Rise of the Green Hood and the Red Shadow
"A long time ago, since the Feudal Era. An infant girl found near the rivers of Mt. Fuji, left to die alone. Then a samurai heard her cry and took her as his own. The girl was named Homura Kyosika. From that day on, she was raised and trained to become a samurai herself. Little did Homura know was that she held a power very incredible that Vandar Adg would have none of. From her perspective, she had dreamt of a bird embodied with flames, becoming one with her aura. She became known as the Phoenix."

In an Olympic Gymnasium stadium in South Korea, there was a world tournament for ages 10-13 for a Kickboxing Tournament. Many children and their parents arrived at the stadium. A 10-year-old girl with ginger hair and vietnamese descent, is punching in the air to prepare for the tournament.
My name is Lian Harper, and people call me a she-beast when I took kickboxing. My mom left me and Dad when I was a tiny tot. Dad told me that she died overseas, but I knew it was a lie. Wherever she is, it is a mystery I will find. Someday.
Then she performs a kick from middle to high, 3 in the row. Then she turned to her father, also gingered-haired, but not of vietnam descent. He smiled at her. The girl smiled back at him as they both waved to each other.
When preparations are over, the girl was closing her locker to put bandages on her wrist and palms. Only to be encountered by a girl with dark-brown hair. "Are you from Star City too?" Asked the girl her age.
"Yes, are you gonna fight in the tournament too?" Asked the first girl.
"Yeah. I always wanna do the tournament. I have been signing up to do this since Dad took me to kickboxing matches."
"Really? My aunt taught me how to do it."
"I'm Zoe."
"Lian." The two girls shook hands. "I think we should see who is the best in the game."
"You're on!" The two agreed to settle this friendly rivalry in the tournament. "Zoe! The game is about to start!" Her father called, he approached the girls, and wore an eye patch. "I see you made a new friend. I'm Zoe's father."
Lian cannot help but look at the eyeptach. "Whoa, cool eyeptach, mister!" Lian said it. Not many are offended to see an eye patch. Otherwise people would mistake Zoe's father for a pirate or a bandit.
The man chuckled. "Thank you, you know, not many kids are used to seeing an old man with an eye patch."
"What? How come your scar isn't cool? It's more or a symbol of a fighting spirit!" Lian replied. The man smiled again, but something about the man to Lian didn't look right. Seeing the eyes in Zoe's father are guilt. And Lian wasn't sure why. Almost he was about to do something he was about to regret.
"Daddy? You okay?" Zoe asked her father. Zoe's father shook his head and turned to his daughter. "Sorry, sweetie. Daddy's just exhausted from a flight. I'll be rooting for you when you compete." Zoe's father kisses her on the cheek and left.
Lian raised an eyebrow, for some reason, she sees grey aura around his body. "Is your dad okay?" Asked Lian.
"He's just stressed from work nowadays. He hoped to see me here. This is the first time he has visited in years since he and Mom..." Zoe twirled her fingers around. Lian knew what she meant. "Oh...Sorry to hear that. But hey, may the best one wins." Lian smirk competitively.
Zoe smiled in agreement. "Yeah, good luck."
"Thanks." The two girls then left the locker room for the tournament to begin. In the final round, Lian is up against Zoe. "Harper Lian, vs Lawton Zoe." The referee then stood in front of the two young fighters.
Holding up the flag, then swings it down. "Begin!" Lian took the first hit with a jab. But Zoe blocked it and makes a sweep under her feet, causing Lian to fell. But Lian regained her position and went straight to perform a kick.
Zoe also dodged it and pushed a hook punch.
Out of nowhere in the audience. A young teen who is 4 years older than Lian, observed a young girl. He has blonde hair, dark-light skin, and is of korean descent. He was amazed to see Lian fighting with such fury.
This young girl has a lot of aura in her. I think Master Nyssa will need to hear about this. But I doubt the kid's father would let her be an ally.
Lian then lets het fury out as she does a lean kick on Zoe, who fell back. Lian then gets into her a starting oosition again. The referee then gestures at Lian. "Harper Lian reaches the second round!"
