Chapter 51
In the Financial District, leaving the building where he used to work, Ted Wheeler fumed. He had just tried, once again, to get his job back but was refused all due to the same 'ridiculous' reason that he had been given before.
'This is past a joke, they can't do this, they had no right to fire me, they should have fired those scum.' He thought angrily. 'As if that wasn't bad enough Karen still carries on with this nonsense and is letting Holly be corrupted by seeing Michael, none of them get it, Michael is the one who is wrong here, twisted...he should be fixed. Just like those two scum at work.'
Still fuming he continued to make his way down the street, still unable to comprehend how his life had fallen apart so much. He had done nothing wrong, his life had been perfect, then all this mess with his son being one of 'those' came up and after that he saw his life being flushed down the drain. Still angry he turned the corner and continued furiously down the street and as such he was oblivious to his surroundings. He therefore did not see the massive torrent of sand until he was buried by it.
Spider-Man examined the devices before attaching them to his web-shooters.
"Thanks for this, Dr. Connors." He said. "So...it was a message about those Symbiotes, someone in Oscorp trying to warn you about them that set you off that time?"
Dr. Connors nodded. "Yes, that's what turned me into the Lizard that time. I remember now, I had hoped that it wouldn't come to this level of danger but...you're sure. You're sure someone has been possessed by one of these Symbiotes?"
"I'm afraid so, saw him with my own eyes." Spider-Man replied. "But these sonic blasters should help, that's one of their weaknesses right."
"Yes...and fire." Dr. Connors agreed. "What do you have planned though?"
Spider-Man sighed and shook his head. "I don't know. I'm hoping...I'm hoping there's some way to save the person who was possessed, they need to face justice properly, but that can't happen unless I separate them from the Symbiote. So the sonics might be a better weapon, right?"
Dr. Connors nodded. "Yes, it's possible...a better choice than fire if that's your goal. It is possible, but it will be difficult."
That was all Spider-Man needed to hear and just in time to as he began to hear several alarms going off through his various communications.
He was swinging rapidly through the streets as he tried to respond at once.
"What's going on guys, practically everything has lit up red." He asked.
"It's bad, really bad." Dustin explained. "Just got a call from Eleven, she said she'd wait for you with Kali in Greenwich, sending you the exact location."
"Okay...why there…?" Will began. "Oh, hold on?"
He just received another call, from Hopper. "Spider-Man, we've got real problems here, where are you?"
"I'm going to meet up with my allies in Greenwich, what's going on?"
Hopper's response made him worried. "It's Sandman, he's on the rampage around the Financial District and Mysterio seems to have taken over Times Square in Midtown."
"Okay...okay, don't worry." Spider-Man said quickly. "I think I know now why my friends want to meet in Greenwich, puts us in between both places. We'll quickly figure out a plan and get there to help out...what about the Green Goblin?"
"No sign of him. Hurry." Hopper replied before ending the call.
Spider-Man grimaced. "Okay...you guys need to be ready, are you all-?"
"No." Lucas replied. "Max and I are just about there, but Mike hasn't arrived yet."
"Oh boy…" Spider-Man groaned. "Mike?"
Mike replied. "I'll be on the way there too, sorry, things kinda got in the way, I'll be there as soon as I can."
Spider-Man just hoped that everything would go as smoothly as they planned.
He reached the rooftop that had been pinpointed to him and he quickly landed. El and Kali were already there and looked at him in relief.
"You made it, we were worried." Kali remarked. "We heard what was said, we know what we're dealing with."
Spider-Man nodded. "Right...It's not gonna be easy. So many people are in trouble and…"
That was when he heard the scream, not just in his communications, but also nearby. He hurried over to the edge of the roof, crying out.
"Mike!"
"MMMMM MMMM!" Mike screamed.
But it was useless as his mouth was webbed shut, with more webbing binding his arms and legs as he struggled and writhed, held up with more webs like a pinata by Venom.
"Looking for this, Spider." The monstrous Symbiote growled. "Then come and get him, we'll be waiting!"
With that he laughed darkly and swung away, heading northwards.
"No!" Spider-Man cried out.
He tried to hurry but was cut off by El.
"Will, I know, I know." She said. "But please-"
"He took Mike, he's going to-!" Will burst out in horror and dismay.
"Dude, dude listen, you can't just run off like that." Dustin burst out.
Max also added. "Please, think, think this through."
"But Mike-"
"Mike is safe for now." Max said firmly.
Suzie then cut in. "She's right, Mike may have been captured, but he's safe."
"How can you…?" Will gasped.
He was locked in horror, how could things have spiralled down so badly. Sandman on the rampage, Mysterio taking over Times Square and then Venom kidnapped Mike.
He couldn't believe this, the boy he loved was in peril and everyone was trying to stop him saving him.
That was when El revealed the reason why. "I understand, you want to save him, he means so much to you. But what about all those other people. The ones who are danger and being hurt right now. Don't you have a responsibility to save them?"
"Dammit…" Will growled but then sighed. "You're right, but...how can you be so sure, you all say Mike will be safe, he's been kidnapped by that monster Venom and-"
"Kidnapped to lure you into a trap...I'm sorry, he may get hurt and even if he isn't, it won't be easy being held prisoner." El admitted.
Kali then finished for her. "But he's still going to live, Venom needs him alive to lure you in after all."
Will's eyes widened behind his mask, he hadn't thought of that. He took a slow careful breath and did his best to calm down.
"Okay, okay, you're right...Just please be safe Mike." He said, adding the last part quietly. 'Mike will understand, I know he will…I just hope he doesn't get hurt too much.'
"Alright, illusions are Kali's speciality." El said. "We'll take care of Mysterio, you go and deal with Sandman."
Spider-Man nodded and watched as his two friends left to deal with the danger at Times Square. He turned in the direction of the Financial District and leapt from the building, swinging that way.
"Get ready Sandman, here I come."
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
