Looking back, JJ can see now that he and Dee would never have worked, not even for a brief fling; they simply weren't compatible. Really, he didn't know why he hadn't realised that sooner, but he supposed he must have been blinded by his idealistic fantasies of how their life together would be.

Well, his fantasies had been just that. The reality would have been a total disaster, because JJ needed someone he could lavish affection on, someone he could look after, and Dee was far too independent to tolerate that kind of fussing. Dee was also kind of a hothead, and JJ knew himself to be excitable. Both of them needed someone calmer and more level-headed to balance them out.

JJ was also flamboyant, colorful, and given to over-the-top romantic gestures, none of which Dee would have appreciated. Not that Dee wasn't romantic in his own way, he remembered important dates, bought Ryo gifts, even flowers, but he wasn't the sort to buy soft toys, and he loathed the kinds of garish knick-knacks that JJ cherished.

No, he and Dee would have driven each other mad within a week. Thankfully, they'd both found the perfect match in their partners.
