Being lost in Eterna Forest was not the best thing in the world. When you're seven, alone, and without a pokemon: prospects weren't too good. Odds stacked against her, Carrie marched forward. At this point she wanted to go home.

Brushing her pure white hair out of her face, she kept walking along the path. Did she see that tree before? She didn't know. Carrie was out here to find the Old Chateau. Her fascination with Ghost types had her wandering from home. She idolized Fantina from Hearthome City. She wanted to be a fashion star: just like her. She thought of how strong and fearless Fantina was to keep herself motivated as she walked through the forest. The looming trees seemed to get taller as the sun began to lower in the sky. It was September, and in Sinnoh that meant it was already beginning to get chilly.

A twig snapped which brought her attention up. Nothing. She shook her head and moved forward. She just wanted to see some ghost pokemon, and the Old Chateau was the premier place for ghost activities in the whole region.

"I jus wanna go home," she said with a soft whimper. The wind blew, and she grabbed her purple sweater closer to her body. Another twig snapped. She saw some Murkrow take roost in the trees. Some Hoothoot and Starly also joined. Panic began to rise as she felt isolated and surrounded. Carrie stopped walking. A massive Honchkrow appeared. Unknowingly she walked into their territory.

Suddenly the Honchkrow began to caw at the young human. She wasn't old enough to understand, or at least try to understand, what it was trying to communicate.

"I don't understand! I just want to go home!" Carrie cried out as tears began to prick at her eyes.

Unfortunately, that wasn't working with the flying type leader. Honchkrow watched carefully with a scrutinizing gaze. She walked forward, and unfortunately kicked a stick with her feet. That was all the Honchkrow needed to have them attack the poor girl.

The flying types all converged on her: beaks and claws at the ready. Scratched and beaten with wings and claws, pecked at, she collapsed to the ground on her side. It felt like hours to the young girl. Blood began to trickle down her face and body as her clothes were torn. Deep scratches and gouges were inflicted all over her body. She cried out in desperation and fear.

The wind blew. The air temperature dropped and suddenly, it felt like winter had come into the forest. Her eyes glued shut, she heard attacks being launched that weren't at her. Despite the fear she felt, she opened her eyes to see a white, feline Pokemon with what appeared to be swords for fangs in the forest. Snow covered the ground. Flying pokemon were either on the ground, fainted or flown away. The leopard swatted away the Honchkrow, instantly fainting it. It looked at Carrie. Tears and blood all over the poor girl's face. It carefully plodded over.

"D-don't hurt me!" Carrie cried out as more tears poured. Her face felt like it was on fire. She carefully reached and felt a long, nasty gash from the corner of her mouth up her face. The cat gently nudged her. She looked at the Pokemon and suddenly felt calm. Her whole left side felt like someone took her through a shredder. Carrie could not stand without being in pain.

The Pokemon gently nudged her before laying down.

"Get on?" Was all Carrie could say. It nodded it's head. She dragged herself to climb on, grabbing onto the fur of the beast. Suddenly, it was bathed in a golden light that affected her. While the physical wounds were not going away, she felt relaxed by the Pokemon as it used the move recover.

Suddenly, she found herself outside of the Pokemon center. The door opened as Nurse Joy saw the child caked in blood and cuts. She covered her mouth and gathered the child inside. Deep gouges, claw marks, beak indentations, a nasty cut on the child's face: what happened to this poor child?

As Carrie was brought inside to be treated, she saw the snow leopard on the roof of the next building, watching. That was the last time she saw the ice type.

Nurse Joy quickly worked to get the girl in a more stable condition. Blood was still pouring, especially from her head, and she was barely awake. Nurse Joy had the senior Blissey come help her and they went straight to the surgical suite. Working tirelessly, she washed and sewed up Carrie. Blissey brought in equipment and threw away biohazardous material as needed. After a few hours, Nurse Joy realized she did the best she could.

"I need to contact her parents, but she's so young!" Nurse Joy's mind raced. The child was asleep, there was no way to identify her as she was too young to have a card or a pokedex. Thankfully, Arceus smiled upon her as two parents came rushing into the Pokemon Center.

"Have you seen a little girl? White hair, blue eyes? She's seven, and she should have on a purple sweater. We haven't seen her for hours!" The mother wailed out.

