After Jack vanished with no explanation, not even a goodbye note, the remaining members of Torchwood Three were left adrift.
At first they didn't know whether their boss had been abducted or had left of his own volition. Even when Tosh managed to clean up the CCTV footage and they were able to determine that Jack had gone with the Doctor, there'd still been the question of whether or not he'd ever come back.
It was a question none of them could answer, but whether or not their former leader was gone for good, the rest of them still had a job to do.
It shouldn't have been surprising that there was a difference of opinion over who should take over as leader. Gwen and Owen both seemed to believe they were Jack's natural successor, Owen because aside from Tosh he'd been there longest, and Gwen because she'd replaced Suzie, who'd been second in command.
As yet another argument raged between the two, Tosh slipped away to the archives.
"Fighting again, are they?" Ianto asked his friend.
"D'you think we should tell them?"
"Why? Let them fight; it keeps them out of our way while we keep this place running."
