Yon-Rogg, now on Earth, meets 'Carol' in a shed in the woods.
'Carol' asks what took him so long.
Yon-Rogg says he's fine and sarcastically thanks her for asking.
"This is gonna get ugly, real fast real soon." Natasha said.
'Carol' recites her code and Yon-Rogg tells her to stop.
"That's weird. Why would he ask you to stop? Seems like the code thing is real important to the Kree." Gamora wondered.
Yon-Rogg says they've learned that the system is fallible.
"I guess that makes sense. Skrulls apparently retain memories of people they turn into... they remembered that other guys code." Peter said.
"Oh! Maybe that's how he knows what jazz hands are." Bucky realized.
Yon-Rogg asks her who he sees when he communes with the supreme intelligence.
'Carol' says it would be the person he most admires and respects and says he never told her.
"He never told you?" Maria asked.
"Nope." Carol said, popping the 'p' sound. "But that wasn't something most people told each other because it's seen as a very personal and private thing."
Yon-Rogg asks her what her earliest memory of Hala is.
'Carol' says it was the transfusion and blue blood running through her veins.
"They gave you a blood transfusion?" Bruce asked, slightly panicked.
Yon-Rogg asks who's blood it was.
'Carol' stays quiet so Yon-Rogg shoots her and tells who he thinks is a Skrull that his blood runs in Carol's veins.
"Oh, he thinks you're a Skrull." Ned said, suddenly the shooting made a little more sense.
"Is anyone else a little uncomfortable with the fact that it was his blood they used in the transfusion? Or is that just me?" May asked.
"No... you're not the only one." Hope said, cringing.
'Carol' is revealed to be a Skrull.
Carol watched, slightly fascinated and slightly creeped out. That Skrull was her a second ago- it's weird to see someone wear your face like that, they even sounded like the same person.
Yon-Rogg asks the Skrull what they did with Carol.
"Careful, it almost sounds like you actually care about me. Not just the me you use as a loyal soldier." Carol said.
The Skrull tells him that he's too late.
Yon-Rogg realizes that Carol knows everything now and shoots the Skrull.
"Oh no... you lost your best hitter because you brainwashed her and now she knows the truth. Whatever will you do?" MJ asked, sarcastically.
"You sent the Skrull to meet him, didn't you." Maria asked. "Clever move."
Yon-Rogg pulls up a hologram of Ronan.
The Guardians and Carol all made noises of Anger and Disgust as they saw Ronan on the screen.
"Okay. I don't want to make this comparison but I will anyway because it's amazing. But this image right here is giving me Anakin and Palpatine vibes. Look, Yon-Rogg's eyes are even yellow." Peter pointed out.
Yon-Rogg tells Ronan that Skrulls have infiltrated Earth and asks him to come at once.
"No! Bad idea." Quill shouted, remembering vividly what Ronan did to Xandar, and Knowhere, and a couple of other planets, and the Kyln.
Ronan tells him the infestation will be eradicated.
"'Infestation' he says. Like they're no better than the flies that got into his house or the wasps nest hanging in his garage." Sam said, chuckling bitterly.
"To him- them- that's what they are. The Kree love to think that because they're so technologically developed, they're somehow the superior culture but they're no better than the image of the Skrulls they've been projecting." Carol said.
"It's okay... you can say colonizers." Shuri said.
Carol, Maria and Fury are in a ship. Fury is petting Goose and making clicking noises with his tongue.
"Save this clip please. I'm begging you. I never want to forget this ever." Tony said.
"I thought you said she was Hellspawn?" Natasha asked, smugly.
Talos says Fury shouldn't let Goose sit in his lap.
"Why not? She looks comfortable, Fury clearly enjoys it." Clint said.
"You'll see why." Fury said. Carol laughed.
Fury says their alliance with him is tenuous at best and as long as Goose freaks him out he'll keep giving 'him' all of the love and hugs that 'he' needs.
"You're baby talking... to a Flerkin/cat?" Clint said, bewildered. "Did I enter a parallel universe at some point? What is going on?
Maria asks Talos if he can just turn into anything he wants.
