The subtle steps of metal on metal echoed throughout the lair. Izuku took cautious steps, leaning his figure against a modified P.A.M. Unit. On his back and legs was a basic frame meant to guage the necessary modifications for his exosuit. The frame was a bit janky and cold against his skin. At the very least he's finally walking again.
"Master, our latest drone has reached the Faria Laboratory. It is located approximately four hundred kilometers from the lair at a depth of seven kilometers down." Shockwave announced, almost throwing him off balance. "Give me a feed?" Izuku requested. The nearest screen lit up before shifting to the murky darkness of the ocean. The faint lights of the drone reflecting the metal shape of the lab.
He had found it at last.
"Start organizing a mass investigation. Direct all available submersible drones to its location. I want to know every detail of the Faria's situation before we can begin moving it." Izuku instructed. "Understood, do you require anything else?" Shockwave asked. "No, I'll just watch the footage we get from the lab." Izuku said as he approached the monitor. "Understood." Shockwave said.
Izuku leaned down, getting into a more confortable position. Watching as the drone's camera feed swam along the outside of the Faria Laboratory. The P.A.M. Unit drove away, returning not long after with an interface for the screen. Izuku let the Droid install the interface and quickly took control of the submersible in its exploration.
He watched through the screen as a pair of small arms extended outwards and sunk into the metal of the Lab. The drone behind the screen began to shift and Izuku watched as a long metal tube shifted forward and sunk into the outer shell of the lab. A slow drilling began as the submersible sunk its body closer to the lab. It wasn't long before the drill broke through the shell and the drone sunk right against the wall.
The feed changed as a small collection of lesser drones started exploring the inner parts of the lab. Izuku tabbed the main submersible's feed and began instructing the lesser drones to explore the lab itself. Miraculously the inside of the lab was untouched by the water, much like how the Sapia Lab had been untouched by hundreds of tons of the dirt around it.
The drones fanned out, small wings and thin legs carrying them through the super structure around it. His main interest was the means to connect to the lab's mainframe, see what was still running. Izuku opened a third tab, taking note that many of the other submersibles were on their way.
Soon all the secrets of this place would be his.
Looking back to the main drone's feed Izuku saw that it was still in the clear, but a creature in sight. He had honestly been scared by the small machine that had attacked his older exploration drone, he's not taking such a risk with how far away this lab is from the lair. Switching back he watched as the drones began connected the lab's mainframe to the lair. Subtle progress and data began to flow between the drones as small bursts of lights sparked between the drones.
"Shockwave, have you connected to the Laboratory?" Izuku asked calmly. "He is preoccupied organizing the submersibles, I have connected to the Lab in his place." Soundwave spoke up. "As long as one of you are there, I'll take it." Izuku responded as small bits of data began to fly through his screen.
"Say Soundwave, what did this lab even do. I know it was hidden down in the ocean for a reason but I never found any data on what it did?" Izuku inquired. "The Faria Laboratory was a biological research centre. It was used for developing cures to diseases and creating experimental treatments against such things as aging, dementia, cancer, and many other biological ailments not related to diseases." Soundwave answered him. "We aren't going to find any sort of freaky cronenberg type monsters down here are we?" Izuku asked. "No, the largest forms of non-human life on board were single celled organisms." Soundwave said.
"But what has nearly two hundred years of isolation in the deep sea caused?" Izuku asked. "Most likely small caches of dead or dying bacteria. or mutations of unknown capabilities." Soundwave answered. Izuku paused, taking a mental note to have each drone scanned thoroughly before they can return to the lair. "So there's a risk of an unknown disease being unleashed?" Izuku asked."Very low chance of such an event occurring. The nature of the present bacteria was meant to cure people. Should any hostile bacteria with fatal potentence be encountered the nanomachines will be capable of dealing with them." Soundwave surmised. "Still, there's a risk." Izuku said.
There was a brief pause before Izuku returned to the drone's exploration.
Taking note of the various experiments that had been run while the lab was active he had the data send to his main server. He was content to let the Entiers have their own field day with the data. Letting his curiosity get the better of him he had the drones dig deeper. Shuffling through samples of experiments he paused for a second as he hit the last bit of data before it all went dark.
Bakugou huffed as he finished sending the police call with one of the gang members phones. "Something on your mind brat?" the gruff voice of his "mentor" asked. Bakugou turned to the voice, halfway glaring at Knuckle Duster. Bakugou just huffed before stomping on the shoulder of a crook who was slowly crawling away. "Someone... fuck it I'll tell you while we are heading back." Bakugou said as he stepped closer to Knuckle Duster.
"Fine then brat. You've been rather slow tonight, can't let you get distracted while out on the field." Knuckle Duster said as he looked down at Bakugou. Bakugou just shot him a glare before they began leaving, making sure the crooks were all knocked out before they left. The cold night air was fresh as they strode down the walkways under the street lights.
"Alright brat, now spill." Knuckle Duster said as he looked down at Bakugou. "A Frei... Someone I know. I was shitty to him for most of my life, then I started to understand his point of view. We met again and started to well... tolerate one another. It was a step in the right direction, but now he's been kidnapped. The last time I saw him was asking to help me with something, now I might not see him again." Bakugou said. "Ah, you knew that young kid, Midoriya was it?" Knuckle Duster inquired. "Yeah, was a shitty bully to him for most of my life. Now I got where he's coming from." Bakugou said as he clenched his fist.
"Ah, the classic Quirk dilemma. Useless without one, until you don't have it yourself." Knuckle Duster said. "Yeah." Bakugou droned with a huff. "Still, it's been rather fool hardy of them." Knuckle Duster said. "I know, when I see those bastards I'll be serving them a knuckle sandwich of broken teeth." Bakugou said. Knuckle Duster just chuckled before shaking his head. "That's life brat." Knuckle Duster said before he ducked into a back alley.
"See yah." Bakugou said as Knuckle Duster waved him goodbye. 'Midoriya. I'll make it up to you.' he promised before he made his way home.
Izuku felt a deep pit form in his gut as he rewatched the footage for the sixth time. The last recorded experiment, otherwise known as the BAF-81 experiment, was dealing with some of the first Quirks. When he sifted through the description of the experiment be had hoped that they were on the tamer side.
He was half right.
Controversial as they may be, the first Quirk users weren't exactly cut open and caged. They weren't brought there willingly mind you, but they weren't just treated as inhuman monsters. Many of the scientists present were more curious about the potential harm these powers could cause to the public and the users.
It was rather clear where Quirk Surpression serums came from now.
Still, the last experiment of the day, a means to test how powerful a Quirk could become. Patient 27, name unknown, wielding a Quirk that allowed them to charge up energy in their body and releasing it through their hands. He had seen this same patient test their quirk by charging a phone with their finger nail and breaking a wall by just holding their palm to it for an extended period of time.
The scientists had found a chemical concoction that functioned similar to Trigger, boosting the Quirk of the user. When they injected the man with the serum and instructed him to perform the wall test once again he did so. Izuku watched as he rested his palms on the steel wall and the humming of his Quirk echoed throughout the room.
Then he fired.
The entire lab began shaking. Pieces of metal began to fall as an alarm shook the place. The man was knocked to the floor, his palms blackened and smoking as blood began to flow from his body. He could hear panic and fear in the background as the metal began to groan and tear.
The footage turned black but the sound persisted for another ten seconds. All he could hear was worsening panic followed by a dire explosion.
Then it was silent.
Izuku ran a hand through his hair before shutting off the video. He leaned back and shook his head. He knew he'd find something horrifying, but he never imagined that he'd find something like this.