After the tournament, Lian went 2nd place, while Zoe was first place. While Lian was hapoy for Zoe to win, she felt loss. Will, her father, was walking with her to cheer her up. "Don't worry about it, kiddo. 2nd wasn't that bad, you aost got it." Will assured her.
"I know, Dad. I just can't stand losing to an opponent. I was too young, but Mom always says to show em who's boss." Will ruffled her hair as he chuckled in response. "That's your mom alright."
"Do you think she will ever come back? It's been what? 8 years?"
"Lian, I know you're upset your mom left. But she has her reasons to do so." Will reasoned with her. Most fathers would be upset whenever their life partners left. But for some reason, Will was calm about Lian's mother leaving them behind, as if he knew something.
"You sounded as if Mom had some secret. Mind telling me what you've been bottling up for a long time?" Lian was smart for a child her age. She was able to read her father like a book. Will knew she might eventually find out. Not that he would stop it, but he only hid it to keep Lian happy.
"Look, Lian. I think you should wait till you're a bit older. This is something your mother and I cannot tell you. It's complicated. Now come on, let's go to a ramen restaurant for some hotpot."
"Alright!" Lian didn't mind being treated with hotpot.
"Mind if I join you?" A voice of a teen boy was heard. Will encountered the teen that was observing Lian. Lian looked at him and was wondering who he was, but curiosity got the better of her. The young teen shook her father's hand.
"Connor, Hawke. I was part of the mid-division tournament. I saw your kid, today, she must be a gift in skill." Connor intriduced himself.
"Thanks, Lian is a toughie. But she's awesome like her mom." Will ruffled her hair again, but slower this time. Making Lian laugh. The smile of the girl also made Connor smile. But then he turned back to his focus on something important.
"Mr. Harper. We need to talk." He stared, Will then stared at him in confusion for why he wanted to talk to him. Wondering if he was part of a combatant organization, like the League of Shadows. Or the Black Dragon Society. Maybe a defective of either.
Above the building of a restaurant, an old man and his 11-year-old son has Raven hair and grey eyes. Both are in the garbs of spandex and hoods. The two spies also have bows and arrows on their backs. "See this, Tommy? That girl is someone who will be your worthy opponent and enemy one day." Said the old man.
The boy checked his binoculars and spotted Lian next to her father while Will and Connor are talking. "I see her, Father." Lian glanced at him, like she sensed Tommy watching her. Tommy took off his binoculars and looked away.
"I'll admit, she noticed quickly then we expected. I have a counter suggestion, if that's alright with you, Father." Tommy asked his father.
"Speak. Do not forget you are a Merlyn, Thomas. Your words are in no need of permission. Our goal is to eliminate the last of the vigilantes that stood in the 100 empire." His father replied, calmly. Tommy then glanced back at his father, Malcom Merlyn.
"What if we make this girl an ally instead of the enemy. More of us, and we will become more than a couple of lesser archers they all see us as." Tommy suggested. Malcom was against this, but with his hand held to his chin, his son's plans sounded a bit intriguing to him. Persuasion is a superpower that no one can master.
"I'll think about it, son. But for now, we wait for the moment for her to switch to her inner demons. The same way her own mother had."
"You sure this is the father and daughter we've been looking for?" Tommy asked.
"According to Psimon, they were both tested positive for the metagene, but it remained dormant, they had to be tested." Malcom said.
"At your command, Father. It's your call to make." Tommy complied.
"That's my boy. With the help of Mr. Whale himself, our Merlyn empire will expand farther. The Canaries will be no more. We will take back what is ours."
"Nothing will please us more than this. If only Mom could see this now."
"And indeed she will, Prometheus. Indeed she will."
At the hotpot restaurant, Connor and Will, along with Lian sat down after ordering ramen. One of Lian's favorites spicy chicken. While Lian slurps on the ramen noodles with chopsticks, Will and Connor engage in a conversation about the incoming dangers.
My name is Connor Hawke. I am a member of the League of the Phoenix. Under the head of the clan. I was sent here cause once I was a troubled kid myself. The League served as a clan of martial artists that channels through aura. I was raised by my mother since my dad disappeared from our lives, when I was an infant at the time. I guess the truth was, I was lost. Until I came across a kid, her aura was brighter than I could even master. My master assigned me to find her and bring her to the league for some reason. But I doubt her father would let her out of his sight.
