"How'd the date go?"
Ianto isn't normally one for gossiping; he's not like Gwen. He thinks personal matters should be kept private, and he's never been one to pry into things that don't concern him, but this sort of does, in a roundabout way. Tosh is his best friend. Whatever matters to her matters to him, and last night's date is something she's been wanting practically since she met Owen.
Honestly, in her place, Ianto would've given up on the grumpy sod long ago. What Tosh sees in Torchwood's resident wanker… sorry, doctor… Ianto can't even begin to imagine. Being friends with Owen is one thing. Wanting to date him is a horse of a very different colour. Still, Owen's the one Tosh has set her heart on, so Ianto is determined to be supportive, even if he thinks she could do a lot better.
Asking about the all-important first date is what good friends do, and Tosh, perhaps predictably, lights up.
"It was lovely! Owen was the perfect gentleman, charming, funny, and attentive. The restaurant was romantic, the meal was delicious, he paid for everything, and walked me home after." She grinned mischievously. "He'll have a massive hangover today."
