Sitting upon a med berth, Azura was connected to a few lines that was monitoring her system. She still felt cold, which was a concern to the two autobots. Optimus warmed up several blankets to wrap around her body, but Ratchet knew the internal structure of her body had likely been compromised from the cold she produced. He k re she had done it to try and save herself, but it has caught some damage. The only thing helping was drinking some low-grade from Optimus, which allowed her to feel warmer. But not completely, and she was going through a process to help warm up her system.
Azura watched as Ratchet was reading over things on a monitor, which were likely things about her system and core temperature. He had a worried expression on his face as read over it thoughtfully. Optimus stood by him reading as well. Azura felt bad about making them worry about her. She wished she didn't use her abilities, but she didn't have much of a choice. It was either use her abilities or potentially get kidnapped, and taken to the decepticons.
Azura looked at the lines that were attached to her. She didn't know what the purpose was for each different line, but it didn't matter to her. She knew that her own system was not properly developed. She has heard Ratchet speak of it, and he apparently knew of some kind of procedure that would help her, and she didn't know what that was yet. But Ratchet has not exactly explained what it is yet.
"Hmm, I think it will take a little while for her system to warm back up properly, even after she has had low-grade," Ratchet said as he read through what was on the monitor. "We are lucky that Makeshift pulled her out when he did, or she would have been in the similar situation as you and Arcee, even if she wasn't in the Arctic."
"I did not realize she was very vulnerable to the cold like this. I knew sparklings were vulnerable, but…" Optimus paused as he stared at the screen. "I guess because her system is not fully complete…"
"That would be the logical explanation." Ratchet turned and walked away for a moment. "However, her system cannot be cold for a long period of time. I will give her something that will hopefully give her system a boost so it can heat itself."
"Is there anything else that we can do?" Optimus asked worryingly as he watched Ratchet.
"I recommend that she recharges within your chassis tonight, Optimus." Both Azura and Optimus look at Ratchet in surprise. "The natural heat from your body will help Azura's system. It will be more effective than her laying under a blanket, as that won't do anything to keep her warm."
"I understand." Optimus looked at Azura with sad optics before he smiled slightly. "I will admit that I am impressed that you were able to do that, Azura." She glanced up at Optimus with a smile before she shrugged and looked away from him. "I know we will have to do more practicing after today."
"It would be ideal, especially now that she as unintentionally revealed that she has abilities to the humans," Ratchet said as he filled a syringe with liquid. "I am also impressed that she can do that." He turned and walked over to Azura. She tensed and whimpered when she saw the syringe. "I promise this won't hurt, Azura. You need this so that your system can recover easier."
Azura was still fearful as she knew needles hurt. She looked away as Ratchet grabbed her right arm gently and she closed her optics as she waited. And whimpered loudly when she felt the needle push in. Even though it was quick, it still hurt. Ratchet injected the medicine into her body and removed the syringe before placing a bandage over the injection site. She took deep intakes and opened her optics, looking at her arm before looking at Ratchet.
He smiled at her. "I know it was not fun, Azura. I assure you that you should feel better soon. But for now, take it easy." Ratchet looked at Optimus. "She will be clinging to you for the rest of the day."
"I would not expect anything different," Optimus said with a smile. He could see that Azura wanted to be held, but she was keeping herself controlled while she waited for Ratchet to free her from the lines. "Should I put her inside my chassis now?"
"Well, that depends on her. She does not look like she wants to recharge anytime soon, so I think it would be a bit unreasonable to ask her to be inside your chassis." Ratchet removed the last line and smiled at Azura. "There we go. I am terribly sorry about how the day goes, but I hope you will be okay for the rest of the day."
"Thank you, Ratchet…" She shuffled closer to him and held out her arms to him. The medic picked her up and hugged her gently. "Thank you…and I'm sorry for making you worry…"
"Sorry? Oh, Azura…" Ratchet chuckled gently at the girl as he looked at her. "You were only doing what you needed to so you could escape from a terrible situation. And unfortunately, we did not think that Makeshift would have been the one who came through the vortex and not Wheeljack." He glanced at Optimus who was nodding in agreement. "Hopefully, the grenade that Wheeljack planted on Makeshift killed him, so he will no longer be a problem."