Talos says he needs to see it first.
"Makes sense, you cant really become something that you don't know what it looks like." Ned said. "Although that would be really cool because then you can be all like 'what am I? I have never seen this thing in my life'."
Maria asks if they all do it.
Talos says they all can but it takes practice and talent to do it well.
"As most things do." Strange agreed.
Fury asks if he can turn into a cat?
Talos asks what a cat is.
"Okay so you know jazz hands, but you don't know what a cat is?" Bucky asked, as if he were personally offended by that question.
Maria asks if he can turn into a filing cabinet.
Talos asks why he would turn into a filing cabinet.
"I don't know? To be covert or discreet." Peggy suggested.
"I would do it just to see if I could." Shuri said.
Fury tells him to turn into a venus flytrap and says he'll give him $50 for it.
"You must have really wanted to see that." Maria said, laughing slightly.
"I did. Sue me." Fury responded. "You don't think that would have been cool?"
Carol takes the ship straight up and out of the atmosphere. Fury asks if the shaking is normal space turbulence. Carol confirms. Talos shakes his head in a disproving manner.
"That was rude." Fury said. "It was unnecessary. 'Let's pick on the man who's never been to space before'."
The engine shuts off and the effects of low gravity start to show. A floating Goose wraps around Fury's arm.
"Oh look she likes you." Pepper said, smiling. "Isn't that sweet." Meanwhile, Fury did not take his eyes off of Goose, who was now sitting comfortably on the back of Carol's seat.
Carol turns the gravity in the ship on.
"Aww." Someone said sadly, too quiet for anyone to decipher exactly who it was.
Maria wonders where the lab is.
Talos says it has to be there.
Fury asks if its in front of the nothing or behind it.
"Definitely behind." Ned said, nodding his head in a way that said he was absolutely sure of himself.
Carol activates a decloaking device on her suit that reveals the lab.
Ned gasped. The lab was the nothing.
"Damn. What all can that suit do?" Tony wondered.
"Well it's Kree made so... probably more than yours can." Carol said, not in a rude way. Just in an informative way.
'Mar-Vell's Laboratory: Kree Imperial Cruiser.' appears on the screen.
The group boards the lab, as they walk through a corridor Talos finds a baseball and picks up the pace.
"There's people there?" Bruce asked.
Talos finds a lab with the energy core in it. Goose hops up to it.
"The Tesseract!?" All of the Avengers shouted.
"How did it get there?" Steve wondered.
"Howard found the Tesseract in the ocean shortly after you crashed the Valkyrie and took a 70 year long nap. As you know, the Tesseract is- was a key component in Project Pegasus. Mar-Vell worked on Project Pegasus and therefore worked closely with the Tesseract... so I assume she started using it in her other projects and that's how it ended up in her invisible lab in space." Fury said.
Maria asks if the cube is the core.
Carol said Mar-Vell called it the Tesseract in her notes.
Carol grabs it and she and Maria look at the desk, covered in old kids things. Maria wonders what she was doing with it.
"Maybe she liked troll dolls." Happy suggested.
Maria grabs a metal lunchbox for them to put the tesseract in. Fury clears his throat and draws their attention to the steaming cup of coffee/tea on the desk.
"Who else is there?" Wanda asked.
"Who else would know how to find it?" Vision wondered.
"Just some more people Mar-Vell was trying to help." Carol answered.
Talos starts bellowing, and doors start opening. More Skrulls come out and start making the same noise.
"Refugee Skrulls." Rhodey smiled, happy that there was a group of them safe from the Kree.
Soren finds Talos and hugs him. Carol realizes Talos wasn't there for the tesseract.
"He just wanted to reunite with his people." Gamora smiled. It was very sweet.
Soren beckons a child over before telling Talos that they didn't know what to do because Mar-Vell didn't want them to send a signal or the Kree would find them.
Talos says they did the right thing.
"They did. They were responsible and kept themselves safe. They're definitely glad you guys showed up, though." Coulson said.
Soren sees Carol and tries to back off. Talos tries to calm her and Carol steps forward and says she's not gonna hurt them and apologizes. Talos says that this is war and his hands are filthy from it too.