"We are Lea and Alec Price. Have you seen our daughter, Carrie?" He showed Nurse Joy a picture. Her heart sank.

Carrie Price struggled after this. Flying types triggered her Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She refused to go outside. She did not do well in school as she refused to be near windows especially on the higher stories. Bandages covered her body as it tried to recover. Physical therapy was successful, but psychological therapy was not as effective. When it came to the story of the white furred Pokemon with sword fangs. She was insistent that is what saved her, but others say the story of a young woman named Cheryl and a Chansey who saved her.

Carrie was an outcast in school: because of her behavior and because of her physical appearance. All her fellow students would stare at the scars all over her body, especially the big one on her face. She became more reclusive, not even wanting to go to school anymore. As she grew older, it got worse.

"I don't want to go!" Carrie yelled out.

Her mother sighed, "Carrie, please? Maybe this one will be different!"

"You don't even believe me, I know what I saw," Carie said back in angst with tears in her eyes. The ten year old had gone through multiple therapists and none believed her story.

"His name is Chien-Pao, he saved me," Carrie said as she looked out the window. Thankfully, the wind that day kept anything with wings out of the sky.

"I know, I know," was all her mom said as they hugged. Tears soaked both of their shirts. "Am I going to be okay, Mom?" Carrie asked her mom. "Yes, you will. You have us and the whole family to help you." Carrie let herself be held by her mom as her dad walked in.

"Do you want to try this one? I've heard he is one of the best," He asked calmly.

"I…I guess," she said with some fear in her voice. She always had a soft spot for her dad.

Carrie couldn't tell if this new therapist actually believed her or was playing along. But she felt like he actually believed her.

"Did it look like this?" He showed her a drawing he did based off of what she said.

Her eyes went wide in shock. She couldn't believe it! That was him! "Yes!" She cried out. It had been three years since. She missed the snow leopard.

"Interesting. I'm glad I was able to bring his likeness out so well. Would you like to keep this drawing?" He asked. He placed it on the table and moved it forward. Carrie eagerly accepted the drawing.

Thus, Carrie finally found a therapist she trusted: Shannon Church. He was calm with her, and showed her different kinds of Pokemon. He was also a trainer, and had many Pokemon. Some were very strong, others who were unable to battle he would bring them to therapy to help his patients. Carrie finally felt like things were turning around for her. Her inability to socialize was still a massive uphill battle, but she felt like she could go out into the world again.

One day, Dr. Church brought in a special Pokemon to their session. It was small, gray, with yellow eyes and a yellow tendril on each hand.

"Carrie, this is my friend! He is a Frigibax, an ice and dragon type from the Paldea region, far away from here. I hatched him recently from an egg. Do you want to pet him?"

Carrie looked at the little gray figure in the center of the office. It sat there looking around, taking in the new environment.

"Can you pet him first?" she asked. Her scars felt like they were on fire seeing the Pokemon up close. He had always shown pictures, but this was the first time he brought one in after making sure she was okay with it.

Dr. Price gently stroked Frigibax's head, which earned a coo from the young Pokemon. Carrie giggled as he nuzzled into Dr. Church's hand more.

"C-can I try?" She asked tenderly.

"Of course! Just be gentle like I did, okay?"

Carrie nodded. She stood up and slowly walked over to the baby Pokemon. He looked up at her and tilted his head.

"Hi there," she said softly. She pet the ice type. His cold scales reminded her of the cold fur of the frozen leopard three years ago.

"I love him," she said confidently. Frigibax moved to get closer to her. She felt no fear and soon hugged the small dragon.

Frigibax soon became a frequent visitor at their therapy sessions. Carrie felt herself come out of her shell more. Life did move on, as did she. Until one day her parents had devastating news.

"Carrie, we need to talk about something," her father spoke. They had come back from her latest therapy session with Dr. Shannon Church. Arriving home, Carrie found herself in the living room of their small house with both of her parents.

"W-what is it?" She felt scared, her face scar felt hot. This wasn't going to go too well.

"Do you enjoy living here?" Lea asked quietly.

"I-I guess," Carrie trailed off.

"Well, do you feel like you're improving?" Alec asked next.

"I think so," she said a bit more confidently.

"Would you want to live elsewhere?"

"Elsewhere?" she said quietly, looking at her dad.

"We were thinking, how would you like to live in Snowpoint City with your aunt and uncle?" Lea asked next.