Azura knew that, but Makeshift also said some things too. She looked at Optimus sadly for a moment before hiding her face in Ratchet's shoulder. "But…Makeshift…he…he said…well…"
Optimus and Ratchet glance at each other as they knew she had heard Makeshift say it. Optimus sighed deeply and he took the girl from Ratchet gently to hug her against him. Azura whimpered softly and sniffled, looking up at him with sad optics. "Azura, it is not a secret that a decepticon was used to create the habloid sparks within us. The weapon would have had to in order for the sparks to even exist." She just looked away and hid her face. "And if Megatron was your sire, which I am afraid is to be likely, his only role was to create you. He has never been in your life, and he would only want you for your connection the Matrix. He might have a love for you if he were still alive, but I can only assure you that it would not be the same as the love we show you."
Azura did believe him on that, but she didn't know if she could believe that Megatron would be that bad. But she didn't know him, Optimus and the other bots did. But she was still upset. "It…doesn't bother you?" She looked up at him curiously with a sniffle as tears roll from her optics. "I just…it hurts…" Optimus softened his expression as he listened to her. "I…I am not like him…am I?"
Optimus shook his head immediately. "No. But believe me when I say that Megatron was not born evil. I guess we should have been honest about the decepticon part of you, but we did not have confirmation of who your sire could be. And now Makeshift pretty much answered…even though your protoform did give away a bit." She glanced down at herself with a frown. "You have some of Megatron's build."
"Oh."
"Optimus is right, Azura. You should not feel as though you should be ashamed about it. We all know decepticon is just a name that Megatron picked. We are all Cybertronians, and a name should not change your perspective of yourself." She didn't really react as she looked down. "Hmm, I think you should take it easy. Maybe you should show her some Cybertronian stuff."
"I will consider that. But I want her to be warm." Optimus kept his hand around her. "How long will it take for the serum to start helping her system?"
"It should be already. But she might not notice it for a while. Keep your hand around her, and close to your spark. That will be the warmest area of your body for her." Ratchet watched as Optimus moved Azura to the middle of his chassis as he held her against him. She relaxed as she could hear the mech's spark pulse within. "Hopefully Miko is also okay."
"I think she is. She's a strong, young, human. She was not the one Makeshift was really after anyway." Optimus turned to walk out of the med bay. "I should go and see if Wheeljack's shift is brought in."
"At least it will be something else that I can do to keep my mind occupied. I will tidy up here and I'll meet up with you in the lobby." Ratchet turned around to do some cleaning, and read over the results he had from checking Azura's system.
Optimus walked out of the med bay as he kept Azura cradled against the center of his chassis. Azura truthfully did not feel tired at all. She was still feeling cold, although it wasn't as bad as it was before. She definitely did not want to leave the comfort she had right now. She also knew that they would have to tell the kids about her abilities, and where they likely came from. Thankfully, none of them knew her connection with the dragon, so she did not have to explain that part of anyone.
She and Optimus did not say anything as they both had a lot of things on their mind right now. Azura was just happy to be in his hand, and she could feel the warmth from his body. And yet, she still felt cold. That bothered her a bit as he didn't like that she was cold. There wasn't much she could do, but she hoped that it would get better. She didn't want to get sick, though she didn't know if being cold would make her sick.
Walking back into the lobby, Azura and Optimus spot Wheeljack's ship that was put to the side of the lobby. Azura wondered how it was brought in, but she guessed the bots carried it. That seemed to be the most logical explanation. She did notice Wheeljack appeared to be working on something as she could see the spark of a welder in his hands.
"How are you feeling, Azura?" Jack asked, looking at Optimus and Azura as he walked into the lobby. "I hope you didn't feel the cold too much. After what happened last week, I am definitely aware of how susceptible you would be to the cold. Just like we are."
Azura smiled at Jack. "I still feel cold, I have to stay with daddy as he can keep me warm…hopefully my system will warm."
"Can't you just use your abilities to warm yourself up?" Miko asked curiously making Azura flinch. "By the way, I am surprised you didn't tell us you had abilities when you told us who your carrier is. And now, thanks to Makeshift, we might know who your sire is." Miko paused as she thought on that and softened her expression. "That's messed up. I mean, not because you are alive, but because Megatron made you to kill Optimus as a little spark."
