"It would be as though you never existed."
Peter stared at Dr. Strange with a blank expression, immersed in his thoughts. This would be a big sacrifice, no the biggest... his life is never going to be the same again. Everyone he loved and cared about, will be gone. Probably forever. Aunt May's words lingered in his mind again. She is right. This is a gift. He wouldn't be worthy of his gift if he didn't make sacrifices for others. He has a responsibility, it's time to prove it.
Peter slightly nodded his head, "Do it."
Dr. Strange offered him time to say his goodbyes. A generous offer Peter gladly accepted, Strange also offered to call him by his first name. He and Peter had a rocky relationship however, both shared a great history, so respect had prevailed. Stephen couldn't comprehend what Peter was willing to do, to put an end to this ordeal. Even, with all he had gone through, dying countless times to dormammu, fighting Thanos, leading Tony Stark to his demise, no... witnessing their loved ones perish, is excruciating pain. Like a nail hammering into someone's heart.
The other two Peters were the first ones he said goodbye to, he was unable to tell how grateful he was, for their help. Peter stuttered and struggled when he tried to express himself, nevertheless, it didn't matter. They were other versions of himself, his words weren't needed at all, they were all like after all. Peter snickered internally and guessed most Peters in other universes are awkward and dorky.
The spell already did its work, cracks started to vanish and sunshine illuminated again, also hitting his eyes as his grin widened. This is what he's supposed to do make the world a better place, although he has to suffer.
Taking into account, suffering described his entire life, Peter was sure of himself, he will pull through. Wind breezed over his head as he took a deep breath and swung his webs toward MJ and Ned. His only loved ones who are not dead, ironic that neither of them, nor himself are going to die, but still is going to lose them. Destiny was twisted, always pitted against him.
What was he going to do without them? Will they ever speak to each other again? So many questions spinning around his head and yet he had no answer for any of them. Ned and MJ raised their eyebrows, opened their mouths in shock when Peter told them what was about to happen.
"Isn't there something we can do?" asked MJ desperately.
Peter looked at her, regretting to disappoint her, "There's nothing we can do."
Ned and MJ were a huge help to him in these bleak hours. Especially Ned. They were best friends since he could talk. All these memories will be gone in a second. They made their last special handshake together.
This hurts, he had to say something reassuring, although he's uncertain if these words were just hollow promises,
"But I promise I'll fix this," MJ professed her love to him and they kissed, Peter being almost certain, this was the last time he could do this with her. Their emotional conversation came to an end. Peter looked up to Dr. Strange, basically gave him his signal to finish his spell.
But when Dr. Strange cast the spell something unwelcoming happened. Something that wasn't meant to happen.
"What is going on? I can't stop it! How is this even possible?" Dr. Strange flailed with his arm, attempting to contain the spell, but ultimately failed.
"What's going on Peter? Is this meant to happen? Peter? Peter?" Ned directed his gaze at Peter's position, however, Peter wasn't there. He vanished, like the others did. Then...
"Hey Ned, why are we here?" Ned looked back to MJ, and all her emotional anguish disappeared.
"I don't know... we were supposed to help Spider-man and we did... I think."
"Right! Why don't we go home? I hope we did get a response letter from MIT!"
"Oh man, I hope so! This would be so awesome."
