Stepping aside as Lou hurried out of his son's ICU room, Eddie Williams watched the Hawaii Five 0 captain hurry out of the unit before he stepped back into the doorway and returned his attention back to Danny who had turned his head and now was staring up at the ceiling. He doubted Danny even realized he was there and he had overheard enough of the conversation - or rather the totally one-sided conversation – to know just some of the reasons why Danny was thinking of returning to Jersey and from what he had just overheard, he really couldn't blame his son.

He had never had trouble talking to any of his kids, both Clara and himself had always tried to encourage them to express what they were thinking or feeling or what was going on in their lives, and he had over the years become very good at reading their emotions and what they were thinking and feeling by just by the look on their faces. It didn't take much for him to see just how much Danny was hurting from the actions of his friends.

It was the same type of intense hidden pain that he had seen in Danny's eyes when Danny had to break the news and some of the circumstances behind Matty's death to them. Studying his son, he silently admitted to himself, that as horrible as it was to hear what happened to Matty, there were things he suspected that Danny had kept to himself to protect them from more hurt. Now studying his son, he knew that he needed to find out just what had been going on in his son's life and not just the parts that Danny decided to tell him about. And that meant finding out just what was happening between him and Steve.

Hell, he wasn't blind, nor did he need Clara to tell him about Steve's feelings for his son, or Danny's feelings for Steve. He had realized how Danny felt about Steve for himself a long time ago. But the last time Danny had visited, he had noticed the same desolate look in Danny's eyes that he had seen just before Danny and Rachel had announced that they were getting divorced. He had tried then to find out what was going on but when Danny used the excuse that he just wanted to move back home to jersey, to be closer to the family, he had allowed his own selfish joy of having Danny so close again that he had ignored the little voice in his head that warned him that there was more than that going on in Danny's life.

Now staring at Danny in the bed, he knew his son well enough to know that Danny was hurting far more than he would admit to anyone, even Clara! And from the conversation he had just accidentally overheard, he wanted to know why Danny's friends had been treating Danny as they had and what was really going on in his son's life.

Chewing on his bottom lip as he watched Danny close his eyes, he hesitated a moment as he turned and stared at the empty unit doors. Turning back to look at Danny again, he made up his mind. He knew that although Danny had always told him everything when Danny was a child, Danny was no longer a child anymore and after Matty's death he knew that there were some things now that Danny would keep to himself. Spinning on his heel, he headed back towards the ICU doors which he had just seen Lou leave through, determined to find answers to the many questions that were swirling through his mind.