"Which is true, but he wasn't fighting for the wrong side of that war." Carol said. "I was. I owe them an apology for the part I played in it, even if it was against my will."
Talos says Carol found his family and it's just the beginning because there are thousands of them separated from one another throughout the galaxy.
"You've got a long journey ahead of you." Coulson said.
The child leads Carol to an arcade version of Space Invaders and shows her the high score.
"Damn my high score isn't even half that." Ned complained.
Fury said he'd have some high scores too if he played the same pinball machine for six years.
"Okay. What's stopping you? Hmm." Carol asked.
"Yeah? What's stopping you, Fury? You can get classic arcade games on your phone. Play one for a little while everyday for six years." Natasha suggested.
Yon-Rogg walks in with Goose and the rest of his team and accuses Carol of Fraternizing with the enemy.
"Not this asshole again." May sighed.
Fury pulls out his gun. Minn-Erva tells him to drop it. Yon-Rogg throws Goose on the floor.
"Rude. What did she do to you?" Ned asked.
"Probably a lot actually." Carol said.
Yon-Rogg asks Carol what she did to her uniform.
"What do red and blue offend you?" Shuri asked. "Kind of childish."
Minn-Erva says the Skrulls got in her head just like they'd thought.
"I mean you're right... but also no." Carol said.
Korath says a visit to the supreme intelligence would set her straight.
Talos says they can see that the Skrulls there aren't soldiers.
"Right... like they're cowering from you guys and you still wanna perpetuate your nonsense." Sam said.
Talos says to let the other Skrulls go and take him instead.
Yon-Rogg asks for the core too.
"I'm gonna go with no. Final answer." Scott said.
Carol tells Yon-Rogg that he lied to her.
Yon-Rogg says he made her the best version of herself.
"A brainwashed version of myself." Carol corrected. "Who had no real identity."
Carol's fists crack with energy. Yon-Rogg says what's given can be taken away.
"They put an inhibitor chip on you?" Loki asked.
"They wanted control so they did everything they could to get it and in the end it still failed." Carol answered. "Control over my identity, memories, abilities. all of it."
Carol punches Yon-Rogg who knocks her down and pulls out an electric weapon and holds it to Carol's neck. The others start shoving Skrulls to the ground. One of the Kree grabs the Tesseract. Yon-Rogg knocks Carol out.
"Damn it." Gamora swore. Not only did the Kree get their hands on the Tesseract, but they got Carol and all of those Skrulls.
Carol wakes up with the Supreme Intelligence. Music is playing. 'Mar-Vell' sits at a desk and makes a comment about how being on Earth jogged Carol's memory.
"It did a little more than that." Carol said. It helped her find herself, it helped her reassess everything she'd been told. It made her question her entire identity and everything she thought she knew. everyone she thought she knew.
'Mar-Vell' says the jacket she's wearing is 'killer' and the music is a nice touch.
"This is weird." Peter said. "I don't like it."
Carol demands to be let out. 'Mar-Vell' denies the request. Carol's fist lights up and she tells 'Mar-Vell' she'll burn them to the ground if they hurt the Skrulls.
'Mar-Vell' asks what she'll do that with.
"What do you mean 'What will she do it with?' Her abilities weren't given to her by you so they're not yours to take away." Valkyrie said. "So ha."
'Mar-Vell says her power comes from them.
Carol corrects her by saying that the blast did.
'Mar-Vell' says she's never had the strength to control them.
"No, because you all saw fit to do that for me." Carol said, angrily.
Carol tries to use her powers but 'Mar-Vell' snaps her fingers to prevent her from doing so.
"Okay how- how can she do that?" Howard asked.
"Think of it like being in a dream-state." Carol suggested.
Outside of the Supreme Intelligence, The Kree analyze Goose and determine that she has a high threat level.
"But how? She looks like a cat. How harmful can she be?" Sam wondered.
"Yeah. You guys keep implying that she's some super dangerous creature but we don't have any proof." Coulson said.
The Kree put a muzzle on Goose. Fury tells them that she's a cat not Hannibal Lecter.