"Look, Mr. Harper..."
"Just call me, Will. You're gonna have to explain what you're up to. From the looks of things, you seem to trying to..." Will knew Connor had something in mind.
"Look, don't tell anyone about this. But I am a member of the League of the Phoenix."
"The League of the Phoenix?"
"Yes, an organization that is an counterpart of the League of Shadows. For many years my master had been counter attacking them in the name of prevention of crimes. Truth to be told, the leader was a defect from the League of Shadows, spending the rest of her life countering them on equal grounds. The clan was founded to protect and fight."
"Really? Reminds me of my mom telling me stories of ancient weapons and assassins." Lian perked. Taking a bite of a dim sum.
"What are you going on about this, Connor?" Will asked.
"My master had found out about your daughter and her potential. And thought about this since the beginning."
"What?" Will blinked. Thinking someone has been spying on them for awhile. "Because of her own skill and Intel, someone who should be the next generation of warriors. I was assigned to bring her to Japan and train her. But it shouldn't be if you..."
"No." Will stood his ground. Connor didn't react as he stood up and tried to explain. "But, sir..."
"I'm sorry, but I won't. When Lian's mother left, I promised myself I cannot let anyone mold.her into something she isn't. And her mother, she isn't proud of everything she did in the past. I can't let my daughter be fighting in a life and death mission like this."
"Dad...?" Lian was about to ask her dad about why he won't hear him out. But her father cuts him off. "Lian, let's go. We'll go back home tomorrow." Will said to his daughter. Before turning back to Connor. "Sorry, Connor. But the answer is no." Will left with his daughter as he stood from the table.
As Will and Lian left the restaurant, the girl became filled with questions her father cannot answer. "Dad, maybe Connor can help with Mom's whereabouts."
"No, Lian, he can't and won't. There's a reason your mother didn't want us to find her."
"But why?!" Lian demanded, fed up with the secrets. A child at 10 can pick up where their parents left off.
"I can't tell you."
Lian finally reached the boiling point. The fact she never knew why her mother left, and was denied of an opportunity as a lead to find her. Now the rebellion began. "You know what?! Don't tell me, I'm joining the League of the Phoenix, and you won't stop me! I'm sick and tired of you lying to me for years, Dad!"
Lian yanked herself from her father's hold. Will then steps forward to try to stop his daughter. Feeling guilty for not telling the truth. "Lian, stop! Lian, come back here, and calm down! Lian!" Lian didn't obey, until she and Will heard a thud.
Both realized they were in the alleyway. They were surrounded by men and women in ninja suits, with the emblem of the shadow tattoos on their necks. Will realized that he has to act to keep his daughter safe.
As one of the attackers charged at Will with the sword. Will dodged a swing and headbutts it. Lian, though still mad at her father, was amazed to see how Will fought back like that. Will got into his fighting position. No wonder where she got the fire from. "Lian, run and hide! And don't look back!"
"But Dad...!"
"Now!" Will repeated. Leaving no choice, Lian rushed to find somewhere to hide. But then after going from another way, she was chased by two of the Shadows. Then they cornered her.
Lian was about to put her kickboxing practices to good use, and blows out a jab on the first ninja she sees before her. But he caught her wrist. "Ugh! Hey! You won't get away with this! You hear me?!"
Lian then uses her elbow to free herself and then kicks the warrior in the face and he pummeled to the walls. "Kyah!" Lian shouted as she blows another punch on the stomach. The second warrior then takes out his chain-ball mace and spun it around to intimidate Lian.
Until an arrow knock away the chain-ball. And Connor leapt from the roof and blow his foot on the Ninja's face. "Dah!" Lian so surprised to see him with such relief. Connor then stared down at the warrior still on the ground. "Leave her alone."
"It's you!" Lian exclaimed.
"Where's your dad?!" Connor asked.
"I know where he is, come on!" Lian responded as both sprinted on their feet, hoping they were not too late to save Will.
Back at the spot where Will is combating the ninjas. Will dodged the slashes of one of the enemies wielding a spear, as the opponent spins upward and then lower. Will shifted back and then takes out his bow, and blocks his attacks. And then uses his knee to kick him in the abdomen.