"Snowpoint City? Isn't that up north and cold?" she asked.

"It is," her mother trailed off.

"Carrie, we think this would be best for you. Your aunt and uncle already have a spare bedroom. Plus, we've learned you like ice type pokemon." Alec couldn't tell Carrie why they had to do this. Financially, they couldn't afford to keep Carrie with them. As wonderful Dr. Church had been for Carrie's improvement, it cost money. Everything to help her recover cost money. They weren't in a good spot in the first place, but now everything was strained. Her aunt and uncle were more well off and could afford to give their daughter the care she needed.

They loved her, so they sent her away.

One week after that conversation, Carrie had her last appointment in person with Dr. Shannon Church. His black hair was peppered with gray, a seasoned veteran enjoying the fruits of his labor.

"I'm going to miss you," she said meekly.

"I know, I'll miss you too. Frigibax will too. Remember, we'll still have video calls every week when you're away, okay?"

She nodded, and gave Frigibax one last petting. The young ice type didn't fully understand the situation, but enjoyed the physical affection nonetheless. She left in her father's car, heading home. She went up to her room where everything was packed up. Carrie cried at it all, letting it out physically.

She mourned her pervious life, she mourned her home, she felt resentment at herself for getting lost, she was confused as to why this happened to her. Carrie didn't really want to leave, but the ten year old knew it had to happen. A slight knock at the door got her attention.

"Carrie?" her mom said quietly.

"Yes, mom?"

Lea slowly made her way in. Her heart broke seeing her daughter like this, but she knew it was for the best. She hated how they couldn't afford to help their daughter. "I have something for you."

She sat down on the floor next to Carrie who was sitting and leaning against her bed.

"Do you remember my stories of living in Alola?" Lea asked her daughter.

"Yes, it always sounded so beautiful," Carrie said with some wonder in her voice. Lea was born and raised in Alola, native to Ula'Ula Island.

"Years ago, before I left with your dad to live here, I found this Pokemon. It is very special, there are only two of it in the world. There is another trainer, Gladion, who has the other. He's an old friend of mine, and he told me this is a good idea. Do you want to meet it?" Lea asked with hope in her voice.

"Yes," Carrie said confidently.

Lea pulled out a Pokeball. Looking old, she opened the capsule. A quadruped amalgamation appeared with a helmet on it's head.

"This is Type:Null," Lea said quietly. It took up pretty much the remainder of the space in the room.

Carrie looked at the normal type in wonder with slight fear. She'd never seen a Pokemon like this before. She carefully stood up and reached her hand out. Type:Null carefully sniffed and gently let her pet him.

"Null, this is my daughter: Carrie. She is leaving us for a while, will you watch her?" Lea asked.

No hesitation, Type:Null nodded yes. "You are to obey her, and protect her. You will always be with her. She will have your pokeball, and you will follow her every order." Lea felt bad for being so stern, but she knew that Type:Null understood the situation.

"Carrie, this is it's pokeball, don't ever let it get away from you." Lea placed the ball in her daughter's hand. Lea stood up and kissed her daughter on the head.

"He'll keep you safe. He'll help you start your journey, when you're ready," Lea said with a sad smile and a tear in her eye.

Carrie looked up at her mom, holding Type:Null's pokeball in her hands tightly. "I'll make you proud and we'll kick ass!"

Lea had to suppress a laugh and scolded her daughter: "Carrie Jane, where did you hear such language?"

Carrie kept her mouth shut. "It's okay, it's our little secret," Lea said with a smile. They embraced, as Alec watched from the hallway. His brain made sure to etch the scene into his head so he'll never forget it.

"To return Type:Null, just point the ball at it and say "return!". Can you try that?" Lea said as they parted.

Carrie nodded and turned to her new companion. "R-return!" she said as a red laser shot out and sucked in the normal type. A smile on her face she jumped up. "I did it mom!"

Lea smiled. "You're a natural, just like your parents. Now you see this button in the middle?" Lea pointed to the center of the pokeball.

"Yes."

"Tap that, and Type:Nul will emerge."

Carrie tapped the button and Type:Null emerged once again. It plodded up to Carrie and nuzzled her. "It likes me!" she said with a giggle.

"Yes it does. How about you return Null and we get ready to head out?"

