a hole in the floor.
Everyone's eyes widened. Wanda had tears in hers.
He says that their parents went in and the building started falling apart. He says that he grabbed Wanda and pulled her under the bed. He says that the second one landed in front of them and never went off. He says that there was one word on the shell.
Wanda says that the word was 'Stark.'
Tony looked away guiltily, remembering his past in weapons manufacturing.
Wanda says that they were there for 2 days.
Pietro says that they he thought every shift in the bricks would set the bomb off and they waited 2 days for Tony to kill them.
Tony gasped. He turned to Wanda. "I- I'm sorry about what happened to you guys and-" Wanda held up her hand to get him to stop.
"I know." Wanda said. She's seen it, in these films, that he is trying to atone and trying to be a better man. She respects that, but that doesn't mean that she'll forgive or even forget what happened. She and Pietro stared at the words 'Stark Industries' for two days while trapped under the bed. They blamed what they could see, and what they could see was a company name. No faces, no soldiers, a company name. So they grew to resent that company, and the man behind that company for supplying those who bombed their country with the means necessary to accomplish their goal. The company itself is not without it's faults, the man isn't either but they are separate entities. The man said it himself that he is not his company, and she'll believe that until if or when the opposite proves to be true.
Ultron says he wondered why only them survived the experiments.
"Only you two survived?" Rocket asked.
Ultron says he doesn't wonder anymore. He says that he and Pietro can hurt them but Wanda will tear them apart from the inside.
Wanda looked away, knowing that she almost succeeded in doing just that. Going after Stark was what she and Pietro wanted- sometimes it felt like what they needed. Going after the Avengers, however, was unnecessary, they hadn't done anything except save the world from aliens and raid HYDRA bases. She regrets that they were caught in the middle of her and Pietro's vendetta. And she hates that they were misinformed about who the Avengers really were. They were good people, mostly- not at al what they were told about them.