"It is…yeah…" Azura hated that she was a product of that reason. And the fact she is Megatron's daughter made it even harder for her to accept. "I didn't want to you yet…because I didn't want you to think of me a superhero or something."
"Really?" Miko stared in disbelief before chuckling. "Azura, I think it is cool that you have abilities. Considering you are small, and probably, not as strong as a regular sparkling, having something else to give you a unique strength is pretty awesome!"
"Yeah, and the thing is, superheroes never start out strong. They work on it," Rafael said in agreement. "Obviously, the exception of that one is Superman, but that does have a whole story about how he has to control his abilities. So again, they never start out strong."
"Not even Thor?" Azura asked with a smile.
"Physical strength isn't exactly what I am just talking about," Rafael said with a light chuckle. "I imagine you don't have full control of your abilities. But considering you were able to cause Makeshift so much discomfort, that is impressive."
"I told you they would be accepting," Optimus said to her with a smile. "You had absolutely nothing to fear."
Miko gasped suddenly as she had a sudden idea. "Ooh, I realized! We could have a snowball fight whenever we want! Because it isn't always terribly cold when it snows, you wouldn't need to worry about freezing."
"That actually sounds like a lot of fun. I've never done it before." Miko looked at Jack in disbelief. Jack rolled his eyes at her. "It isn't hard to believe, Miko. It does not snow here. I know it snows in Japan, but I haven't seen snow before, nor has Raf."
"Right, I forgot." Miko placed her hand on her forehead in irritation. "That was stupid of me. Sorry! But it is still a good idea."
Azura smiled as she thought about it. "Well…only if daddy and Ratchet say it is okay."
Optimus was uncertain about allowing such an activity to occur in the base. He could see that a snowball fight would be fun for the humans, he would worry about Azura's system getting cold again. Plus, he knew she needed better control over her abilities, so allowing such an activity could be dangerous for all of them. But a carefree activity would also be good for her, and he knew it. She wouldn't have to use much thought, and she could practice a lot easier.
"I will consider it." The kids all glance at each other excitedly. "But I must earn you three that Azura needs more practice in control. She doesn't exactly have control over her abilities just yet, and if something like that were to happen, you need to be aware of that."
"We understand," Jack said affirmatively. "I don't know anything about her abilities, so I think we should know before we play."
"Well, uh, I have influence over the weather and I can use elemental abilities," Azura said slowly as she felt like hiding while explaining it to them. She grabbed her crystal to play with in her hands. "Um…I figured that out when I was…four, I think…maybe three…but I didn't know I was a sparkling back then."
"That's pretty cool," Jack said with a smile. He glanced down at the floor where the Stitch toy was. It had already been gathered and thrown away. He sighed and looked at her sadly. "I am very sorry that Makeshift destroyed something I only got you recently."
Azura nodded as she was saddened about it. "Yeah, well…better the toy then me. It can be replaced…but I can't…" Optimus nodded in agreement with the girl. "Well…you don't have to get another so soon either, Jack. I know plush toys of Disney are expensive."
"You don't need to worry about it. I'll get you another one."
Wheeljack stopping working on whatever he was working on and covered it with his hands before walking over to Optimus and Azura. "I couldn't help but overhear about your special abilities, youngling." She nodded before turning away shyly from the wrecker. "Yeah, I know. I probably seem scary thanks to that con."
"No…uh…I-I am just…" She looked back at Wheeljack with a smile. "Shy…I only just realized how shy I am…I've always been shy with new people."
Wheeljack chuckled gently at her. "Well, I guess I can understand. Shy sparklings are always the cutest. Anyway, I wanted to give you something…" Azura watched Wheeljack opened up his hands and she widened her optics. "I know it isn't the same one that you lost, but I figured you might like it anyway."
In Wheeljack's hand was a metal figure. It looked like a robot, but it was a metal figure with moveable, flexible limbs. Wheeljack had rebuilt the Stitch toy, but it was made of metal. Azura was extremely surprised as she didn't expect him to do this. After all, it wasn't his fault that she lost the toy, and it will be replaced with another. So he really didn't have to go out of his way to make it.
"I know it isn't the same as the one you lost, but I hope you like it." Azura reached out and grabbed it, the toy itself was rather large. It was almost her size. She watched the head and ears roll back from the movement as she looked at the toy. "And I know I didn't destroy, but it is the least I can do."