Carrie nodded and returned Type:Null. The ten year old felt like she was beginning her journey.

Living with her aunt Teresa and uncle Adam was an adjustment for her. She had a hard time fitting in at school just like in Eterna City, at first. Snowpoint City did prove to bring her more out of her shell in other ways. While interacting with strangers was still something she was improving, Carrie felt confident to at least go out in public.

Her aunt and uncle were still communicating with her parents. Weekly updates to them, she still saw Dr. Church over video call. Having her own pokemon in Type:Null also helped tremendously.

Turning eleven years old, eight months after moving, Carrie was excited. After some time, she made one friend at school: Jennifer Conley. Jennifer noticed Carrie sitting alone at lunch one day, and after some time, they became best friends. Jennifer had two Pokemon: a Snorunt and a Swinub. Schools allowed only one pokemon so she switched between who she brought. Carrie wasn't comfortable to reveal Type:Null to anyone yet, but soon that wasn't a worry.

The morning of her eleventh birthday, Carrie bounded down the stairs with a smile. Her hair had recently been cut to a sharp bob, and she loved it. She was becoming more accepting of her scarring too, and wasn't afraid if they were visible. Her aunt and uncle had big grins on their face as tye had a small box on the table.

"Goodmorning Carrie, happy birthday!" Aunt Teresa was very excited about something.

"Happy birthday kiddo," her uncle was equally excited but kept it reined in more.

"Thanks aunt Teresa and Uncle Adam!"

She sat down at the table on the end that was opposite of her guardians. Her attire was something that matched the colder climate of Snowpoint City: black snow boots, blue overalls, a white long sleeve shirt, and a white parka on top. Her parka hung on the chair, but she was buzzing to get outside. Jennifer said she had a surprise for her.

"Before you take off, we have a surprise for you. Since you weren't able to get a starter Pokemon from Professor Rowan, local gym leader Candice has decided to give you a Pokemon to help you start your journey," Adam said with a hidden grin. Thank Arceus Candice stepped up. It was a contingency plan every city with a gym leader had. It took the pressure off the professor and helped those who lived far away from their regional professors.

"Oh really?" Carrie said, her excitement growing.

"Now, this is not a pet: you have to train, feed, bathe, and most importantly care for this Pokemon," Teresa said.

"I understand completely. I will care and train this Pokemon to the best of my ability," she vowed. She had secretly been doing it with Type:Null already. But now she was getting a Pokemon that she could take out! Carrie felt guilty, but Type:Null wasn't ready, she felt.

Her uncle Adam slid the small box forward. Carrie carefully opened the box and saw a single Pokeball inside, expanded and ready to go. She picked it up gingerly, and tapped the button to open it. Materializing was a Snorunt. Carrie's eyes lit up in glee.

"Oh yay!" She squealed as she hugged the ice type. Snorunt smiled and pushed into her to reciprocate the hug.

"This Snorunt is a female, so you have the option to evolve her into a Froslass if you'd like," Adam said.

"Oh thank you thank you thank you!" she said happily. She hugged them both. "This is amazing, thank you so much!"

"Of course sweetie, we're happy you have a Pokemon now," her aunt said with a smile. Carrie gave a fake smile at that.

"Can I go see Jennifer now?" Carrie was already putting on her parka with Snorunts pokeball in her hand.

"Yes yes, go see her," her uncle said with a laugh.

"Come on Snorunt!" With that, they were out of the house and on the streets of Snowpoint City.

She was meeting Jennifer at Boreal Park near the Lake Acuity waterfront route. She quickly made her way there with her new partner. Soon they saw who they were looking for: Jennifer Conley, the only person Carrie felt like she could call a friend.

"Hey Carrie!" Jennifer said happily. Her vibrant red hair flashing against the snow on the ground. Being born in the winter had perks, but then again there was almost always snow here.

"Hi Jennifer!"

The two gave a hug. "Who's this cutie?" Jennifer said as she knelt down.

"This is Snorunt! Miss Candice gave her to me to help me start my journey!" Carrie said happily.

Jennifer struggled to suppress her smile. She knew all of this, but wanted to hear it from Carrie. It was coordinated. "That means what I have for you will make you feel even better." Jennifer presented a small box. Snorunt wanted to see so Carrie knelt to let her see too. She opened the box and gasped at what was inside.

A dawn stone.