"Not a cat. She's a Fkerkin." Carol said, reaching over her shoulder to scratch Goose's head.
The Kree analyze Fury and determine that he has no threat level. Fury says that the device is clearly broken.
"That's embarrassing for you." Natasha said.
Minn-Erva passes Goose to someone and tells them to load her onto the Helion and to eject the others into space.
"For what!?"
In the Supreme Intelligence, 'Mar-Vell' tells Carol that she did good and she picks up the Tesseract.
"How did- you know what, I'm not going to ask, it's too confusing." Pepper decided.
'Mar-Vell' says the Skrulls will no longer threaten their boarders.
"I'm pretty sure they were never doing that but, believe what you wish." Rhodey sighed.
Carol says she used to believe those lies before saying that the Skrulls just want a home and they're talking about destroying them because they won't submit to Kree rule and she won't either.
"It's a recurring nightmare. Those who don't conform get silenced one way or another." Okoye said. "And those who don't comply disappear."
'Mar-Vell' says they found her and embraced her as their own.
"Through conditioning, forced assimilation, indoctrination and control." Carol said. "But, sure you 'embraced me as your own'."
Carol says they stole her from her home, family and friends.
"And made me forget them." Carol said, voice nearly cracking on the word 'forget'. Six years of her life that she won't get back, that she spent living as someone who wasn't herself. If the Skrulls never kidnapped her then she would have continued living and believing the same lies.
Carol punches 'Mar-Vell' but her fist goes through and gets stuck.
"That makes me uncomfortable." Ned said.
'Mar-Vell' throws Carol into the wall and taunts her. Carol sinks through the wall.
Watching this reminded Stephen of his first encounter with the ancient one. Nothing is what you think it is.
Carol sees some past memories of her falling off a bike, crashing a go-cart, playing baseball, falling off of the ropes at military training all while she hears her father and 'Mar-Vell' taunting her and saying that the Kree saved her.
"No. That's just the bad stuff, but there is so much good stuff too." Carol denied, remembering late nights with Maria, playing with her brother, the real Mar-Vell- not the fake one that the Supreme Intelligence is wearing the face of.
"Their justification makes no sense. They saved you from your terrible life on Earth where people never let you do things... meanwhile your life on Hala was terrible because they never let you do things." Sam said, exaggerating the words 'saved' and 'terrible.'
Carol starts falling. Still hearing every terrible thing anyone has ever said to her until she finally hits the ground again. 'Mar-Vell' says she's only human without them.
"What's so bad about being human, huh?" Clint asked. Everyone from Space seems to think humans are weak, it wasn't fair. There had to be aliens that were weaker than humans out there somewhere.
Carol says she's right.
"Wait what? I did not expect you to agree." May said, shocked.
Carol says she's only human and remembers each of the times she got back up again after failing.
"Never give up on something just because you fail the first time or you'll get no-where." Carol said. She spent her entire life trying and trying after every failure until she succeeded. Back then it was because she felt like she had something to prove to everyone who had ever told her 'no' but now she realized it was to prove to herself that she could do it.
'Mar-Vell says Carol was reborn as 'Vers' on Hala.
"Which is a piece of my name, just like 'Vers' is only a piece of my identity." Carol said. She could choose to put those six years behind her, yes, but it wouldn't do her any good to ignore it all.
Carol says her name is Carol and her fists light up. 'Mar-Vell' summons some energy to stop her but Carol trudges through.
Outside, Carol's fists glow. Korath realizes she's trying to break out.
"No shit, dude." Quill said.
The ships lights flicker, and Fury and Maria's handcuffs fall off.
"This is where a good old fashioned lock and key works better." Hank sighed.
The Supreme Intelligence's 'room' starts crumbling. Carol says she's been fighting with one arm behind her back and takes off the inhibitor chip.
"Finally." Thor said, excited to see Carol at her full strength. It was fun for him, watching people come into their own.
Carol wakes up, glowing and uses her energy to blast the Kree to the sides of the room.
"That's what you get." Natasha said. They never learn.
"They've got worse coming." Carol said.
She grabs the Tesseract and leaves.