Azura smiled and looked at Wheeljack. "Thank you, Wheeljack. I love it." She stared at the toy before she hugged it, and to her surprise, the metal plates moved slightly from being hugged like a soft toy would. "Is it okay if I call you Jackie like Bulkhead?"
Wheeljack chuckled at her and nodded. "Of course you can! I'm not that stingy about my name. Besides, Jackie has been my nickname for a long time. You are free to call me that, little one."
"Okay, Jackie." Azura giggled at him as she held the toy close. "Do you have time to tell me about some adventures?"
"Well, actually, I noticed that you are going to be taught how to read and write in Cybertronian. I wouldn't mind helping you." She widened her optics before grimacing and shaking her head. "No? Oh, I stepped in the no territory. I am going to guess that you want Optimus to teach you." She nodded. "Well, would you like to hear about how I vanquished a squad of vehicons on my own back on Cybertron? I made sure to make it memorable."
Azura's optics light up and she nodded. "Yes, I do. I want to hear about it. I'll have to stay with daddy, though. My system's still cold."
"So I heard. Don't worry, youngling. I won't keep you away from your carrier." He glanced at Optimus with a smirk. "You might want to sit down while I tell her about it, it will make it a bit easier. And I can tell the other three younglings the story as well."
Miko gasped excitedly. "Ooh, I cannot wait to hear it!" She sat down as she slid her legs under the railing and placed her arms on the railing with a big smile on her face. "I am ready to listen to it!"
Wheeljack chuckled softly. "Alright, now this is an audience." Optimus smiled as he sat down on some metal boxes and kept Azura against his chassis. "I was searching for some energon deposits in some of the deepest, darkest caverns of Cybertron. I had hoped that the decepticons weren't confident enough in flying down there, but I guess I underestimated them. I didn't even know they were there until they were right on top of me. A few dozen vehicons flying after me as my trusty Jack Hammer sped through the tunnel at high speed. I knew that things were going to be intense, so I had to do some fancy tricks to get them off my back…"
Azura tuned into the story that Wheeljack was telling as she held onto the new toy that he had given her. She was definitely surprised that he would do this for her, but she was very have that he did. It was something that wouldn't get dirty or torn easily like a stuffed toy. She would still be happy with another, but this one that he made might simply replace the toy that had been destroyed in terms of attachment. It was a super sweet gesture, and Azura likely would not forget it.
As Wheeljack told more of his story, the kids would laugh as he told them how he managed to destroy the vehicon squad on his own. He used one grenade, and launched it behind the Jack Hammer and a vehicon rammed right into it, causing the first and secondary explosions of the entire squad. He was able to retrieve the energon required as well. It was a hilarious story, and Azura was very happy that Wheeljack told it to them. She was definitely going to take advantage of the time of him being there.
And as the time goes by, her system was still cold, but it was slowly warming up. She was very happy about that. Optimus was too. She wasn't trembling as much as she was before, and unfortunately, shivering does not help a Cybertronian to keep warm like it does for humans and any other warm blooded animal. He considered giving her a hot bath, as that might help her too, but given it was her internal systems that needed the warmth, he was not sure.
"As Bulkhead said, the signature wrecker move is one shot, one grenade," Wheeljack said enthusiastically as he finished his story. "How'd you like that one, huh?"
Bulkhead laughed heartily. "That was amazing, Jackie! It is too bad I wasn't there to see it! But I can definitely imagine that happening."
Wheeljack chuckled proudly. "As one should always expect from me. I never back down from a good fight, and I made sure to give old Scream a good one before I kicked Makeshift's tail pipe."
Miko giggled happily and jumped to her feet. "You are awesome, Wheeljack! I hope you stick around for a while."
Wheeljack shrugged. "I do plan on it." He turned his head as the medic walked into the lobby. "Though I am going to be repairing my ship, Miko. I would like to make sure it is up and running."
"I'll give you a hand with it, Wheeljack," Ratchet said gently with a smile. "It is very nice that you came to this world." He glanced at Optimus and noticed Azura's new toy. He was surprised before looking at Wheeljack. "Did you make that?"
Wheeljack nodded. "I felt bad that the little one lost something important to her because of someone who decided to dress up like me. So I figured that it would not hurt to make her another, even if it is not the exact one that she lost."
