Disclaimer: don't own Harry Potter

Idea came from Ausar the Vile

Despite the DADA teacher being awful, the other teachers were pretty nice. The transfiguration teacher, Professor Mcgongall was strict but fair, and Sirius learned he was actually very good at transfiguration. On his first day he was able to turn his matchstick into a needle after three tries. He had earned twenty points. Plus he also did fine on charms, herbology, potions, and astronomy. He did fall asleep most of the time on history of magic, but Severus somehow stayed awake and wrote notes for everyone. Although, staying awake wasn't the only thing he was good at. Severus was also the best in the school at DADA.

Speaking of what classes they were good at, Lily was awesome at potions, Remus was excellent at charms, and Peter was amazing at herbology and astronomy. Everyone in their group of friends was good at one of the core classes in Hogwarts.

Sirius wrote all of this to Reg, and he also occasionally sent a newspaper. The newspapers' front pages had articles about what Voldemort had done and who killed who. Sirius always asked Severus when he got a paper," Anyone we know dead?". Sometimes the paper said on of their classmates lost a relative, other times people died from whatever.

Sirius also told Reg to stay away from James Potter when he came, because he had been bullying other classmates. Him and his gang of friends were stealing things from Slytherins, calling them death eaters, and saying they probably helped Voldemort. The teachers didn't do anything because there were no witnesses. That was both a good thing and a bad thing.

All too soon winter came.

"Hey, Severus, you going home for Christmas?" asked Lily.

"Nah, I'm staying here." answered Severus.

"Why?" asked Peter.

"Well, you know Pandora Fawley, right?" asked Severus.

"Yeah," said Sirius.

"Well, her things went missing. I'm helping her look. She said that nargles probably took them, but I'm helping her anyway." said Severus.

"Well, stay safe everyone. Voldemort is getting very powerful, hopefully none of us come into contact with him or one of his followers. Oh, and by the way, my grandfather wrote back and said that we can put you under the protection." said Sirius.

"Great, at least that will make it so that we can walk around without having to worry as much about the death eaters." said Severus.

"How exactly does that work?" asked Peter.

"Well, it is basically a shield against almost any spell with harmful intent, except for Unforgivables. It also means anyone who attacks us also attacks the Noble house of Black." said Sirius.

"Interesting." said Lily.

Days afterwards Peter, Remus, Sirius, and Lily were riding the train to go home. They were playing exploding snap, talking about what they were doing over break, and practiced some spells. Then the train entered the station, and they said goodbye. Sirius then saw Regulus.