"Alright, come at me with everything you got! I don't have all night." Will warned them. "But keep away from my kid!" Then one of the assassins received a call from his communicator. As he finished, he turned to his men.
"Forget the girl! Get Red Arrow! Merlyn's orders!" He ordered.
"Merlyn? I should've known he's still alive." Will glared at the warriors singling him out. Will shoots two of his arrows at the pursuers and shocks them with electricity. Will then leapt and swings on the ladder of the alley and landed his feet towards two more of the assailants.
Then another one came behind Will, but unexpectedly, he was aided by Lian, who disobeyed his earlier order to run and hide. But Lian isn't the kind to do so anymore if her loved ones are in danger. Lian kneed a kick on the back of the assailants before her. "Hi-yah!" She shouted.
"I told you to run and hide!" Will scolded at his daughter.
"And let you hog all the fun?! No thanks!" Then Lian took out her dual sai, Will was shocked to see Lian getting a hold of weaponry and somehow snuck it all the way to Korea. "Lian, how did you get a hold of those...!"
"Hey, it's about time I make use of these!" Lian smirked as she threw her Sai at swords and knocked them from the enemies' hands. Lian then ran and flips forward and grabs the sai from the ground.
Connor (with the sword of his katana) then deflects arrows from the incoming enemy archers shot from them. Then he swiftly spins and aimed his arrows at the two assailants, only at their bows as a counter attack.
"Oneul-eun geochin bam-i doelgeoya. (This is gonna be a wild night)." Connor speaks Korean out of dealing with stress, shaking his head. Then he held the balde upward and across to block the charges from more of the assailants ahead of them. Then kicked another one with a leaned leg. And summersaulted above behind the three assassins and shifts his sword back into a bow.
Then shot three electric arrows to render them unconscious. Will fires his arrows at the upcoming assailants. While doing so, he failed to notice that a backup sniper had him in sight.
A man in a face mask in a orange-reddish garb and a red eye on the right side of the mask looked through the lenses of his sniper gun. "Target sighted." Then shot a tranquilizer dart at him on the shoulder.
As the dart pinned onto his shoulder, Will winced as he felt the hit. Then he took off the dart from his shoulder and threw it to the ground. But Will began to feel weak while still fighting.
He whacked another assassin by the face. But his vision began to blur. The last one he fought dodged Will's punch and hit him in the chest. Will falls on the road and coughed. Lian noticed this and tries to aid her father. "Dad!"
She ran after the assailants taking her father away, but failed as more of them surrounded them. Connor was also too late as he took out the last of the five assassin's he was fighting. "Hey!" Connor attempted to shoot his arrow to stop the attackers, but then bullets began to rain on Connor, but they missed. He had no choice but to retreat. Taking Lian with him after firing a smoke arrow.
Connor grabs Lian's arm to whisk her to safety. "No, stop! Let me go, they're getting away!" Lian yelled as she saw them taking her father away. Then the remaining assailants were caught by the cops as soon as the smoke clears up.
On the rooftop. Lian was frustrated at the sight of her father being nabbed by the assassins, but also Connor for stopping her. "How could you?! They took Dad away and you didn't stop them?!" Lian shouted. She swings her fist at Connor before he caught it.
"More you felt anger, you will feel the urge to kill. It won't make it right." Connor reprimanded. Lian then parted from him as she glares at him.
"What's going on, who are they? Why are they after me and Dad?" Lian demanded.
"It'd be safer that you don't know." Connor tries to take Lian back to the hotel she and her father were staying for the tournament. But Lian pulled back her hand. "No! I won't be lied to again! Not after tonight! Dad was taken and you're not doing anything about it!"
"Look, I'll try whatever I can to help you and your dad! But squawking over it won't help." Connor folded his arms, trying to make sure she doesn't run off on her own to rescue her father. "Come on, we need to get you somewhere safe. I promise you, I will get your father home, safe and sound. But this is my fight, not yours."
Connor offers comfort to the young girl, and thought it might be a bad idea to make Lian his partner to become a warrior. But little did he knew was that this encounter will let destiny take its course. Not even assurance can let the girl rest.
To be continued...