"That is very nice of you, Wheeljack. I knew you adored sparklings, and it really is showing. Hopefully, Azura won't feel cold tomorrow in case she wants to hang out with you." Ratchet turned to look at Optimus. "If Optimus allows it, of course."
Optimus smiled at the two bots kindly. "I will consider it should it be possible for Azura. If she is well enough, I will take Azura to an island for her to practice. It is clear she needs it."
Wheeljack widened his optics. "I think it is awesome! Maybe I could be of help." Optimus immediately gave him an amused look. "I am not kidding, Optimus. I really do think that I could help."
"I am sure you can give some advice. But I am familiar with the power she has within her, since it did come from me. Not the elemental and weather influential abilities, but similar." The wrecker nodded as he understood. Azura began to yawn suddenly, and Optimus glanced down at her. "Hmm…I think I have better make a start on putting her to berth."
Azura smiled as Optimus stood up. She looked down at Jack, Miko and Raf. "I guess I will see you guys tomorrow, right?"
Jack nodded affirmatively. "Of course. You need to recover after today, Azura. We are very happy that you are safe, and that there is more to than meets the eye." She chuckled a little. He looked at his watch and raised an eyebrow. "We probably should head home ourselves. It is starting to get late again, and the whole day has been pretty charged up."
Bumblebee widened his optics as realized. "It is that time already?!"
"Time really does fly," Arcee comments with a chuckle. She looked at Wheeljack who seemed confused. "The children still have their own lives to live. We simply just keep an eye on them. They happened to stumble across our existence by accident."
"Oh, I gotcha." Wheeljack was amused as he realized what was happening, and yet he did understand since he was certain it was to protect the humans from decepticons. He looked down at the children with a smile. "I guess you younglings will see me again tomorrow. It is such a shame I cannot tell you another story."
"I know! But I now know what I will be dreaming tonight!" Miko giggled as she thought about it and glanced up at Optimus as he walked by them. "Hey, Azura…" Optimus stopped as Azura looked at the girl. The teenager gives her a thumbs up. "I wish I had powers like you. I would have zapped that con if I could."
Azura chuckled softly. "It was something I considered…but I am also weak against lightning."
"Mmm…so are we." Miko shrugged with a smirk. "Still, one can only dream. I am sure one day you will be able to do it and not be hurt, just like Thor." The sparkling rolled her optics as Miko mentioned the Marvel hero. "You need to have that kind of belief to a point."
"Yeah, I could see that." Azura was doubtful though, she wasn't like what is seen in the comics. But it was definitely a nice thought. She looked up at Optimus. "Daddy, I could use the bathroom."
Wheeljack gave the girl a surprised expression as Optimus smiled and proceeded. "And we still have the matter of starting to teach you Cybertronian."
"Oh, yeah!" Azura didn't think that would happen, after all she did believe she would end up missing that. "If we have time to do a bit of that, I would love to start. Even if it is just the Cybertronian alphabet."
"So you haven't learned Cybertronian, huh?" Wheeljack comments with a chuckle. Optimus glanced at Wheeljack and nodded affirmatively. "That gives me an idea for tomorrow. I hope you are well enough, and you can buckle up for it. Have a nice recharge, Azura."
Azura giggled softly as she was starting to like Wheeljack a lot. Despite the fact she had to get over what happened with Makeshift, Wheeljack was a really nice bot. She hoped he would stick around for a long time. She really could enjoy having another family member sticking around. She yawned again, and realized that even though she would start learning Cybertronian, she was tired. She kind of hoped that it won't be complicated.
Optimus walked into her room and took her over to the bathroom to sit her on the toilet. She kept a hold of the toy and looked at it. "I still cannot believe he made this. He didn't even do anything to me."
"I guess Wheeljack felt a little guilty, even if that was the case," Optimus said gently with a smile. "And it is pretty unique. I know you already like it." She nodded as she looked at the toy before shrugging. "I apologize that I cannot keep you warm right now, but hopefully by morning, it will pass."
Azura thought on it for a moment and looked at Optimus curiously. "Can Cybertronians get sick from the cold like humans?"
He shook his head. "Illness in Cybertronians does not depend on atmospheric temperatures, Azura. Illness usually depends on bacteria that ends up in your energon. You will find that you are very unlikely to get sick as you are not on Cybertron. But…" Optimus paused for a moment before softening his expression. "There are common ailments sparklings do go through. I am not sure if you have been sick while you have been here."
