2208. Odd Man Out

Summary: Torchwood's newest recruit gives the whole team a shock.

"Coffee?" Ianto said, addressing his colleagues.

As expected, there was a chorus of approval from the team, all except one.

"I'm more of a tea drinker," said Torchwood's newest recruit, a computer hacker named Adrian Mitchell, who'd told everyone to call him Mitch. "Never been keen on coffee. Too bitter."

A stunned silence fell around the conference table, everyone turning to Mitch with various expressions of shocked disbelief. Owen was the first to find his voice.

"You what?"

Mitch frowned, looking around the boardroom table in confusion. "What? All I said is I'm not keen on coffee!"

Ianto turned on Jack. "You hired someone who doesn't like coffee? What were you thinking?"

Jack held up his hands in surrender. "I'm sorry, I didn't know! He never said anything about it during the interviews!"

"Did you bother to ask?"

"Well, not in so many words, but…" Jack stopped speaking, giving his lover a pitiful look. "Everyone loves your coffee, it just never occurred to me that someone might… not." He threw an accusing look Mitch's way.

"Maybe I can learn to like coffee," Mitch said, hoping he wasn't about to get fired.

Ianto sighed. "It's fine. Twelve coffees and a tea."