"Only colds…or whatever is equivalent to a cold," Azura responded as she thought about it. "Oh! And migraines and vomiting, that has happened. But generally, I do not get sick. I prefer not to, I tend to never get out of bed."
"That is not too surprising, sparklings need a lot of rest when they are ill. I suppose I should inform you of these illnesses, but that might be better to come from Ratchet." Optimus did not wish to scare Azura, but he still was not sure if she would go through them. "What are common illnesses human children go through?"
Azura was surprised by the question and pondered for a moment. "Um…well…chickenpox is common…which is basically an illness that is contagious with high fever, itchy spots that can turn into blisters, headaches, stomach aches and just overall tiredness. That is common, though if they get the vaccine for it, less likely." Optimus listened to her and glanced away. "Oh…there's a Cybertronian equivalent, isn't there?"
Optimus nodded. "Similar, yes. However, it does involve purging as well…it is contagious, and we all technically carry the disease in us…" Azura didn't seem too surprised about that. "However, sparkling are only affected with their systems are weak…which yours is sadly."
"But I haven't gotten sick."
"No, and I guess we should count ourselves lucky. It is not an illness that is enjoyable. I actually had it twice when I was a youngling." That was a surprise to Azura, and almost worrying. "We call it Burn Pox, because it does feel like your protoform is burning. We have ointments to treat that though. Symptoms are high fever through the whole system, lethargic, body pains, blistering crusts all over the body in bright red spots, purging and, sometimes, hallucinations. For you, it might include…um…" Optimus grimaced as he thought about it. "I believe humans call diarrhoea…or something…"
"Ooh…" Azura felt embarrassed at the very thought. "Well…I wouldn't be able to sit on the can all day…oh…" She hoped she would not get the illness, because she realized she might have to wear a diaper for the duration, but only if that symptom were to occur. "Let's hope that is not a symptom for me…i-if I do get it. Anyway…" She grabbed the toilet paper to clean herself now that she was finished. "I at least know I won't be sick from the cold."
Optimus hummed softly in amusement as he waited for her to finish. Once she did and flushed the toilet, she cleaned her hands before Optimus picked her up. He carried her into her room over to her desk. He grabbed a large board with the English alphabet, and underneath were strange markings. It took Azura a moment to realize this was the Cybertronian language. She stared at the board curiously as Optimus held it.
"Uh…this is going to take a while," Azura said as she stared at the board. The markings were in different shapes and squiggles that she would have to learn. Though, it was sort of like a type of code, but that wasn't much of a surprise. "Do you have like a song for your alphabet? Earth does."
"No, we do not." Optimus was curious about that before he smiled at her. "All you need to do is memorize what each of the English letters are for Cybertronian letters. These are actually the easiest to understand, because this is the basic alphabet. There's more than one."
"You are…kidding…right?" Azura did not realize there was a lot more. "Oh, wow…this is going to do my mind in, but…" She stared at the board for a moment before she chuckled. "Maybe I should have homework where I just write and remember these letters. Can these letters be used in sentences?"
Optimus nodded. "Indeed, they can. Try not to overthink, this is the basic language all Cybertronians know. The other alphabets are usually reserved for scientists, so you don't need to know them." She was so thankful for that as she did not know how she would cope learning more than one alphabet. "Take your time. I know you'll want to fall into recharge soon."
He was not wrong. Azura felt very tired. She glanced at his chassis as she knew she would end up recharging inside. It was strange, because she knew she could have developed within his body if things didn't happen the way they did. She has sometimes craved recharging within his chassis randomly. She knew it was something she longed for to an extent, but she couldn't take advantage of that. Though she had a feeling Optimus wouldn't exactly stop her.
She managed to memorize the first few letters of the Cybertronian alphabet before she fell into recharge. She was not entirely surprised as this was all new to her, but she also enjoyed it. Optimus did ask if she needed help, but she refused it for now, so he let her be. When she fell into recharge, Optimus put the board away and opened his chassis to place her inside. Like Azura, it was really strange. Having her within his body again felt right to him. He knew he might not have a gestational chamber, but that never stopped him imaging what it would have been like. For now, he just wanted her to rest and recover. She was still cold, and he hoped the heat from his body would soothe that during the night.
